Nickelodeon buys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Pays $60 million to Mirage Studios and 4Kids Network.

Nickelodeon has acquired global property rights over the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise after paying $60 million to Mirage Studios and 4Kids Network, $10 million of which was reportedly paid to 4Kids to terminate their rights in the property.  Nickelodeon will continue to air the current TMNT cartoon through the beginning of next year, and plans to release a new feature film with Paramount Studios, as well as a CGI television series, for release in 2012.  Nickelodeon will also continue to work with Playmate Toys, which has been the creative force behind TMNT toys for the past twenty years.
