Singer to re-re-boot BSG

Variety has reported that Usual Suspects and X-Men director Bryan Singer is to write and direct a feature film version of Battlestar Galactica.

According to the studios this will be ‘a complete re-imagining’. Singer has long been linked to the classic 70s franchise, and back in 2001 actually planned on helming a TV version, only for it to be put on hold because of 9/11, and his work on X-Men 2 and Superman Returns. In that time Ronald D Moore and David Eick put their own stamp on it at the Sci-Fi Channel, with one of the best television series of the decade. But now it appears Singer’s version is back on the fast-track. The creator of the original show, Glen Larson is also on board.

Can I be the first to say: This is way too soon, the RDM reboot was the best reboot ever, taking everything that was bad out of the original series, keeping all the good stuff, and adding a lot of great new ideas and a mature take on sci-fi. And it’s only just ended! The controversial last episode is still causing tremors around the net, and ‘The Plan’ telemovie and Caprica Prequel are set to air soon. What can Singer possibly do to better this version? He’ll probably make it an allegory for homosexuality.
