Singer to Return to X-Men?!
The director of the first two X-Men films has expressed interest in returning to the franchise.
Leaving the X-Men franchise to make the steaming pile of dung known as Superman Returns may not have been the smartest move, but at least Bryan Singer is able to admit his mistakes. The director, who got his big start with The Usual Suspects and became popular with comic book fans after directing X-Men and X2 has said in an interview with the Associated Press that he wants to return to the series:
"I’m still looking to possibly returning to the ‘X-Men’ franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it. I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast."
Singer also talked about how he loves working in the Sci-Fi genre because of the ability to mask deep message in tales of super-powered mutants beating each other up:
"The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is — the stories, if they are good, are about the human condition. (I like to) trick audiences into thinking they’re seeing fireworks, but they’re learning about themselves and listening to what I have to say."
Fox has recently discussed plans for several different X-Men movies, including a sequel to the main series, a Wolverine sequel, a New Mutants spinoff, and a First Class movie set in the early days of the team, so there is certainly plenty of X-Men to go around. We’ll keep you updated of this story as it develops.
