For each issue that arrives within the Edge of Venonverse, we will keep a constant reminder of how one of these issue could be a potential major breakout for a new mash-up character. This week’s Edge of Venomverse #3 is no exception. The introduction of Host Rider. That’s Ghost Rider and Venom mashed-up for those not in the know. Although this really isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Venom host take over Johnny Blaze. Back in 2012, the story-line ‘Circle of Four’ in Venom #13.4 saw the host take over and combine the Red Hulk with Ghost Rider. Red Hulk Rider? Ghost Hulk? Yes, this really happened. Bottom line, get each issue of the Edge of Venomverse as they arrive. You never know when one of these mash-ups will explode in the aftermarket, if ever. More importantly though, you’re getting a sweet story and art by Tigh Walker.
Batch X makes its move of several players in Weapon X #6. Weapon H (aka Hulk/Wolverine) will be arriving soon so says Marvel in Totally Awesome Hulk #22. This comic, with that ridiculous title still, will be flying off the shelf when it arrives. Get an early jump on Ebay right HERE (some available early). As always, from ALL available Ebay sellers.

New story begins in Blue Beetle #11 with the introduction of a new character named Ghostfire. Writers Keith Giffen/J.M. DeMatteis and art by Scott Kolins.

A super limited-edition comic from Coffin Comics; Lady Death: Zodiac #1. From the awesome artistry talent of Nei Ruffino and will be signed by Lady Death creator Brian Pulido. Written by Bob Varderman. Only 200 available. (Update:) We’re not even sure if this is a new release this week. We saw it on some new release sheet someplace, but it could be a re-release or an older book. Who cares though? Still a cool book.
In case you haven’t noticed lately or maybe in the last few years actually, Valiant Entertainment are strictly bull market. Google ‘bull market’ if you do not get the reference, but yes Valiant is moving onward and upward. Searching for a comic with great art? Great storytelling? Yes, Valiant Entertainment should be a place to begin. Speaking of a place to begin, Faith And The Future Force #1 from writer Jody Houser and artists Stephen Segovia & Barry Kitson comes to stores on ncbd.

Check out the first appearance of Tremendous Trump in The Tremendous Trump. This funny spoof from Antarctic Press is written by Alfred Perez with art from Brian Denham and Ben Dunn. Also from Antarctic Press this Wednesday; Super Secret Robot Club (one shot) from Matthew Spradin & Casey Edwards and Sidewinders #1 from writer/artist Dennis Chacon plus various.
It seems the Transformers bug has bitten Mark Wahlberg hard enough to make him produce a comic book for Vault Comics. We’re cool with that, Mark seems like a chill dude and makes entertaining movies. Alien Bounty Hunter #1 will be written by Adrian Wassel & David M. Booher, with Nick Robles pencils.

Netflix recently announced that Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher will make his way onto the Daredevil series. Good news for comic fans! The fans have responded well and we decided it was time for a Punisher checklist.

As always, there will be comics that did not make the list. No big deal. If you have something to share or add to the list, please free to do so below.

Amazing Spider-Man #129 (1974) The first appearance and with the classic cover from Gil Kane, John Romita Sr. and Gaspar Saladino.

Amazing Spider-Man #134 (1974) The second appearance of the Punisher and the first appearance of the Tarantula.

Power Man Annual #1 (1976) Frank Castle is mentioned outside of a Spider-Man comic. Chris Claremont writes.

Amazing Spider-Man #162 (1976) The first appearance of the villain Jigsaw. He’ll go on to become one of Frank Castle’s main adversaries.

Marvel Tales #106 (1979) The very first comic reprint of Punisher’s first appearance with the original cover from Spidey #129. The first of many many Punisher origin reprints throughout the years.

Captain America #241 (1980) The first time Punisher appears in a comic other than a Spidey book in the Marvel Universe. An early Punisher appearance and classic too. The first comic cover the Punisher graces that is not Spider-Man related. Bob McLeod and Frank Miller cover.

Daredevil #181 (1982) The first appearance in the Daredevil title. This comic has it all. The death of Elektra, Bullseye appearance, Frank Miller writes, art, and cover. As explained in the Creator Spotlight: Frank Miller; Netflix already announced the Punisher will be making his way into the Daredevil series. This book here is all kinds of awesome already and any collector should already own one. Because of the characters and probable story line on the Netflix show, it would be wise to get one if you don’t have one yet……BUT that said, on the flip side, there are way way too many copies of this comic available. Being too accessible puts it in the “New Mutants #98” category. So many copies, way overpriced. Be smart.

A new comic book week means a new week of Convergence titles from DC. Also a new week of speculating on some of them too, besides some good reads of course. Each week InvestComics touches on the Convergence titles to give a possible heads up on what DC MAY do in the future with possible new titles or characters reemerging in the DCU. This is pure speculating here. DC may never visit some of these characters again after they appear in this epic storyline, but it’s fun to take a look at some back issues to hunt down a first appearance. Like a Captain Carrot from a couple of weeks (and months) ago here on InvestComics.

Justice_League_of_America_v.1_Annual_2 Kamandi_1_InvestComics

Convergence Hawkman #1 will visit the land of Kamandi. Kamandi hasn’t really appeared in a whole lot of books considering he was introduced in 1972’s Kamandi, The Last Boy On Earth #1. Jack “King” Kirby is the cover artist and artist/creator of the character. A wonderful Bronze Age comic to have in you collection regardless if DC ever follows up with this character.

The Detroit Justice League will appear in Convergence Justice League America #1. Check out Detroit’s baddest gang and their first appearance in Justice League of America Annual #2 (1984). This comic also happens to be the first appearance of Vibe.

Convergence Superboy and The Legion #1 will feature the group Atomic Knights. They first appeared in Strange Adventures #117 (1960).

And besides Convergence #3, here are the rest of the Convergence titles hitting the shelf this Wednesday; Convergence Adventures of Superman #1, Convergence Batman and The Outsiders #1, Convergence Flash #1, Convergence Green Lantern Corps #1, Convergence New Teen Titans #1, Convergence Swamp Thing #1 and Convergence Wonder Woman #1.

G.I. Joe Real America Hero #213 continues the “Death of Snake Eyes” storyline. Snake Eyes is one step closer to his comic book demise. Fans must be loving it because the comic is sold out across the board. Regular cover and variants.

With all of the Star Wars craze going on right now and with the Star Wars Marvel comic doing so well, it’s probably best to stay on top of this series and any other Star Wars related series from Marvel. The potential of any new introductions within the series will send the aftermarket into a frenzy. As proven with the heads up InvestComics gave everyone with Darth Vader #3 (since cooled off). So check out Star Wars #4 this week….

The Inhuman Special #1 will be a cool book to check out. Marvel states there will be a character to appear that hasn’t for 75 years until now. That’s neat. We look forward to see who it is.

Everything Star Wars is hot, so what better time than to release a titled book like Empire Uprising #1 to confuse everyone! IDW publishing puts out this awesome Mark Waid written, Barry Kitson drawn comic this Wednesday. Incidentally, the same creative team first introduced Empire back in 2000 under the Image Comics label; Empire #1. Great stuff. A couple of more interesting titles from IDW to check out; Infinite Loop #1 and Drones #1. Also a cool comic from IDW for the little ones; Littlest Pet Shop Spring Cleaning #1. The Littlest Pet Shop #1 first came out in 2014.

Two titles from Image Comics this Wednesday to check out are Beyond Belief #1 and Kaptara #1.

Guardians of the Galaxy #26 will feature a variant Howard the Duck Nirvana cover.

I.C.E. Bayou Black Out #1 from 12 Gauge comics is a looker. I.C.E. First appeared as a free comic book day comic back in 2011.

Avengers Magazine #1 has names attached like John Buscema and Jack Kirby. It’s a must get for any comic book enthusiast. Avengers Operation Hydra #1 will also be for comic book enthusiast, but especially Avengers fans.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 1/15/14

We all know the legal issue behind the whole Miracleman charater right? If you don’t, you can either Google it or click here for a quick synopsis into the legal mess. We’re not here to discuss legal matters so we’re going to skip that part and head straight into the speculative market. With that, Miracleman is back in the hands of Marvel Comics, thus Miracleman (2014) #1 will be coming out this Wednesday. Being a big deal for Marvel they are accompanying the number one release with a healthy dose of variant covers. Eight at last count. There are a few gems in here. The Joe Quesada variant, coming in at a price point of about $60, a Mark Buckingham variant at $75, and the prize variant from John Cassaday will cost you around $150. As always, grade these (shoot for a 9.8 or higher) as a CGC signature series to maximize your dollar.

The Marvelman character first appeared as Miracleman in the Eclipse Comics’ Miracleman #1 (1985). The series was written by legend Alan Moore until issue number 17. (Insert sarcasm here) Some other guy by the name of Neil Gaiman took over the series from there. It’s not too often these days you have creators of this magnitude like Moore and Gaiman doing a back to back. Moments to relish, and by the way if you are thinking about getting either of these books or some of the others within the series, you could check Ebay. There are still a few affordable ones for the taking.

Revolutionary War Dark Angel #1 will feature the return of Marvel UK’s Dark Angel. She looks extremely awesome as far as geek eye candy. Let’s hope the character lives up to her stellar appearance. If she does and takes a step toward stardom, you should have her first appearance in your long box. A step in the right direction starts with a sold out comic, which Dark Angel has done here.  Check out the 25 cent boxes at your local shop or convention for Hell’s Angel #1 (1992) for the debut of Dark Angel.

Dark Angel

DC knows a good thing when they have one. With their successful Injustice title comes Injustice Year Two (2013) #1. It’s almost sold out at the distributor, so you better grab it if you want it. The first series sold out quickly and commanded some nice aftermarket cash.

From Injustice we go to justice with Justice League 3000 (2013) #2. Issue two here will introduce the new villain group named Locus. Locus first appeared in JLA: Year One #1 (1998). Written by Mark Waid, and art by Barry Kitson….oh yes, fun times indeed.

Dark Horse brings us Skyman (2014 Dark Horse) #1 this week. An interesting Obama variant will coincide with the release of the regular cover. Aren’t we past the president variant covers? Guess what? The variant is sold out, so we aren’t over the president variants just yet. Also, did you know that the first Skyman character appeared in 1940’s Big Shot Comics #1? Awesome cover too.

The most overused story concept and character joins forces this week. Night of the Living Deadpool (2014) #1 will have Deadpool in yet another number one issue, and the storyline will focus on zombies.  So what does this equate to? An almost sold out comic, fans just can’t get enough apparently!

Be sure to check out the sold out variants and possible soon to be regular cover issues; Disney Kingdoms Seekers of the Weird (2014) #1, Curse (2014 Boom Studios) #1,  Lil Battlestar Galactica (2014) #1,  Black Dynamite (2013 IDW) #1,  EGOs (2013) #1, and Inhumanity Spider-Man (2014) #1.

See you next week. Invest wisely.
