Harley Quinn #17

Click To Buy Now

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.

IC 100 Club Pick: Harley Quinn #17 (2015) Graded 9.8 – Signed by Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti. Here is a double signed high grade Harley Quinn variant comic with the Joker on the cover at a buy it now price of only $89.99. With the Suicide Squad movie on the horizon, and rumors abound about a possible Harley solo movie, this is a decent comic because of the double sigs, the 9.8 grade, and the variant Joker cover.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.

Drax #8 continues the rare/odd appearance of Planet Terry. Planet Terry popped up in Drax #6 and appears in the third consecutive Drax comic this week. Will Marvel push the Planet Terry character to a new level? Well, if you want to get Planet Terry’s first appearance it was in Planet Terry #1 (1985). He first appeared in Marvel Comics imprint; Star Comics. Marvel Comics short lived imprint back in the 80’s. The Star Comics line was killed in 1991.

Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur #8 will feature the first appearance of Kid Kree.
Diehard Gambit enthusiast may finally get their fanboy question answered. Who would win in a fight, Gambit or Deadpool? The answer may lie in Deadpool v Gambit #1 this week.

Civil War Choosing Sides #1 will have an appearance by Damage Control. We believe they last appeared in a Wolverine comic back in 2014. With the announcement from ABC television putting together a possible Damage Control show a while back, the first appearance of the group in Marvel Comics Presents #19 went a bit bonkers in the aftermarket. Things have settled down quite a bit as the news seems to have fell flat on it’s face. As does many of these announcements. So NOW would probably be a better time as any to click the link and buy that first appearance for much less than it initially exploded to. The raw copies are at a decent price now, the graded (9.8 and less) are $99 and below. That may be a bit much especially not knowing if Damage Control from ABC is DOA. Buy a nice raw copy and grade it yourself if you want.

A funeral for a fallen hero takes place in Captain America Sam Wilson #10 as the Civil War II mega-crossover churns on.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for new comic releases on 2-27-13

IC-Publication-LogoIf you haven’t seen the latest InvestComics Newsletter, you should check it out right HERE. Big news coming out of the InvestComics camp! More to follow….

The new Breaking the 4th Wall Podcast here on InvestComics will have the Joe Harris interview! Be sure to check that out!

One consistency you will find these days here on InvestComics and in the Marvel Comics world these days can be summed up in 4 words; Guardians of the Galaxy. This week Marvel begins their quest to shove this team down our throats until the movie comes out in 2014. Although it may seem like a long time from now; hell we’re into the third month of 2013 already! It comes quick and the word quick should be in your collector vocabulary when it comes to any of these characters destined to appear in the movie. Marvel’s “primer” if you will comes out this week by the name Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1. With creators Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven attached to this project, it’s very safe to assume here that there will be quick sellouts here with demand in the aftermarket. Although Marvel pulled out some heavyweights for this book, is the appearance of Iron Man in this book a little bit of an uncertainty factor? At least it’s not Wolverine!

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=228]

The team within these pages and the movie for the most part are still out there to be had as far as the collectors market is concerned. With that said, the longer you wait, well the harder it’ll be to get your bid in. Prices will be going up and up fans, no slowing down here…..for now. Bad publicly, delays, budget woes, and a bad trailer could change things very quick to the downside. Be wary here. Be a smart investor, know your market. Pay attention.

The following characters appearing in the new comic (and movie, not all characters, but we still don’t really know) are still readily available for the investor right now at some decent (affordable) pricing. At the forefront of your search should be Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon. Star-Lord (as mentioned numerous times already on InvestComics) first appeared in Marvel Preview Presents #4 (1976). There are only 29 of these comics graded by CGC right now. Three of which sit in the 9.8 slot. Do you really need more motivation here? Okay here’s some more for you. Rocket Raccoon first appeared in Marvel Preview Presents #7 (1976). There are an astounding 12 graded copies of this book out there. Highest grade is a 9.6 and only one sits there. Next grade sits at 9.2 with two sitting there. Get the drift here? Then you have Gamora and Drax. Both of these characters have a big similarity. That would be Mr. Jim Starlin. Gamora first appeared in Strange Tales #180 (1975) and Drax debuted in Iron Man #55 (1975) both are written and penciled by Jim. Now we all know that if you are a comic collector, one must own the first appearance of what is to become the modern day Darth Vader (Thanos) in Iron Man #55, which commands some big bucks in the aftermarket, but still a very strong buy at the high prices. Looking at the Strange Tales #180 though we see a trend like the previously mentioned, excluding the Iran Man book. Only 79 of these comics are graded. Ten hold the 9.8 position. Then we have Groot. Tales to Astonish #13 (1960) is the first look at Groot. Okay only 28 graded here. Highest grades available are one at 9.4 and one at the 9.2 position. Here’s the kicker with this comic. A debut from Groot and only 28 total graded?? This comic is a golden egg ready to explode IF Groot somehow makes it to the big screen and kicks ass. Not because he’s “groot”, because it’s a first appearance drawn by legend Jack “the King” Kirby. Nuff said. Well one more thing. Jim Starlin is one of the main reasons if not THE reason the Marvel cosmo’s being as consistent and brilliant as it is. Don’t kid yourself. He’s the Frank Miller Batman of the Marvel Cosmic Universe. Now, nuff said.

DC Comics tells fans that Flash #17 will introduce us to one of Flash’s greatest foes! Great! The Flash rogue gallery needs a kick in the ass! The Savage Hawkman #17 re-introduces the Shadow Thief into the New 52 Universe. The Shadow Thief first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #36 (1961). This issue comes with a Joe Kubert cover. Nice!

Uncanny Avengers #4 has Omega Skull in it. Is this the first appearance? Not sure, but wanted to throw it out there!

And another Uncanny book to look forward to this week with the word “skull” in it is Uncanny Skullkickers #1. Check out these books as well; Five Weapons #1 (Image), Amalas Blade #0 (Dark Horse), and Professor Frink Fantastic Science Fictions #1 (Bongo).

See you next week, invest wisely.

Welcome to InvestComics Hot Picks 5-16-12 – Marvel Cosmic Special

InvestComics has always been ahead of the curve in many ways over the last 6 years. Even back when InvestComics was just a free “investment” magazine about 6 years ago, over the years we called out the Walking Dead #1 before it came out, Superman and the DC Universe to lose their underwear in order for DC to be on the next level again, recommended countless Bronze and Silver Age comics that have seen a significant increase in value, called out Kick Ass as a movie before the number one issue even hit the comic shops and of course the mention of Iron Man #55 in the very first issue of InvestComics magazine. Thanos’ first appearance…….more on that in a sec. Onwards the predictions came to fruition. Yes there are many others that haven’t come true either! But if you’re a savvy player in a volatile market, you’re more often right than you are wrong.

Why do we mention all of this you ask? Well if you have been under a rock for the past couple of weeks and have not seen The Avengers movie (you should) then you really should not read on. A SPOILER WARNING for you!

By now all of us know that at the end credits of The Avengers movie Thanos appears. Back in 2009 InvestComics wrote an article about how Thanos as well as the Marvel Cosmic Universe was being neglected. As the technology becomes an absolute dream to comic fans and Hollywood for that matter regarding movie magic, Marvel will probably venture into the Cosmo’s. And yes InvestComics was on this years ago. So before we get to a couple of Hot Picks to check out this week, let’s take a look the CREATOR himself of Thanos via Interview on InvestComics TV Mr. Jim Starlin from April of 2011, speaking about the creation of Thanos and an article from 2009………

InvestComics 2009 article: Cosmic Hot Picks

Thanos should be in serious consideration for a Marvel movie. Think about the entire Marvel movie library thus far that have and will come out, all “good” guys. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a villain wreaking havoc on some innocent people then have Warlock show up, or better yet a “Cosmic team” Guardians of the Galaxy maybe?? The storylines and characters are endless. Captain Marvel would be spectacular wouldn’t he? Let’s get that Silver Surfer movie going and introduce some of these characters, thus spinning some of them off into their own solo movies. It would open another arena for Hollywood and Marvel that would be a fanboys sci-fi dream. Think about this, Marvel has and will have spend the next couple of years absolutely killing the comic book market with everything Cosmic from Annihilation to the War of Kings. Fans are eating this stuff up. It’s storytelling at its best here folks, that’s why it’s doing so well. Warlock, Drax, Guardians of The Galaxy, Quasar, Terrax and Captain Marvel, and the list goes on. The epic Marvel ‘Space’ movie has yet been made and with the special effects as ridiculously good as they are these days…..what is the hold up? The Cosmo’s await their turn on the silver screen and a Thanos flick would be a choice that would be an absolute slam dunk.

So here is a very small list of some Marvel Cosmic characters that should be in your collection. What do you think? Do you have some heroes or villains that need to be on this list?

Warlock: First Appearance – Fantastic Four #’s 66 & 67 (1967)

Thanos & Drax: First Appearance – Iron Man #55 (1973)

Guardians of the Galaxy: First Appearance – Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (1969)

Quasar: First Appearance – Incredible Hulk #234 (1979)

Terrax: First Appearance – Fantastic Four #211 (1979)

Captain Marvel: First Appearance – Marvel Super-Heroes #12 (1967)

Rom: First Appearance – Rom #1 (1979)

[scrollGallery id=121]

So there you have it, a very short and concise article regarding the Marvel Cosmic Universe back a few years back. Thanos appeared in the first InvestComics magazine with the mention that this villain will in fact blow up sooner than later. The reference on InvestComics was “Thanos will be the modern day Darth Vader”. Write this down folks, it’s going to happen and you heard it here first.

This week Hot Picks sees a short list to cover.

Amazing Spider-Man: Ends of Earth #1 begins the death of Doc Ock storyline right? That is where we’re headed right? No surprises here. But it does have that real cool on the cusp of really being cool Brit character Union Jack appearing in this issue. Check out Jack’s first appearance in the very affordable Invaders #7. The next issue has the cooler cover though of Union Jack, but just like the character himself, he always seems late to the party and thus receiving that second rate hero tag.

[scrollGallery id=119]

X-Factor #236 features the first appearance of Shattershot. No not the Transformer Shattershot…..we hope not.

Justice League #9 has all signs of impending doom on their ominous cover this week. Look for an introduction to a new big hurt in the new Justice League. Who is the new “major nemesis?” Find out and pick this comic up before it flies off the shelf!

Before we go……

Also this week on InvestComics You tube channel, the latest EXPLICT episode of Booze, cooze and reviews episode #3 has arrived. Reminder here, if you are easily offended DO NOT click ahead to watch Amber tell it like it is on her review show. Here’s the way it goes. If you’re a Howard Stern fan click ahead, if you’re a Rush Limbaugh fan, don’t click ahead. No fluff to be found here, no blowhard, just simple honest open minded truthfulness from Amber. WARNING: EXPLICT LANGUAGE ahead if you click this right HERE.

…..And last but not least, lots of InvestComics Hot Picks Chicks coming your way soon!! Beautiful girls promoting InvestComics and Superherostuff.com!

For now though, scroll through some beautiful covers coming out this week below.

See you soon. Invest wisely.

This week Thanos Infinity Gauntlet #1 comes out and one burning question remains within the mind of this writer. Where are the Marvel Cosmic movies?? Yes we got a glimpse of the Silver Surfer (and Galactis if you want to count the Purple fog as a Marvel character) in the Fantastic Four movie, but that’s it? Besides comic movies running the table in Hollywood these days, there is an entire section within the Marvel Universe that is still untapped. The Marvel Cosmo’s is as vast a universe as one could possibly imagine. The obvious choices for a Marvel Cosmo film would be the previous mentioned characters within this article, but here are a few that deserve to see some screen time in an ALL out Marvel Cosmic movie. So check these characters out with their first appearances. Buy these books collectors if you do not already own them. Marvel will eventually come around to the universe they are seemingly ignoring at the moment. So when the announcement comes that Marvel’s “other” Universe will get its due, remember where you heard it first, and remember who told you what you should pick up. The explosion will happen, and you will be prepared!

Thanos should be in serious consideration for a Marvel movie. Think about all of the Marvel movies that have come out, all “good” guys. Welcome to another edition of Comics & Cinema. This week we’re going to focus on my wish list. Maybe you’ll agree with some of my wishes, maybe you won’t, but let’s all have fun with the fantasy of maybe one day seeing ‘your’ wish comic hero/villain on the silver screen. To break it down in some sought of order instead of total chaos, I’m going to break down by company and give you some key issues or first appearances within the article. So let’s all start daydreaming with the first of the ‘Big 2′ companies…..

marvellogo.gifMarvel – Is there a better product on the market today for Hollywood? Probably not and the Exec’s feel this way too. Thing is, DC would have some serious fire power too if they’d just get going already! Don’t get me started with DC again.

So with the usual suspects getting tossed around every day like Deadpool or Venom, we all need to take a step back and look at the library that Marvel has to offer. We all understand that Thor is probably going to be a sick film. The Avengers will be epic. Yes Marvel has their ducks in a row and yes fans will enjoy these films greatly. Let us remember though, this article is not for the mainstream right now; it’s about thinking outside the box a bit and daydreaming.

A List of Cosmic heroes that could appear on film…..Warlock, Drax, Guardians of The Galaxy, Quasar, Terrax and Captain Marvel!!  With that said where is the epic Marvel ‘Space’ movie?  The Cosmo’s await their turn on the silver screen and a Thanos flick would be a choice that would be a hand down slam dunk. Thanos first appeared in the original Iron Man series in 1973 and will cost you about $300. This is a comic that is well worth the 300 bills collectors. If, a big if here Thanos ever got a green light to appear on screen, this comic triples in value. If he doesn’t get the screen time, this comic will still increase in value just at a slower pace. Thanos is a favorite among fans and Iron Man #55 will always be sought after.

We go from the Cosmo’s to flat out action Sci-Fi with Deathlok. Yes there has been rumblings about this guy, but let’s get it done! This in my opinion would be another big success. This movie needs to be done as the same feel as the Blade Runner. It needs to be dark and edgy. It needs to feel dirty and grimy. The movie needs to take us on the journey of darkness that Colonel Luther Manning experiences through the army to his demise to the guinea pig that he becomes. The pig becomes a Cyborg killing machine. Anyone remember that cool movie with Claude Van Damme and d Dolph Lundren called Universal Solider? Deathlok along the lines of that, but with more gloom would make for a fun time…..for us that is, not Luther. Deathlok’s first appearance is in Astonishing Tales #25, it comes in at a mere $70 in VF and is also George Perez’ first professional work ever. If you don’t know who George is, stop reading this and go Google him. A first appearance 1974 Bronze Age, first George Perez work for $70?? This movie needs to be made and this comic needs to be in your collection. Nuff said.

My last two comics from my Marvel wish list are 2 characters that Marvel blatantly ripped off of DC, but perfected them for the movie screen. Understanding that Batman translated extremely well to screen (Michael Keaton/Christian Bale) Marvel has a character in their arsenal that would be unbelievable if ever captured on screen. DC has their Dark Knight and Marvel has their White Knight….Moon Knight. First appearing in Werewolf By Night #32, this is another one of those Bronze Age comics that is way undervalued and is a great buy right now. Moon Knight’s first appearance could be picked up for $100 these days in some markets. That is an absolute ridiculous buy. When the new Vengeance of Moon Knight title came out and sold out quickly, it’s saying that Marvel fans want to see this dude in action. Taking a look at InvestComics Hot Picks from 9-30-09 (http://www.trendingpopculture.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=682&Itemid=35) one could see that Moon Knight is on the top of the wish list. The Hot Picks for that week also gives a bit more insight on the reason or what to look at as far as the Moon Knight movie. Marvel would score a huge hit with this one if ever made in the Batman lore. So the last character on the movie wish list is actually featured on the Hot Picks this week, on the same cover as Moon Knight! Yes this is 100% pure coincidence; Sentry needs to get on Marvel’s movie radar. Marvel’s answer to DC’s Superman would make for some great storytelling as well as a big ‘up yours’ from Marvel if they could pull off the Superman movie DC should have done. Yes Sentry is a completely different character is so many ways, but the similarities are there as well. While I could go through them, one of the most glaring similarities is the ‘S’ on the costume. While Superman’s ‘S’ is totally iconic (we all know, so please Superman fans, sit down chill), Sentry brings some new blood into the whole mystic alien from another planet, superpower dude. Sentry is Marvel’s Superman as Moon Knight is Marvel’s Batman. These two would simply blow away movie goers because of the fact that Marvel always brings a human side to their characters that the average person relates to. Somehow Marvel would make The Sentry a bit human or make you understand his struggles. Did anyone feel this way in the last Superman movie? Superman II with Christopher Reeves, yes now that was the greatest Superman movie ever made!

dclogo.gifSpeaking of Superman, let’s move over to DC. We have all heard by now about the new ‘DC Entertainment ‘deal. DC is anteing up and it’s a win/win for everyone. Comic book fans have much to look forward to in the coming years…hopefully. Just like Marvel the usual suspects line up at the door with the mention of a DC movie. Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Shazam, Flash, etc. Again I will focus on characters that should get some consideration. Omega Men would be an unusual pick, but would be a great sci-fi flick, first appearing in Green lantern #141 this extraterrestrial superhero team is a team with different aliens, different attitudes, personalities and abilities. What more is there to need for a hit movie here? Maybe a ‘Pixar’ type animated movie is in order here? Who knows, bottom line Omega Men would be a good sci-fi movie!

Speaking of Shazam earlier as being one of the usual suspects, how about a Black Adam film instead? Total bad as* Black Adam could be a complete villain film where the villain just whoop’s everyone’s butt. When was the last time any movie goers got to see a bad guy win? Why not set up a series of movies where Black Adam rises to power and meets up with Shazam in the third movie, where ‘finally’ our ‘hero’ wins. It would set a different tone in the movie industry where the villain for a couple of movies is running the table. Get his reintroduction into the DC Universe in Shazam: The New Beginning #1 (1987 – Post Crisis) at $3.

DC has an assassin that pre-dates Marvel’s Deadpool and would give the Merc with the mouth a huge run for his money. Slade Wilson A.K.A Deathstroke, DC elite assassin is an excellent choice for a comic book movie. Much like Black Adam, this sometimes anti-hero is just an entirely different animal when it comes to the rest of the DC Universe in many ways. Deathstroke in a movie that goes along a vibe of ‘Bourne Identity’ or even ‘Point of No Return’ would be box office gold. Get Slade’s first appearance in The New Teen Titans #2 from 1980 for around $80. An undervalued comic, get it now.

DC has done so well with the Christian Bale Batman movies; why not go with a Nightwing movie? This character is one of DC’s most underrated and messed up.Nightwing has huge potential but just simply is not used right or cannot get him of the right track. A would be dark edge film for such a character that has so many questions, doubts, anger, violent streaks needs to get on film! The best part, he could constantly bring up how bitter he is towards Batman and eventually have a battle cameo of Batman in the Nightwing movie! Fanboys would eat this up, including me. Get Nightwing’s first look in Tales of The Teen Titans #44 (1984) for only $4. Only $4 you say? Yes, it was the 80’s folks and speculation existed at a fever pace thus mass production ensued. So the value of this first appearance should be more, but supply exceeds demand here.

imagelogo.gifImage Comics has only 1 character that would translate nicely to screen in my opinion. Getting away from the Invincible or Youngblood or Wilcats, one of my favorite characters out of the Image Universe library is Dale Keown’s ‘Pitt’. The Pitt has all the makings of a hit film within the structure of the character base. The Pitt is a monstrous alien looking creature with claws, fangs and a severe aggression problem. Then you have the little boy Timmy. Timmy is Pitt’s genetic equal in some ways and serves as the ‘Elliot’ if you will. For all of you who are saying ‘Who’s Elliot?’ he’s the little boy from E.T. If you are now saying, ‘who’s E.T.?’ stop reading and go to bed. The Pitt has similarities to the Hulk as far as the character structure goes, which was proven in the Image/Marvel crossover in 1996. Dale Keown has done a lot of Hulk work for Marvel, then the Pitt for Image, so it was only a natural chain of events to occur for Dale to draw these two together in the same comic. The Pitt first appeared in rob Liefeld’s Youngblood #4 in 1992. This comic in its mass production could probably be found in some 50 cent long boxes at some conventions or your local comic shop. Wouldn’t it be fun to see Image one up Marvel to show them how a Hulk movie should be done?

Badger 1 InvestComics

idwlogo.gifAn Image hero that used to be on board would have been a second choice for an Image Comic movie, but is now with IDW. He’s was originally from the defunct Capital Comics line. His name is Badger. Only a few things need to be known about this guy to understand why it would indeed be a successful movie. First and foremost, he’s a master of the martial arts. Second, he’s a Vietnam vet and third Badger has a multiple personality disorder. What fun! IDW (Hollywood, whoever here) would have multiple angles here. You’d have the excellent fighter dude, the war hero and a hero that suffers from being different people. Think Chuck Norris meets Me, Myself and Irene. Yes this would be a hoot! Check out Badger’s first appearance from 1983 in Badger #1, a cheap comic that would have some upside if the character was put into a more predominant role in some sort of hero/villain universe. Badger would be an entertaining movie with lots of jokes and with some serious as* kicking.

Well that’s about it for my comic book movie list. Do know that my list changes on a daily basis! These are just a few that came to my head as a thought if someone were to ask ‘what comic movie do you want to see made?’ There are thousands of characters and over 70 years to choose from. What would be your choices? Think of some outside the box and we’ll talk about them right here on Project Fanboy.

See you all soon and remember to turn off your cell phone when reading this article. We need quiet in this theater.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.
