It’s no secret Venom has dominated much of the Marvel universe within the last year or so. We’re not going to recommend to anyone to buyAmazing Spider-Man #300(first full Venom) because not only is that an obvious book to try and have in your collection, it’s idiotic to recommend it. That said,Venomverse #1will release this week and next week and maybe the week after with all of its reprints. Yes, it will sell out and no it won’t be worth jack in the aftermarket. Well, not really, lets explain. The regularVenomverse #1cover will be the least of anyone’s interest. It’s the Todd McFarlane variant that will peak the interest, as it has in the past already when Marvel pulled off the McFarlane variant. It’s also the dozen or so ‘rare/ratio’ covers that will also peak the interest. Venom is hot right now obviously and if you didn’t know or see this coming, well you’re on the wrong side of the speculation business. You’re not a speculation guru if you were telling everyone to buy the first appearance of Venom……you should always buy the first appearance of Venom. Period. Venomverse #1also features the first appearance of ‘Poisons’. Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay. The best part of the Venomverse series (event) is the heads up we have given our readers for months now. One of these Venom mash-ups are bound to break out and when it does, you should be on top of their first appearance. The recommendations from InvestComics for months regarding Edge of Venomverse may finally pay dividends down the line somewhere. Even the past Venom mash-ups must be on your radar, which we covered too. Also from Marvel this week will beVenomverse: War Stories #1. This comic and series will be exactly what we just spoke about in the last paragraph, but better. Better because Marvel knows where to cash in and they’re taking full advantage of it. They know fans love Venom and they love mash-ups, so why not cook up some short stories on possible characters that have not been mashed with Venom yet? Marvel Venomize’s Rocket Raccoon in this issue. Has he been Venomized yet? We don’t recall, please let us know without being a fanboy about it. If not, this is a first right out of the gate. …..And ONE more Venomized first; Venomized Omega Red on the cover ofX-Men Gold #11.
Buy/Bid – Venomverse #1
Buy/Bid – Venomverse War Stories #1
Buy/Bid – X-Men Gold #11
Buy/Bid – Astonishing X-Men #3
Marvel will fill in a little time gap between Star Wars The Force Awakens and Star Wars The Last Jedi with the release ofJourney to Star Wars The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma #1. This will be the hottest Star Wars book since we first met Doctor Aphra in Darth Vader’s book. Captain Phasma’s first solo series will not be the last we see of the character, this will be only the beginning. Think modern day Boba Fett and you get the idea of the possible magnitude this character may have. So with that said, one may wonder where Phasma first appeared. That would be inPoe Dameron #2. This comic is cover price in the aftermarket and sitting in some dollar bins right now. Not for long…… The newDaredevil #26comic may have a first appearance in it. Keep an eye out on this one. It will be hard to miss this issues Tom Lyle Typhoid Mary Venomized (first Typhoid Mary Venom?) variant though, so it won’t be that hard to ‘miss’ anything. The cover alone will have eyeballs on it. Typhoid Mary first appeared inDaredevil #254(1988). Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay. Ironheart meets with Iron Man inGenerations: Iron Man & Ironheart #1. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and art by Marco Rudy. We don’t usually discuss any comic book covers in our Hot Picks (except for Daredevil #26 earlier), we save that for our ‘Best Comic Covers’ (eye candy) article, but once in a while we have to point out something cool. Ed McGuinness gives the fan a quick Wolverine history lesson on theAstonishing X-Men #3cover. Ed’s cover sees a a young Wolverine, Weapon X, X-Men Wolverine, Old Man Logan and then his remains. Very neat and creative. Thank you Mr. McGuinness.
Buy/Bid – Captain Phasma #1
Buy/Bid – Poe Dameron #2
Buy/Bid – Iron Man & Ironheart #1
Buy/Bid – Star Wars Adventures #1
InvestComics Indie Hot Picks; There will be no doubt, the hottest indie on new comic book Wednesday will be The Walking Dead #171. The introduction/first appearance of ‘Princess’. This is called putting juice back into a book that needs it. Not saying Walking Dead is a dead (no pun intended) book, but it’s about that time this series need a jolt again. What’s been hot the last few years? The female leads, insert a NEW female character into a hot series and BAM, you have a hot book everyone is talking about. Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay. Marvel Comics has brought the Star Wars comic lure to a new creative level ever since getting the rights back to publish. They have done such a great job bringing in new fans and satisfying old fans. However, this week IDW Publishing prints a new all ages Star Wars comic;Star Wars Adventures #1. Now if this was a new Marvel release, collectors would be all over it. Since this is an IDW print, we will see if the bar has been set too high and if IDW can/will reach it. We say give it a shot, it’s Star Wars, nuff said. Writer Cavan Scott and artist Derek Charm.
One certainty within the indie comics market is this; a debut comic from Black Mask, After Shock Comics and Oni Comics usually have a habit of selling out. This weekMade Men #1from Oni Press will do just that….sell out. Writer Paul Tobin with artist Arjuna Susini. One of the hottest downloaded mobile games in history gets its own comic book.Fruit Ninja #1(Dynamite Entertainment). Will this equate to comic sales? Maybe. Will it equate to a sell out? Maybe. Will it equate to an aftermarket bump? Maybe. What we’re saying is that history has shown us that because a video game or mobile game sells billions, it does not mean the comic book will. 9.9 out of 10 times, it won’t. But it is Fruit Ninja and it does look bad as*. Written by Nathan Cosby and art by Ruairi Coleman. Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay. Zenescope Entertainment introduces a character/hero book this Wednesday; Black Sable #1. Written by Joe Brusha. New from Titans Books; The Evil Within #1 & The Girl Who Played With Fire #1, written by Sylvain Runberg and art by Jose Homs.

Mockingbird #1 – Newcomers Chelsea Cain and Kate Niemczyk bring fans a new series. We wait with bated breath for this series to deliver the goods. Which we think will.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates in purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).
IC 100 Club Pick: Logan’s Run #6 (1977) 9.0. If you’re a Thanos fan you’ll know exactly what this comic brings. A backup story appears in this comic and it happens to be the first ever Thanos solo story. A story from Scott Edelman and Michael Zeck. This nice grade will only cost you $66.99. If you’re a Thanos fan and a big Thanos speculator, this book is for you.

Marvel Team-Up #95 – Click to Buy/Bid
Mockingbird #1 – Click to Buy/Bid
Mockingbird #1 Afu Chan Cover – Click to Buy/Bid
All New Wolverine #6 – Click to Buy/Bid
Mockingbird #1 will be an interesting book from different vantage points. First, the character itself. Although Marvel is literally screaming in the solicit that we “DEMANDED IT!” we’re quite sure in actuality, in real life, we probably were not demanding it, but hey Mockingbird is a character within the comic book realm rarely looked at as a major character, If ever really. Not taking away from the potential of bad as* she can probably deliver in her own series, it’s just all so…..new. And it would be nice to get a deeper scope of a character that is making her way on the television series right now. As for the creative team. Best selling author (that’s books with no pictures in them) Chelsea Cain will scribe her third comic book ever. The first was a Mockingbird story, naturally and her second was a Hellboy story. Very new blood here and that’s a great thing. Maybe add a different flavor to this particular series and character we haven’t read yet. Moving onto the artist; Kate Niemczyk. Kate is so new that she has no penciling credits we can find. Nothing in the data basis. So we’re looking at a possible first published work here. All and all, a new rookie creative team may bring a bolt of life into this character not seen before. Keep an ear to the ground on this series. If word gets out that this series is bringing it, Mockingbird #1 will be a keeper. One more thing. A semi-newcomer does a fantastic action variant cover; Afu Chan. Check it out. Mockingbird first appeared in Marvel Team-Up #95 (1980) with a Frank Miller/Bob McLeod cover. Mr. Cosmic Jim Starlin returns to Marvel with a new Cosmic story, Infinity Entity #1. The story centers around Adam Warlock. As any fan of InvestComics already knows, we have been a buyer for many years on anything Adam Warlock. Adam’s first appearance as “HIM” was in Fantastic Four #67 (1967). His first appearance as Warlock was in Marvel Premiere #1 (1972). Both of these comics and anything in-between are solid comics to own. This all said, having Jim back into the mix again is a good thing. He never disappoints and always delivers great storytelling. Alan Davis will provide the art and the Marco Rudy variant is sweet. Yes, all around a definite pick up this week.

InvestComics gave fans a heads up about Deadpool’s team Mercs For Money right HERE, HERE and HERE. Lots of first appearances in there! Now comes Spider-Man Deadpool #3. Guess who makes their first appearance in this series? Yep, Mercs For Money! Not only will the Mercs For Money be a team of serious validity eventually, but the Spider-Man Deadpool comic series will be one of longevity. Get the early issues now before they are in demand later on. Click HERE for all available Spider-Man/Deadpool comics on Ebay. Some serious eye candy coming from Spider-Gwen #6. A Cap cover from Robbi Rodriguez and a variant Women Of Power Cover from Emanuela Lupacchino. And speaking of the Women Of Power covers, All-New Wolverine #6, Vanessa Del Rey cover is sold out.
DC’s Savage Dawn story line will be coming to a close very soon. The pre-finale Aaron Kuder Action Comics #50 cover is simply outstanding. And It looks like DC will be going with polybag Batman v Superman variant covers this week. We love the ‘ripped’ out eyes with the title of the comic. Detective Comics #50 will don the ripped eye cover as well. Great stuff here.

Mark Millar will introduce a new villain in Jupiter’s Circle #4 (Image Comics). Writers John Ulloa and Al Bondiga, along with artist Juan Navarro bring us a story about a sadistic killer rabbit that only a 7 year old knows about. Sounds like fun! Get Tommy #1 from Creature Entertainment. One of the variants is sold out. If the Elasticator #1 (Scout Comics) cover is any indication on what is going on inside the comic, we are all in. Mikey from Brooklyn on that cover. Yes, more please. Scout Comics also delivers another sold out Henchgirl comic; Henchgirl #5. Action Lab Entertainment follows up their sold out Voracious comic with Voracious #2.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for New Comic Releases on 10-2-13
The DC 3D madness is finally over! Rejoice and collect your monies in the aftermarket because interest will wane very quickly. In actuality it already has! Prices have been coming down at a rapid rate and if you haven’t sold yet, you may be late to the party. As already told here on InvestComics Hot Picks, you had to watch the 3D market very closely because of the hype surrounding the comics. The gimmick was going to be short lived as there will be a couple of those rare variant 3D’s that will survive the aftermath of the collapse. The best investments should be held for all of those first appearances pointed out during the 3D run here on InvestComics. Picking up a few of those first appearances should ensure that if a few of these villains bust out, make a comeback, a name for themselves, become the next ‘Bane’ or ‘Venom’ character for a major character, you will own that first appearance and be ahead of the curve!
InvestComics Hot Picks 10-2-13
Besides the sold out gimmick of the 3D covers, DC does in fact have a hit on their hands. Forever Evil is in fact hitting a home run with fans alike. Forever Evil (2013DC)#2 is completely sold out this week across the board. The prize this week will be the Black & white variant. Grab this; sell it on Ebay for a 25% return or possibly more very easily; immediately. Do not hold onto these comics folks. These are not life changing altering moments within the DC Universe, barring of course plotlines we are not aware of! There are some great storylines going on within these pages, but nothing is foreseen to change the market value or demand to sustain the trend upwards.
A trend in the comic book solicits market also continues however in Green Lantern (2011 4th Series)#24 this week. The words uttered so many times “…nothing will be the same, WE MEAN IT!” have been spoken far too often, but we as fans eat it up! Check out what writer Robert Venditti will bring to the table. Oh yes and the solicit also makes another common reference; “Lanterns will die”. Looking forward to it!
Batman Black and White (2013)#2 will bring legendary artist Jim Steranko to a Bat book again. Mr. Steranko will provide the gorgeous cover for this wonderful new series this week. It’s amazing to note that this legend has never provided as much DC artistry over his career. He’s thought of more as a “Marvel” guy, but when he does pencil any DC hero/villain, people take notice! With Batman though, his first official Batman work came in 1998’s Batman Black & White hardcover. Hard to fathom that given the profound career, he added Batman to his resume in 1998! The Batman work came in form of a tip-plate within the hardcover. Awesome, amazing stuff here folks.
In wrapping up DC here, Movement (2013 DC)#5 will debut the group ‘Graveyard Faction-death for hire’. Two sold out Vertigo books come our way this Wednesday; Hinterkind (2013 DC/Vertigo)#1 and Witching Hour (2013 DC/Vertigo) #1. The pleasant surprise here has to be the sold out Witching Hour #1. As a $7.99/70 pager’ all things point to the awesomeness of Vertigo. Even though the trend of a new book debuting with a $7.99 price tag, it usually tends to make some collectors/readers a little apprehensive, it doesn’t matter here though. Fans know this is going to rock! All 70 pages…..
Marvel Comics brings back a Marvel Knights Spidey book this week. Hooray! Check out the almost sold out regular cover Marvel Knights Spider-Man (2013)#1 this Wednesday (Variant cover sold out). The first Spider-Man Knights came in the 2004 by the same title and lasted only 22 issues. Maybe this time we’ll buck that trend and go longer! With writer Matt Kindt and artist Marco Rudy on board, it looks like a success already! And with a new Marvel Knights book, comes a new Marvel Max book too! What a great week! Take a look at Fantomex Max (2013) #1 miniseries at your local shop this week. It probably won’t disappoint. If this feeler goes over well, and fans demand more Fantomex, you better already own New X-Men #128 (2002). This would be the first appearance of Fantomex. Another three Marvel titles are on the cusp of sellouts and collectors should be put on alert. Captain America Living Legend (2013)#1 will be the highest alert. With writer Andy Diggle/artist Adi Granov on board and the introduction of a villain named Volkov, look for a possible aftermarket bump here. Marvel Universe Avengers Assemble (2013)#1 is based on the animated television show, but it’s the bonus Lego Marvel Comic within the extra sized issue here that has InvestComics intrigued. And finally from Marvel, any fan of Superior Spider-Man should probably take a look at All New X-Men Special (2013)#1 this Wednesday.
DC has offered up this peek at today’s SUPERBOY #7, in which Kon-El wakes up to discover that apparently he’s done a bad bad thing.
Written by JEFF LEMIRE; Art by MARCO RUDY; Cover by KARL KERSCHL
Ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Well, have you ever woken up to discover that you’ve given in to your evil side and taken over your hometown? Superboy has. And as much as he wishes it were just a dream, the stakes are all too real! Guest-starring Lex Luthor, Tim Drake, and introducing “The New Titans!”
