The InvestComics Hot Picks are back! Although a very short version this week, I’ll be more on track in the coming weeks. I’m working on a HUGE InvestComics Hot Picks Special. You’re going to love it!

Last weekend InvestComics was at the Orlando MegaCon 2014. That show keeps getting bigger and more awesome every year! Special thanks to Beth and Christine for allowing InvestComics to cover their event for the fourth year straight! Thank you!

I put together the short video below that features random video clips and images of the show. The InvestComics Facebook page and Instagram was packed full of live coverage from the show. If you are not on board yet following us on all of the social media listed above, you really should get crackin’! Lots of cool stuff going on there, including comic book giveaways!

Enjoy the video!

There are a total of 11 number ones featured on the Hot Picks. There is not another number available this week here. All number ones!

The one(s) to look out for? Inhuman (2014 Marvel) #1 should be right up there on top of your list. There are 6 covers that accompany the release of this book. Marvel is very high on calling this the next phase of their comic book universe. Yes we’ve all heard it before, but this looks special for some reason. ……..Although, I’m not quite sold on the $75 variant, too much on something that is simply a startup of a new universe for Marvel. If Marvel gives up on the direction then you lose on that expensive variant. If they don’t and it’s a hit, well you’re a big risk taker speculator that deserves kudos.

Everything Guardians of the Galaxy is a very big deal these days. This Wednesday we get a brand new Guardians book that is a prelude to the movie; Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude (2014) #1. I said it before like I have said on here about 50 times. The Guardians of the Galaxy movie will be the make or break going forward for Marvel Studios. If the movie doesn’t fair as well as they are counting on, things will slow down on the Marvel gravy train moving forward. Guardians MUST do well in order to carry the momentum for Marvel to do what they need to do as far as the Cosmic universe and their other movies. This movie is very important people, pay attention.

Two of the most overused characters in recent times will come together in one comic to kick each other asses. Check out Deadpool vs Carnage (2014) #1. Not so much for the spec here, just flat out fun. Same hold true for the new What If? Book; What If Age of Ultron (2014) #1. What if? comics have always been great reads.

DC likes the resurgence of their water man hero Aquaman. So much so that their going with a new number one with him. Check out Aquaman and The Others (2014) #1. Yes Aquaman is cool again, but he won’t be in a few years again when no one cares about him again. Unless a part in a movie? Aquaman and Namor await their turn, but it will probably be Marvel Studios who attacks the sea first and begins that universe someday. That’s unless Guardians tanks, scratch that off the list.

Three number one Image Comics coming this week and we all know how well number one Image Comics do in this market. Field (2014 Image) #1, Shotgun Wedding (2014) #1, and 68 Rule of War (2014) #1.

Caliban (2014 Avatar) #1 from writer Garth Ennis will be one to keep an eye on. Boom Studios Dead Letters (2014) #1 and from Dark Horse Comics; Itty Bitty Hellboy (2014) 1 For $1.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to share the InvestComics MegaCon 2014 video!

Stan “The Man” Lee

I love talking to people” – Stan Lee (InvestComics Interview from Orlando’s MegaCon 2012)

Well here it is fans, the InvestComics Interview with Stan “The Man” Lee! Was I nervous? Yes. Did I look it at times? Yes. Did I mess up at times? Yes. But all of that doesn’t matter to me personally. What matters is that I spent some time with a person that I never thought I’d ever get a chance to sit down with. An Icon within the Pop Culture realm…..a Legend. It all still seems so surreal, but it happened and I will never forget it.

Although this “mini interview” took place in February of 2012 and only clocks in at 5:59, I had a real problem with the audio track, hence why you are seeing it now. So BIG warning here, I DO NOT claim that this is good audio and at times you cannot even hear what Stan says! Through trying to enhance it, drop the noise reduction, add this add that along with a slew of other technically gobbledygook that I’m still trying to figure out I finally realized that it is what it is and that’s it! Sometimes you have to just succumb to the realization that you have to just make do with what you have and hope that it comes out decent enough for some to enjoy. Yes there will be cynics out there, but that’s to be expected and honestly I really don’t care because not many ever get to have a personal mono y mono with the Legend himself.

I did not get to spend as much time as I wanted with Stan. That said, I did have to cut out a lot of the video as well as having very cool “personal time” speaking with him that did not make it into this video. So I had to salvage as much “quality” video as I possibly could. The end result equated to 3 questions. Although it may not seem like much, ANYTIME spent with a one on one with a Legend is time you will have forever. I tried to make it a bit easier with laying out the questions within the video so that no one would have to sit through “more noise” while the questions are asked and are hard to hear. Yes there is lots of noise, lots of distractions, but it was a spur of the moment setup with not much preparation to get everything lined up the way it should have been. Oh well, C’est la vie.

The 3 questions are listed below. There are two personal favorite parts within this Interview. One was at the 1:57 mark where he is quoted at the beginning of this write up. One of the few parts that can be heard clearly and concisely! The second is at the 5:25 mark. Besides my big Kool Aid smile at that moment when Stan proclaims his battle cry, take a look at the kick Stan STILL gets from doing that. That’s a passion that is not matched by many these days.

1 – Stan, tell us about Pow Entertainment.

2 – You were the first Comic Book creator celebrity…did this happen by accident or naturally? (Fan question from Gene Hoyle)

3 – With digital comics making their way into the medium, do you think paper will ever go away?

Stan Lee can be followed on Twitter @therealstanlee

Stan Lee’s website can be found by clicking right HERE.

In closing; Stan Lee was both humble and gracious when I met him. He spoke to me as though he knew me for all of my childhood. Funny thing is, Stan did know me for most of my childhood. He knew many of us. I’m glad I got a chance to thank him for making me escape and believing in my favorite heroes. There is no creator out there that has the stature that Stan Lee carries. He’s a unique individual that has captivated, inspired and done so much for an industry that I am happy to be a part of.

Thank you to all the supporters out there, your positive attitudes and words carry me very far.

If Marvel can deliver on time with their new series SuperCrooks #1 from Mark Millar and Leinil Yu, they will have a hit on their hands. If not, well you know how that goes. Delayed books equal lost interest, equals who cares.

The next “big” Spider-Man event will begin this week (Didn’t we just have one for Spidey?). Amazing Spider-Man #682 brings in the storyline “Ends of Earth”. With all of the events Spidey and the rest of the Marvel Universe has endured in the past few years, it’s a waiting game to see how long before Marvel pushes the “restart button”.

IDW Publishing will bring back The Rocketeer again in Rocketeer Adventures 2 #1. This popular character created by Dave Stevens first appeared in Pacific Comics’ Starslayer #2 in 1982. This little gem is only $8! Not too shabby.

Stan Lee (who will be appearing on InvestComics soon!) has his new creation coming out this week called Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 #1. It should be a fun book to check out.

Our good friend Jeff Balke colors what will probably be an instant sell out in Dead Pooh from Antarctic Press. Yes its Deadpool meets Pooh. The cover is awesome, the character is awesome, and yes this is awesome.

Here are some other books to check out this week. IDW’s Dorothy of OZ Prequel #1, Image Comics’ Hoax Hunters #0 and Rebel Blood #1, Bluewater’s John Saul’s God Project #1, and Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales Presents The Jungle Book #1.

Scroll through some of the beautiful covers coming out this week below.

That’s it for this week. See you soon.

MegaCon 2012 Mini Recap & Photos

MegaCon 2012 is over. Another year in the books for InvestComics. It was spectacular as always.

This year was extremely special. Having met the Iconic Stan Lee and getting to sit down with him for a few minutes for an Interview was a defining moment for myself and InvestComics. Although there were some technically problems with the video, I asure you that I will get the interview out for all to see once it’s cleaned up. Meeting Stan Lee was a true milestone for InvestComics. The web site was acknowledged by Stan’s people to give the web site the go ahead to have a few minutes with the legend. The hard work is paying off……

I want to thank Pow Entertainment for the opportunity of a life time. Mr. Lee was as humble as they come. When we met, he acted as though we were family. Although that did nothing for my nerves!

Lots more to come regarding MegaCon 2012 with news to come as things are finalized. Looking forward to sharing with everyone!

…But for now, check out some fantastic pictures that the awesome Andra Walt took for InvestComics. Thank you Andra!!

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 3-31-10

ic33110fp.gifX-Men die, old heroes return and the debut of a hot video game makes it’s Godly comic book entrance…..

Hot Picks 3-31-10

xmensecondcoming.gifasm627.gifWhile at the Orlando MegaCon a few weeks ago, Dan Didio stated that from this point forward (what “point” exactly? Like as of RIGHT now…?) that when a character DIES in the DC universe they will stay DEAD. This was met with applause of course. Fans are tired of the soap opera approach on their comic book universe. Enough is enough. So with this in mind we are brought to Marvel’s X-Men: Second cloakanddagger1.gifspectacuspm64_1982.gifComing. The solicit reads; Many will be wounded, Several will die. Now we all know that the big 2 love to do things differently and do not want to follow in each other’s steps, but this in one time that Marvel needs to listen to DC and Dan Didio. If you’re going to “kill”, make sure we do not have another Phoenix on our hands. Please keep characters dead Marvel. We love having Steve back, but you should have kept him dead too. Sorry Cap fans, but comic storytelling needs to do away with the killing of characters to sell books. DC has recognized this and Marvel has to as well. Maybe they have already? If Joe Q said something about dead being dead, please email InvestComics™ and let me know. So after all the banter here, realize that this will be a very large X-Men event series. Second prints galore with this run. This will be a very cool event that will hopefully keep people dead. Speaking of cool, Cloak and Dagger #1 will be hitting shelves this week. Listen, if you were a collector back in the 80’s, you know how hot these characters were. With today’s comic world giving a lot of focus on the writing style as oppose to glow in the dark covers or overprints, Cloak & Dagger stand to have a very successful life in the new millennium. So much so that it will probably lead to a movie deal. Yes you heard it here first. Not blackestnight8.gifgoing out on a limb here since just about everything in the comic land gets looked at these days for a possible movie deal, but C&D will be a film one day and you need to get your paws (clean paws) on a copy of Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man #64 from 1982 (1st appearance of Cloak and Dagger). Pick up a mint copy at your LCS for $10/$15 and you have yourself a gem. Sticking with Spider-Man for a minute here, something or someone takes down the Juggernaut in Amazing Spider-Man #627. Make sure to see who or what that might be. Geoff Johns’ Blackest Night #8 comes out this week. What more could possibly be said about the greatest Lantern story ever told? Kudos to DC and Johns for bringing this epic story to us! Anyone remember Atari 2600? How about Nintendo 64? ColecoVision? Okay if you remember any of these then you are as old godofwar1.gifas I am. If you’re scratching your head, then go Google those names and come back to reading (by the way I hate you for being so young and not knowing those names! Just kidding!). So anyway, nowadays the gaming world is just way out of my league and I wouldn’t be able to tell you the first thing about any of them. BUT, I could tell you that one of the biggest selling games of all time is God of War! I know that much! It might not be number one of all time, but its right up there! So what would happen if one would release a comic book at the same time the new video game release came out? Well God of War 3 video game comes out alongside the release of the God of War #1 comic book. DC’s imprint Wildstorm has it and this will be a very big comic book. Do not sleep on this one folks. Check out the sell up on InvestComics last year with the special San Diego Comic Con Hot Pick.

Here are some extra Hot Picks heading your way next week……

See you all next week, Invest Wisely.
