Image Comics – #1 ongoing titles in 2013

Here are all the Image new ongoing series #1 issues this year

Sales are pretty consistent (20,000 to 30,000 range) for most of them and they are now all sell outs
After the peak of hype in hot Image comics a sales peak happened in March and April 2013. Prices have slowly been dropping down
Only Sex Criminals and Lazarus have had extra strong sales compared to the average Image title in recent months.
It can be debated that Zero is the rarest ongoing #1 Image title of 2013 as there is only 8,000 copies of each regular cover
Here are all the new Image titles ranked in order of rarity and smallest print run of #1
Ghosted #1 17,000 copies – 1 cover
Sheltered #1 19,000 copies – 1 cover
Chin Music #1 22,000 copies – 1 cover
Sex #1 23,000 – 1 cover
Zero #1 – 24,000 copies – 3 covers  (8,000 per cover)
Bounce #1 24,000 copies – 1 cover
Rat Queens #1 25,000 copies – 1 cover
Sidekick #1 27,000 copies – 2 covers (13,500 per cover)
Satellite Sam #1 32,000 copies – 1 cover
Sex Criminals #1 46,000 copies – 1 cover
Lazarus #1 48,000 – 1 cover
East of west #1 49,000 – 1 cover
Ten Grand #1 57,000 – 2 covers
Jupiters Legacy #1 105,000 – 4 covers (26,000 per cover)
Back in 2012 Image comics could actually gain in sales that wont happen now if readership grows on a title then back issues prices go up if all these new image titles don’t grow in readership than the #1’s are never gonna be worth much Comic sales need to grow or stay consistent and not continually drop month to month. Lets analyze some of the recent Image titles.
Great Pacific #9 4,700 an ongoing that just isn’t going anywhere sales wise Those sales are really weak for a Image ongoing title
Bounce #1 was 24,000 and #4 is 9,000
Sheltered #1 19,000 and #2 is only 9,000
Ghosted #1 17,000 and #2 is 10,000 no wonder they stated both issues sold out LOL cause nobody ordered them
Chin Music #1 22,000 and #2 was 14,000 notice the trend that most #2’s drop by about 40% that is a huge drop need to stablize by issue #3 or these titles are in trouble
Sex #1 was 23,000 and now at #6 its at 14,000 – that title has done quite well!! sex has only lost about 40% by issue #6 thats actually more popular than most
Ten Grand #1 57,000 and #4 is at 19,000 thats a drop of 60% by issue #4 not a good sign though of course it started way too high
Satellite Sam #1 32,000 and now #2 20,000 – again about 40% drop instantly
Lazarus #1 was 48,000 down to #3 24,000 – 50% by #3
East of West #1 49,000 to #5 36,000 that is super strong – barely lost any readers in 5 issues
Saga #1  37,000 and #13 is 55,000 – a gain in readership of 50% – SUPER HOT !
Walking Dead #1 6,000 and #114 is 70,000 – a gain in readership of 1200%
Its a simple formula release a great comic that readership grows and demand for back issues also grows The 3 Image titles on this list that have held the most readers are also the most valuable demanded back issues !

In comparison in late 2012 what were the sales figures of the latest new Image titles

I Love Trouble #1 7,900 copies

Clone #1 23,000 copies

Great Pacific #1 15,000 copies

Nowhere Men #1 11,800 copies

Bedlam #1 22,000 copies

…Each and every week the IC Hot Picks brings the fan an almost certainty. A book that will breakout or be on the verge of a major or sometimes minor uptick in the aftermarket. Whether it’s a Bear market (sell) or a Bull market (buy), InvestComics has your back. Hopefully many of you heed this professional advice and pick up the recommended comics at your local shop. Yes the digital age is nice, but your local comic shops are the reason we all love comics. Support your shops fans, it’s important. There is room for everyone on this ship.

So what certainty does the InvestComics Hot Picks have this week you may ask? How about Invincible? If by some strange non-apparent reason you have been living under a rock for the past 10 years or so, Invincible is essentially the modern day Peter Parker. You talk about Xbreakout potential? This character; Mark Grayson is it. With that said, the release of Invincible Universe (2013) #1 this week will prove once again that this Robert Kirkman character is to reign supreme. How much longer before we see Robert’s character on the big screen? Television? Not so much. Invincible would not bode well on the tube. On the big screen is where he belongs and WHEN he does, look out. Yes, look out for Tech Jacket #1 (2002) for his first appearance to explode in the aftermarket when Grayson finds his way to the movie theater.

On a much smaller scale this week fans will see X (2013 Dark Horse) #0 sitting on the new release shelf. Although Killer X from Dark Horse is not as well-known as Invincible, the character stands to be a bad ass if he catches on. His first appearance was in Dark Horse Comics #8 (1993). In 1994 X appeared in his own self-titled book which lasted only 25 issues. The number one issue featured Rick Leonardi on pencils and Jimmy Palmiotti on inks. Don’t let this comic slip through your hands this week; Dark Horse’s version of Batman is here.

InvestComics told you about sex. No not the birds and the bees, but Sex #1 from Image Comics. Was it the lure of the title that made the first comic sellout so quickly that it’s now going to a third printing? Well all indicators’ point to this NOT being the case. Crappy stories in today’s market do not go back to the printer that often. The 90’s maybe, that’s a different story. In today’s market, fans and collectors are much wiser; they’re not going to be fooled with the prism/die-cut cover anymore. It’s about substance, about what is in the middle of your ears. Any of the hype issues; death or the president on the cover will eventually wane. So are you in the mood? Feeling frisky? Don’t miss out on more sex with Sex (2013 Image) #2 out this week. Remember, the story must sustain here to remain a hot book. No reason not to think that will not happen though.

Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #19 has its attention on the Sleepwalker character. The appearance of this hero will not boaster sales at all for the Avenging Spidey title, but it will add to an interesting story. We hope. If one feels so inclined to look for Sleep’s first appearance; one can find it in the 25 cent box at your local shop or comic convention. Look for Sleepwalker #1 (1991). Sweet dreams!

With the Iron Man 3 movie hype fast approaching, Marvel brings us Secret Avengers (2013 Marvel) 2nd Series #3. Why is this relevant to the new movie? Why it’s the “deadly new secret” of the New Iron Patriot. Yippee! Iron Patriot first appeared in Dark Avengers #1 (2009). And you already own that book…..right?

Rounding out the InvestComics Hot Picks this week are DC Batman Lil Gotham (2013) #1, Colonized (2013 IDW) #1, Kiss Solo (2013 IDW) #1,andG.I. Joe Cobra Files (2013 IDW) #1.

InvestComics Hot Picks #259 – “Other comics that should be on your radar this week; Sex (2013 Image) #1″ Nuff’ said.

First issue of new superhero series gets second printing

This week, Image Comics demonstrated what everyone has suspected all along: SEX sells. Joe Casey’s and Piotr Kowalski’s comic book SEX, that is — a subversive take on superheroes that takes a former costumed crime-fighter into the underbelly of the city he’d formerly sworn to protect. The first issue, which made its debut with a limited edition exclusive cover at Emerald City Comicon and landed in stores on March 6, has sold out and will receive a second printing.

SEX #1 was the Pick of the Week at iFanboy: “It’s a book both titillating and somber, bright and dusky.”

“[F]for as much as this title begs for the attention of being called a porno mag disguised as a comic book, it refrains from titillation in favor of creating a fascinating character study amongst a fully realized neo-noir world.” –IGN

The second printing of SEX #1 will be in stores on April 3 and can be pre-ordered now (Diamond Comics code JAN130476). SEX #2 will be in stores on April 10.
