The Best New Covers This Week 7-30-25
Bring on the Bad Guys Loki #1
by Anand Ramcheron, Lee Bermejo, and Miguel Mercado clearly didn’t get the memo about subtlety. The first cover by Anand Ramcheron gives us Thor and Loki mid-brawl—because nothing says family reunion like electrocuting each other with divine weapons. With a stark white background, their vibrant costumes scream at us louder than Loki’s staff. Then Lee Bermejo steps in with the darker take, showing Loki mid-laugh like he just heard the world’s worst dad joke, and Thor’s arm is creeping in with Mjölnir, about to ruin the punchline. Bermejo knows mood, and this is what madness looks like. But Miguel Mercado clearly had other priorities—his cover might show Loki dancing… or slapping someone. We’re still undecided. His portrait, to the left, in all yellow tones, pops against the all-white background. But his devious grin and bright white backdrop also highlight the green-and-yellow costume on full blast. You’re either getting tricked or seduced. Maybe both.

Spawn #368 by Kael Ngu, because if a cover doesn’t feel like it’s trying to claw off your face, is it even Spawn? Spawn is full-on charging toward us, chains flying out of the book like it’s trying to file for 3D status. One arm is mid-swing with a sword that you just know is going to ruin someone’s night. The background is a dark mystic green that lets Spawn’s crimson cape scream across the scene like a fire alarm. There’s nothing subtle here, and that’s exactly how we like it.

Spider-Man & Wolverine #3 by Kaare Andrews nearly stole the Cover Gem crown this week, and for good reason. It’s like the 90s called and demanded chaos. Spider-Man and Wolverine are charging at us like it’s a buddy cop movie gone prehistoric, while a T-Rex looms behind them looking like it wants billing on the cover. The energy here is unfiltered, the layout wild, and Kaare Andrews reminds us—again—that he doesn’t know how to miss. Every line punches like a panel from a lost 90s action movie.

Gehenna Naked Aggression #2 by Nick Pitarra pulls no punches. Or pants. This is one of those covers that walks the tightrope of controversial and captivating. The lead character is seated wide-legged in a skin-tight one-piece top that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. She’s holding a gun to the right, focused, armed, and completely aware of how much attention this cover is demanding. It’s provocative, raw, and aggressively confident—like the indie book that dares mainstream collectors to blink first.

The Flash #23 by Davide Paratore doesn’t bother with subtext—it hits you straight in the speed force. The Flash is centered, surrounded by bursts of electric yellow/white lightning, while his rogues gallery looms behind him like a supervillain Mount Rushmore. The orange-hued backdrop gives the entire piece a scorched intensity, and Flash’s red-and-black suit cuts right through it. Paratore doesn’t just draw motion—he sells you on it like your longbox depends on it.

DC’s Kal-El-Fornia Love #1 by Mahmud Asrar gives us Power Girl in full icon mode. She’s calm, poised, and unbothered by the crashing waves hitting her. The sun hits just right, lighting up her wind-blown cape like a cinematic still. And yes, there’s no mistaking the focus on her very emphasized silhouette—this cover knows what it’s doing. Asrar balances beauty with strength and delivers something that’s going to spark some online commentary… and maybe a few sealed bag variants.
