Thor to Take Spider-Man’s Spot in the Summer of Superhero Movies in 2011?

We reported this morning that the release of Spider-Man 4 has been delayed, and now it seems Thor will be taking the date.

Superherohype reports that Marvel Pictures and Paramount have decided to take the May 6, 2011 release date that was previously reserved for Sony’s Spider-Man before the studio announced a proposed delay. This is two weeks earlier than Thor was originally intended to debut, but the gap potentially left by Spider-Man allows Thor to gain a head start on the other superhero and geek movies coming out that summer.

First, of course, there is Spider-Man, which now, according to Sony Pictures, has not entirely given up hope on the May 6th date. If Spider-Man does end up keeping the date, Thor will move once again. Green Lantern from Warner Bros. is set to come out on June 17th. Next, on July 4th, Transformers 3 kicks off, followed by Harry Potter 7 two weeks later, and Captain America two weeks after that. Captain America, by the way, has still not announced any cast members, so it is possible that the release will be pushed back.
