Avatar Breaks Dark Knight and Spider-Man Records

James Cameron’s Avatar has broken the Dark Knight’s worldwide gross, becoming the fourth highest grossing (worldwide) movie of all time.

Avatar, the 3D CGI monstrosity by acclaimed director James Cameron, is going strong after 17 days at the box office, breaking the Dark Knight’s worldwide gross record with no signs of slowing down. The movie is aided by higher ticket prices for IMAX and 3D showings, as well as a lack of competition during this season, but it still an impressive take for a movie that some people thought would be a dud.

The movie also set a New Year’s Day Weekend box office record, taking in million, double the million of second place Sherlock Holmes, which is the newer movie. If Avatar stays on track, it will certainly crack the top ten all time domestic grossing movies.
