Amazing Spider-Man #37There are a few things to point out with this new Spidey comic this Wednesday. First, the more recent Spidey-Deadpool-Venom mash-up character makes an appearance again. Rek-Rap is back. His first appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #17 a few months ago. The Insidious Six also make their first appearance here too. A CGC graded 9.8 sold for $140 recently. Not too shabby at all. Second, Marvel is said to release first appearance Spider-Man 2 video game covers. The covers will have Spider-Man donning various skins he’s never worn before in a comic from the game, thus creating a “first” for a cover. As always, anything ever takes off later on (speculative) regarding a character first appearing on a cover like this, this would be the first place you’d look. Thirdly, and finally, Disney will have a Disney 100 variant cover with various Disney characters cosplaying as our favorite Marvel characters. And like we have stated with these Disney characters making appearances on these variant covers, possible first appearances are always at play here.
Punisher #1 – We covered this comic in our Marvel Comics Hot Pick Spotlight – Punisher #1 post. We don’t have much to add, so we’re going to copy and paste what we already said.
Marvel first introduced the Punisher character back in 1974 (Amazing Spider-Man #129). A simple calculation puts this character at 49 years old. It’s safe to assume that Marvel never thought back in 1974 that the character would be as pulverizing as it would become in recent times. The Punisher symbol itself was the onset of the “beginning of the end” for the cancelation of the character. Marvel fans have not seen nor heard of the character for a very, very long time. If you don’t know the whole story, Google it.
Since the dust settled a bit regarding the “symbolism” the Punisher stood for and how the court of public opinion perceives the character, Disney/Marvel have decided it’s time to forge ahead and try to bring one of its most iconic characters to a truer form back into the Marvel fold. They brought it back not too long ago, a few months back, with a “new look” chest symbol that didn’t bode too well with comic book fans. Disney/Marvel replaced the iconic weaponry of the Punisher guns with swords. This too did not bode too well either. Disney realized right away, through fan outcry, that they’d made a grave mistake and are looking to make it right THIS time around.
Along with a new Punisher chest symbol, one that is a tad closer to the one most fans are accustomed to seeing, the guns are back too. One major change here, this Punisher is not Frank Castle. Fans will be introduced to a new Punisher here. Who is the new guy? Where is he from? Why is he donning the Punisher gear? So many questions and we’ll have to await the answers. Some may be answered out of the gate in the debut issue, but we look forward to the unfolding of the new Punisher’s background throughout the series.
Writer David Pepose and artist Dave Wachter usher in the new era of the Punisher this Wednesday.
Thanos #1 – Marvel’s billing this as Thanos vs. The Illuminati. Thanos come stop earth to retrieve something he misplaced and now all hell will break loose. Which is quite awesome for us. Writer Christopher Cantwell and artist Luca Pizzari.
Star Wars The High Republic #1 – Phase 3 in this storyline. Writer Cavan Scott and artist Ario Anindito.
G.O.D.S. #2 – Jonathan Hickman’s new cosmic universe continues to take shape. Look for more first full appearances as this story unfolds.

Batman #139A new story arc begins, Mindbomb. DC promises the most brutal fight between the Joker and the Batman ever. Let’s see what Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez bring to this arc. We have a good feeling we won’t be disappointed. Along with this new release, a Todd McFarlane action figure variant cover, depicting Bane breaking Batman’s back.
What If…The Dark Tomb Of Dracula #1 – Legendary writer Marv Wolfman writes this one-shot comic. Artist David Cutler will provide the pictures.
We all know by now that Boom Studios has a knack for releasing ridiculously stellar horror stories. Will either one of these be another hit for them? Harrower #1, written by Justin Jordan and drawn by Brahm Revel. And Zawa #1, written and drawn by Michael Dialynas.
The Joker The Man Who Stopped Laughing #12
– DC calls this “the brutal” finale.
Petrol Head #1 – A new robot-based series from Image Comics. Writer Rob Williams and artist Pye Parr.
Star Wars The High Republic – Shadows Of Starlight #2Marvel teases, stating there will be “more secrets” revealed. With Mr. Star Wars writer himself at the helm, Charles Soule, anything is possible.
