An interesting start to this week’s InvestComics Hot Picks….

63292-3857-96288-1-silver-surferSilver Surfer first busted onto the Marvel Comics scene in 1966, while two years prior Daredevil was already making his indelible mark within the Marvel Universe. You want some cool facts? How about this? Silver Surfer didn’t appear inside a Daredevil comic until 24 years after his first appearance in Daredevil #281. Understandable you say why would these two characters ever cross paths, but 24 years to make a guest appearance? How about this? Daredevil returned the favor in a Surfer book 7 years after Daredevil #281 in Silver Surfer #128! So it took DD 33 years to make a guest appearance in a surfer comic! And check out that Surfer cover by Ron Garney to the right. Such a beauty I didn’t want it to get lost in the shuffle in the scroll gallery. So why all of this SS and DD talk you ask? Well in a rare moment this week, Silver Surfer is set to appear in Daredevil (2011 3rd Series) #30. Yes this is rare indeed.

Arrow (2012 DC) #10 will debut Shado’s character into the DC Comics universe this week. Yes, you’re saying to yourself, huh? According to the DC Comics solicit; Shado will make her comic book debut. Well either this is one of those bogus New 52 things where “everyone” is making their debut, or this is a severe lack of bad solicitation. Maybe the wording was meant to say that the television character Shado will make her debut? Because Shado did first appear back in 1987’s Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters #1. Granted the 1987 version is different from that of the current version, but essentially the same character with a new spin. Bottom line is that Shado’s first appearance is in 1987, not 2013.

Green Arrow Longbow #1With a little help from our friends at InvestComics, Terry Hoknes has provided his awesome column on the website that gives readers the insight on what number one comics are sold out and close to being sold out, or not even close in some cases. So with a combination of his spectacular list and the InvestComics Hot Picks, we dive into some number one (and zero) comics you may want to watch.

The leader of the pack goes to Big Dog Ink; Penny For Your Soul Death (2013 Big Dog Ink) #1. Very few copies are hanging on at the distributor right now. One of the variants is already sold out. The  Batman Beyond Universe (2013) #1 variant is completely sold out with quite a few regular covers waiting to be snatched up on reorder. This comic can be sold out in a hurry if word gets out that this series is an ass kicker. Plenty of Kiss Kids (2013 IDW) #1 issues still available, one of the variants is sold out. Living Corpse Haunted (2013 Dynamite) #0 One Shot sits with 34 copies in the warehouse, as Bloodshot (2012 3rd Series) #0 will most likely see a second print coming shortly.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to sign up to the InvestComics Newsletter. Be the first to find out about the NEW Contest coming up! HINT: Jim, Scott, and Clark.
