Invaders first appearance: Avengers #71 (1969)

There is a glaring Marvel comic (obvious) coming this Wednesday that will be on your radar, but it won’t amount to much in the long run. Let’s explain…….

This week Marvel will give collectors the awesomeness of All New Invaders (2013) #1. Awesomeness is given in the form of six covers including the regular cover on this one. The awesomeness also comes in the form of a $60 incentive variant from John Cassaday. Get this signed and graded (as always, get a 9.8 or higher!), and you’ll have a nice aftermarket party for yourself. With all of the good comes some bad news. Well not bad news, but news and common sense that brings us to a conclusion that the All New Invaders #1 will be a short lived aftermarket party. Besides the numerous restarts that ended early and the constant playing of a bridesmaid everywhere,  all one has to look at is the cover(s) and understand the reasoning behind the “bad” speculation here. The cover(s) reveal the team of Captain America, Winter Solder, Namor, and the original Human Torch. With most of the cinema entries driving the Marvel and DC Comic characters these days, it’s quite easy to see why the Invaders will probably never see the light of day on the big screen. Cap and Solider are already in a film together; probably a onetime deal but Bucky will probably see his own movie years down the line one day. The Human Torch, well he’s tied up with FOX Pictures and they aren’t letting him go to Marvel Studios anytime soon, and last but not least is Namor. Here’s the great thing about Namor, InvestComics called the entire Marvel Cosmic movie deal about 10 years ago and that came to fruition. Marvel is all in with phase III, which includes Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and will probably include Black Panther among others not announced just yet. Want some good news? Back to Namor……Disney has gone by land, space, and is even hitting the mystical world (which Disney loves too!).  Disney also loves…. you guessed it, water! Yes we are a ways a way from seeing a “water phase” from Marvel, but it will probably happen. Imagine the epic filmography/storytelling Marvel Studios can put together here regarding an all water film. You heard it here first (again). I’ve given you a good head start here. Get your Marvel water world in order; you will thank me much later on.

As long as we’re on semi-Avengers talk here, be sure to check out Avengers (2012 5th Series) #25 this week. It’s the intro of the All-New Avengers team and a character bites the dust too.

Marvel’s last entry in this week’s Hot Picks is Empire of the Dead Act One (2013) #1. Another, yes another zombie related comic book. This comic will be brought to you by legendary zombie extraordinary George A. Romero.  Will this equate to aftermarket happiness for the speculator? The numbers say so. Sold out across the board.

Said it before, I’ll say it again. Be wary of the zombie genre.  It is bound to collapse eventually. When it does, I surely hope you are rid of most of your zombie books before it happens because they will be a hard resell.

One of the top speculative comics, if not THE book to pick up this week is Deadly Class (2013) #1. Writer Rick Remender doing the honors here and it looks like a fantastic story ahead as well. Words like assassin, murder, Japan, killing, body count, and dangerous teenagers accompany the Image Comics solicit. It’s sold out; best get your hands on this one.

Here’s a quick list of sold out variants and almost sold out regular cover comics coming at you this Wednesday. Archies Funhouse Double Digest (2013) #1, X-Files Conspiracy Ghostbusters (2014) #1, Bad Ass (2014 Dynamite) #1, Wonderland Asylum (2014) #1, TMNT Utrom Empire (2014) #1, Hacktivist (2014) #1, Scribblenauts Unmasked Crisis Of Imagination (2013) #1, Jack Hammer (2014) #1, Unwritten Apocalypse (2013 Volume 2) #1, and Judge Dredd Mega City Two (2013) #1.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.
