InvestComics Hot Picks: New Key Comic Releases for 11/06/24

In this week’s InvestComics Hot Picks, we’re diving into some monumental releases for collectors and speculators alike. From Marvel’s new takes to DC’s legacy heroes, here’s everything you need to know for New Comic Book Day on 11/06/24.

Absolute Superman #1 redefines the Man of Steel in a storyline penned by Jason Aaron with art by Rafa Sandoval. Stripped of his fortress, his family, and even his home, Superman is left with only himself. This isn’t the beacon of hope we know; it’s a raw, hardened Superman with a new take on justice. As Aaron and Sandoval reinvent one of DC’s most iconic heroes, collectors will want to get in on this issue for what could become a landmark Superman arc. Batgirl #1 sees Cassandra Cain stepping back into the solo spotlight after nearly twenty years. When a deadly assassin crew targets her, Lady Shiva—Cass’s estranged mother—returns to protect her daughter. But, of course, nothing is simple between these two. Their complicated, adversarial relationship adds layers to an action-packed story brimming with martial arts mastery and Gotham’s signature grit. It’s a high-stakes mother-daughter showdown, and for collectors, a rare solo appearance like this is a potential game-changer. Avengers #20 offers something fresh in the form of Marvel Thing variant covers, where we’re treated to a brand-new mash-up character, blending the Thing’s rugged persona with other Marvel icons. This variant series is turning heads and could very well become a collector’s favorite as the run unfolds. That said, there are only two or three we fancy the most, so we will not post all the covers here each week, just the ones we see with potential upside only. Kahhori Reshaper of Worlds #1 introduces one of the most buzzed-about breakout characters from Disney+’s What If…?. Kahhori, the fierce Mohawk warrior who’s already saved reality once, now debuts in the 616 universe. Ryan Little, co-creator and award-winning writer, teams up with a lineup of Indigenous talent to celebrate her heritage and journey. With guest stars popping up and a fresh roster of creators making their debut, Kahhori’s comic debut feels like it could be a cornerstone for Marvel’s lineup moving forward.

JSA #1 brings a powerhouse roster to the page as DC’s first super-team tackles a high-stakes showdown against the new Injustice Society of America. This isn’t just any roster—Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Jade, Obsidian, Jesse Quick, Hourman, Ted Grant, and Sandman reunite, blending golden age ideals with a fresh, hardcore edge. In a world still grappling with the fallout of Absolute Power, can these classic heroes prove they’re just as relevant today? This issue could be a treasure trove for fans and collectors—expect some intense speculating here. Meanwhile, in Little Batman Month One #1, Damian Wayne grapples with his dual identity as Little Batman and regular kid, all while Gotham City recuperates from the Joker’s latest attack. Now under pressure from Bruce to prioritize his secret identity, Damian is forced to balance his love for heroics with his role at Wayne New Year’s Eve Party, where a mysterious visitor is lurking. With film screenwriter Morgan Evans bringing his voice to the page, Damian’s journey is more than just another adventure; it’s a glimpse into the future of the Wayne legacy. The re-release of Merry Little Batman only adds fuel to the collecting fire for fans. Speaking of epic clashes, Aliens vs. Avengers #2 dives deeper into an Earth ravaged by Xenomorphs. With humanity on the brink, the Avengers are tasked with exacting vengeance against an enemy unlike any they’ve faced before. Survivors are reeling, wounded, and some shockingly altered, creating a charged atmosphere that could hold huge implications for both Marvel and the Avengers lineup. Collectors who revel in mash-ups and crossovers will find this one a unique addition. The Ultimates #6 wraps up the arc with the entire Ultimates team finally assembled in a showdown against the Hulk, controlled by the sinister Maker’s Council. Iron Lad has a strategy to subdue this nearly unstoppable Hulk, but has his ambition placed the team in a no-win scenario? This high-stakes conclusion leaves room for plenty of surprises, which means collectors will be watching closely for any game-changing developments or character revelations.
