Popeye Movie in the Works?

Former Marvel Studios head and producer of the upcoming Ghost Rider 2 and Spider-Man 4 Avi Arad has secured the rights to produce a new movie based on the spinach fueled brawler Popeye the Sailor.

Arad has secured the rights to the film version of Popeye the Sailor, and plans to create a CGI movie based on the popular character. Popeye first appeared in comic strip form in 1929, and as a result of being so old, is in the public domain in many countries. It will be interesting to see not only whether Popeye has a large enough fanbase to make a successful movie, but also how his violent ways will be toned down in the PC age.

There is no word as of yet on whether or not Uncle Joey from Full House will be doing Popeye’s voice in the new movie.
