Web background

InvestComics_1We’re almost a month into 2015 already and we haven’t mentioned a very special anniversary coming up. In July of this year, InvestComics will be celebrating its ten year anniversary. Ten years of some amazing articles, interviews, videos and so much more. In celebration of our 10 years, each week we will post a little something reflecting on our awesome run. Pictured to the right is the very first InvestComics magazine that was published in 2007. It was a monthly magazine detailing some comics we deemed necessary for speculators to look out for. We spoke about Deathlok’s first appearance and how we felt he would eventually hit the big screen or television one day. Astonishing Tales #25 was a great book to pick up back then and it’s a great book today. Things don’t change that often because many of our speculation picks come to fruition around here quite often. It’s a natural progression to always be on top at InvestComics and we will continue to always do so. Dating back a few years ago (2012), InvestComics went to Tates’s Comic shop to cover the very first DC Hero Initiative sketch cover event (Tate’s Comics – Hero Initiative Event). We are proud of this video for so many reasons. First and foremost, the event explained the importance of Hero Initiative. Secondly, getting perspective from the fans about what Hero Initiative means to them, Third, speaking with Alex Saviuk was fantastic, and then some nice pictures of the the actual covers themselves. AND it also features the awesomeness of Jo. Shes’s the manager at Tate’s. Check out the short video below. We hope you enjoy it as much as we had making it.

Spider_2099_Spider_Verse_InvestComicsDeathstroke_4_InvestComicsSpider-Verse continues this week and you know how we feel about that here at InvestComics. For the newer subscribers here on InvestComics, we can tell you that we are big on buying anything Spider-Verse at this point. InvestComics was saying this way before Spider-Verse even started. There are simply too many variables with this massive crossover event. Too many possibilities of a breakout character or a surprise introduction. Get Spider-Man 2099 (2014 2nd Series) #8 this week and enjoy the read. Even if nothing substantial happens in this book, it’s still a great story line.

Speaking of substantial. Recent news says that Marvel will be doing a complete overhaul of their universe. So what does this mean for new titles like Uncanny Avengers (2014 Marvel) 2nd Series #1? Will all number ones moving forward mean anything in the new Marvel Universe? I think Marvel may have touched on this, but most of us stopped reading after we realized that Marvel is essentially doing a New 52 move but on steroids. Which is okay because lets face it, Marvel (Disney) are here to make money and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! Many fanboys will moan and groan about change, but it’s about keeping a business thriving and fresh, not about keeping things in a constant “norm” to satisfy a nostalgic bunch. Things change and change is good. Those fanboys that whine Bitch_Planet_2_InvestComics Uncanny_Avengers_1_Marvel_InvestComicswill be the first to buy the new Marvel universe books because those are the same ones who claimed never to buy a Spidey book again after Joe Quesada turned everything upsidedown.

Deathstroke will make his way into Gotham in Deathstroke #4. You have to check this book out. Tony Daniel is killing it as he usually does. How is this dude not a huge draw at comic conventions is a huge mystery. Seriously. InvestComics for years and years has been calling this guy out since his amazing AMAZING Batman run.

Image Comics will give readers the second issues of two hot number one comics. Bitch Planet (2014) #2 and They’re Not Like Us (2014 Image) #2 are set to arrive after their first issues sold out. Looks like more of the same here. Two other Image titles are on the cusp of selling out; Casanova Acedia (2014 Image) #1 and Dying and the Dead (2014 Image) #1.

It’s always interesting to read a new DC/Vertigo title. Check out Effigy (2015 DC/VERTIGO) #1. Looks like the typical edgy goodness of a Vertigo title. Good stuff.

Punks_The_Comic_4_InvestComicsPunks The Comic (2014) #4 pays homage to a very familiar Marvel comic cover. And Find (2015 Comixtribe) #1 and Munchkin (2014 Boom) #1 look interesting.

See you soon. Invest wisely. Read comics.

Carpe Diem.

If you are a regular InvestComics monthly newsletter subscriber you found out before everyone else about the very cool things in store for you the fan. Pictured above are the cool giveaways (and one special auction) that will be happening for the next few months. Included in the awesome bunch is the InvestComics One & Done Anthology signed right on the cover by some of the industry’s best. This Anthology which rose over $250 so far for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund will be auctioned off on Ebay with the proceeds going to the CBLDF. Hang tight for that auction (Lots of giveaway contest beforehand). The auction announcement will be splashed all over the InvestComics landscape, so you won’t miss it when it does happen. So who did exactly sign that cover you ask? How about Dan Parent, Chuck Dixon, Billy Tucci, Neal Adams, Alex Saviuk, Nelson Ortega, Terry Cronin, Ethan Van Sciver, Georges Jeanty, Adam Hughes, Rob Hunter, Jim Cheung, Gail Simone, Bob Layton, Whilce Portacio, Rick Osman, Frank Tieri, Bob McLeod, Jimmy Palimotti, Chris Claremont, Mark Bagley, Frank Cho, Amanda Conner, George Perez, and Paul Pelletier. And to top off the list, I (Jay Katz) will sign the inside. That’s quite the list there isn’t it?? Okay Hot Picks time. There are certainties in life. The character Thanos is one such case. So is the fact that last Sunday InvestComics informed you guys/gals that East of West #1 is a not to miss book. Yes, listen to the Broker when he tells you about the certainties in the collectors market. It’ll do your wallet some good. So getting back to Thanos now, if you ever doubted anything in the speculation market, this one would not be the one to doubt. If you don’t own or are thinking about owning Iron Man #55, stop thinking and do it. I cannot stress enough how much Thanos is going to make an impact on the movie side of things. The best comparison to make here is actually quite simple. Thanos will be the modern day Darth Vader. I have said this before and I will keep saying it. Thanos’ impact in the theaters will directly impact the back issue market. This said, this week Thanos Rising (2013) #1 will be altering the Marvel Universe as we know it. Yes that villain Thanos is going to bring it and you better be ready. This dude is a bad ass.

…..More certainties this week; Harbinger Wars (2013) #1. This comic will be a quick sell out, so you better grab one off the shelf before they disappear.

Superior Spider-Man (2012) #7 will see the return of Cardiac. The first appearance of Cardiac came in Amazing Spider-Man #342. Want to feel old? This comic was penciled by Erik Larsen 23 years ago!! 1990….23 years ago!! Wow.

DC Comics celebrates with a special issue of Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #19. “Mystery of the 900!” Umm, okay.

….More certainties this week; Regular Show #1. This book will be harder to find than any other in the aftermarket for cover price after Wednesday. Yep.

So with Venom (2011 Marvel) #33 we get the ol’ homage cover thingy going. Isn’t that nice? One little thing here though. Spawn #222 a few issues ago did the same exact thing. Two comics in such close proximity of each other paying homage to Todd McFarlane’s (paid himself homage; he’s proud of himself) Amazing Spider-Man #316. Click on the collage below to see a bigger image of all 3 covers side by side. Which one do you like best?

Okay so wrapping up. How about a bunch of number one and number zero issues to look out for? Miss Fury (2013 Dynamite) #1 (Look at that cover – holy assets Batman!), Robyn Hood vs Red Riding Hood (2013 Zenescope) #1, Steam Wars (2013 Antarctic Press) #0 (interesting concept here, Star Wars theme = sold out), Tales of Fear (2013 Aazurn) #1, Unleashed (2013 Zenescope) #0, Snow Angel (2013 Dark Horse) #0, Last of Us American Dreams (2013 Dark Horse) #1, andPolarity (2013 Boom) #1.

A very special thanks goes out to Sebastian Piccione (Sunday Knight Comics) for hosting many of the interviews, he was a trooper, losing his voice and all. There were two discoveries that occurred at the show as well. 1; Dirk Grobb. He is a phenomenal artist. Fans need to know who this guy is and buy commissions from him if you see him at a show. Not only can he draw, but he’s a super cool dude too! 2; Brianna Floss. This girl did a couple of interviews for InvestComics and was great! She too is a super nice gal and will hopefully stay close to InvestComics for some more interviews because she’s an undiscovered talent! We don’t want to share! Thanks Bri!! Now go LIKE these two awesome people on Facebook right now! InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 1-18-12

Welcome to InvestComics Hot Picks 1-18-12

Jumping right into this week’s books, Uncanny X-Force #20 begins a 4 part saga “The Trail of Fantomex”. The first part features guest Captain Britain. The character was first introduced in the UK (naturally right?) in 1976. Captain Britain #1 debuted with writer Chris Claremont and artist Herb Trimpe. A beautiful creative combo here to say the least. You would be hard pressed to find this newspaper weekly in Near Mint condition, but that shouldn’t deter you from owning the first appearance of Britain’s “Captain America”. A mere $30 could get you ownership of this book. Not bad at all considering the possible upside to the character. Upside pertaining to all of the re-launch possibilities, the movie possibilities, and the fact that Marvel hasn’t really had a breakout overseas of a “non-American” character in a while. Why else would Marvel throw out Captain Britain if they weren’t seeing what the potential market value is on him? If the demand is there, we may see more CB, if not, maybe Marvel is planning on putting forth the initial steps to try and break him out…. (again). Excalibur anyone? Cap’s first U.S. appearance came along in Marvel Team-Up #65 (1977). This comic (a reprint from the UK, redone) could be found in the 1 dollar long boxes at your local comic shop or Convention.

The British run on CB has one very interesting issue if you’re not aware of it. Captain Britain #8 features the first appearance Betsy Braddock. Who’s Betsy? Well if you’re an X-Man fan, (or a comic fan) you’d know that Betsy is also Pyslocke. This issue is the bigger prize (monetarily) within the CB run at $50, although the better value probably may lie in the number one issue. Maybe the British invasion will happen one day in the Marvel Universe, if it does it’ll start with Captain Britain.

Staying with Marvel for a couple of more books here, Uncanny X-Men #5 introduces readers to a NEW Marvel universe, and that’s always a lot fun! The new abode is called Tabula Rasa. (And by the way, Tabula Rasa is not a fictionally made up “word, place, thing” in case you’re wondering. If you want to impress some of your friends click HERE to get the meaning and win prizes by betting with them! Thank us later!). The thing about new universes within a comic book company and or story opens up a broader possibly of bringing in new characters, new villains, etc. That said however, it usually does not equate to a collector’s item. Case in point Planet Hulk, Greg Pak did a divine job introducing an entire new universe with not much fanfare afterward, but he did open that proverbial door.

The last Marvel comic this week to cover is Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #6. This one introduces the NEW Ultimate Scorpion (for the second or third time, but who’s counting?).

DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes #5 brings a Legend on board for a single issue. Artist Walt Simonson graces us all with his amazing style. If you’re in the mood to have some fun you can look for Legion of Super-Heroes #94 from 1997, that’s the first Simonson Legion. He penciled 2 issues. Issue number 94 and 100. Yes they were both collaborating efforts, but a Legion book nonetheless.

Supergirl deals with a villain named Maxima in her 5th issue. Find Maxima’s first appearance in Action Comics #645 (1989) from another legend George Perez.

…..On the topic of George Perez and legends. George will be appearing alongside Paul Levitz and Alex Saviuk in a Hero’s Initiative event at Tate’s Comics in Lauderhill Florida. InvestComics will go down and bring back some footage for you. Be sure to check that out. Questions for the legends anyone? Don’t be shy….

For more details on this big event, visit Tate’s Comic shop right HERE

Below are the covers of the week! 12 in all, wow pictures!

See you next week.

Invest wisely.
