Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

If you’re a collector seeking new blood in the industry, a reader looking for a new edge of storytelling, then DC has a book for you this week. New Talent Showcase #1 will ‘showcase’ some of DC’s new talent. This comic is definitely worth a look, but that $7.99 price tag may keep some away. Don’t let it deter you too much, it’s not often fans get a comic full of new talent showing off their craft. Maybe one or two or many break out and become a superstar in the industry. Maybe this is their first work. So don’t pass this one shot. DC is probably testing the market here to see if there will be more books like this in the near future. Be sure to make lots of noise at you local comic shop(s) if you want to see more down the road. The last time DC Comics had a New Talent Showcase title was in 1984. Here are some of the names associated with that series as either early work in their career or their first work.
Steve Lightle, June Brigman, Javier Saltares (Early first work; The New Talent Showcase #10 -1984), Norm Breyfogle (Early first work; The New Talent Showcase #11 – 1984), Graham Nolan (Early first work; The New Talent Showcase #14 – 1984).

Check out three DC annuals this week; Batman Annual #1 with writer Tom King and art from David Finch. This annual, as DC Comics puts it, will have a ‘showcase of top talent’ within these pages. We love Batman, we love beginnings (number one issue), love the regular creative team, and we love that there will be a load of other talent in here too. Injustice Gods Among Us Year Five Annual #1. Three separate stories going on in here. One that features fan fav Harley Quinn. She dons the cover too. Superman Annual #1; Written by Peter Tomasi and pencils by Jorge Jimenez. Guest starring the Swamp Thing.

On the coattails of the popular appearance on the Agents of Shield television show, Marvel begins an all new series starring Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider in Ghost Rider #1. We’re really digging the variant covers, but there is a solid reason to buy this comic on Wednesday. The first appearance of a new villain in a backup story. Here’s a quick fact, did you know that no solo Ghost Rider comic has ever reached issue number 100? Maybe this series bucks that trend. We’ll see.

Ivx #1 sets the wheels in motion for the upcoming comic series Inhumans vs. X-Men.
Marvel’s Deadpool Back In Black #4 Ron Lim cover sure is an eye catcher.

Black Mask Comics releases a new comic series and we all know what that means right? In case you’re a new reader or one of the few who do not know, most new Black Mask Comics sell out fairly quick and the aftermarkets love them. So this week fans get No Angel #1. Written by Eric Palicki and art from Ari Syahrazad. A story about a Hannah Gregory as a possible mistaken identity…..being a alien from space. Looks as though she takes matters into her own hands (see cover). The preview book of No Angel #1 is selling for a premium in the aftermarket. Jump on this comic. Invest wisely. Read comics.

Valiant Entertainment introduces a new member into their family this Wednesday. Savage #1 debuts the new character in his self-titled book and we think it’s going to be a warm welcome on new comic book day. With talents like writer B. Clay Moore and art by Clayton Henry and Lewis LaRosa, this comic is a no-brainer to check out. Look for early sellouts and demand bringing multiple printings down the pike.

Mask Mobile Armored Strike #1 from IDW Publishing should satisfy the need for all of the 80’s fans of the original MASK Series. The Paul Pope variant cover is stellar. A 50/1 ratio. The original DC series; MASK #1 debuted in 1985. IDW also debuts a new Transformer series; Optimus Prime #1. Looks as though an introduction may occur. Artist Kei Zama and writer John Barber bring us the action.
Revolution #5 brings everything together for the IDW universe. An important issue if fans want to see the birth of a continuity universe.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 4/16/14

Fifteen number one issues are featured in this week’s article. Some of course with an overload in the variant cover department, but hey no one is forcing anyone to buy them right?

Marvel Comics continues their version of the new 52 with the release of Hulk (2014 2nd Series) #1 and Ultimate Fantastic Four (2014 2nd Series) #1. Not a complete overhaul of their titles, but an abundance of number one issues. Which in reality is completely pointless, but that’s a debate for another time. The new Hulk series will do well, while the new Fantastic Four will border on mediocrity after its first few issues. The Hulk series is accompanied by six variants and FF only has two. See even Marvel knows the deal here. The GET comic in all 8 of these choices is the Mark Bagley Hulk variant. Mark is a stud, Hulk is a stud, CGC is a stud, and a signature from Mark would cap off your $25 variant investment.

[scrollGallery id=346]

Staying on topic with the variants covers, there is a prized variant to try to get your hands on. Superior Spider-Man (2012) #31 will have six variants, but it’s the Midtown Comics color and sketch variants that will fetch some aftermarket love. Be sure to check out InvestComics on Ebay for a chance to bid on those comics if you miss out. Oh yes one more thing. Superior Spider-Man #31 is sold out at the distributor.

Solar Man of the Atom (2014 Dynamite) #1 comes with twelve variants. Stuck in those variants someplace are two Rob Liefeld variants. Neat! Solar Man of the Atom gained huge popularity back in 1991 when the series was under the Valiant banner. These days, most of the characters are seeing resurgence. And if you missed the cool announcement coming out of the Sharp Comics camp, they are releasing limited edition variant connecting covers that include Turok, Solor, and Magnus from “Mr. Valiant” himself Bob Layton. Check out the full press release right HERE.

Batman Eternal (2014) #2 will introduce an old villain that has yet to be introduced in the New 52. Sinestro (2014) #1 will be a great read. His first appearance in Green Lantern #7 (1961) is always a nice book to keep in the collection.

A couple of comic covers this week pay tribute to yesteryear. Bad Ass (2014 Dynamite) #4 borrows from Amazing Spider-Man #129 (1974). Godstorm Hercules Payne (2014) #1 pays homage to Action Comics #1 (1938). It’s nice to see a Zenescope Entertainment Ana_Alexanderbook that doesn’t involve any T&A on its variant cover.

IDW will release Transformers Windblade (2014) #1. Windblade first appeared this year in Transformers: Robots in Disguse #26 (2014). Did you know that the character Sheena is older than Superman? Sheena first appeared in the UK in 1937 and then in the states in 1938. Now in 2014, she appears again courtesy of Moonstone comics; Sheena (2014 Moonstone) #1.

A comic that may fly under the radar this week, but should be blipping on your screen is Porcelain (2014 Red 5) #1. Actress/Model Ana Alexander (Femme Fatales/Bones) is the creator/writer/star of this comic. It involves an assassin and it looks as though it’s done in a modern anime style. Be sure to check out this comic. Oh, in case you’re not too sure who Ana Alexander is, she’s pictured to the right.

Here are the rest of the number one issues to definitely check out this Wednesday. Mercenary Pig #1 from Aazurn Publishing is sold out at the distributor level. Got to love that title!  Translucid (2014) #1, Ghost Wolf (2014 Amigo) #1 (sold out), Time Lincoln Continental (2014) #1, Captain Action Cat (2014) #1, A Piggys Tale (2014) #1 (sold out),  and San Hannibal (2014) #1 (sold out).

See you soon. Invest wisely

Carpe Diem.

CaptainAmerica615InvestComics Comic Hot Picks for 2-23-11

AmazingSpiderMan655InvestComics has a new team member! Sebastian Piccione will be joining the IC team. Sebastian will be a tremendous asset to InvestComics. To learn more about this new team member go here.

A relatively small week as the collecting side is concerned, but we forge ahead. Plenty of very cool reads as always though!

CaptainAmerica615Marvel throws not one, but two “Nothing will ever be the same” comics at us this week. The first is Captain America #615. Aside from Cap dying again (kind of hard to top that!), will readers and collectors be shocked at what happens next? Let’s wait for Wednesday to determine if this comic warrants the “Nothing will ever be the same” tag because boy is that line getting real old. The second claim of a life altering book is Amazing Spider-Man #655. THIS comic may truly live up to its potential of being “the book” of all books for Spidey fans and collectors. Why you ask? Well let’s just copy and paste a quote from Mr. Dan Slott himself from a recent Facebook posting (February 17, 2011):

This issue, ASM #655, is coming out Wednesday (February 23rd), and I know this sounds like hyperbole, but it’s the honest to God truth—out of 20 years in the biz, this is my FAVORITE issue of a comic that I’ve EVER worked on! (Yes, even MORE than the REN & STIMPY: MASTERS OF TIME & SPACE from 1994! :-O No foolin’!)

The script was a blast to write, and our artist, Marcos Martin (in my opinion) pulled out some of the most beautiful artwork in his already stunning career. And if you like Spider-Man, this magilla is like one big, sloppy kiss to the entire 50 years Spider-Man history. That said? Anyone can jump in and read it – it is VERY new reader friendly.

So please, please, please do me a favor and pick this one up 🙂 I’m pulling out the BIG card – the one that can never be pulled out again – “If you buy only ONE of my comics in your life, this is the one!” There. 🙂

So there you have it folks. Dan convinced this collector!

3 Independents to check out at your local comic shop on Wednesday, Mission #1 from Image Comics, 10th Muse Manga Giant Sized from Bluewater, and Savage Beauty #1 from Moonstone.
