Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: We have three CBCS graded comics to check out this week. Power Man and Iron Fist #119 (1985) 9.8. The retelling of Iron Fists’ origin for only $95. Free shipping. John Byrne cover. Nova #1 (1976) 9.0. The first appearance and origin of Marvel’s Nova character. On the cusp of something great in our humble opinion. This 9.0 graded comic is only $99 with free shipping. New Mutants #87 (1990) 8.5. This is the first appearance of Cable. It’s an 8.5 and with a press, maybe bump that grade up? Only $99.

We informed our fans back in January of this year regarding the Marvel character Slapstick. Check that out right here at this LINK. We spoke about all of the Merc For Money characters getting their own solo books before it was ever spoken about from Marvel. We especially hyper-focused on the Slapstick character. We thought and still think there is upside to this goofy Joker/Deadpool misfit character. Maybe even bigger things down the pike for him. This week the new Slapstick #1 will begin his newest journey onward and upward. He first appeared back in 1992’s self titled book Slapstick #1. We said it back in January and we’ll say it again, get his first appearance now. It was literally 75 cents when we mentioned it back 11 months ago. A NM copy ranges around $10 now in some outlets. Well worth it. Buy it now. The new Slapstick #1 Rob Liefeld variant(s) have Deadpool on the cover to make this a must get for variant cover collectors.

Speaking of giving fans a heads up, we helped fans make lots of money (flips) with Darth Vader #3, the first appearance of Doctor Aphra. Marvel continues their female dominate character run with their last(?) solo female book of 2016; Star Wars Doctor Aphra #1. Written by Darth Vader writer Kieron Gillen and art from Kev Walker. The solicit remains a secret as fans will get an in-depth look into the rookie Star Wars player in the Marvel universe. The Doctor is in and the prognosis is a good one.

Titan Comics will go back to well with their hit character Norman. Norman The First Slash #1 will begin a new series regarding the psychotic 9(?) year old boy. The first series sold very well as Norman #1 commanded some nice aftermarket cash before it settled off. If Titan Comics continues the restarts, that will demoralize the value a little bit of the number one issue. They should just have an on-going series and stick with it. That’s our two-cents, but Titan Comics and Norman will be awesome no matter what anyway.
Faith #6 from Valiant Entertainment will introduce fans to a new villain.
Dynamic Entertainment provides fans with a team up of epic proportions. A pairing that had fans screaming, demanding it happen. This Wednesday, because you demanded it, Wonder Woman 77 Meets The Bionic Woman #1. Odd pairing no?

Kevin Eastman of TMNT fame will co-write a new series coming out from Dynamite Entertainment; Cage Hero #1.

Also from Dynamite, James Bond fans will have something to celebrate besides the movie coming to a theater near you. A new comic; James Bond #1. The last variant count we have is up to 10, so plenty of pointless variants to choose from. We’d love to say to get your paws on the Jock variant, but we’re very unimpressed with the cover. Eye candy is nil.

Shane Davis’ Axcend #2, now that’s an impressive variant. And a cool comic too!

If you’re a person that follows the political landscape and you love demons, then Citizen Jack #1 (Image) is for you. Check out this crazy off-beat comic from writer Sam Humphries and artist Tommy Patterson.

There are a few reasons why to love Monstress #1 from Image Comics. First and foremost, it’s written by the talented Marjorie Liu. Second, it’s drawn by X-23 artist Sana Takeda. Third, it’s a new ongoing series, and fourth, it contains 66 (yes 66) pages of comic story with no interruptions. All for a $4.99 price point. There are currently none of these comics available on Ebay right now.

Paper Girls #2 will follow up Brian K Vaughan’s hit debut issue.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

A gorgeous variant cover from Gabriele Dell Otto this week; Amazing Spider-Man (Vol 4) #3. Onward to volume five starring Deadpool in Deadpool (Vol 5) #1. Another relaunch within the new Marvel Universe. It is Deadpool though, so expect early price gauging on some of the variants, then back to reality. Lots of variants to choose from here.

Fans of the WWE will recognize the writer’s name in Drax #1. None other than CM Punk. He’s already done some work over at DC Comics (which we’ve covered), but this is the first time he’s doing creative work for Marvel Comics. The Ed McGuinness UFC cage variant would be a nice comic to get signed/graded if you’re a CM Punk fan. Thing is about the UFC gig, Punk announced he would be headed towards the UFC for some real deal fighting a long time ago (earlier this year?). Everyone is still waiting. That all said, a Drax solo comic should be a fun deal.

A new Hercules (Vol 4) #1 from Marvel arrives this Wednesday. The best of all volumes in the Marvel Universe came in 1982’s Hercules #1. The entire comic practically, creatively, was done by the awesome Bob Layton. It was a great four issue mini-series. In 2015, writer Dan Abnett and artist Luke Ross take a crack at it.

The biggest comic in all the land this week will be……brace yourself…..ready…..Howard The Duck (Vol 5) #1. I cannot believe I just typed that! And no we’re not drinking the Kool-Aid that some others may serve up. The mention of this comics has nothing to do pertaining to the character in this title. Simply because the latest craze in all the land; Gwenpool. And yes InvestComics gave speculators a heads up on her first appearance. (we’re awesome like that). Gwenpool will grace a variant cover and guess what? It’s sold out already! No surprise there. So the question here is not whether this will be a Scooby Doo #12 (which InvestComics did not talk about. Completed listings not sold on Ebay recently at $16.95/$14.95/$6.00) or a comic to buy and sell for a possible nice sum of money to buy a couple of weeks worth of your pull list. The answer is the latter. And here’s something for anyone really pushing the Howard The Duck character too. If you visit InvestComics on a regular basis, you will remember the Howard The Duck speculator clinic we put forth in March of this year. Remember, InvestComics is always in a business oriented mindset first and foremost when speaking about money for the speculator. We are looking out for your best interest. No fanboy stuff here, go elsewhere for that. So we are going to copy and paste the idea we put forth of why we think Howard The Duck will not come to fruition anytime soon on television or the movies.

..…..The Howard book will be a fun read though, so get it for at least that reason! Both are cool. So don’t get all hurt that I’m not that high on the Howard book. Speculation = opinion. Not that owning the Fear #19 (1976) book (first appearance of Howard the Duck) is a bad thing, but if you’re in the market to buy a good first appearance for $250 or $500 dollars, there are other books to seriously consider. Ask yourself this. Would Disney really want to jeopardize/replace the lure of Donald Duck with a wise cracking, cigar smoking duck? I highly doubt they want to throw Howard in our faces as the duck to really remember and constantly have questions from children to adults saying, “Is that Donald Duck?”. Um no. Disney would not want this. Why do you think there is no real talk about a cartoon or a movie pertaining to Howard? For this reason. Too close to Donald. Maybe someday Disney will bite the bullet and release a Howard cartoon or movie, but as for right now it’s not happening. Maybe a Howard the Duck comic book is a feeler to see what sort of attention it gets? Then maybe we’ll get some real news of something? This speculator doesn’t think we’ll see anything for some time. The Donald lure is way more important to Disney right now than destroying the very fabric of Disneyland or anything pertaining to Donald with people constantly mistaking Donald for Howard. Bycomparison, will we ever see a nasty mouse character created within the Marvel U that looks very similar to the Big Mouse with an attitude and possible cigar? The short answer is no. Howard will stay where he is right now and Disney is very content with that.

So there you have it. Lets recap shall we? Buy the Howard/Gwenpool variant this Wednesday, think about spending your $250-$500 elsewhere instead of his first appearance. Simple enough.

It’s just a matter of time before we see Nova appear in a movie or get his own thing going right? The Nova comics have always been entertaining, Nova (Vol 6) #1 will not disappoint.

A new Star Wars comic; Star Wars #11. An awesome Stuart Immonen cover here. We turned the comic horizontally so fans can really see it in its full glory. As always, any and all Star Wars comics; always a buy here at InvestComics.
A lot of creators from the comic industry contribute to Uncanny X-Men #600. Comic fans will want to thumb through this to see if their favorite creator contributed.
The new Vision (Vol 2) #1 looks very interesting. A definite pick up. A possible sleeper here. Take a look at that Ryan Sook variant as well, sweet.

451 Media Group seem to have a new hot book almost every week now. ExMortis #1 is sold out. Would you believe us if we told you that there will be a Santa Claus Year One type comic coming this week? How about if we told you that Grant Morrison will write it? Okay so this is Boom Studios’ premise to their new Klaus #1 comic. All set to a viking theme of course. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Others to check out; Hangman #1 (Dark Circle). Exodus Life After #1 (Oni Press). And just in time for Halloween, a story (sold out) from Space Goat Productions; Forty Coffins #1. Johnny Red #1 (Titans Comics) Garth Ennis writes. Another possible sleeper this week to watch out for; Niobe She Is Life #1 from Stranger Comics.

The Secret Avengers #1 debuts this week with much fanfare. The Secret Avengers line up as we know right now consists of Moon Knight, Black Widow, The Irredeemable Ant-Man, Nova, War Machine, Valkyrie, Sharon Carter, Steve Rogers and Beast. So let’s have a little fun (as Bob Ross would say) and take a look at the debut of these characters in the Marvel universe. The big dog Steve captainamericacomics1_1_jackkirby_joesimon_941_250k.gifxmen1_1963_jackkirby_25k.gifRogers we all know debuted in Captain America Comics #1 in 1941. Legends Jack Kirby and Joe Simon were the ones responsible for delivering one of the most coveted comics of all time. This comic could be obtained in the 175K to 225k range. Look for this comic to explode once Captain America debuts on film. This comic is an absolute gem to own if you could afford one. The first look at Beast came in Uncanny X-Men #1 (1963). Once again Jack Kirby had his paws all over this one too. Get this comic at around 25K – 30K.This comic is a beautiful gem here as well, although the Captain America werewolfbynight32_1stmoonknight_1975_125.gifnova1_1976_johnbuscema_marvwolfman_firstnova_30.gifComics #1 issue being the better of the 2. Moon Knight, one of the most underrated Marvel characters in the Marvel Universe showed off his white cape for the first time in Werewolf by Night #32 (1975). Find this comic for $125 or less and you own the potential of a big first appearance of a character that could explode one day. There is no risk factor to purchasing this comic, it has been steadily increasing or lying flat at times year by year and will continue to do so and is a great comic to own at this price. Nova debuted in his self titled comic back in 1976 and with all of the hype, sales and madness going on in the Marvel Cosmic Universe these days and Nova being right in the thick of it, Nova #1 (John Buscema and Marv Wolfman) for $40?? It’s insane not to have this comic in your collection. The Irredeemable Ant-Man (2006) showed up in his self titled comic as well. This issue was brought to you by creators Robert Kirkman and Phil Hester. It can be found at your local comic shop for cover price or $5. So what theavengers83_1970_1stvalkyrie_roythomas_johnbuscema_100.gifironman281_1stwarmachine.gifare you waiting for? …Someone to read this and buy it before you?? Valkyrie broke onto the scene in 1970, debuting in The Avengers #83. The comic sells in the $85 – $100 range. Not too sure where or what will become of Valkyrie though. The Avengers #83 falls into the risk category. A second rate character that doesn’t show that much upside. On the other hand, War Machine has always showed some upside though. He seems not to be utilized in a way that Marvel fans are attracted to. Not quite sure what is up with that. War Machine has a great back story, is related to the Iron Man family books, kicks butt, and looks totally cool, so what’s the problem here? War Machine’s first appearance is in Iron Man #281 (1992) and prices for just $4. The problem here is an oblivious tos75_1966_1stsharoncarter_agent13_125.giftos52_1964_1stblackwidow_1000_1500.gifone. Back in 1992, Marvel was overprinting, just like mostly everyone else and thus making this issue a very accessible one, thus driving the price down. Simple case of supply over meeting demand. Black Widow is one of the only 2 women in Secret Avengers. You could roll back to a few weeks ago to Hot Picks 4-28-10 (Iron Man Hot Picks Special) and see some coverage of the Black Widow there. Tales of Suspense #52 (1964) comes in at the $1000-$1500 range. Here again, the Black Widow falls into the puzzlement of why is it that this character just doesn’t “hit”? A very pricey buy at $1000 and a better Black Widow buy would be the Amazing Spider-Man #86 (1970) for $200. Why you ask? Well go to the Hot Picks from 4-28-10 and find out! Sharon Carter is the last of our covered Secret Avengers. amsm_86_1970_johnromitasr_200.gifcaptainamerica606.gifTales of Suspense #75 (1966) comes in at about $125. Jackson “Butch” Guice will be penciling Captain America #606. He’s an awesome talent and fans can’t wait for this veteran to show his Guice like style on Cap. If you want to find the first time Butch ever drew Captain America, you’d have to go into the back issue bins and pull out The Avengers annual #12 from 1983! The annual sports a great cover from Al Milgrom. $4 should make you a proud owner of the first Guice Captain America. How about Dazzler coming out with her number one issue? Who would have thought this? With names like Byrne, Austin, Claremont and Romita Jr. comes The Uncanny X-Men #130 (1980), which happens to be Dazzler’s first appearance. Look at those skates! Anyway, this issue will set you back about $55. A price tag that goes deep into the wallet for a first appearance of a third rate character, but theavengersannual12_1983_jacksonbutchguice.gifuncannyxmen130.giflet’s face it folks, you’re really paying for the 4 creator names just mentioned. If Lindsey Lohan could get her act together, she will probably be in the starring role in the Dazzler movie if there is one ever made. This will drive the comic collector’s interest thus making this book climb a bit faster, but for now the names associated with this comic as well as a first appearance makes it a nice slow progressive moving issue. Now with the above just mentioned, go exactly ONE issue prior to Uncanny X-Men #129(1980) and that brings us to X-Men Origins: Emma Frost #1 coming out this week. The SAME creative team brings the first appearance of Emma Frost in issue 129. This time, look to spend a bit more here, around $65-75. Why more money you ask? It’s only Emma Frost. Well this issue carries the first appearance of Kitty Pryde as well, so essentially you’re getting a uncannyxmen129_1980_80_1stkittyandemma.gifdazzler1_2010.giftwofer. Unlike issue 130 though, you’ll get more bang for the buck with this issue. So if Pamela Anderson was 20 years younger and could act, maybe she would be Emma Frost in the feature film? Lindsey and Pamela in a team up movie, Dazzler & Emma, wow wouldn’t that be lovely??

Staying with the pairing idea here, don’t forget to check out the debut of 2 new creators in one book! DC’s Teen Titans #83 introduces Rex Ogle and Ted Naifeh. DC bringing in new blood, always great to see the talent “before” they get real famous!
