The Smurfs: Coming to a Theater Near You

The Smurfs will be headed to theaters this holiday season, and this is what they will look like!

In 1958, Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, known as Peyo, created "Les Schtroumpfs," which we in the States knew at "The Smurfs."  They were a licensing phenomenon, and had their own Saturday morning cartoon show that ran for most of the 80’s.  And if there’s anything that’s big in Hollywood these days, it’s nostalgia for 80’s cartoon properties.

Thus, on the heels of a combination 3D animated/live-action "Alvin & The Chipmunks" feature film from 20th Century Fox (whose squeakuel recently enjoyed a run in theaters) came the announcement from Columbia and Sony Pictures that The Smurfs would undergo their own transition to the big screen.

Well, here’s your first look what a CGI Smurf may look like, courtesy of the fine folks at Coming Soon
