This Week’s NEW Comic Covers: Double D’s and MORE!
This week’s collection of comic book covers doesn’t just stand out—they stomp all over subtlety. It’s a lineup that thrives on extremes, whether it’s Superman’s angry glare from inside a shattered bookstore window, a rooftop full of brooding Spider-Men, or Thor looking like he skipped the Asgardian diplomacy summit for arm day. There are 14 total covers worth eyeballing this New Comic Book Day, and a few books show off more than one take—because when your lead character punches holes through dimensions or lectures people about recycling, you might as well celebrate it with more than one flavor of art. Let’s break down the best covers this week, grouped by comic and curated for collectors who enjoy art with attitude.
Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #1 gets dual spotlight treatment this week. Kael Ngu unleashes Spot, the villain with more holes than a plot twist. The color scheme—black, red, and gray over stark white—gives it an almost graphic design sensibility. Clean, bold, and completely chaotic. Then Kaare Andrews goes full cinematic ’90s drama with three Spider-Men perched like they’re about to star in the world’s most dangerous album cover. The backdrop? A noir-heavy, black and orange sky. Yes, it’s moody. And yes, it works. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong II #1 from Kevin Maguire is a scale check we didn’t know we needed. Superman floats, a tiny Superman, while Godzilla’s glowing eyes and partially open mouth loom in a frame-filling close-up. If the message isn’t clear, it’s this: Superman might be brave, but Godzilla doesn’t care. Daredevil #22 by Jorge Fornes forces your eyes to work for it. Two big blocky D’s filled with negative space contain Matt Murdock’s screaming face, but you’ll have to let your brain do some decoding to fully see it. It’s clever, it’s layered, and it may just cause momentary vision loss, which seems appropriate for Daredevil. Predator vs. Spider-Man #1 2nd print by Ryan Brown captures the face-off no one knew they needed but absolutely wanted. With only their heads shown, Spidey and the Predator press foreheads like two exhausted fighters before the final round. It’s part mind game, part poster-ready moment.

Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Grimm Tales of Terror #5 by Michael Dooney keeps the tradition alive of covers that make you question comic book physics. Robyn is leaning on a steel gurney with a sultry pose that’s one poorly timed fight scene away from a wardrobe malfunction. But let’s be honest, no one’s here for practicality. Imperial #1 by Marco Checchetto proves that less really can be more. The top third shows the team in a classic heroic stance, but it’s the sea of red beneath—with Nova’s yellow helmet in debris—that really catches your eye. A strong hint that Nova fans may want to brace for impact. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto #4 by Jorge Jimenez delivers exactly what the title promises and then some. Naruto’s vibrant orange outfit slices through the grayscale tones of the TMNT lineup behind him, all while Shredder is caught mid-action. This one’s a full-blown crossover brawl frozen in time. Immortal Thor #24 from Fabrizio De Tommaso skips subtlety entirely. This close-up of Thor holding both Mjölnir and Stormbreaker puts more focus on his bulging right bicep than on any actual plot. His teeth are clenched, lighting is crackling off his back, and he clearly has no interest in diplomatic solutions.

The Secret Six #4 from Laura Braga goes with the always-reliable “ensemble in circles” format, but centers on one character who clearly didn’t come here to play nice. She’s posing like she’s ready to end someone’s story arc—with her hand on her hip and a confident look that says “I’m the reason the rest of you get panel time.” Captain Planet #2 from Ben Oliver wants to remind you that this eco-warrior isn’t just cartoon nostalgia anymore. A hyper-realistic close-up of Captain Planet’s face makes it look like he’s ready for a gritty reboot on a prestige streaming platform. You almost expect him to say “The power is mine” in a gravelly voice and then punch a pipeline. Absolute Superman #8 delivers three wildly different but equally intense takes this week. Brandon Peterson captures the new Superman in mid-pose, floating with grace but radiating that dangerous calm you only see before things go sideways. The sunlight breaking through the clouds behind him gives it a biblical touch. Meanwhile, Clayton Crain veers into cosmic minimalism. His version shows Superman surrounded by the blackness of space, stars dotting the darkness as Superman seems to descend with his gaze locked downward. It’s calm until you realize someone’s about to get wrecked. Then Rafa Sandoval turns up the heat—literally—with glowing red eyes staring through shattered glass at the Smallville Bookstore. With two allies behind him and an expression that screams “I am not in the mood,” this one leans into full-blown intimidation.
