Venom vs. Knull: The Epic Clash of Symbiotes and the Rise of the God of Darkness

Venom’s first encounter with Knull, the God of Symbiotes, took place in Venom #3 (2018), written by Donny Cates with art by Ryan Stegman. This pivotal moment marks the introduction of Knull as the malevolent force behind the creation of symbiotes, including Venom. Venom #3 is Knull’s official first appearance, a key issue for collectors. During this encounter, Eddie Brock, bonded with the Venom symbiote, learns about Knull’s ancient reign and his intentions to reclaim control over his lost symbiote creations.

Following this, Knull’s influence grows in Venom #4, where his backstory is further explored, linking his dark legacy to the All-Black the Necrosword, the weapon first seen in Thor: God of Thunder #6 (2013), wielded by Gorr the God Butcher. This connection is crucial as it solidifies Knull’s long-standing impact on the Marvel Universe.

One of the most notable storylines featuring Knull is the King in Black event, where Knull descends upon Earth, unleashing his army of symbiote dragons in a bid to drown the planet in darkness. Throughout the storyline, Knull possesses Celestials and even defeats powerful heroes like the Sentry. Ultimately, he faces off against Eddie Brock in King in Black #5, where Eddie, with the help of the cosmic Enigma Force, temporarily becomes the God of Light to defeat Knull.
