This week’s Hot Comic Picks bring multiversal mayhem, surprise returns, and some of the strangest team-ups we’ve seen yet. Deadpool causes more chaos, Silver Surfer meets a deadly end, and Spider-Girl steps up. From Marvel legacy launches to gritty DC arcs and indie firepower, these comics demand collector attention.

Starting with a cosmic gut-punch, Death of the Silver Surfer #1 delivers exactly what it promises—a swan song for Norrin Radd, if the universe has its way. Writer Greg Pak, known for taking characters through emotional meat grinders (Planet Hulk, anyone?), teams with artist Sumit Kumar for a galactic tale that isn’t just about one hero’s end but the rebirth of what might come next. Galactus looms, the Fantastic Four show up, and someone’s gunning for the Power Cosmic. It’s big, it’s tragic, and it’s definitely a book to watch for speculative sparks. Now let’s talk disaster: Deadpool Wolverine #6 continues its trend of ultra-violence wrapped in absurdity. Wolverine and Stryfe are trying to make the world end on schedule, but Nick Fury Sr. says not today. Meanwhile, Deadpool has a plan. Of course he does. The kind that ensures things absolutely, positively will get worse before they maybe get slightly better. If any part of that triangle survives this issue, we’ll be shocked. Giant-Size Amazing Spider-Man #1 is triple-stacked chaos. Kevin Smith makes his Marvel return with a Spidey tale that manages to be heart-wrenching and hilarious. That’s followed by an Al Ewing and Mark Buckingham decade-hopping epic, and then the kicker: Chip Zdarsky and CAFU introduce a new character who’s apparently going to matter. A lot. This book is a collector must if you want to be ahead of the next wave. Spider-Girl #1 spins directly out of Spider-Boy and yes, she’s trying to do the whole “hero thing” solo now. Unfortunately, she’s got Vermin problems, and apparently a bigger nemesis is watching her every move. With Bullseye already having betrayed her, the kid can’t catch a break. Expect surprise appearances, rising stakes, and possibly another future key issue. New Avengers #1 is not your dad’s Avengers. Carnage, Clea, Namor, Hulk, and Wolverine all in one book? Yes, and no, it’s not a nightmare—it’s Bucky Barnes and Black Widow trying to stop deranged Illuminati clones. This lineup is dripping with potential, danger, and chaos. That makes it a prime pick for speculators and anyone who loves their superhero books a little unhinged. Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #3 There’s chaotic Deadpool energy… and then there’s gamma-irradiated Deadpool energy. In this third issue of the increasingly unhinged saga, Wade Wilson sets his lethal sights on none other than the Red Hulk. That’s right—Deadpool’s next target is a walking nuclear tantrum with the tactical brains of General Ross and the firepower to vaporize cities. Naturally, Wade’s solution? Go gamma himself. Why not? And since that’s not enough madness for one comic, Deadpool drags the Dark X-Men into the mix. Because nothing says “clean, surgical assassination” like a team of emotionally compromised, shadow-dwelling mutants who already live in a moral gray zone. What exactly is he taking from them? What sort of power, intel, or dangerous weapon is he willing to steal—or borrow—with a wink? This series has already gone full-throttle on the meta-carnage, but with this issue, the stakes go nuclear—literally. The Red Hulk isn’t just another notch on Deadpool’s katana. He’s the kind of target that usually ends the story, not gets inserted halfway through. For collectors, this one feels like a key turning point in the miniseries, especially with the Dark X-Men tie-in elements. Keep an eye on where this issue leads and who (or what) Wade decides to kill next… or use. Either way, it’s not going to be pretty.

Robin & Batman Jason Todd #1
drops us into Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s flashback lens on Gotham. This isn’t the wise-cracking Robin era. This is Jason Todd, raw, angry, and probably one bad decision from disaster. A new villain zeroes in on him while Bruce questions whether he can control what’s already out of control. Psychological tension, vintage Gotham crime atmosphere, and early canon insights—a killer combo.
If you want weird, Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1 has you covered. Kamala Khan is time-hopping with Legion and winds up teaming with Jean Grey in the darkest part of her history. There’s also a backup story about Scott and Jean that’ll no doubt lead to Reddit theories. A mutant cult, Phoenix fire, and the timeline itself being on fire—this one checks all the speculative boxes. Marvel Rivals Ignite #1 is part showcase, part insanity, and all visually wild. You get Peni Parker clashing with Punisher, Luna Snow in Hel, and Sai fighting a symbiote. Designed by Peach Momoko, these costume transformations and character pairings are practically made for variant collectors. And speaking of timely drops, Marvel United A Pride Special #1 is a dense, emotional anthology with creative muscle from Al Ewing and Anthony Oliveira. Captain America of the Railways takes on Hate-Monger, and the stories pack more punch than you’d expect. If Marvel books with real-world commentary are your thing, or if you’re looking for rising writer names, this is a pickup. Trinity Daughter of Wonder Woman #1 gives breakout star Lizzie a miniseries of her own. Written by Tom King with art by Belen Ortega, this timey-wimey mess has her trying to find her father with the Super Sons in tow, and there are… corgis involved? Of course there are. Crisis of Infinite Corgis is not a joke. This character already gained traction in her backup appearances, and this is her full spotlight.

Over in Midvale, Supergirl #2 gives us a secret origin for Lesla Lar, a name you’ll want to remember. While she figures out how to go from Kandor nerd to evil bombshell, Supergirl has a big problem named Titano. She might need Lena Luthor to help out. That’s right, House of El meets House of Luthor. The setup alone makes this issue worthy of speculation. The Runaways #1 relaunch sees Rainbow Rowell and Elena Casagrande bringing Marvel’s favorite misfit family back together… or at least what’s left of it. Gert is trying to keep the lights on, Nico is broken, and Doctor Doom wants Doombot back. Which is, of course, a problem. Emotional, funny, and probably overlooked by mainstream collectors—until it isn’t. Ultimate X-Men #16 continues its descent into cult horror. Hisako’s darkness spreads, and springtime in Hi No Kuni starts to feel more like an apocalypse. This is a sleeper run for future collectors who want in before it explodes. Absolute Batman #9 shifts from Arkham into something even more twisted: Ark M, a new “treatment center” that has helped cultivate some of Gotham’s worst nightmares. Bruce goes undercover, Bane returns, and Alfred’s past comes roaring back with a new villain from his own era. Heavy psychological themes, plus Bane? Yes, this one will matter. Finally, Gehenna Naked Aggression #1 from Image Comics might be the indie hit of the week. A hit contract passed around criminal syndicates like a bad loan? Gehenna’s tired of running and ready to end it. The art is gritty, the pacing is relentless, and if you like Gun Honey or Elektra: Assassin, this one’s tailor-made for you.
