Last week was a fantastic time to pick up those back issues to build up your portfolio. This week it seems would be a great time to do so again. A limited amount of books covered this week means more time to sift through those long boxes.

A quick shout out goes to @GQComics for giving InvestComics a heads up to one of their Hot Picks Todd The Ugliest Kid, completely missing the story on Adult Swim putting Todd into development for a possible series. @GQComics asked if it would be wise to sell at this time. The answer is no, not just yet. The news is still too fresh to be dumping anything. If the comic falls into “development hell” and never sees the light of day, well then it truly is up to the speculator to make that call as early as possible to dump. That said like mentioned already, it’s just too early to dump. Be sure to track the progress, keep the ear to the ground here because the $50 comic can easily fall back to earth if you delay too long. So another Hot Pick finds its way to everyone’s bank account. Sure does put the non-collectors (non-believers) in check doesn’t it? Again, special thanks again to @GQComics for the heads up; make sure to follow GQ on Twitter.

Tom Strong finds his way back into the DC Universe/Vertigo line. Tom Strong and the Planet of Peril (2013 DC/Vertigo) #1 will find Tom Strong in a rough spot to start off his series. The original Tom Strong first appeared in 1999’s Tom Strong #1 under DC’s America’s Best Comic label. The series was written by one of the most enigmatic writers of our time, Alan Moore. The original series lasted only 36 issues. Mr. Moore bowed out by issue number 22, leaving the series to some of the most talented writers in the industry today. Names like Vaughan, Brubaker, and Casey. Even they couldn’t save the series from its ultimate demise. Alan Moore would return for the series finale in issue #36. The number one issue should be sitting in some one dollar bin at your local shop or convention. Not a hard book to find at all.

A few number one issues are coming our way this week with two standouts, the first being Captain Midnight (2013 Dark Horse) #1 and Skyward (2013 Action Lab) #1. Call this a gut speculation here, Interesting plot lines from two very good publishers. A recipe for possible good things to come! Another interesting book to check out is Collider (2013 DC/Vertigo) #1. This might be a sleeper. More government plots here, but these stories seem to be the “go to” these days. 3 Guns (2013 Boom) #1 will continue where the Denzel/Walberg movie 2 Guns left off. Great sequel name! How original!

Marvel feeds readers more Wolverine (coincidence with the movie debuting this week? Think not.). Wolverine In The Flesh (2013) #1 brings a tale with a Top Chef involved. Um, okay.

(Insert sarcasm here) Hey guess what else we get from Marvel this week?! A new status quo issue! Wow! Fearless Defenders (2013) #7 will “change things!” Thank goodness for that nice cover from Mark Brooks or no one would care. Was that thought said out loud?

A latest contest announcement will be coming in the InvestComics newsletter, so be sure to sign up for that to be the first to find out!
