Vet Tix: Eddie Rausch

Vet_TixWho and what  is Vet Tix? Their Mission:

Giving Something to Those Who Gave.

Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) provides FREE event tickets to family members of troops Killed In Action (K.I.A.), our Military and Veterans to sporting events, concerts, performing arts and family activities. Attending these events reduces stress through entertainment, strengthens family bonds, builds life long memories and encourages service members to stay engaged with American life and local communities. Giving free event tickets is an expression of appreciation, acknowledgement and an enduring symbol that we, as a nation, honor the service of our troops today and long after their tour of duty has passed. Helping our veterans attend events provides positive family and life experiences after their years of service to our country.

….And with that, a one on one chat with the COO of Vet Tix, Mr. Eddie Rausch. (Please note: Click on any of the covers in this article to see a full image)

Jay Katz: Thank you so much for stopping by Eddie. With great humility Eddie, I want to tell you that InvestComics supports Vet Tix and your cause with great respect.

Eddie Rausch: Thank you for the kind words Jay. Vet Tix appreciates the support you and InvestComics provides our mission.

JK: Why did you decide to start Vet Tix? What compelled you to begin such a tremendous project?

ER: It all started at the 2008 Super Bowl. Two of our other Founders were attending (one U.S. Navy Veteran and the other USMC Veteran) and had a buddy that was part of the pre-game color guard. They learned that once the pre-game ended the color guard were not able to stay and watch the Super Bowl…they were escorted out of the stadium. The entire game the seat next to them sat empty. This seat, this ticket could have been donated so that one of the members of the color guard could have enjoyed the game. The idea was born right there. As soon as I was asked my thoughts about it a day later I was “IN”…thought it was an amazing idea. We have been moving full speed ahead ever since.

JK: Who has come on board to contribute to Vet Tix so far?

ER: If you asking about sports teams then pretty much all of MLB with the exception of 2 teams. Each year we partner with more and more Universities and Bowl Games…last season we distributed tickets to 26 Bowl Games including Fiesta Bowl, Sugar, Bowl, Orange Bowl, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowl. The list really goes on and on including other sports (NBA, NHL, MLS, Minor League Baseball), concerts such as Kenny Chesney, George Strait and a number of music festivals, family events like Disney on Ice and Ringling Brothers, to Broadway plays and even seasonal events like haunted houses and the Polar Express train. If there is a ticket to an event we will accept it and get it distributed to our veterans for use with their families. Later this month we will hit ticket number One Million!!

Lady Death Vet Tix Blank CoverJK: Recently many comic book fans learned about comic book artist Brian Pulido teaming up with Vet Tix. How will Brian contribute?

ER: Brian is absolutely awesome in his support of Vet Tix! Lady Death is his baby…in all reality she is his daughter and he has allowed Vet Tix to be a special part of her 20th Anniversary. He has given Vet Tix permission to reprint issue #1, the one that started it all, and put a blank cover on it stating this is the “Vet Tix Edition” with our logo on the rear cover. We are now working off of a list put together by Brian and myself to secure artists that will create their vision of Lady Death on these 50 covers.

JK: Which creators have come on board so far? Can you share any covers yet or are they still a work in progress?

ER: We have a great list going with more to come…names like Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, Brandon Peterson, Frank Cho, Leinil Frances Yu, Jay Anacleto, Philip Tan, Carlo Pagulayan, Clayton Crain, Kenneth Rocafort, Arthur Adams, Ivan Reis, Humberto Ramos, Mark Brooks, Agnes Garbowska, Billy Tucci, Tim Vigil and Peter Steigerwald. We also have some great new artists that are really turning in some amazing work as well. Artists like Sajad Shah, Dawn McTeigue, Siya Oum, Mike Krome, Jesse Winchman, Jenevieve Broomall, Jaime Tyndall, Mike DeBalfo, Jonathan Marks, Jason Metcalf, Conny Valentina, Sarah Giardina, Alan Quah, Thony Silas and Rian Gonzales. I do not evny the fans that will need to choose between all of these covers…they truly are incredible!!

JK: Brian Pulido is an extremely approachable creator. Any fan that visits a convention knows this. He’s a tremendous talent. What was Brian’s initial response when you approached him regarding a possible project for Vet Tix?

ER: I have known Brian for some time now and for the past few years he has reached out to me/Vet Tix to see how he could support. He has donated back issues to be shipped to our deployed troops and he has started a “Tip Jar” at his table. He will sign all the books a fan wants all he asks is that they donate to the tip jar. These funds at each convention will go to either Vet Tix or Heroes Initiative.

Leinil Francis YuWhen this idea for a blank cover project came up he thought it was perfect timing to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Lady Death and loved the idea. As much as this is an AMAZING way for Vet Tix to raise funds and grant “Hero’s Wishes” I think Brian also enjoys seeing how each artist sees his character. Who knows, maybe we will see more Lady Death from some of these artists now that they have had a chance to draw her and Brian has seen what they can do!

JK: Okay so all 50 comics will be CGC Signature Series graded. Besides being completely awesome, how did you get CGC on board too?

ER: Things just seem to fall in place with CGC. One of our followers on the Facebook event page has a connection high up with CGC. He reached out to me and suggested I call this contact. I did, explained the project and it was a done deal. I was told to send all the completed covers in at once and to mark them to HIS attention and CGC would make certain this books would be made a priority in turn around time. It helps to have fans that also believe in your mission!!

JK: Where can collectors bid on the CGC Lady Death Artist Project once they are done?

ER: Vet Tix has an eBay seller’s account. We have gone through the process of being vetted by them so we can auction the items and any fees that would normally be charged are returned to us due to our status as a 501c3 non profit organization. I would suggest anyone interested add “vet-tix” to their favorite sellers list.

They may also join the event page on Facebook, search Lady Death Artist Project benefiting Vet Tix – Hero’s Wish. On this event page we will post work in progress pics, completed cover pics and add the live links to the eBay auction for each and every cover!

Jay AnacletoJK: Do you have any other creator projects after Brian Pulido’s Lady Death Project that you can tell us about?

ER: WE do!! On the heels of the Lady Death project we will also be doing a similar blank cover project with Billy Tucci for the 20th Anniversary of “Shi, Way of the Warrior”. Our goal is to be able to collect these completed covers and display at either Baltimore or New York Comic Con this fall. There is also an event page on Facebook for this project.

Clayton CrainJK: Are you a comic book collector??

ER: I did collect comics for a number of years, have long box after long box in my collection. I still do a little now, trying to put together a run of Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men 1-100 together, but in 2008 things changed for me when Michael turner passed away from his long battle with cancer. I realized I collected the comic books for the art and began collecting Original Art from those artist I admire.

JK: Please tell everyone where they can go to make a donation, contribute, or become part of the cause.

ER: It is simple, go to www.VetTix.org. Here you can donate tickets and/or money, become verified in our system if you have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or if you are primary next of kin to killed in action and begin making use of the service we provide.

JK: Thank you so much for your time Eddie. Your foundation is an amazing tribute to the men and women who serve this great country of ours. It was an honor. Thank you.

ER: Thank you Jay. What we do here at Vet Tix is a true pleasure and an HONOR. Not many people get to do what they love on a day to day basis but I can tell you the staff here at Vet Tix absolutely loves being able to create opportunities for our veterans to make memories with their families that will last a lifetime. Some of my strongest memories from my childhood are from going to baseball games with my father when he was on leave from his service in Vietnam and I want to be able to give Jenevieve BroomallMike Krome

If you are a regular InvestComics monthly newsletter subscriber you found out before everyone else about the very cool things in store for you the fan. Pictured above are the cool giveaways (and one special auction) that will be happening for the next few months. Included in the awesome bunch is the InvestComics One & Done Anthology signed right on the cover by some of the industry’s best. This Anthology which rose over $250 so far for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund will be auctioned off on Ebay with the proceeds going to the CBLDF. Hang tight for that auction (Lots of giveaway contest beforehand). The auction announcement will be splashed all over the InvestComics landscape, so you won’t miss it when it does happen. So who did exactly sign that cover you ask? How about Dan Parent, Chuck Dixon, Billy Tucci, Neal Adams, Alex Saviuk, Nelson Ortega, Terry Cronin, Ethan Van Sciver, Georges Jeanty, Adam Hughes, Rob Hunter, Jim Cheung, Gail Simone, Bob Layton, Whilce Portacio, Rick Osman, Frank Tieri, Bob McLeod, Jimmy Palimotti, Chris Claremont, Mark Bagley, Frank Cho, Amanda Conner, George Perez, and Paul Pelletier. And to top off the list, I (Jay Katz) will sign the inside. That’s quite the list there isn’t it?? As for the other comics shown; New Excalibur #1 signed by the Legend himself Chris Claremont, Villains United #1 signed by Gail Simone (Interview on InvestComics Youtube coming!), Tales of the Teen Titans #44 signed by the Legend George Perez, Nightwing Target #1 signed by Chuck Dixon, Freelancers #3 signed by Eric Esquivel (Interview on InvestComics Youtube now! Yes lots to take in, but be sure to enter these contests to win.

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=238]

Okay Hot Picks time. There are certainties in life. The character Thanos is one such case. So is the fact that last Sunday InvestComics informed you guys/gals that East of West #1 is a not to miss book. Yes, listen to the Broker when he tells you about the certainties in the collectors market. It’ll do your wallet some good. So getting back to Thanos now, if you ever doubted anything in the speculation market, this one would not be the one to doubt. If you don’t own or are thinking about owning Iron Man #55, stop thinking and do it. I cannot stress enough how much Thanos is going to make an impact on the movie side of things. The best comparison to make here is actually quite simple. Thanos will be the modern day Darth Vader. I have said this before and I will keep saying it. Thanos’ impact in the theaters will directly impact the back issue market. This said, this week Thanos Rising (2013) #1 will be altering the Marvel Universe as we know it. Yes that villain Thanos is going to bring it and you better be ready. This dude is a bad ass.

…..More certainties this week; Harbinger Wars (2013) #1. This comic will be a quick sell out, so you better grab one off the shelf before they disappear.

Superior Spider-Man (2012) #7 will see the return of Cardiac. The first appearance of Cardiac came in Amazing Spider-Man #342. Want to feel old? This comic was penciled by Erik Larsen 23 years ago!! 1990….23 years ago!! Wow.

DC Comics celebrates with a special issue of Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #19. “Mystery of the 900!” Umm, okay.

….More certainties this week; Regular Show #1. This book will be harder to find than any other in the aftermarket for cover price after Wednesday. Yep.

So with Venom (2011 Marvel) #33 we get the ol’ homage cover thingy going. Isn’t that nice? One little thing here though. Spawn #222 a few issues ago did the same exact thing. Two comics in such close proximity of each other paying homage to Todd McFarlane’s (paid himself homage; he’s proud of himself) Amazing Spider-Man #316. Click on the collage below to see a bigger image of all 3 covers side by side. Which one do you like best?

Venom

Okay so wrapping up. How about a bunch of number one and number zero issues to look out for? Miss Fury (2013 Dynamite) #1 (Look at that cover – holy assets Batman!), Robyn Hood vs Red Riding Hood (2013 Zenescope) #1, Steam Wars (2013 Antarctic Press) #0 (interesting concept here, Star Wars theme = sold out), Tales of Fear (2013 Aazurn) #1, Unleashed (2013 Zenescope) #0, Snow Angel (2013 Dark Horse) #0, Last of Us American Dreams (2013 Dark Horse) #1, andPolarity (2013 Boom) #1.

Brian K. Vaughn is well known for his epic comic series from Vertigo; Y The Last Man. If you’re looking for a nice collector’s item, the number one issue will cost you about $40. But buy the trade if you want to read the best written comic material in some time. A nice collector’s piece to own from Brian would be one of his first published works.  Marvel’s Tales From the Age of Apocalypse #2 from 1996 would be the one! This comic should (unfortunately) be found in one of those 50 cent boxes at your local shop. Pick this up and brag to your friends that you own Brian’s first work.

Brian (unfortunately) was a part of one of the biggest errors to ever occur in comic book history back in 1998. Wolverine #131 had an anti-Semitism word that rocked the comic book industry. Brian did NOT have anything to do with this error, but Marvel quickly retracted the comic and reissued the correct wording. The comic commanded some serious cash in the aftermarket after word got out about the error, but cooled down tremendously over time. The error book is only $6 these days.Marvel Comics will milk the new Avengers movie for all it’s worth with a new Avengers title Avengers Assemble #1. Will the big “reveal” happen that everyone suspects in Battle Scars #5? If you don’t know what that may be, pick up a copy and found out!

DC’s Suicide Squad #7 gives the reader the origin of Harley Quinn. Her first appearance of course is in Batman Harley Quinn from 1999. Vertigo will offer up an interesting look into politics, intrigue, and aliens. Yes it’s an election year folks! Saucer Country #1, sounds like fun!

Check out some lovely covers coming your way this week below.

See you soon. Invest wisely.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 3-7-12

Welcome to InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 3-7-12.

First off, in case you missed the release of the latest InvestComics You Tube video you can catch it right below! Wow look at that, technology! Just sit back and we’ll bring the entertainment to you!

This particular video was by far the most fun I have ever had putting together a montage. Although my video by no means is a new innovation with the piecing of questions together, but it’s “new” to InvestComics! I seriously owe much thanks to Michael Frick Weber for the inspiration to put together such a fantastic video. I’ve seen Michael work his magic with numerous videos and they are absolutely awesome. Check out Michael’s Videos on You Tube or just follow him on Facebook, great stuff.

Here’s the Video and description from the You Tube Page:

Image Comics gets the spotlight this week with their release of Hell Yeah #1. With a very “Millar/Bendis” feel to this comic, it may sell out due to that factor alone. But with award winning writer Joe Keatinge at the helm, along withElephantmen artist Andre Szymanowicz, this comic does not need much help to sell out anyway.

DC Comics brings back something old something borrowed. Marv Wolman returns with his original series from 1982 called Night Force. If you’d like to check out Night Force #1 from 1982 it would only cost you a dollar more than the new number one coming out this week. Actually you would probably find it in the 50 cent boxes at your local shop if you look hard enough.

DC’s Vertigo line will have a hit on their hands with Fairest #1. Built around the hit Fables series, creator Bill Willingham brings the Females from Fables into their own book. A beautiful cover from Adam Hughes will catch the buyers eye while Phil Jimenez’ pencils on the inside will keep the buyers around for more.

A few number one issues to possibly pick up this week include the latest in IDW’s Infestation 2 Event. The Turtles are in Infestation 2: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1. If you yearn for more of the Avengers movie after seeing the latest trailer (WOW), check out Marvel’s Prelude to Avengers #1……and rounding out this week, make sure to pick up Red Wing’s own Jonathan Hickman’s latest book Manhattan Projects #1.

Also as a reminder, my first written comic will be coming out from Bluewater Productions. Vincent Price: House of Horrors #1 is now available through your Previews catalog or any comic shop on line. You can catch a 5 page preview on Bluewater’s web site right now!

Check out some fantastic covers coming to a shelf near you this week below.

And yes the Stan Lee Interview from InvestComics will be here soon!

Have a great week. Invest wisely.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 11-23-11

Welcome to InvestComics’ Comic Hot Picks 11-23-11

As we’ve already stated in previous Hot Pick articles, DC continues to reign supreme on the front lines as far as new storylines, first appearances, new origins, and new villains. So be sure to stay on top of those books! The million dollar question now for DC is when will the first Crossover/Event hit? Did someone say “summer 2012?”

Avengers Origins comes out this week with a weaker cast than last week (Last week featured a solo Luke Cage actually).  Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch are the focal points. Although not known for their strong presence within the pages of a comic these days, they would probably translate better onto a big screen. It really would be a pleasant surprise to see Scarlet pop up in the new Avengers film. And just in case you’re wondering, with all of this Avengers talk, these two did not first appear in an Avengers book.  But you knew that already, right? They first appeared in The X-Men #4 (1964). The starting bid comes in around the $2800 range. The drawback here is the non household (weak) first appearances (also including the first appearance of the Toad). The plus side is it has Jack Kirby pencils and cover art.

Newer character Tanarus is the new God of Thunder in Mighty Thor #8. In case you missed his first appearance, it’s in Fear Itself 7.2. Thor……. 7.2? Is this necessary? Strange.

Fantastic Four hits a milestone this week with issue #600. You’d figure with all the relaunches, last issues, and it’s funny how we always get that anniversary issue! And what’s human Torch doing on the cover? Didn’t he die? Anyway, check out the creator filled, 104 pages, “please inquire for pricing” anniversary issue!

Need some help with this one folks. Frank Miller is paid some kudos this week with a couple of tribute covers. The first one is a no doubter with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3. A nod to Frank’s Epic Daredevil run, and the awesome cover artist Fred Hembeck borrows from is Daredevil #175. The second tribute is one that is very puzzling. The new Dungeons and Dragons #13 cover by Steve Ellis pays homage to a Wolverine cover that this writer just can’t seem to find. The image of the cover remains in the brain, but the cover number or title slips the mind. If anyone would please point out the issue, this would be great (I’ll be able to sleep!). There is a cover that features Wolverine in a finger motion with claws out that is not the Frank Miller Wolverine #1 (1982). The D&D cover also brings me back to Todd Mcfarlane’s Incredible Hulk #340. But there is that ONE cover (pin up Image maybe?) that has the same exact pose as the D&D cover with Wolverine. Please help!

Here are a couple of Independents to check out this week. Jurassic Strike Force #0 from Zenoscope Entertainment looks very entertaining. And with the holiday’s right around the corner, the great artistry of Billy Tucci brings us A Child is Born.

Check out the covers of the week below. If you have a cover that you think should have made it, share with us! See you next week.

Invest wisely.

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at InvestComics.
