Top 5 New Comics 3-27-24

Edge of Spider-Verse #2 introduces Spooky-Man, apparently the Spider-Verse has room for one more new character. And if that wasn’t enough to make you say, “What the web?”, Cyborg Spider-Man is back from his ’90s hiatus, proving that fashion disasters can indeed be timeless. Remember when cybernetic limbs were all the rage? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Cyborg Spidey first appeared in 1992’s Spider-Man #18. Erik Larsen provided the first cover appearance with Deathlok; Spider-Man #21. Miles Morales Spider-Man #18 hits us with the 300th comic celebration—disguised cleverly as issue #18 because who cares about numbering when you’ve got alternate realities up your sleeve? Look out for Miles channeling his inner Human Torch on a first appearance variant cover. Superior Spider-Man #5 teases us with the potential of a first appearance. Details are as mysterious as Doc Ock’s moral compass, but we’re here for the surprise. In an unexpected twist, Batman Dark Age #1 offers yet another take on Batman’s origin story. DC swears it’s different this time, and with Mark Russell and Michael Allred steering the Batmobile, we’re inclined to believe them—or at least, we’re ready for an aesthetically pleasing ride down memory lane. Jackpot and Black Cat #1 throws together our favorite luckless heroine with, well, Jackpot. It’s like pairing wine with cheese, if the wine was prone to catastrophic bad luck and the cheese had a penchant for stealing everything in sight. Expect shenanigans, potential grand larceny, and maybe, just maybe, a coherent storyline.
