New Comic Speculations: Symbiotes, Skywalkers, and Secret Origins.
Let’s start with Absolute Superman #7, where things go from high-flying to horrific. The mystery of Absolute Brainiac is cracked wide open, and what’s inside is… a little unhinged. We’re talking torture chambers filled with bottled cities—actual miniaturized civilizations being slowly destroyed for his listening pleasure. Sounds like a great guy. This version of Brainiac is absolutely (pun intended) positioned for potential long-term story arcs, and with the Lazarus Corp’s tech connection, collectors might want to stash this issue for future reference. The creative team continues pushing this line into disturbing new directions, adding serious depth to Superman’s modern rogues’ gallery.
Then there’s Batgirl #7, where the second arc kicks off with a little thing called Lady Shiva’s entire secret origin. Not casual dinner conversation, unless you’re Barbara Gordon. The legendary assassin finally spills her story, and with special guest artist Isaac Goodhart handling the visuals, it’s looking like an origin that might shake up Shiva’s mythos going forward. For Batgirl fans and speculators eyeing character-defining issues, this one screams buy-now-before-it’s-a-key-later. Over in Birds of Prey #21, the gals are being hunted. Literally. A newly formed villain squad, custom-tailored to eliminate the Birds of Prey, makes its grand debut. The team is split up, scattered, and already nursing losses. Translation: first appearances galore and some serious setup for future carnage. If you’re tracking firsts or villain team-ups that could become breakout threats, grab this issue before someone on eBay decides it’s a rare gem. Fantastic Four Fanfare #1 tries a little bit of everything—and that’s the point. This anthology entry showcases the Fantastic Four in very different tones. Want a classic prank war between the Human Torch and the Thing? You got it. A deep-earth peril story? Check. A surreal celebrity drama with Johnny Storm getting interrupted by the Mole Man on live TV? Oh, absolutely. With creators like Mark Waid, Ramon Rosanas, Alan Davis, Andrew Wheeler, and Sara Pichelli pitching in, it’s a beautiful mess of fun. Collectors who like standalone stories or first issues of anthologies—add this to your stack. Star Wars #1 launches a fresh chapter for the galaxy’s most recognizable trio—Luke, Leia, and Han—picking up after the dust has barely settled from Return of the Jedi. And you better believe the mess hasn’t stopped. Alex Segura scripts the new era, with Luke taking on mercenaries, Han stuck in underworld nonsense, and Leia once again playing political chess with new enemies of the Republic. If you’re tracking new corners of Star Wars canon—or hunting down #1 issues tied to post-Jedi continuity—this is a hyperspace jump worth taking. All-New Venom #6 gets into symbiote soul-searching mode. We finally learn how this new Venom host came to be—and no, it wasn’t a meet-cute. The fallout from Venom War still lingers, and now we’re dealing with a host/symbiote situation that’s equal parts mystery and body horror. Jackpot shows up for a confrontation, but she might want to rethink that decision after what she finds. Collectors alert: origins, potential firsts, and host revelations usually spell speculative heat. A first-appearance variant cover of Logan Lubera Impossible also lends to the interest of this new comic. Speaking of transformations, Amadeus Cho 20th Anniversary Special #1 is a triple-layered treat. In the first story, we flash back to the eve of World War Hulk, with Cho, Hercules, and the Renegades stealing the spotlight. That tale’s drawn by Cho’s co-creator Takeshi Miyazawa—nice bonus. We then revisit the Totally Awesome Hulk era, which somehow still works, and wrap it all with a present-day tale of Amadeus morphing into something… new. New form? New identity? Possibly a launchpad moment? Yeah, speculators, keep this one close. And lastly, because Deadpool couldn’t stay quiet, there’s Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe One Last Time #2. Wade Wilson’s on a cross-universe kill spree, and this time, things are a little too HYDRA-y for comfort. S.H.I.E.L.D. cosplaying as HYDRA? Deadpool notices. And responds the only way he knows how—with guns, blades, and existential commentary. Fans of meta madness and collectors of alternate timeline chaos will probably want to see how far Wade goes before he nukes reality.
