Buy/Bid – Amazing Spider-Man #790

Buy/Bid – Thanos #12

Buy/Bid – Daredevil #28

Buy/Bid – Captain Marvel #125

It’s no secret that InvestComics has informed comic readers time and time again that writer Charles Soule is bringing the Daredevil character to a new place in storytelling. This week Daredevil #28 promises to rock your world on the last page. We wait with bated breath. Ron Garney illustrates. Ron too….Ron too. Man these guys are fantastic.
It’s Thanos vs his son Thane in Thanos #12. The finale.
A NEW Thor story that does not star Jane Foster as Thor. The original Thor makes it into a new comic book. Thor: Where Walk the Frost Giants #1. Creators Ralph Macchio and Todd Nauck.

Buy/Bid – America #8

Buy/Bid – Silver Surfer #14

Buy/Bid – Marvel Boy #1

Buy/Bid – Thor Frost Giants #1

Buy/Bid – Moon Girl #24

Keep an eye out on all of the new Marvel Legacy books. A lot of first appearances popping up and one is bound to break out. Amazing Spider-Man #790 may have a first appearance, so check that one out.
Captain Marvel #125 reveals the secret origin of Carol Danvers. Great Dan Mora Hulk homage cover too.
Marvel Comics solicits America #8 as the first appearance of Exterminatrix. Hmmm….that isn’t right. Maybe it’s the NEW version of this character. Exterminatrix first appeared in Marvel Boy #1 in 2000. This book was written by Grant Morrison. Art by J.G. Jones. That’s some creativity fire power there. America #8 from creators Gabby Rivera and Joe Quinones.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #24 features an appearance of the X-Babies team. It’s been two years since we last saw them together. The last time we saw them together was in Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX #4. Guess who the writer, artist and cover artist was for that issue……yep, Skottie Young.

Jughead Hunger May 2017

Buy/Bid – Suicide Squad #28

Buy/Bid – Jughead Hunger #1

Buy/Bid – Gotham City #2

Buy/Bid – House of Horror #1

Suicide Squad #28 will bring back two long lost DC characters.
As already said here, the new Gotham City Garage comics will be a direct take from the DC Collectible statue line. Keep close to this series as we could see an introduction or two of a new character. Gotham City Garage #2 will be here Wednesday.

DC Comics releases a horror comic, just in time for Halloween, from a plethora of comic creators; DC House of Horror #1.
The Ruff & Reddy Show #1 comic looks as though it’s more of an adult themed take on the two Hanna Barbara characters. Ruff & Reddy were first introduced into the comic book world back in 1958’s Four Color Comics #937. The current series will be written by legend Howard Chaykin and drawn by Mac Rey. Should be a good read with good visuals.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.

Buy/Bid – Heavy Metal #284

Buy/Bid – Iron Maiden #1

Buy/Bid – Sink #2

Buy/Bid – Spawn #279

Buy/Bid – Taarna #1

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks;
Writer Frank Tieri and artist Michael Walsh return to their hit Jughead Hunger one shot they were a part of back in May. That book sold out, quick. Not only will this creative team be coming back, Jughead: The Hunger #1 will be a regular ongoing. Yes They’ll bring it and Frank will do it his way. Not Sinatra, Tieri. He’ll do it…..never mind. InvestComics is team Tieri. Always. Brooklyn sticks together.
Keep a close eye on Spawn #279 as it teases the ‘evolution’ of a new character.
Hack/Slash: Resurrection #1. Creators Tini Howard, K. Michael Russel and Celor.
The follow up to the sold out number one issue; Gasolina #2 hits.

Scare Tactics #7

Santa vs Dracula

Mazscara

Gasolina #2

Eternity #1

Ash AOD #4

Buy/Bid – Sink #2 – JOCK

InvestComics usually reserves comment on a comic cover because it’ll probably end up in our ‘Best Comic Covers Of The Week’ post. Unless we feel it deserves a mention here because it’s that intriguing. Artist Pasquale Qualano pays homage to Todd McFarlane with his cover; Ash vs The Army of Darkness #4. Many artist have swiped the Amazing Spider-Man #316 cover, but we just wanted to point this one out. Okay one more cover to mention, Silver Surfer #14, Jack Kirby cover. It looks as though it’s on its way to a sell out too.
One of InvestComics’ favorite publishers graces fans with a great ‘fight comic’ this week. Check out Scout Comics’ Santa vs. Dracula. Tis the Halloween/Christmas season! Creators Ed Power and Melissa Dejesus. Also, Solar Flare, Season 2 #1; James Haick III and Branko Jovanovic.
Valiant introduces new worlds, new characters, new origins and more in Eternity #1. Creators Matt Kindt and Trevor Hairsine.
Heavy Metal releases three number one comics this Wednesday. Taarna will make her comic book debut after first appearing forty years ago in Heavy Metal Magazine #284. What took so long? Taarna #1 from creators Alex De Campi and Stephane Roux. Alex Ross covers. Eddie, from the heavy metal band Iron Maiden makes his comic book debut in Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast #1. Well, it’s sort of his debut. DC Comics featured ‘Iron Maiden’ in Scare Tactics #7 (1997). They never referred to Iron Maiden as ‘Eddie’, so yes/no on that first appearance. Look for Eddie and Taarna to continue their comic book lives after their debuts. Also from Heavy Metal; 1985: Black Hole Repo #1, creators Michael Moreci and Seth Sherwood.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Comix Tribe follows up their sold-out Sink #1. Sink #2 from John Lees, Alex Cormack and Ryan Lee. The Steven Wilcox JOCK homage cover is red hot right now in the aftermarket.
Sugar Boogarz #1 (Cosmic Times); Michael Duron. This comic could be on delay this week.

Gao #1 (Antarctic Press); Alfred Perez.

DC continues to bring back many characters from obscurity. This week The Ray begins his own series in Justice League Of America The Ray #1. His first appearance was in his self titled book; The Ray #1 in 1992. This comic can be found for a couple of bucks on Ebay. Click that link and buy yourself a copy now if you believe in the Ray making a comeback. Or just buy it because Joe Quesada penciled the original series and then returned in 1994’s Ray “Rebirth” to do a few covers.
Staying on topic here about characters making their return, judging a book by its cover Superman #15 this Wednesday, Superdemon from Earth 13 looks to make his return. He first cameo appeared unnamed in Superman Beyond 3D #1 (2008). Superdemon reemerged on the variant cover of Multiversity Society Of Super-Heroes #1 (2014) by Frazer Irving. He was finally mentioned and appeared by the name ‘Superdemon’ in The Multiversity #2 (2014). And that is the Whole Superdemon checklist!
….And one more DC character coming back this week; Kamandi. With the release of Kamandi Challenge Special #1, DC will reprint Kamandi, The Last Boy On Earth #32 (1975) to its entirety. Here’s the thing with the new Kamandi book. It has a cover price of $7.99. The Kamandi, The Last Boy On Earth #32 (1975) on Ebay, the original, can be purchased at the same price or a few buck more. Why not get THAT instead of the new one?? It’s the same exact book, but better. It has the original Jack Kirby pencils, story and cover. This comic also has the retelling of Kamandi’s origin. Yes, get the original, stop being silly.

Many first will occur with the new character Mosaic from Marvel. Although we’re not completely up on our Mosaic guidebook, but Marvel says that in Mosaic #4, his first encounter with a super-hero occurs. That first hero is Spider-Man.
The biggest romance in comics in a long time continues in Spider-Gwen #16, with a stellar Robbi Rodriguez variant cover. Crossover storyline; ‘Sitting In A Tree’ part two.
Amazing Spider-Man #23 cover art Alex Ross gets a thumbs up from us. Gwen Stacy joins the bad guys? Read and find out.
Although an amazing cover by Francesco Mattina on Gamora #2, it looks like She-Hulk no?
Marvel will put the new Iron Man; Riri Williams against a seriously big time villain yet to be announced in Invincible Iron Man #3. The Stefano Caselli cover is on point.
The Captain Marvel character gets a new start….again. Mighty Captain Marvel #1, written by Margaret Stohl and art from Ramon Rosanas.
The Gwenpool Army makes an appearance in Gwenpool #10.

It’s been a long while since monster comics dominated the genre. At one point dinosaurs, mummies, vampires and a bevy of other monster type characters were the ‘go to’ for a sale within the industry. In today’s market, Devil Dinosaur is teaming with Moon Girl and that seems to be going well, no? This Wednesday Marvel will attempt to test this market to see if there is in fact a market for monster books. As we have stated in previous Hot Picks years ago and recently, Disney (Marvel) has yet to touch on two comic book genre’s on the big screen and television. Water and horror/monster comics. Enter one of those test markets this Wednesday with Monsters Unleashed #1. Creative firepower accompanies this book; writer Cullen Bunn and artist Steve McNiven. Should be a fun ride.

Ms Marvel

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks…..

There are two types of marketing strategies in this world. There is marketing and then there is marketing. If you fall into the latter, you understand why we do most of the things we do around here. That said, there are certain companies that understand the process and some that don’t. Valiant Entertainment release their comic Divinity III Aric #1 this Wednesday with many critics complaining and harassing on various boards around the internet. Why you may ask? Well we will do a show and tell. Take a look at four of the five covers being released in this article. What do you see? Exactly. Valiant had a chance to possibly change things, but they declined to do so. Good for them. Although very similar, It’s not the same. Let fans talk and create that buzz, get them talking, sharing, complaining, commenting, it’s all a moot point. Valiant wins here no matter what. They got your attention and you’re talking about it. It’s all free publicity. It’s marketing 101 right here. Good stuff. And oh yes, we’re quite confident too that Valiant will back up their mini comic book fan mutiny against there character lookalike with a ridiculously fabulous story from Joe Harris. Art by David LaFuente.

With the influx of female characters making their way into the comic book medium these days, with lots of thanks to Disney (Marvel) making it so that the female character shows more of a “character side” as they have never before, we wanted to make sure to recognize some of the keys players. We completely understand that female characters have been around since the inception of comic books (no need for a history lesson, stop typing that email or Facebook post), but there is a movement happening in the past few years to the likes we have never really seen in case you haven’t realized it. Disney put a female lead in its new Star Wars movie, now the next Star Wars movie (Rouge One) will ALSO be a female lead. They know what they’re doing and their comics are following the same guidelines. So as is everyone else in the comic book industry. Much like what always happens with InvestComics and everyone following us or emulating. We’re flattered though. Like Disney.

Listed below are some new comics, some old comics and characters WE like. This will be the first installment of more Female character checklist to come. Of course we will in FACT not have some of your favorites here, but all in due time. Relax. Just breathe. Deep breaths. No emails, no Facebook post, Tweets, Instagram notes. Breathe……breathe.

Moon Girl 1

Hot Pick Of The Week – Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 – Click To Buy/Bid

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 – Here’s the first appearance of Moon Girl and an overall fun book to check out this week. A keeper here.

Dark Knight III – Huge expectations for DC and fans alike. Spoiler alert coming up in case you don’t know, so discontinue reading if need be……..Frank Miller said that Carrie Kelly will take the Batman mantle in this latest installment. Wow another gender change for a big character, how original.

Silk #1 – InvestComics has and will always be on team Silk. Originality within this character brings the cultural and gender into play making for a possible deeper character driven hero for years to come.

Henchgirl #2 – Scout Comics has done it again. A sold out number issue (short print run) and a sold out number two issue. Henchgirl is hitting a cord with fans.

Jacked #1 – Maybe Hollywood or a television studio will come-a-knockin’ with this story. Or maybe not, but a DC/Vertigo title written by Eric Kripke will be an interesting book.

Well we cannot avoid the elephant in the room this week, so lets get it out the way shall we? Dark Knight III. Yep Dark Knight III and it’s 48 variant covers at last count. Absurdity at its finest here. 48 covers, is this truly necessary? Of course it’s not, but money is important for business, so while not necessary, it’s business. Before moving on, we want to point out that what you’re about to read regarding all of the hype regarding DKIII you may have heard here before over the years, just some rehash, an observation, some added numbers…..

Here are some things to consider if you’re in the market for that rare rare crazy variant. The first and most obvious, well maybe not so obvious to the potential buyer, but if you spend a whole bunch of money on a “rare” DKIII variant, you just bought a comic book “cover” for say….$150. So now you have yourself a “nice” pretty cover with the SAME EXACT insides as probably 1 million other comic books. Absolutely NOTHING different within the confines of YOUR pretty expensive cover’s insides as opposed to the other million copies. So your options are one or two things after you make your $150+ purchase. Get it graded (9.8 or more) and quadruple your intake (poor sap buying that! Wow) or hold onto it thinking you’ll have a comic to send your children to college with, which will never happen. Here’s a wake-up call. First and foremost, Dark Knight III will probably be a great book, better than Dark Knight II, but NOT better than Dark Knight I. Let’s have a clear understanding of something here, if you are an avid collector you will not have to read ahead here, but this is for the newer collectors and the others that have been brainwashed by websites trying to over-hype 48+ covers. The Dark Knight Returns (1986) came out right before Watchmen #1 (1986). Whether you are a fan of either of these books or not, these were game changers. Fifty years from now, pop culture will refer back to 1986’s Dark Knight and Watchmen books. It will not refer back to 2015 Dark Knight III. It just won’t happen. So lets do a quick reminder before the hate mail, Dark Knight III will probably be a great read. Better than II, but it probably won’t be a game changer. A game changer will always be a reference, a shape, a starting point, a long term monetary gain. Here is the pricing of three recent graded copies of DKI (1986) and what they sold for; 9.4 $220, 9.6 $239, 9.8 $750. Don’t you feel the pricing should be just a bit higher here, considering the iconic attachment of this book right? Well it probably would be, but one slight setback, too many copies out there. According to the CGC Census there are 344 9.8 graded copies and 725 at 9.6 and 350 at 9.4. and so on…..that’s a whole lot of comics. This is the reason the pricing will steadily increase over the years, but will never bounce to ridiculous numbers quickly like DKIII will in the immediate interim. Now lets relate ALL of this to Dark Knight III. The other speculative sites will inform buyers that this will be a book for the ages. Newsflash, It’s not going to be, but most buy into it and will jump all over it. All of those crispy 9.8 rare variants of Dark Knight III will go out to the grading companies and now you will eventually far exceed the 344 copies from 1986 that grade at 9.8. They will sell at or ABOVE the last sold copy from 1986. Does this make sense at all to you? Oh yes yes, it’s a special cover that’s right. The inside is still the same right? Yes yes it is, we’ve already established that. But man is this a great money grab right? There will be over hyped buyers listening to these other sites and essentially making a bad purchase, but readers here will be smart and sell their books if they can double/triple their money. Do not let greed set in, you will eventually lose.

Dark Knight I (1986) contained the first appearance of Carrie Kelly. It was written Frank Miller. Art by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson. Dark Knight III this Wednesday will be written by Brian Azzarello and ….Frank Miller? Back to that in a sec. Art by Andy Kubert /Klaus Janson. So it’s said that Frank Miller had nothing to do with the story. DC attached his name as though Miller was an intricate part of the story, but he kind of wasn’t. Frank Miller did state though that he will be THE writer on Dark Knight IV. Oh joy, 80 variants for that one we hope!

Will Dark Knight III contain that all too important first appearance to keep its lure? Will the story be so groundbreaking that it changes the comic book medium? This is the only way in the comic collectors hobby that DKIII will sustain its long term monetary value in ANY way. Otherwise what you will have in that $600 Jim Lee variant cover is…..a pretty cover. Good luck with that. Invest that $600 on a Silver Age or Bronze Age book.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

In closing regarding DKIII. Before anyone sends the hate mail we are not suggesting you do not buy DKIII or any of its variants. We are not down on DKIII. We’re not saying NOT to buy it. You absolutely should. It’s probably going to be a cool read, but what we are saying is not to get caught up in the hype and waste your hard earned money. If you dig a variant and it’s expensive, but YOU dig it, then by all means buy it. Buy what you like because you connect with it. We like to inform collectors of the reality of things and not the fantasy when it comes to speculation. Barring any major introductions or groundbreaking storytelling, this series at the end of the day will be just another good Batman story. Which is fine.

NOTE: To any of the Frank Miller fans, did you know we have a Frank Miller checklist on InvestComics? Yep. Right HERE. Have fun and click on those Miller books you either didn’t know about or forgot about altogether!

(insert sarcasm here) Oh my goodness! It’s Harley Quinn on the cover of a Deathstroke comic! Will Deathstroke #12 be just like the RARE Scooby Doo Team-Up #12 Harley Quinn comic that InvestComics did NOT recommend and sold for a whopping $5.99 on Ebay last week?! No, but it’s a bad as* team-up and should be checked out.

Check out Justice League 3001 #6 as a new race of New Gods make an appearance.

A must read new DC/Vertigo title this Wednesday; Jacked #1. We can see this “ordinary” character becoming a movie or TV series one day.

Image Comics informs their Black Magick readers that a major character introduction will come in Black Magick #2. Sticking with the tip-off deal here from Image, Rumble #9 is set to introduce two major characters into the fray.

WWE fans may want to be put on alert as Ringside #1 from Image Comics hits this week. A violent wrestling story from writer Joe Keatinge. No John Cena here….maybe that’s for the best?

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Saga #31 will return its story line to real time.

Back in 2010 InvestComics pointed out a nice cheap Jack Kirby number one issue/first appearance. It was Devil Dinosaur #1 (1978) and a near mint raw copy was selling for about $9. King Kirby was the writer, artist, editor, and the cover artist of this book for most of the nine issue run. A graded 9.8 PGX graded sold last week for about $74. Still a bargain actually! Why the mention of Devil Dinosaur? Well a sleeper book may hit this Wednesday so don’t nap on it. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 will be a good book. A few variants available, but the regular Amy Reeder cover is our fav. Also a note here and maybe more important than anything we just said. Back in 1978 not only was Devil Dinosaur’s first appearance in the number one issue, but it was also the first appearance of Moon Boy. Guess who’s first appearance is in the 2015 number issue? Yep, Moon Girl.

Regular visitors to the InvestComics website know that we are big fans of Silk. Always have been. We have always felt there is more upside to her character than many other new female characters within the Marvel Universe. Silk #1 in it’s second volume already hits this Wednesday. Written by Robbie Thompson and art by Stacey Lee. You’re going to have to fight through a lot of the Silk #1 volume 1 to find Silk #1 volume 2 on Ebay right now. The popularity of the latest series should overtake the current 300+ listings of volume 1. Or after you click the link, you can input “vol 2” on the search bar! Some still come up differently on Ebay, so you’ll have to try different searches; i.e. Volume 2, Silk #1 vol 2, Silk vol 2 #1, etc…..

So what does Marvel do if they A: don’t want to pursue the Rom character back from obscurity or B: never cared enough to even think they want Rom back so they lost out to IDW Publishing in getting Rom back first even if they did in fact want him. Confused yet? We are. Anyway, comic fans know by now that Rom Space Knight is now at IDW Publishing. With that, Marvel will try to one up IDW this Wednesday with Venom Space Knight #1. No for real, no joke. No Amazing Spider-Man #300 Venom here, no this is Venom Space Knight! Marvel put writer Robbie Thompson and artist Ariel Olivetti on this book. They’re looking for a pop here. Will they get it? Hmmm…..maybe not? Maybe? But the Mike Deodato Jr. variant is awesome though isn’t it?

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

What happened to Fiona Staples on Archie?? Welcome artist Annie Wu to Archie #4. Fantastic Paul Renaud variant cover.

InvestComics gave you a heads up on Henchgirl #1 from Scout Comics. It sold out it’s short print run rather quick. Now the followup; Henchgirl #2. Will the second issue dictate where the series is headed? Will fans pick up on it? If you dug the first issue, show your support. Oh wait wait, we forgot to mention, Henchgirl #2 is sold out. Maybe the fans are speaking out already!

Aaron Lopresti’s Power Cubed #2 (Dark Horse) follows up on the first fantastic issue. Doesn’t that look like Marvel’s Devil Dinosaur on the cover though? Guess any red colored T-Rex will look like Devil dinosaur right? Also coming from Dark Horse this week is Steam Man #1. That comic caters to the steampunk fans.

DC continues the deep origin the Arkham Knight in Batman Arkham Knight Genesis #3.

The Justice League team have new powers and are all “God like”. The new powered Justice League team appears in this weeks Justice League #45.

For those interested, Teen Titans Hunt #1 will focus on the secret origin of the team.

Some of the best reading source material comes from DC’s imprint Vertigo. This week Gail Simone writes Clean Room #1 from Vertigo. There’s not much else to say here, but this will probably be a very good read.

The Invincible title will dare to reboot itself? Check out Invincible #124 as everything in the comic starts from the beginning? Only Robert Kirkman would do this to us. This is probably a fantastic jumping on point too.

An Inhuman stars in his own book this Wednesday. Karnak #1 written by the awesome Warren Ellis. A pick up for sure. Also, Karnak first appears in a book InvestComics has been touting for years now; Fantastic Four #45 (1965). We’re still a bull on this comic.

The number one issue parade continues onward for Marvel Comics this week. Astonishing Ant-Man #1 looks like a decent book, but haven’t we all seen the movie though? And what’s with all the characters on the Mark Brooks cover? Secret Wars Agents Of Atlas #1 will throw a bunch of characters together in hopes you at least like one of them and buy the book.

Speaking of the Inhumans. The new Uncanny Inhumans #1 comic is very iffy. It’s an all new line up; Human Torch? Beast? We’re not really feeling the additions here. The old team is where it’s at. A great creative lineup could sway many readers and collectors alike that are not grasping the initial vibe here. Charles Soule writes and Steve McNiven does the art.

New Star Wars comic; Darth Vader #11. More fantastic Star Wars material from Marvel.

So what exactly will Marvel’s cinematic Phase 4 look like? Here are a couple of potential plot lines, one of which was mentioned here on InvestComics quite a while ago. And the way the rumors are swirling and the movies are possibly lining up, it’s probably coming to fruition. But we’ll get to that potential in a little bit because we want to get to our newer speculation on Phase 4 or maybe part of the next Avengers phase first.

The speculation has to to be met with a huge entity to battle on the screen. The Avengers cannot battle Juggernaut because that wouldn’t make for a compelling movie. The fight would last one scene. And Fox owns the rights, but that’s another story for another day. Galactus? Oh wait, another story, another day. How about Korvac? Yes. Korvac caused a lot of problems back in the late 70’s in the Avengers title. So much so that the Guardians of the Galaxy (not the present team) showed up in an Avengers title to help out. Avengers #167 was the first time the Guardians of the Galaxy (not the present team) appeared in an Avengers book, as did Korvac. So what ties does Korvac have to the Marvel films? How about the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Cosmic universe, and Captain America. Yes there are plenty of villains that have ties like this, but none are of a big enough entity (Thanos, Doomsday, Darkseid, Galactus) to warrant a movie based around it that includes so many ties to so many things going on now within the Marvel cinematic universe. With the release of Korvac Saga #1 coming this Wednesday, why not get on top of some of the older Korvac books instead of thinking about that silly $20 variant? Giant Size Defenders #3 (1975) is the first appearance of Korvac. Avengers #167 (1978) is the beginning of the original Korvac saga and the first first time the Guardians team joins the Avengers in their title. Art and cover by George Perez. Another great Korvac book, What If? #32 (1982). A story that asks the question “What if the Avengers Had Become Pawns of Korvac?” A superstar lineup of inkers on this comic. All of these comics are at affordable rates. Maybe we’ll see Korvac in Phase 4. If you don’t, you have some great storytelling comics in your hands, so it’s a win-win.

Back in 2006 the Planet Hulk story line made for some great reading. Writer Greg Pak was the creator of Hulk’s new universe. Greg Pak is to the Hulk what Jim Starlin was to Captain Marvel and the cosmic universe. Creating an entirely new platform to which a character really expands their realm of story telling outside of the normal Marvel universe. Regular readers already know that InvestComics brought up a Planet Hulk movie years ago before anyone even fathomed the thought. This place has a knack of having a hand on the pulse and predicting things like this. Although still a rumor for the most part, no official announcement as of yet, but Planet Hulk might be one of the next phases in the Marvel cinematic universe. So you still have time to grab those Planet Hulk back issues as InvestComics has recommended for years now.

Which brings us to this coming Wednesday. The Planet Hulk story is a big one once again. Get these comics not only for the obvious movie tie in possibility, but for the kick as* story. Planet Hulk #2 will bring back Devil Dinosaur again too. Marvel knew a popular movie with big dinosaurs was going to hit around this time; Jurassic World = making dinosaur’s cool again. So they timed it perfectly to get their red T-Rex character front and center. Back in 2010, InvestComics spoke about Devil Dinosaur’s first appearance in Devil Dinosaur #1 (1978) for the simple fact of who created the character and who puts it down in the comic. Jack Kirby writes, pencils, does the cover art, and is the editor. Talk about different hats, the legend was all over this book. The comic is still very affordable due to its lack of interest, but why wouldn’t a collector be interested here? A cool looking red dinosaur created by Kirby, first appearance in a self titled Bronze Age comic, and with Jack ‘King’ Kirby all over the first issue. Granted it’s a silly red dinosaur, but who cares? Comics are meant to be fun, not so serious all the time. Graded copies in the low 9’s are very low in pricing, while the raw copies are extremely low. With the success of Jurassic World, could you imagine if Marvel Studios ever tried their hand on a dinosaur type movie? And Devil Dinosaur (with Moon Boy!) being the main character? Yes, Moon Boy also first appeared in Devil Dinosaur #1 in case you’re wondering. Bottom line here, rather see this than a Howard The Duck movie any day. Yes we said it.

Speaking of the duck. Did you see that Howard The Duck #4 Spider-Gwen variant from Jason Latour? It’s the already classic(?) Gwen cover, but with Howard in her place. Okay.

Another Gwen variant; X-Men 92 #1. A Ryan Stegman X-Gwen variant cover. As InvestComics has said about these Spider-Gwen variants many times, maybe one of these silly Gwen crossover characters will catch on. Stay on top of it just in case…..

G.I. Joe #215; the funeral for Snake Eyes. A fantastic story from IDW continues to compel the fanbase and some speculators. These comics will be hot for a little bit, but a year from now many collectors probably won’t care. Many dealers are limiting fans to only one copy per customer this Wednesday. By this time next year they won’t be able to give them away. Get in, get out speculators.

On the DC front this Wednesday; Green Lantern The Lost Army #1 written by Cullen Bunn. Justice League 3001 #1 written by Keith Giffen. Superman #41 written by new series writer Gene Luen Yang. And We Are Robin #1. A new series that begs to be cool. The idea is, will fans think so?

Venture #1 from Action Lab Entertainment is a winner. Writer Jay Faerber and artist Jamal Igle have another hit on their hands. The regular and its variants are sold out.

And finally, but not least. Evil Dead 2 Beyond Dead By Dawn #1 from Space Goat Productions looks interesting.

The sold out rare Ravenous #1 variant from Creature Entertainment (signed by 4 creators) will be given away this week on the InvestComics Facebook page. We were supposed to do it last week, but real life stuff impeded this from happening. This week instead. Thanks.

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=207] There are certainties within the comic book collecting genre. If you do not know all of them, then here is one that you should know and if you don’t, well then you need to find another hobby. One valuable certainty is any comic book that contains the words “Jack Kirby” and “First appearance” in the same sentence. Now with that, he has been a part of a couple of clunkers, but it doesn’t matter. He’s a legend and legends that create from their mind always have the potential of something great. Yes Jack has created Kobra, Kamandi, Destroyer Duck, Machine Man and Devil Dinosaur to name a few. On the flip side, character like Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-Men and Silver Surfer have all been synonymously connected to Jack. So what’s with the clunkers you ask? Find a copy, a high grade copy and send it in to get graded. A 9.8 would command a lot more than what you paid for that comic ungraded. Besides, as said earlier it’s a first appearance created by a legend. It needs to be in your collection. Why the Jack Kirby talk at the start of this week’s article you ask? Wonder Woman (2011 4th Series) #15 will bring aboard Orion and the New Gods. The legend Jack Kirby created Orion and the New Gods in 1971’s New Gods #1. This comic does not fall under the clunker category, but does fall in-between the high status and clunker status. This is not by any means to understate or discount the importance of any of these characters, but in many ways one can calculate the importance of a character within their respective universes simply by the supply/ demand it receives. Again, thought process here only applies on the collection side of things. If one feels that OMAC plays a big part of their universe then by all means that’s great! But as far as the collector’s side of things, that’s a bit different. On EBay right now, a 9.6 graded New Gods #1 can be yours for only $445. That’s a nice chunk of change, but incomparable to the Doctor Doom or Magneto creations. That said, a New Gods #1 graded issue is a fantastic buy on any level because it’s done by one of the most iconic figures within the comic book industry ever, period.

Switching gears completely here with the arrival of Avengers Arena (2012) #2 this week we get the promise of more death! Marvel really figured a fantastic thing out here folks. With all of the nonsense going on over the last few years of killing off characters and having it essentially mean nothing these days because it’s done so frequently, Marvel has created a comic that offs characters (granted most are third rate) at a nice pace every issue. Yes it’s Marvel’s version of the Hunger Games, but who cares where the idea originated from? Characters are fighting to the death in every issue and we all have a front seat. Let’s find the birth of these characters before they find their possible early demise. And also remember, you may be getting the first appearance of the winner as well! So we have the Deathlocket (who first appeared in the Avengers Arena #1 issue) pinned against two opponents; Hazmat, who’s first appearance came in Avengers Academy #1 (2010) and Cammi; her first appearance was in Drax the Destroyer #1 (2005). InvestComics is with team Cammi. Go Cammi!

Marvel once again turns back the clock and grabs the U-Foes? Yes in Venom (2011 Marvel) #28 this week the U-Foes make their appearance. The first time they checked in was way back in 1980’s Incredible Hulk #254. Cheap book to own if you’re interested.

Marvel goes back into their vault once again this week to find Monica Rambeau roaming the pages of Captain Marvel (2012 7th Series) #8. Who is Monica you might ask? Monica came onto the scene as the “All New-All Different” Captain Marvel back in Amazing Spider-man Annual #16 (1982). The biggest difference in Monica as Captain Marvel turned out that she was African American. Ridiculous right? But didn’t we somehow go through the same absurdity recently with, this time a MAJOR FLAGSHIP character in the Marvel universe?

DC Comics offer up an all new “something” at the end of Batwoman (2011 2nd Series) #15 and also offer up an interesting titled number one issue with JSA Liberty Files The Whistling Skull (2012) #1. Both worth a look to see what’s what.

And while on topic of number one issues, check out Executive Assistant Iris (2012 Volume 3) #1 and Number 13 (2012 Dark Horse) #1 this week.
