Anything is possible these days, but if one of these MJ covers break out into a new character in the Marvel U, Then we have a first appearance on a cover somewhere. Check out this week’s InvestComics Hot Picks #488 for all the MJ covers.

Marvel will begin their Mary Jane variant cover craze this week. While the idea of MJ appearing as different Marvel characters in her cosplay get-up seems a bit silly, it may set up for a mash-up that won’t go away, thus creating a first appearance on some random cover. This of course is all speculating this will happen. Stranger things have come to fruition, so who knows? Six covers at last count (not including the 3 exclusive J.Scott Campbell covers). Look for all of the covers located throughout this article. Here are the covers MJ will appear on along with the cover artist. All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #3 -Kris Anka, Avengers #8 – Michael Allred, Iron Fist #4 – Stephanie Hans, Champions #9 – Helen Chen, Daredevil #21 – Humberto Ramos, Black Bolt #2 – Ryan Stegman.
Lawyer Murd Blurdock will debut in Rocket Raccoon #2. Written by Al Ewing and art by Adam Gorham.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Secret Wars #1 9.8 (2015). Here is a neat modern graded under a hundred bucks. This high grade modern has three signatures on it, two of which are creators of Deadpool. The sigs; Rob Liefeld, Fabian Nicieza and Johnathan Hickman. All that for $99? Not too shabby.

Regular readers of the weekly InvestComics Hot Picks know how we pinned the title Deadpool And The Mercs For Money down and predicted the outcome of all the players in the previous series getting their own solo comics. Well, not only is Now Foolkiller #1 coming out this week, but Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #5 features the newest team, lead by Domino, getting their act together from the previous issue. We discussed some of the first appearances of Domino’s new team HERE. The old team’s first appearance’s were discussed HERE.
Foolkiller; Greg Salinger, first appeared in Omega The Unknown #8 (1977). Cover by legend Gil Kane. The Now Foolkiller #1 will be accompanied by many variants. The Rob Liefeld B&W Deadpool variant will garner much attention in the aftermarket.

Marvel begins their newest Avengers title(s) this week; Now Avengers #1 (written by Mark Waid) and Now Occupy Avengers #1. Not crazy about the ‘Now’ in the title in front of the Avengers, but it’s still better than a ‘Totally Awesome Hulk’ title. So many variants to choose from, but it’s the inside of the Now Avengers #1 comic you may want to check out too. Someone dies and you have a chance to find out who first……by getting to your comic shop earlier than everyone else. The Alex Ross Now Avengers #1 variant is a beauty.

If you think Marvel will keep away Wolverine or Thor or countless other original characters away from the fray, you’d be sadly mistaken. Now Unworthy Thor #1 begins the comeback(s) of Marvel’s original elite. Writer Jason Aaron and artist Oliver Coipel on Thor’s (possible) return.

On the topic of covers, Michael Choi Champions #2 white cover is an eye catcher. Death of X #3 cover from Aaron Kuder is amazing. Elektra on the cover of Spider-Man 2099 #17; by Francesco Mattina.

InvestComics has been saying it for years, even before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon. A Moon Knight movie! Right?? It’s right there on the cover of Moon Knight #8. No? Okay, we’re reaching, but maybe Marvel planted a seed here for the fans? Wishful thinking, but in the mean time, stock up from our Moon Knight checklist.

Superman #10 will be the comic everyone is talking about this week. The kids of Supes and Bats meet up for the first time. Boy of Steel and Boy Wonder, along with their daddy’s will make for an interesting read. The regular Patrick Gleason & Mick Gray cover is not only fantastic, but it tells the readers what we may be in for. The variant Andrew Robinson cover is very reminiscent of a now iconic Jim Lee Batman cover back in 2003; Batman #612. Looks as though Andrew gives us another angle of the choke hold. We love this cover.

DC Comics Bombshells #19 marks the return of the Batgirls. This team first appeared together in DC Comics Bombshells #7.
Batman #10 continues the ‘I am suicide’ story line. The story that has Batman putting together his own Suicide Squad team. Part two here.
Writer Meredith Finch and artist Shane Davis bring us Catwoman Election Night #1.

With the influx of female characters making their way into the comic book medium these days, with lots of thanks to Disney (Marvel) making it so that the female character shows more of a “character side” as they have never before, we wanted to make sure to recognize some of the keys players. We completely understand that female characters have been around since the inception of comic books (no need for a history lesson, stop typing that email or Facebook post), but there is a movement happening in the past few years to the likes we have never really seen in case you haven’t realized it. Disney put a female lead in its new Star Wars movie, now the next Star Wars movie (Rouge One) will ALSO be a female lead. They know what they’re doing and their comics are following the same guidelines. So as is everyone else in the comic book industry. Much like what always happens with InvestComics and everyone following us or emulating. We’re flattered though. Like Disney.

Listed below are some new comics, some old comics and characters WE like. This will be the first installment of more Female character checklist to come. Of course we will in FACT not have some of your favorites here, but all in due time. Relax. Just breathe. Deep breaths. No emails, no Facebook post, Tweets, Instagram notes. Breathe……breathe.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 11/12/14

Wytches_InvestComics Spider-Verse_InvestComicsBe sure to stop by the Capital Grading Services website for new updates. Like us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. An announcement on the first exclusive signing coming soon!

Not each week does the opportunity present itself that a surefire hit will surface, that one book that will be an instant aftermarket success. This week however, there is that book (and another, but more on that in a bit); Wytches (2014 Image) #2. The success on issue number one was so great, that it will indeed spill over to the second issue, I guarantee it. Get your copy quick because it’s already sold out at the distributor. The reason for the success here? Put Scott Sndyer on writing duties, put Jock on art and cover duties, which equates to a fantastic story. Add to the mix of a possible movie deal and you have instant speculation gold.

A book that may take some speculators by surprise this week is Kitchen (2014 DC/Vertigo) #1. A reverting story line coupled along with the great DC imprint of Vertigo makes for a possible sleeper. The $10 variant is already sold out, so pay attention to this one.

New_Mutants_Annual_1_InvestComics Captain_Marvel_InvestComicsIt’s not too often that an IDW comic cracks the InvestComics Hot Picks list. The aftermarket never acts too kindly to certain independent publishers, this being one of them. That said, not to take anything away from them! They put out an outstanding publishing line. This week IDW gives us a rarer original content comic instead of a licensed one. Check out Bigger Bang (2014 IDW) #1 this week. Looks like a winner.

Drifter (2014 Image) #1 is sold out at the distributor, but is still available at some of the on line outlets. If you are afraid you may miss it at your local shop, you should probably buy it on line before that becomes a non-option for you.

What more can be said on here that hasn’t already been said about Spider-Verse? I have been alerting you for months about how important this saga is. Gave you a heads up on the Gwen Stacy issue too a few weeks ago. It begs repeating though just in case you haven’t been listening. This Spider-Verse story line is one of the most important speculation Spider-Man series to come out in quite some time. This isn’t “One More Day”, or “The Clone Saga”, this is a story line that will introduce and re-introduce every single Spider-Man costume, person, metal armor, and even an animal BACK into the fold of the Marvel universe all at one time. So to reiterate for the millionth time here, what does this Django_Zorro_InvestComics Rocket_Raccoon_Variant_InvestComicsmean for the speculator? It means that there are going to be an abundance of breakout characters here. Old and more importantly NEW! If you are a reader or a speculator, you need to get on every single Spider-Verse book. Anything Marvel throws at us, get it. There will be introductions (and reentries) in books that you were not expecting and BAM the book will blow up because the character(s) suddenly are at the forefront of a new book, or appear in another thus creating a mad frenzy to find that first appearance. I said it from the beginning, the Spider-Verse story line is a huge marketing monster with tremendous potential to explore and introduce new Spider characters. Do not sleep on this specs. So with all of this stated, Spider-Verse (2014) #1 will do all of the above mentioned. The team of Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos begin the awesome series. There are two separate stories introducing two new spider characters. Yes this book, better yet, this series is one to get without a doubt!

And speaking of reintroduction’s, check out Silver Surfer (2014 5th Series) #7. There will be characters reintroduced into the Marvel lure that promise’s to blow readers away. Be sure to take a look and make an executive decision on whether or not to pursue this issue and the first appearances of our old guest. Oh and the best best part of this comic.Want to know? Dan Slott is the writer! So pulling double duty here with the reintro’s.

Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man (2014) #7 will focus on the question; who is Katie Bishop? Maybe she is going to play a major role in the Ultimate Spider-Man universe. Maybe not. Either way, her first appearance was in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #12 (2012).

All New Captain America (2014 Marvel) #1 will be accompanied with 9 variant covers at last count. This gimmick will be short lived because most likely Steve Rogers will be back in given time and Sam Wilson will be out. A “new” CaptaiJon_Sable_Freelance_1_InvestComics Superior_Iron_Man_1_InvestComicsn America is not “new” anymore and it’s grown a bit, become tiresome and non-eventful. It may sell out, but don’t look for record breaking aftermarket numbers here. The $200 variant is the only outstanding book sold out book at the moment. More of the same with the other new book the “new” Captain America will appear in this week; Captain America and the Mighty Avengers (2014) #1. There is a very nice $3.99 Rocket Raccoon variant to check out though.

Guardians 3000 (2014) #2 will introduce a new Herald to Galactus.

A new Iron Man book will turn some heads. Check out Superior Iron Man (2014) #1.

Captain Marvel has been in the news lately. Have you seen that? Something about a movie. Anyway, in this weeks Captain Marvel (2014 8th Series) #9 all eyes will be on Lila Cheney. She guest stars. Lila first appeared in New Mutants Annual #1.

Hero_2014_InvestComicsThe new Hero Initiative comic Hero Comics (2011 IDW) #2014 will feature a new Maxx story from Sam Keith. Mike Grell will provide a new story on his character from 31 years ago, Jon Sable, Freelance. A hot book for a little bit back then. Check out Jon’s first appearance in Jon Sable, Freelance #1 (1983) from First Comics. And incidentally, First Comics are making a comeback with their new release Badger comic coming soon. They were great back in the 80’s. I’m sure they will put out some great reading material this time around as well.

An odd pairing from Dynamite Entertainment this week. Django Zorro (2014 Dynamite) #1. Yes that’s right Django and Zorro?! Sounds like fun! Here’s the most awesome part of this comic release. It’s written by Quentin Tarantino! Get a CBCS witness signature on this comic, score a 9.8 and you have yourself a nice book. We’re on the saddle with this comic. The variants are fantastic too. The favorite is posted here, Nice.

A couple of other number one comics to take a peak at this week; Deep State (2014 Boom) #1 and Resurrectionists (2014 Dark Horse) #1.

Don’t forget to check out the updates on the Capital Grading Services website (www.capitalgradingservices.com).

See you soon. Invest wisely.

Vet Tix: Eddie Rausch

Vet_TixWho and what  is Vet Tix? Their Mission:

Giving Something to Those Who Gave.

Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) provides FREE event tickets to family members of troops Killed In Action (K.I.A.), our Military and Veterans to sporting events, concerts, performing arts and family activities. Attending these events reduces stress through entertainment, strengthens family bonds, builds life long memories and encourages service members to stay engaged with American life and local communities. Giving free event tickets is an expression of appreciation, acknowledgement and an enduring symbol that we, as a nation, honor the service of our troops today and long after their tour of duty has passed. Helping our veterans attend events provides positive family and life experiences after their years of service to our country.

….And with that, a one on one chat with the COO of Vet Tix, Mr. Eddie Rausch. (Please note: Click on any of the covers in this article to see a full image)

Jay Katz: Thank you so much for stopping by Eddie. With great humility Eddie, I want to tell you that InvestComics supports Vet Tix and your cause with great respect.

Eddie Rausch: Thank you for the kind words Jay. Vet Tix appreciates the support you and InvestComics provides our mission.

JK: Why did you decide to start Vet Tix? What compelled you to begin such a tremendous project?

ER: It all started at the 2008 Super Bowl. Two of our other Founders were attending (one U.S. Navy Veteran and the other USMC Veteran) and had a buddy that was part of the pre-game color guard. They learned that once the pre-game ended the color guard were not able to stay and watch the Super Bowl…they were escorted out of the stadium. The entire game the seat next to them sat empty. This seat, this ticket could have been donated so that one of the members of the color guard could have enjoyed the game. The idea was born right there. As soon as I was asked my thoughts about it a day later I was “IN”…thought it was an amazing idea. We have been moving full speed ahead ever since.

JK: Who has come on board to contribute to Vet Tix so far?

ER: If you asking about sports teams then pretty much all of MLB with the exception of 2 teams. Each year we partner with more and more Universities and Bowl Games…last season we distributed tickets to 26 Bowl Games including Fiesta Bowl, Sugar, Bowl, Orange Bowl, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowl. The list really goes on and on including other sports (NBA, NHL, MLS, Minor League Baseball), concerts such as Kenny Chesney, George Strait and a number of music festivals, family events like Disney on Ice and Ringling Brothers, to Broadway plays and even seasonal events like haunted houses and the Polar Express train. If there is a ticket to an event we will accept it and get it distributed to our veterans for use with their families. Later this month we will hit ticket number One Million!!

Lady Death Vet Tix Blank CoverJK: Recently many comic book fans learned about comic book artist Brian Pulido teaming up with Vet Tix. How will Brian contribute?

ER: Brian is absolutely awesome in his support of Vet Tix! Lady Death is his baby…in all reality she is his daughter and he has allowed Vet Tix to be a special part of her 20th Anniversary. He has given Vet Tix permission to reprint issue #1, the one that started it all, and put a blank cover on it stating this is the “Vet Tix Edition” with our logo on the rear cover. We are now working off of a list put together by Brian and myself to secure artists that will create their vision of Lady Death on these 50 covers.

JK: Which creators have come on board so far? Can you share any covers yet or are they still a work in progress?

ER: We have a great list going with more to come…names like Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, Brandon Peterson, Frank Cho, Leinil Frances Yu, Jay Anacleto, Philip Tan, Carlo Pagulayan, Clayton Crain, Kenneth Rocafort, Arthur Adams, Ivan Reis, Humberto Ramos, Mark Brooks, Agnes Garbowska, Billy Tucci, Tim Vigil and Peter Steigerwald. We also have some great new artists that are really turning in some amazing work as well. Artists like Sajad Shah, Dawn McTeigue, Siya Oum, Mike Krome, Jesse Winchman, Jenevieve Broomall, Jaime Tyndall, Mike DeBalfo, Jonathan Marks, Jason Metcalf, Conny Valentina, Sarah Giardina, Alan Quah, Thony Silas and Rian Gonzales. I do not evny the fans that will need to choose between all of these covers…they truly are incredible!!

JK: Brian Pulido is an extremely approachable creator. Any fan that visits a convention knows this. He’s a tremendous talent. What was Brian’s initial response when you approached him regarding a possible project for Vet Tix?

ER: I have known Brian for some time now and for the past few years he has reached out to me/Vet Tix to see how he could support. He has donated back issues to be shipped to our deployed troops and he has started a “Tip Jar” at his table. He will sign all the books a fan wants all he asks is that they donate to the tip jar. These funds at each convention will go to either Vet Tix or Heroes Initiative.

Leinil Francis YuWhen this idea for a blank cover project came up he thought it was perfect timing to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Lady Death and loved the idea. As much as this is an AMAZING way for Vet Tix to raise funds and grant “Hero’s Wishes” I think Brian also enjoys seeing how each artist sees his character. Who knows, maybe we will see more Lady Death from some of these artists now that they have had a chance to draw her and Brian has seen what they can do!

JK: Okay so all 50 comics will be CGC Signature Series graded. Besides being completely awesome, how did you get CGC on board too?

ER: Things just seem to fall in place with CGC. One of our followers on the Facebook event page has a connection high up with CGC. He reached out to me and suggested I call this contact. I did, explained the project and it was a done deal. I was told to send all the completed covers in at once and to mark them to HIS attention and CGC would make certain this books would be made a priority in turn around time. It helps to have fans that also believe in your mission!!

JK: Where can collectors bid on the CGC Lady Death Artist Project once they are done?

ER: Vet Tix has an eBay seller’s account. We have gone through the process of being vetted by them so we can auction the items and any fees that would normally be charged are returned to us due to our status as a 501c3 non profit organization. I would suggest anyone interested add “vet-tix” to their favorite sellers list.

They may also join the event page on Facebook, search Lady Death Artist Project benefiting Vet Tix – Hero’s Wish. On this event page we will post work in progress pics, completed cover pics and add the live links to the eBay auction for each and every cover!

Jay AnacletoJK: Do you have any other creator projects after Brian Pulido’s Lady Death Project that you can tell us about?

ER: WE do!! On the heels of the Lady Death project we will also be doing a similar blank cover project with Billy Tucci for the 20th Anniversary of “Shi, Way of the Warrior”. Our goal is to be able to collect these completed covers and display at either Baltimore or New York Comic Con this fall. There is also an event page on Facebook for this project.

Clayton CrainJK: Are you a comic book collector??

ER: I did collect comics for a number of years, have long box after long box in my collection. I still do a little now, trying to put together a run of Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men 1-100 together, but in 2008 things changed for me when Michael turner passed away from his long battle with cancer. I realized I collected the comic books for the art and began collecting Original Art from those artist I admire.

JK: Please tell everyone where they can go to make a donation, contribute, or become part of the cause.

ER: It is simple, go to www.VetTix.org. Here you can donate tickets and/or money, become verified in our system if you have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or if you are primary next of kin to killed in action and begin making use of the service we provide.

JK: Thank you so much for your time Eddie. Your foundation is an amazing tribute to the men and women who serve this great country of ours. It was an honor. Thank you.

ER: Thank you Jay. What we do here at Vet Tix is a true pleasure and an HONOR. Not many people get to do what they love on a day to day basis but I can tell you the staff here at Vet Tix absolutely loves being able to create opportunities for our veterans to make memories with their families that will last a lifetime. Some of my strongest memories from my childhood are from going to baseball games with my father when he was on leave from his service in Vietnam and I want to be able to give Jenevieve BroomallMike Krome

PETER PARKER RETURNS IN AN ALL-NEW AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1

With Great Responsibility Comes Great…Resurrection

New York, NY (January 13th, 2014) – Marvel Entertainment is excited to announce the triumphant return of Peter Parker as everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man this April in an all-new AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1. In 2012, the comic book world was shocked to find that Doctor Otto Octavius, aka Doctor Octopus, had switched bodies with Peter Parker and, in the process, left Peter Parker to die in Octavius’ cancer-ridden shell. Since then, Octavius has been fighting crime by his own dark methods in the pages of The Superior Spider-Man.

Teased throughout the entire run of The Superior Spider-Man, written by Dan Slott (The Mighty Avengers, She-Hulk), Peter’s presence never quite left his body and is now set to regain control and show the world who Spider-Man is – and no one could be more excited than Dan Slott himself. “I’ve been a Spider-Man fan since I was eight years old. Of COURSE I want to see Peter back! He is the one, true Spider-Man,” says Slott.

With Peter Parker swinging back into action in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1, Slott, including fan-favorite artist Humberto Ramos (The Spectacular Spider-Man, Pete Parker: Spider-Man), are returning readers to intense and highly kinetic web-slinging action. Senior Editor, Stephen Wacker says, “The entire creative team is incredibly excited to bring readers the next stage in Spider-Man’s life. And I can promise you that the plans for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, over the next year, will be the biggest Spidey epic yet!”

However, the question on everyone’s mind has not been the “when”, but the “how” Peter Parker returns from the dead and Slott is quick to tease just that. “In a strange and terrifying way. And… possibly… at a very great cost. Remember, nothing is ever easy for Peter Parker. It’s one of the reasons he’s a true hero,” says Slott.

Every FIRST ISSUE bearing the All-New Marvel NOW! branding includes a code for a free digital copy of that same comic on the Marvel Comics app for iOS and Android devices.

Once again, the biggest creators bring you the biggest characters in the biggest stories…and it’s happening NOW!

Welcome to InvestComics Hot Picks for 6-13-12.

As comic book fans we all knew this was going to happen, although it happened in a quicker manner than initially thought. Its Amazing Fantasy #15 meets Ultimate Fallout #4. Peter Parker will meet Miles Morales this week in Spider-Men #1. What will this bring exactly? Probably some cool reading, but nothing as far as long term collecting goes. You’d have to pick up the variants if you’re looking for a collectors value at all to this meeting of the minds between Parker and Morales. There are only 2 variants (only 2? Thank goodness!) to this “historic event”. One featuring the talented Humberto Ramos while the other is a comic shop dealer variant done by another great talent Mark Bagley. Where will Miles fit into the Marvel Universe is the question that we all ask…..

As for the Spidey story, we all know it right? Way back when Stan Lee introduced us all to Spider-Man back in 1962, Stan said he was inspired by the idea of Spider-Man from the Pulp magazine The Spider. The Spider #1 from 1933 in G/VG condition on EBay has a Buy it Now price of $699. There are some comics worth having in your collection, and then there is the “inspiration” comic that began the wheels turning for one of the most iconic Superheroes of all time. Yes a nice addition indeed.

Switching gears dramatically here, there are two first appearances you can hunt for this week along with your new stack. DC’s Before Watchmen have started their arrivals upon your local shop. This week we get Silk Spectre #1. If you are one of the few that do not own the original Watchmen series, simply put you should. Forget the trade here, get the original set. Within the series, issue #2 features the first appearance of Silk Spectre.

The second of our two searches comes off of the new IDW comic this week Kiss #1 Dressed to Kill. Anyone rememberwhen that Dressed to Kill album came out? Yes showing the age here, time goes quickly! Anyway, as many of you know or may not know Kiss’ first appearance came within the pages of Howard the Duck #12. The 9.8 CGC copy on EBay right now has a Buy it Now price of $89.95. Or you can buy a “Near Mint” copy in the $40 to $50 range from some Top Rated sellers. Although the first appearance of Kiss is a decent comic to own, it’s the Marvel Comics Super Special Kiss #1 that draws blood here…..literally. For those of you who don’t already know about this comic here’s the short story. Before the comic went to print, each member in the band Paul, Gene, Peter and Ace drew blood and proceeded to mix it in within the ink. Either really gross to some or very cool. The coolness here has to be the price the CGC 9.8 is fetching on EBay. $1250.00! That’s some rich….*ahem* blood.

Batgirl #10 brings us an introduction of a new villain, while Uncanny X-Force #26 greets us to the Omegas and Image Comics Planetoid #1 looks like an interesting book to not pass up.

This was one of the lighter weeks we have had here on InvestComics Hot Picks in a while, but never fret there are always busy ones lurking ahead!

In the meantime, scroll through some beautiful artistry in the best of the best below – Covers of the Week.

See you next week. Invest wisely.
