Lets be honest who doesn’t have a special place in their heart for “The Boys”  What is “The Boys”????  The series is set between 2006-2008 in a world where superheroes exist. However, most of the superheroes in the series’ universe are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world. For this reason, a super powered CIA squad, known informally as “The Boys”, is charged with monitoring the superhero community.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 7-20-11

Welcome to the IC Comic Hot Picks.

There are many Indie books to check out this week, but let’s do a quickie of the “big 2” first.

Marvel – With a re-launch of Captain America last week, this week we see another long time Marvel hero get a new number one issue. Daredevil gets the nod this week as Marvel seems to be spreading out their new number one issues as oppose to DC doing most of them all at once. The question remains as always, is this really necessary? That said it should be an interesting go here with Mark Waid writing the series and Paolo Manuel providing the artwork. Very cool Variant covers from legends John Romita Sr. and Neal Adams as well.

Well the hype machine comes out once again with one of Marvel’s solicits stating “This is the X-Men comic that will have people talking for years!” We’ll see on Wednesday if this one lives up to the hype.

The (moderately successful?) Fear Itself rampages on in Fear Itself FF #1 with another fine cover from Gabriele Dell’otto.

DC – Batman #712 introduces a new character. That’s always fun within a Bat comic. War of Green Lanterns: Aftermath #1 is a definite pick up. And the Flashpoint books continue……

Indie’s – Like The Boys series? Check out the new Boys comic The Boys Butcher Baker Candlestickmaker #1. Image Comics Repulse #1 looks like a possible hit. Check out that Szymon Kudranski cover too. Visionary Comics/Pinnacle Entertainment Deadlands: Massacre at red Wing from Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Do you really need any other reason NOT to check this book out?

Here are a few more Indie’s you should check out; Marksman #1, Rain #1, Haunted City #0, and the awesome Sergio Aragones with his self titled Funnies #1.

That’s it for this week. See you next week! Invest wisely.

InvestComics Comic Hot Pick 2-27-08

This comic will probably be a movie someday….

Kick Ass # 1 – Marvel

Marvel this week will be releasing its first highly anticipated book of the year. The promotion for the comic calls the comic book fan idiots if they don’t buy this book. Marvel has a lot of nerve saying this with a title of “Kick Ass”. This is one of the lamest comic book titles to come out in quite some time. (Yes we know Marvel was joking-calm down everyone, but we’re not!)

With a star studded team of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., this promises to be a great read as well as great eye candy. Remember though, great teams don’t always add up to a great comic. Although the previews are proving that Kick Ass does not seem to be breaking new ground on storytelling, it does seem very interesting. Marvel is cranking up the old hype machine on full tilt.

So Is this comic a Frank Miller Dark Knight game changer? No way. Is this DC’s Watchmen? Nope. Is Hollywood going to put their bid on this series to make for a possible film? Now this is a possibility.

The Boys just got picked up by Hollywood last week. Yes Hollywood has pimped itself out and is grabbing anything that has readers buzzing. If enough buzz about this comic gets out with these top two creators attached to it, Hollywood is going to be a knockin’. The only investment side potential with this comic is the potential movie that might come of it. Otherwise, read it, enjoy it, put it  away……you never know.

Invest wisely.
