Top 5 New Comics This Week: First Appearances, Secret Origins, and Kaiju Chaos
New Firsts, Symbiotes, and Gwenpool’s Violent Comeback Headlines This Week’s New Comics.
Let’s start with Godzilla vs. X-Men #1, which throws Marvel’s favorite misunderstood mutants straight into the jaws of the King of the Monsters. This is round four in a six-part series of one-shot slugfests, and this time it’s not just Godzilla’s atomic breath that’s heating things up. There’s a deeper mystery about why he’s attacking a robotics firm—something even the Sentinels are getting involved in. Yep, the X-Men are protecting humanity from both a kaiju and, ironically, humanity itself. Don’t overlook the potential for first appearances or new tech revelations in this one. Because when Godzilla shows up, there’s usually more under the surface than stomping and screaming. Then there’s Gwenpool #1, and no, she hasn’t mellowed out. This time around, Gwenpool’s gone darker, grittier, and possibly a little unhinged as she drops hyper-violent justice in a war-torn NYC. She’s still got the meta-awareness, but now it’s filtered through a Punisher lens—and the results might shock even her most chaotic fans. Add in guest stars like Fin Fang Foom (yes, really) and the always meme-able Jeff the Land Shark, and you’ve got a comic with high variant potential and even higher confusion levels. First appearances? We’ve got questions. Keep an eye on what’s really going on with this “Dark Gwenpool.” Hellverine #6 continues its descent into supernatural mayhem with the first full appearance of the “Hell Hulk.” That name alone should get collectors twitching. A new demon steps into Marvel continuity, and Hellverine has to be the one to stop it? Expect heavy action, heavy horror, and a heavy number of variant covers that’ll end up on “look back” lists in six months if this Hell Hulk sticks around. This issue could become the one to own if this demonized gamma-beast proves to be more than a one-off. In Miles Morales Spider-Man #33, Marvel taps into their deep myth bag again and delivers a fight we didn’t know we needed—Miles, now a herald of the spider-god Anansi, must battle Ares, literal god of war. Hercules jumps in, because obviously we’re stacking gods now. And here’s where the speculation radar pings: the first appearance of War-Cry, Philomelus (a demigod of earth), and Pyrrah (a demigoddess of water). That’s three characters in one issue. Add in mythological hooks, and you’ve got a solid sleeper for future MCU wishlists. The multiversal bloodbath continues in Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse #1, where new characters debut amidst complete web-slinging chaos. Meet Spider-Prowler, a brand-new addition to the Spider-Verse—and the mysterious new symbiote Yaleo, who could be a game-changer if Marvel plays it right. With the Web-Heart in danger, and eight-legged heroes facing down a symbiote army, this series doesn’t just throw punches—it sets up the next big crossover collectible pieces. Variant hunters, get ready.

Supergirl #1 gets a clean start thanks to writer/artist Sophie Campbell, who’s putting Kara Zor-El back in Midvale—except she’s not the only Supergirl in town. Someone’s been saving the city in her name, and that’s not going to fly. If you’re into first appearances, this mysterious Supergirl doppelgänger is your red flag. Plus, the new costume is designed by Stanley Artgerm Lau, which guarantees cover demand. This could be the beginning of a modern definitive take on Supergirl—and collectors will want in early. From the Shrouded College universe comes Cold Witch: A Tale of the Shrouded College #1, another horror-thriller from Charles Soule and Will Sliney. This standalone entry features a wronged woman in frozen Siberia who raises the undead in a revenge-driven zombie bloodbath. Think John Wick if he used necromancy instead of firearms. The series expands the “supernatural espionage” universe set up in Hell to Pay and The Bloody Dozen, but you don’t need to read those to start here. Variant collectors, note: COVER C includes a serialized, numbered coin—yes, an actual collector’s item embedded into the release. Now let’s get wild with Exquisite Corpses #1, a Halloween-set bloodsport with a twist: every five years, 12 top-tier killers are dropped into a small town, and the last one standing wins. Unfortunately for Oak Valley, Maine, it’s their turn to host this ritualistic culling. From the brain of James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh, this triple-sized issue kicks off a 13-part creative deathmatch between some of comics’ best. If you’re into ensemble violence and potential breakouts, this one reads like a roster of killer first appearances waiting to explode. Think Battle Royale meets Secret Wars—with more axes. Finally, Invincible Universe Battle Beast #1 gives fans what they’ve been demanding for years: a solo tale for one of the bloodiest, baddest bruisers in the Invincible Universe. Battle Beast isn’t here to save kittens—he wants to die gloriously in battle. This issue goes deep into his history and even teases possible new foes across the galaxy. Kirkman and Ottley are behind it, and it’s not just fan service—it’s a collector’s playground. Oh, and the blind bag gimmick? Some of the surprise issues aren’t even Battle Beast-related, so gamble wisely.
