Just a quick note regarding something from the speculative market that needs to be addressed. I saw this and had to share my thoughts because I see too many being swindled out of believing something that is simply a falsehood being driven by a market that needs to get with it a bit. This is one of the many reason the InvestComics website switched gears over the years and eventually arrived to a Trending brand. Comics can trend, but making stuff up to upsell is simply not a vehicle anyone should drive. Maybe I can make sense of it for you a bit. Maybe not. Maybe we can have an open discussion, like grown-ups on one of our social media pages. Weigh in and see what other collectors may think about this. A quick reminder, this is an opinion for MATURE readers, not fanboys with emotions that cannot read without formulating a solid foundation for an adult debate.
Please share this with your friends and others that have a rational sense of thinking. Be sure to let them know you have seen the light because of Trending Pop Culture if you agree.
Recently arrived from the Orlando MegaCon show and saw on a dealers table the Scooby Doo/Harley Quinn Team-Up comic with a yellow sticky that read ‘Rarest Harley Quinn appearance ever’. Priced at $30. This comic bears absolutely no significance at all in the grand scheme of collecting. It does not….at all. Zero. Let me break this down to you this way. Realize the ridiculousness of this sell…every single superhero or villain has a ‘rarest appearance’ leading up to their 352+ appearance (more on that in a moment). Every. Single. One. Thanos does. So does Deadpool. So does Starlord. So does Nightwing. And so on. Any hero or villain ever put to print has a comic that was the shortest print run during their tenure. It’s a FACT, no getting around this. Why are their RARE appearances not a ‘get’? Is it that the Scooby book sold 10k and the rarest Deadpool sold 12k? Seriously? You see how absurd this is? Please, utilize your monies and maximize it to the best of your capacity for your collection to be filled with tangible books. Wasteful spending on a 352nd appearance of a character as a ‘RARE’ appearance is not a good investment no matter how anyone wants to sell this. Yes, through calculation, counting Regular Quinn, Animated Quinn and Post Flashpoint Quinn, up until the 2015 release of the Scooby Doo Team-Up comic, she appeared in approximately 352 comics (More not counting some hard covers, TPB, reprints or various other continuities) to that 2015 appearance. That’s a whole lot of Quinn. So, what exactly is it with this comic (and countless others) that have so many in a tizzy? $30 well spent someplace else if you ask a true speculator. The Scooby Doo Team Up #12 is at a ‘Buy it Now’ price of $7.99 in some places on eBay. So many stuck on the high end with this comic, it’s not using your best judgement but following the madness of a website(s) or word of mouth.

Ant-Man hits this week with a few number one comics. Two that will trend are Ant-Man And The Wasp #1 from Mark Waid and Javier Garron and Ant-Man & The Wasp: Living Legends #1 from Ralph Macchio and Andrea Di Vito. Must be an Ant-Man movie coming out or something. Within the pages of Ant-Man & The Wasp: Living Legends #1 comes the reemergence of Living Eraser. A third-rate villain that first appeared back in 1963’s Tales To Astonish #49. Which also happens to be Giant-Man’s first appearance. The character quickly fell through the cracks to be revived in 1992 by John Byrne in Sensational She-Hulk #35. The ‘New’ Living Eraser! The crowd gasps! No, they don’t, but hey a great book coming from creative team Ralph Macchio and Andrea Di Vito? We’ll take that. And a new series from Mark Waid and Javier Garron? Yes, we’ll take that too. Thank you Marvel.
The Dazzler character has always been one of those characters to be on the cusp of something, but not quite sure what. Sort of like with Moon Knight, but more wonky. She’s appeared in countless comics throughout her storied career, but never managing to go next level. With the influx of the female heroes/villains making a major impact on the industry within the last decade or past few years, it’s no wonder we go back in time and grab Dazzler to try and make it work….once again. First appearance raw copies on eBay have sold between $40 – $80. An Uncanny X-Men #130 graded CGC 9.6 sold for $130 two months ago. Not that much demand in the open market there. But, that doesn’t mean writer Magdalene Visaggio and artist Laura Braga will not take Dazzler X Song #1 to a new era of interest on new comic book day. It’s a different market these days for the female character. Let the interest spark you, buy a copy, check it out.
Deadpool #1 will be the sixth volume with a number one issue attached to it. Too many restarts? Probably yes, but fans eat this stuff up. Making a new Deadpool series with the number ONE in the upper left-hand corner someplace is like printing money for Marvel. Add in super creative talents like Skottie Young, Scott Hepburn and Nic Klein, you have more of a reason to want this comic upon its release. Some of the many, many variants are already sold out. Remember, as its been said on here for years and years. The guts are the same (inside of the comic), don’t overpay for ONE page that’s different (cover).
Mark Waid is a busy guy these days. A new Doctor Strange series. Doctor Strange #1 Writer Mark Waid artist Jesus Saiz.
For a long time, It was written on this site about the title ‘Totally Awesome Hulk’ as a big downer for the book itself as for any potential first time reader for the comic. The comic was good, but the title was atrocious. Eventually Marvel saw the harm this approach was producing and finally that title went away. This Wednesday, a more ‘mature’ approach from Marvel; The Immortal Hulk #1 from writer Al Ewing and artist Joe Bennett. This is good. Very good. And the comic will hammer out some fantastic Hulk tales with this creative team on board. Looking forward to this.

Superstar writer Scott Snyder brings his stardom to another Justice League relaunch. Justice League #1 with writer Scott Snyder and artist Jim Cheung. A few variants of course accompany this release, but the Jim Lee Batman cover is just….okay. Nothing really jumping out here.
Speaking of Batman, Deathstroke and Bats keep up the fight in Deathstroke #32. Part three Batman vs. Deathstroke.
Have you seen the new Nightwing #45 cover? The John Romita Jr. cover will draw the ire of some. Maybe. We’ll see if this trends because of the graphic nature of it. Maybe it’s nothing too. We’ll see.

About Betty’s Boob

Click on the RED links, Images, comic covers/items to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay

Trending Pop Culture Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
An interesting comic from Boom Studios this Wednesday. Not only for it’s interesting title (a snicker will occur when seeing it), but because of its content. About Betty’s Boob is a realistic/comic book approach unto a particular female (Betty) who loses her left breast to cancer, but also loses her boyfriend, her job, her will, but things are lining up for Betty as the day is lining up to become the best day of her life according to writer Vero Cazot and artist Julie Rocheleau. This hard cover will be an interesting read indeed and should be beckoned as a film if someone wants to make a movie about awareness, perseverance and the will to overcome any obstacle thrown your way in life. Hopefully a comic book form of this hard cover reaches stores someday, but this Wednesday, buy the hardcover and read About Betty’s Boob.
For some reason Spawn #286 will be arriving to local comic shops with eight (at last count) variant covers. All covers are Todd McFarlane team-ups with other industry artist. Most of the covers are sold out already. Why the influx of variants here is a bit perplexing. Is there a major storyline happening here? Something…? Anything? Either way, some of these cool covers will be trending across your social media page shortly.
Brother Nash #1 (Titan Books) from Bridgit O’Connell is sold out.
Vagrant Queen #1 (Vault Comics); Magdalene Visaggio and Jason Smith. Sold out.
John Byrnes Stowaway To The Stars #1 Special Edition (IDW); All John Byrne stuff and a new John Byrne story!

Marvel Comics still refuses to put the Fantastic Four back together in a comic book due to their little beef with Fox, but with the recent “almost acquisition” of Disney taking over the Fox Studios (characters), things will and could change rather quick. With that, in perfect synchronicity, Marvel joins TWO of the FOUR in Marvel Two-In-One #1 this Wednesday. Torch and Thing star. Writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Jim Cheung. The original 4 getting together again is not that far behind, especially with the new deal so close. As for the Marvel-Two-In-One series. The original series debuted back 1974 starring the Thing in every issue. Much like the Fantastic Four series, the series waned on (early issues) without much fanfare (except the Byrne run). The highlight of the 1974 Marvel-Two-In-One series came in Marvel-Two-In-One Annual #2 (1977). Thanos’ death, Avengers appearance, Spider-Man appearance, Infinity Stone and a Jim Starlin cover.
Loki is still Sorcerer Supreme and Doctor Strange is having all kinds of problems trying to contain him. In Doctor Strange #383, Strange summons for help when he goes to Asgard. Marvel wants to surprise us with the guest star; Loki: Sorcerer Supreme part 3.
Ms. Marvel #25 begins a new story line; Teenage Wasteland part 1. Creators; G. Willow Wilson and Nico Leon.
A new X-Men series; X-Men: Grand Design #1 from creator Ed Piskor.
The secret origin of Jagger Rose in The United States of Murder Inc. Annual #1. Creators; Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.
Spider-Gwen #27 continues the hot Gwenom story; Gwenom part 3.

Writers Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason, along with artists Doug Mahnke and Jamie Mendoza bring the first two parts of a multi-crossover on new comic book day; “Super Sons Of Tomorrow.” The four-part story will take place in Teen Titans, Super Sons and Superman. With this creative firepower on-board, we’re looking forward to this mini-event, you should too. Superman #37 (part 1) and Super Sons #11 (part 2).
Trinity #16 sees Deadshot making an unexpected appearance. The Phillip Tan Deadshot cover is on point too. As always, the case with a Phillip Tan cover.
Aquaman #31 may introduce some new character(s) at the beginning of a new story arc; “Take Back the Throne” part one or throughout the story. Keep an eye out if you’re looking for new players. Dan Abnett writes, art by Stjepan Sejic.

Valiant Entertainment explodes out of the gate with their new Quantum & Woody #1 release this Wednesday. A few ultra-rare variants accompany the release, but it’s the super variant cover comic known as “The Most Variant Cover Of All Time” that gets our attention. According to Valiant, this comic will feature chromium, lenticular, embossing, die-cutting, iridescent ink, glow-in-the-dark and more. The cover will be by artist Clayton Henry. Besides the greatest marketing variant cover of all-time, the new Quantum & Woody on-going will be the best indie title to hit this week. It will be a title to follow thereafter. Written by Daniel Kibblesmith and art from Kano.
Mike Mignola and Adam Hughes deliver fans a new Hellboy story; Hellboy Krampusnacht #1. Mignola and Hughes? Oh heck yes, we are so there.

We usually cover the independent comics after the Marvel and DC Hot Picks, but this week we’re going to lead with an indie that needs your attention. Archie Comics relaunched many of their Archie comic series’ back a couple of years ago with the thought in mind to bring the ‘realistic’ type feel into the books. Gone away is the campy vibe. Many of the Archie comics in the past few years have not been for the younger audience, but they still do have their digest and other kid friendly books. However, this Wednesday’s Archie #22 will tell the tale of a death in the family. A Riverdale character will leave us. This isn’t Archie dying in some dream sequence, this is a character getting written off. Expect media coverage of this book and an immediate bump in the aftermarket here. More importantly, expect a somber, well thought out story from Mark Waid (art by Pete Woods). Get this comic quick, it’ll head to a second printing in a hurry.

Will readers finally get a little more insight into Harley’s parents in Harley Quinn #24? The last (and only) time we visited the family of Harley was back in Gotham City Sirens #7 (2010). That issue was the first appearance of Harley’s mother, dad and brother. This comic is only $10 on Ebay right now. Now that we mentioned it, expect it to bounce a bit again. And how long before DC capitalizes Harley’s brother as a bad guy that teams up with his sister or better yet, a super-hero going against his sister. Maybe a whole family affair with mom and dad too. The Harley Family…..the possibility of any of this is there and will probably come to fruition someday. Just give us credit for giving you a heads up, don’t be knucklehead and take credit for this.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Dolphin made her post New 52 debut in Aquaman #25 last month. She graces the cover of Aquaman #26 this Wednesday. Fans last saw Dolphin in Blackest Night #8 (2010) before popping up in last month’s Aquaman issue. Dolphin first appeared in Showcase #79 (1968).
Batman ’66 Meets The Legion of Super Heroes #1 – Lee Allred & Michael Allred.
Learn the ‘Injustice’ origin of Supergirl in Injustice 2 #6. Tom Taylor and Mike Miller.

Justice League United #15 will team 4 groups together for the first time in one book. Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, Creature Commandos, and OMAC. Great reading here!

Speaking of a great read, check out Superman American Alien #1. This comic will have writer Max Landis teaming with several of the industries superstars for a seven issue series chronicling Clark Kent as a youngster and then working all the way up to Superman. The series is said to be a look as we’ve never seen before, so we are excited. The first issue will be illustrated by Nick Dragotta of East of West. Fantastic Ryan Sook cover too.

Vertigo’s new mini-series; Slash and Burn #1 should be on your reading list this week.

Not too sure how the conservatives or politically correct will handle the title of the new Image Comic; The Goddamned #1. Writer Jason Aaron probably has a hit book here regardless of what anyone thinks. Jock supplies a cool variant.

Miles Morales will join the All new all different Avengers #1. Lets see how he is as a full time team player. Written by Mark Waid and drawn by Adam Kubert. The Jim Cheung hip hop cover is our favorite. This series will do well.

All new Wolverine #1 will have X-23 as the main character. Her first appearance was in NYX #3 (2004). X-23 was hot for a while there a few years back. She cooled off and then she fell into obscurity. Not anymore! The regular cover and the hip hop variant are the best covers.

Welcome to Marvel’s INFINITY!

This Summer The Biggest Comic Book Event Of 2013 Reaches All Corners of the Marvel Universe!

Infinity_FreeComicBookDay_CoverNew York, NY—April 1st, 2013—Earth has been marked as an “Avengers World”, protected by Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and more from the deadliest threats facing humanity. A powerful and destructive race is on a collision course with Earth and the only thing in their path is the Avengers! But even Earth’s Mightiest Heroes realize the one hope of defeating this dire threat is to unite every great hero across the cosmos…because only with a united AvengersUniverse is there any chance of survival!

With our heroes at the other end of the universe, who is left to protect Earth? Enter Thanos, the galaxy’s most ruthless threat and an unparalleled force of brutality who brings order to the chaos of life through murder. The greatest threat to the Mad Titan’s work—and perhaps the universe’s greatest hope—is something he created leaving no world safe. Earth’s last hope may lie in the hands of a man who can level cities with a single whisper – Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans. But can the fearsome leader of a race hated and feared by his world,  lead his people against Thanos? If they fall, so does the Earth—and the entire universe with it.

The Biggest Heroes.  The Biggest Threats. The Biggest Sacrifices. This is Marvel’sINFINITY.

Written by New York Times best-selling writer Jonathan Hickman (Avengers,Avengers VS. X-Men) and illustrated by superstars Jim Cheung (Avengers: Children’s Crusade) Jerome Opena (Avengers,Uncanny X-Force), and Dustin Weaver (Avengers, Uncanny X-Men), Infinityis a six issue comic book event debuting in August with an oversized first issue.

“Events stories simply don’t come bigger than Infinity,” said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. “ Jonathan Hickman is joined by three of our top artists — Jim Cheung, Jerome Opena and Dustin Weaver — to deliver an epic tale that covers all corners of the Marvel Universe and narrows the gap between Earth and the cosmos like never before.  It’s called the ‘MarvelUniverse‘ for a reason.”

Infinity_Preview1Readers get their first look at Marvel’s Infinity for free on Saturday, May 4th as part of Free Comic Book Day withFCBD: Infinity. In this all-new story by the blockbuster creative team of Jonathan Hickman and Jim Cheung, witness the opening shots of the war that will be heard around the galaxy. Plus, relive Thanos’ first solo story which has never been reprinted till now!

“I’m very excited about Infinity for a number of reasons,” said Hickman. “First, I think it’s wonderful that the story is coming organically out of what’s been going on duringMarvel NOW!. Things that we’ve seen unfold in Avengers, New Avengers,Thanos Rising, Guardians of the Galaxy, and others are the catalyst forInfinity. And second, for me personally, Infinity is the first big step in a series of big steps that make up the long term plans for the Avengers books I have the privilege of writing. It should be a lot of fun.”

Every issue of Infinity includes a code for a free digital copy of that same comic on theMarvel Comics app for iOS and Android devices. Additionally, each issue ofInfinity features special augmented reality content available exclusive through theMarvel AR app – including cover recaps, behind the scenes features and more that add value to your reading experience at no additional cost.

So is the fact that last Sunday InvestComics informed you guys/gals that East of West #1 is a not to miss book. Yes, listen to the Broker when he tells you about the certainties in the collectors market. It’ll do your wallet some good. So getting back to Thanos now, if you ever doubted anything in the speculation market, this one would not be the one to doubt. If you don’t own or are thinking about owning Iron Man #55, stop thinking and do it. I cannot stress enough how much Thanos is going to make an impact on the movie side of things. The best comparison to make here is actually quite simple. Thanos will be the modern day Darth Vader. I have said this before and I will keep saying it. Thanos’ impact in the theaters will directly impact the back issue market. This said, this week Thanos Rising (2013) #1 will be altering the Marvel Universe as we know it. Yes that villain Thanos is going to bring it and you better be ready. This dude is a bad ass.

…..More certainties this week; Harbinger Wars (2013) #1. This comic will be a quick sell out, so you better grab one off the shelf before they disappear.

Superior Spider-Man (2012) #7 will see the return of Cardiac. The first appearance of Cardiac came in Amazing Spider-Man #342. Want to feel old? This comic was penciled by Erik Larsen 23 years ago!! 1990….23 years ago!! Wow.

DC Comics celebrates with a special issue of Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #19. “Mystery of the 900!” Umm, okay.

….More certainties this week; Regular Show #1. This book will be harder to find than any other in the aftermarket for cover price after Wednesday. Yep.

So with Venom (2011 Marvel) #33 we get the ol’ homage cover thingy going. Isn’t that nice? One little thing here though. Spawn #222 a few issues ago did the same exact thing. Two comics in such close proximity of each other paying homage to Todd McFarlane’s (paid himself homage; he’s proud of himself) Amazing Spider-Man #316. Click on the collage below to see a bigger image of all 3 covers side by side. Which one do you like best?

Venom

Okay so wrapping up. How about a bunch of number one and number zero issues to look out for? Miss Fury (2013 Dynamite) #1 (Look at that cover – holy assets Batman!), Robyn Hood vs Red Riding Hood (2013 Zenescope) #1, Steam Wars (2013 Antarctic Press) #0 (interesting concept here, Star Wars theme = sold out), Tales of Fear (2013 Aazurn) #1, Unleashed (2013 Zenescope) #0, Snow Angel (2013 Dark Horse) #0, Last of Us American Dreams (2013 Dark Horse) #1, andPolarity (2013 Boom) #1.

Spider-Man Meets Spider-Man In Landmark SPIDER-MEN

Spider-Man Meets Spider-Man In Landmark SPIDER-MEN
Peter Parker and Miles Morales Meet For The First Time in June
New York, NY-April 11, 2012-This June, it’s time for Peter Parker, better known as the Amazing Spider-Man, to cross worlds and meet Miles Morales…the all-new Spider-Man? Marvel is proud to announce Spider-Men, an all-new five issue landmark story from award-winning author Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers VS. X-Men, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man), red-hot artist Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) and acclaimed cover artist Jim Cheung (Avengers VS. X-Men), which brings Peter Parker and Miles Morales together for the first time. That’s right, the Spider-Man from two different realities-the Marvel Universe and Ultimate Comics Universe-bring their worlds together for a battle no one web-head could win!
When Spider-Man tracks down one of his deadliest villains, he suddenly finds himself thrust into another world where Peter Parker is dead…and there’s a new Spider-Man in town. As these two heroes learn the truth about their identities and their universes, they’ll embark on a journey that’ll leave them forever changed-and reveal a startling truth about a key player in the Spider-Man mythos!

“This year is the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man and we’re so happy that the stars aligned for us to tell a Spider-Man story that nobody has ever seen before,” said Bendis. “It’s an honor and a privilege to present both this story and these characters to fans on such an auspicious occasion. The work Sara has done on Spider-Men is a step above the
already high standard that she has set for herself on our Ultimate Comics Spider-Man series. For me, this is a celebration of the best character in mainstream comics and some of the best art mainstream comics has to offer.”

Each issue of Spider-Men features variants covers by some of the biggest names in comics including Humberto Ramos  (Amazing Spider-Man), Mike Deodato (New Avengers), Marcos Martin (Amazing Spider-Man), Terry Dodson (Avenging Spider-Man), Travis Charest (Captain America) and Sara Pichelli. “Knowing how much Brian loves and respects Spider-Man, there’s no way I wouldn’t want to work on Spider-Men with him,” said Sara Pichelli. “It’s going to be an explosive celebration of Spider-Man’s 50th anniversary-are you ready?”

In 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15, the world first met Peter Parker and saw him become the hero Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe. Soon after, Spider-Man became a pop culture sensation, launching multiple television series, blockbuster films and some of the most popular comics of all time. Then in 2011, Marvel introduced Miles Morales, a new character of African American and Hispanic descent, who became Spider-Man in the Ultimate Comics Universe after that world’s Peter Parker perished.

“This is one of the biggest stories in Marvel history,” said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. “Peter Parker and Miles Morales are two of our most popular characters and fans have been clamoring for them to meet-we’ve got quite a few surprises in store for both characters. This is only the beginning of how we’re celebrating Spider-Man’s spectacular 50th Anniversary.”

This June, swing into action with world’s most amazing super heroes in Spider-Men #1.
