September Mourning #1 – This Image Comic is sold out at the distributor. Writers Mariah McCourt – Emily Lazar. Art by Sumeyye Kesgin. Marc Silvestri cover.
Crosswind #1 – Writer Gail Simone and artist Cat Staggs bring this unique story where a ‘slick and ruthless hitman’ and a ‘downtrodden Seattle housewife’ somehow trade their bodies/minds/souls with each other. Gail Simone will deliver….as she always does.
Batman #24 – A second print arrives as a third print waits in the wings. The cover gives the entire element of surprise away if you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what’s going on.
Weapons of Mutant Destruction #1 – We probably jumped the gun prematurely in out Hot Picks #480 post regarding claws on the Hulk debuting. It probably doesn’t happen right away. It’s probably a big build up, but that said, it’s still a cool story to follow up to that point we see a very angry Hulk with Wolverine claws. Writer Greg Pak knows how to tell a Hulk tale (see Planet Hulk).
Spider-Man 2099 #24 – A new Spider-Man debuts.

Fans love number one comics and the big two know it. Another restart Spidey series. Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1, written by Chip Zdarsky and art by Adam Kubert. This series promises to bring aboard new characters, so be on alert for any breakouts. The Adam Kubert cover draws a great comparison to DC’s The Man Of Steel #1 John Byrne cover.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Staying on topic about Spidey, Spider-Man 2099 #24 will introduce a new Spider-Man. Brought to us by writer Peter David and artist Will Sliney.
When Marvel teased the cover to Weapons of Mutant Destruction #1 with the Hulk and his adamantium claws a while back, fanboys lost their minds. Now the fanboys and comic fans will finally get to read what writer Greg Pak will be bringing to the table this Wednesday. The anticipation is high and Greg Pak is a very reliable deliverer of a solid story, so we’re confident we’ll all be extremely satisfied after we read it. The art by Mahmad A. Asrar helps the cause here too.

Do you know that Marvel writer Charles Soule is a lawyer in real life? Like a real life bonafide lawyer guy, but he writes funny books instead. Talk about a love for your craft. Anyway, it’s only fitting that he writes a comic about a blind vigilante super-hero lawyer. Writer Charles Soule has been turning the Daredevil series on its proverbial head. If you haven’t caught this monthly, you really need to check it out. This Wednesday in Daredevil #22, Charles puts Matt Murdock on the witness stand. Read the lawyer verbiage fly around from the pen (computer finger type) and the mouth of Matt Murdock as he’s sworn in.

Secret Empire: Brave New World #2 introduces the All-New Patriot.
Darth Vader #2 continues to follow Anakin Skywalker in this ‘Year One’ type story for the beloved villain. Anakin begins to learn the way of the Order from Palpatine; aka Darth Sidious. Palpatine’s first appearance is shared by Boba Fett’s first comic appearance in Star Wars #42, 37 years ago.

Two comic covers we’d like to point out that caught our attention. Doctor Strange #22 cover from Chris Bachalo borrows from Skottie Young’s What If? Venom/Deadpool from 2011. Russel Dauterman with his homage cover on The Mighty Thor #20 to Walt Simsonson’s Thor #337 from 1983. We know these covers have been done time and time again, especially the Thor cover, but it’s still nice to see so many artists offering their take at classics and always recognizing the original artist in that way.
More Mary Jane covers this week from Marvel. Four of them appear in this article.

Batman #24 sold out in a hurry last week once the media spread the news regarding the major plotline that took place inside the pages. If you don’t know what exactly took place, then maybe you shouldn’t look at the second print cover coming out this week. Major spoiler alert right there…..on the cover. The comic only came out last week, so we hope you know by now, because if you don’t, you know now. With the second print cover will come Batman #25. The new storyline ‘The War of Jokes and Riddles’ part one. Do the major events from last issue have a tie-in somehow? We have to wait and see.

DC releases more Looney Tunes team-up craziness this week. We like this match-up; Lobo Road Runner #1. We’re guessing the Road Runner makes a fool of Lobo time and time again. Too bad Lobo, you aren’t catching the Road Runner. No one does.

Capes 1

IC 100 Club Pick – Capes #1 (2003) – Click to Buy Now

NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

This week’s IC 100 Club Pick is Capes #1 (Image Comics 2003). By now just about everyone knows what this comic holds. Especially Walking Dead fans. For those of you who don’t know, here it is. The Walking Dead #1 comic came out in October of 2003. Capes #1 came out one month prior. In the Capes #1 comic contained a 5 page preview of The Walking Dead #1. So in essences, the first Walking Dead to ever see print was Capes #1, not The Walking Dead #1. So what does this mean exactly? Well not much to the collectors (slab/graders) market because it’s not recognized as THE first appearance of this title. Why is that you ask? No idea. Sometimes the grading companies are very funny with what is what, but the truth and fact is that The Walking Dead comic first appeared in Cape #1, regardless if it was only 5 pages. It predates the first issue, end of story. It’s not an image, a teaser, a blurb, a mention, an ad, no it’s the actual first five pages of The Walking Dead before the number one issue came out. So with that, if you’re a true Walking Dead fan and think you may want a collectible, this is it. $100 and free shipping.

InvestComics already covered the comic we’re about to write about for speculators on the InvestComics Facebook page a while ago, but we’ll go over it here for those who missed any of it. Marvel releases Deadpool Mercs For Money #1 this Wednesday. In this new series fans will get look at the team made up of; Foolkiller, Stingray, Solo, Massacre, Terror, and Slapstick. ALL of these characters have the potential of blowing up. Deadpool can jump-start any one of these characters to a new life. Maybe their new journey starts here? Maybe not, but all of these characters’ first appearances are very affordable, so why wouldn’t a speculator take a chance here and buy some cool comics at affordable pricing? Great stories and potential hot commodities await you. Read comics……Invest wisely!

Let’s start with the team itself. The Mercs for Money all appeared together for the first time in Deadpool Vol 4 #1 (2015).

Foolkiller’s very first appearance was in Man-Thing #3 (1974). Although an awesome book, we look to the third Foolkiller character because that’s the one on this particular team. Kurt Gerhardt (Foolkiller 3) first appeared in Foolkiller #1 (1990). This Foolkiller 10 issue series was hot for a minute, but then no more. These days however, if he catches on, no telling what could happen. The same goes for all of these second rate comic characters.
The character Terror first appeared in the 1941, used very sparingly, but we’re going to fast forward a bit to 1988 to St. George #2 from Epic Comics (Marvel Comics imprint). Here we have the Terror character being used in today’s modern era. An obscure odd title you’d probably be hard pressed to find, but a book needed in your collection. The great Klaus Janson pencils this first appearance.
Stingray first appearance was in The Sub Mariner #19 (1969). Maybe an appearance in the Sub-Mariner movie if that ever gets off the ground.
Also debuting in a 19th issue was Solo. He first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #19 (1986). Marc Silvestri pencils this issue. This comic is also the debut of Humbug.
Massacre first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #655 (2011).
Finally, there is Marvel’s answer to the Joker. His name is Slapstick. His first appearance was in Slapstick #1 (1992). Imagine if Marvel ever made this third rate character into something that rivaled the Joker. Granted, nothing Marvel can ever do to get close to an equivalent Joker type character, but Disney is capable of doing whatever the hell they please, so never doubt them. So any fanboy reading this, relax. We’re not saying Marvel will ever rival the Joker type character, just a fantasy thought process. Speculators should get on this just in case though. Never know!

Although the Marvel solicit makes it seem as though Emerald Warlock will first appear in Scarlet Witch #3 this Wednesday, he actually first appeared in Uncanny Avengers Annual #1.

Neal Adams lends his legendary status to a bunch of DC variants this week. Here’s a quick list of his incredible covers;

Vet Tix: Eddie Rausch

Vet_TixWho and what  is Vet Tix? Their Mission:

Giving Something to Those Who Gave.

Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) provides FREE event tickets to family members of troops Killed In Action (K.I.A.), our Military and Veterans to sporting events, concerts, performing arts and family activities. Attending these events reduces stress through entertainment, strengthens family bonds, builds life long memories and encourages service members to stay engaged with American life and local communities. Giving free event tickets is an expression of appreciation, acknowledgement and an enduring symbol that we, as a nation, honor the service of our troops today and long after their tour of duty has passed. Helping our veterans attend events provides positive family and life experiences after their years of service to our country.

….And with that, a one on one chat with the COO of Vet Tix, Mr. Eddie Rausch. (Please note: Click on any of the covers in this article to see a full image)

Jay Katz: Thank you so much for stopping by Eddie. With great humility Eddie, I want to tell you that InvestComics supports Vet Tix and your cause with great respect.

Eddie Rausch: Thank you for the kind words Jay. Vet Tix appreciates the support you and InvestComics provides our mission.

JK: Why did you decide to start Vet Tix? What compelled you to begin such a tremendous project?

ER: It all started at the 2008 Super Bowl. Two of our other Founders were attending (one U.S. Navy Veteran and the other USMC Veteran) and had a buddy that was part of the pre-game color guard. They learned that once the pre-game ended the color guard were not able to stay and watch the Super Bowl…they were escorted out of the stadium. The entire game the seat next to them sat empty. This seat, this ticket could have been donated so that one of the members of the color guard could have enjoyed the game. The idea was born right there. As soon as I was asked my thoughts about it a day later I was “IN”…thought it was an amazing idea. We have been moving full speed ahead ever since.

JK: Who has come on board to contribute to Vet Tix so far?

ER: If you asking about sports teams then pretty much all of MLB with the exception of 2 teams. Each year we partner with more and more Universities and Bowl Games…last season we distributed tickets to 26 Bowl Games including Fiesta Bowl, Sugar, Bowl, Orange Bowl, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowl. The list really goes on and on including other sports (NBA, NHL, MLS, Minor League Baseball), concerts such as Kenny Chesney, George Strait and a number of music festivals, family events like Disney on Ice and Ringling Brothers, to Broadway plays and even seasonal events like haunted houses and the Polar Express train. If there is a ticket to an event we will accept it and get it distributed to our veterans for use with their families. Later this month we will hit ticket number One Million!!

Lady Death Vet Tix Blank CoverJK: Recently many comic book fans learned about comic book artist Brian Pulido teaming up with Vet Tix. How will Brian contribute?

ER: Brian is absolutely awesome in his support of Vet Tix! Lady Death is his baby…in all reality she is his daughter and he has allowed Vet Tix to be a special part of her 20th Anniversary. He has given Vet Tix permission to reprint issue #1, the one that started it all, and put a blank cover on it stating this is the “Vet Tix Edition” with our logo on the rear cover. We are now working off of a list put together by Brian and myself to secure artists that will create their vision of Lady Death on these 50 covers.

JK: Which creators have come on board so far? Can you share any covers yet or are they still a work in progress?

ER: We have a great list going with more to come…names like Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, Brandon Peterson, Frank Cho, Leinil Frances Yu, Jay Anacleto, Philip Tan, Carlo Pagulayan, Clayton Crain, Kenneth Rocafort, Arthur Adams, Ivan Reis, Humberto Ramos, Mark Brooks, Agnes Garbowska, Billy Tucci, Tim Vigil and Peter Steigerwald. We also have some great new artists that are really turning in some amazing work as well. Artists like Sajad Shah, Dawn McTeigue, Siya Oum, Mike Krome, Jesse Winchman, Jenevieve Broomall, Jaime Tyndall, Mike DeBalfo, Jonathan Marks, Jason Metcalf, Conny Valentina, Sarah Giardina, Alan Quah, Thony Silas and Rian Gonzales. I do not evny the fans that will need to choose between all of these covers…they truly are incredible!!

Marc Silvestri

Billy Tucci

JK: Brian Pulido is an extremely approachable creator. Any fan that visits a convention knows this. He’s a tremendous talent. What was Brian’s initial response when you approached him regarding a possible project for Vet Tix?

ER: I have known Brian for some time now and for the past few years he has reached out to me/Vet Tix to see how he could support. He has donated back issues to be shipped to our deployed troops and he has started a “Tip Jar” at his table. He will sign all the books a fan wants all he asks is that they donate to the tip jar. These funds at each convention will go to either Vet Tix or Heroes Initiative.

Leinil Francis YuWhen this idea for a blank cover project came up he thought it was perfect timing to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Lady Death and loved the idea. As much as this is an AMAZING way for Vet Tix to raise funds and grant “Hero’s Wishes” I think Brian also enjoys seeing how each artist sees his character. Who knows, maybe we will see more Lady Death from some of these artists now that they have had a chance to draw her and Brian has seen what they can do!

JK: Okay so all 50 comics will be CGC Signature Series graded. Besides being completely awesome, how did you get CGC on board too?

ER: Things just seem to fall in place with CGC. One of our followers on the Facebook event page has a connection high up with CGC. He reached out to me and suggested I call this contact. I did, explained the project and it was a done deal. I was told to send all the completed covers in at once and to mark them to HIS attention and CGC would make certain this books would be made a priority in turn around time. It helps to have fans that also believe in your mission!!

JK: Where can collectors bid on the CGC Lady Death Artist Project once they are done?

ER: Vet Tix has an eBay seller’s account. We have gone through the process of being vetted by them so we can auction the items and any fees that would normally be charged are returned to us due to our status as a 501c3 non profit organization. I would suggest anyone interested add “vet-tix” to their favorite sellers list.

They may also join the event page on Facebook, search Lady Death Artist Project benefiting Vet Tix – Hero’s Wish. On this event page we will post work in progress pics, completed cover pics and add the live links to the eBay auction for each and every cover!

Jay AnacletoJK: Do you have any other creator projects after Brian Pulido’s Lady Death Project that you can tell us about?

ER: WE do!! On the heels of the Lady Death project we will also be doing a similar blank cover project with Billy Tucci for the 20th Anniversary of “Shi, Way of the Warrior”. Our goal is to be able to collect these completed covers and display at either Baltimore or New York Comic Con this fall. There is also an event page on Facebook for this project.

Clayton CrainJK: Are you a comic book collector??

ER: I did collect comics for a number of years, have long box after long box in my collection. I still do a little now, trying to put together a run of Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men 1-100 together, but in 2008 things changed for me when Michael turner passed away from his long battle with cancer. I realized I collected the comic books for the art and began collecting Original Art from those artist I admire.

JK: Please tell everyone where they can go to make a donation, contribute, or become part of the cause.

ER: It is simple, go to www.VetTix.org. Here you can donate tickets and/or money, become verified in our system if you have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or if you are primary next of kin to killed in action and begin making use of the service we provide.

JK: Thank you so much for your time Eddie. Your foundation is an amazing tribute to the men and women who serve this great country of ours. It was an honor. Thank you.

ER: Thank you Jay. What we do here at Vet Tix is a true pleasure and an HONOR. Not many people get to do what they love on a day to day basis but I can tell you the staff here at Vet Tix absolutely loves being able to create opportunities for our veterans to make memories with their families that will last a lifetime. Some of my strongest memories from my childhood are from going to baseball games with my father when he was on leave from his service in Vietnam and I want to be able to give Jenevieve BroomallMike Krome

Okay, so let’s talk about some comics……

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release 10-30-13

[scrollGallery id=316]

There was a comic book run that basically changed the landscape of comic books as we know them some 24 years ago. That comic book run was DC’s (Vertigo) Sandman from 1989. The ebb and flow of storytelling in comic books were changed forever in 1989. This was due for the reason of one man, Neil Gaiman. Neil is a storyteller; he has a pulse on what the reader yearns for. He sets moods, changes, flow and so much more. There are not enough words to describe this man’s legendary status. And quite frankly he doesn’t need words; he’s done enough for himself to establish his legend status in the comic book genre and in the publishing world as well. This week Neil visits familiar territory. Yes that’s right you guessed it, Sandman. Sandman Overture (2013) #1 will probably not break new ground, but what it will do is spark the interest of readers and collectors alike. Then again, maybe it will break new ground? Who knows with Mr. Gaiman? Here’s the nuts and bolts here folks, DC has spoken of Vertigo titles making it onto the big screen for a while now. What better way to start than right here, with Neil Gaiman’s Sandman? There have been many predictions within the InvestComics Hot Picks that have come to fruition (some not too), but to say that Sandman will definitely make it to a movie theater is not that far of a stretch, but it WILL happen. Sandman will become a film one day, and not only will it be spectacular, it will send the aftermarket into an absolute frenzy. This is why a collector should be on top on the 1989 Sandman #1 comic right now. Another book to be on top of is the Sandman Overture #1 variant from Dave McKean, a cool $125 for that variant, but can easily double with a 9.8 grade, and triple with a signature series. Not only will the Sandman Overture #1 heighten the interest of the already famous 1989 book, the movie to come will catapult it even more so. Thank me later. Don’t forget to let everyone know that InvestComics alerted you out on this one.

The recent “demise” of Damian was short lived and now the character has his own book coming out! Death in comics really doesn’t mean much, but you know this already. Anyways, Damian Son of Batman (2013) #1 will bring back the son of Bruce for a limited series, and then for sure a regular series down the line we’re guessing. Whether you’re a fan or not of the Damian character, one will have to stand up a bit and pay attention here. The character is a hot commodity, the collector should embrace this. The reader should just ignore him if they aren’t interested. The collector’s battle over the true first appearance of Damian rages on behind the scenes, but here’s the skinny. The only true answer lies within the money if you’re a speculator. The birth of Damian happened in Batman: Son of a Demon #1 in 1988 (not in DC continuity? Then maybe it is?), but according to the folks at CGC, they say that Batman #655 (2006) is the recognized cameo of Damian. The first full appearance of Damian is Batman #656. So with that, regardless of how the argument may want to flow, CGC is setting the precedence on the Batman comics #655 and #656 as the cameo and first, and this is where the money is going to be found because of the little inscription on the top of the casing. Buy the first Damian. It’s an uptick comic for years to come. Oh yes, one last thing. Pick up the Damian Son of Batman #1 Andy Kubert sketch variant at $60, grade it make money, simple as that. And finally from DC Comics this week, Forever Evil Argus (2013) #1 is sold out. The Forever Evil campaign continues to kill it on the shelves, well semi-disappear really. As the previous InvestComics Hot Picks have stated with the Forever Evil storyline, unless there is a major holy sh*t moment that really takes the genre by surprise, there will be no redeeming value (speculator) in any of the Forever Evil titles down the line. The true redeeming value here is a fantastic storyline.

Damian first appearance

Marvel Comics stays busy this week with comics like Captain America Living Legend (2013) #2. This book will introduce an alien like thing. Not sure exactly what, but check it out. And look at that awesome cover too! Dan Slott promises that the new Superior Spider-Man (2012) #20 will seriously shake things up. As if things haven’t been shaken already?! Be sure to grab a copy to see how things are playing out. Another shake up looks to be occurring in Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #8. Peter Quill will betray the entire Marvel Universe? Okay we’re interested. Cataclysm (2013 Marvel) #0.1 would be nice to write about, but the Marvel solicit is “classified”. The variant is sold out though, know that much! The new Bryan J.L. Glass Thor Crown of Fools (2013) #1 will be sold out on Thursday. Be sure to have your copy in hand or in your pull box.

Ash and the Army of Darkness return this week in Ash and the Army of Darkness (2013) #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. Talks of a new movie will boost interest for the original Ash and the Army of Darkness #1 from 1992. That’s 21 years ago. Feel old yet? The comic is mostly sold out across the board. Archie Comics had a huge success with the recent Archie zombie book Afterlife with Archie #1 (InvestComics informed that you’d get the variants, hope you did!). So what’s next to come you may ask? How about Fox (2013 Red Circle) #1? Yep, the Fox is running amuck and its best you catch it! Preferably the variant! Fox #1 is another hot comic folks. Don’t believe it? Check by Friday and see if there are any variants left for you. Oh yes, check Ebay on those, they’ll be over there probably. Incidentally, in case anyone is interested. Fox first appeared in Blue Ribbon Comics #4 way back in 1940. Good luck ever seeing that comic in your lifetime in near mint condition or in your lifetime period. There are a few comics that should be on your radar due to the low number left or their sold out status. Wildwork (2013 Antarctic Press) #1, Adventure Time Spoooktacular (2013) #1,and Wilder (2013 Monsterverse) #0.

Amazing artist Marc Silvestri pays homage to himself this week with the cover on Witchblade (1995) #170. If the cover doesn’t ring a bell (How could it not??!!), it’s original concept cover was featured on the Uncanny X-Men #251 with Wolverine stuck on the X and not a W. Awesome cover on both Marc!! See below to marvel in the beauty.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to share InvestComics across the social media because not only is it cool to do, but you can win some awesome prizes too! Batman The Dark Knight #23.4 Joker’s Daughter #1 SIGNED by artist Georges Jeanty and Excalibur #1 SIGNED by legend Chris Claremont!!

DaredevilYou hear that? You hear the screams in the distance? The whining? The crumbling of the walls? The collective sigh?

The internet may have finally broken. Yes Ben Affleck will be the new Batman in the Superman vs. Batman film. The simple answer to this news? So what? The drama has gotten to such a fever pitch that there is actually a petition to sign to have Mr. Affleck removed from the film. Really?? Is this so important that it warrants this type of dramatic reaction? Everyone really needs to calm down, seriously……

With all of the negative publicity that the news has received, InvestComics has taken the “Team Ben” approach. We love the underdog! So with that comes a fun Facebook page that is called Affleck as Batman I’m with Team Ben. If you are tired of the naysayers and you support the underdog (Ben Affleck) be sure to JOIN the Facebook page that InvestComics created. Everyone can post various meme’s, articles, or just comment about their feelings about the Warner Brothers hire. Good or bad. Join by clicking right HERE. Remember, have fun! Why so serious?

On the heels of this news came the announcement of Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor. Many of the aforementioned fans weighed in with this news as well, this time with more of a positive outlook. Bryan is said from multiple reports to have signed a 6 to 10 film deal. That’s a whole lotta Lex!

The winner of the signed Jimmy Palimiotti Fury #1 was Mike Villegas. Congratulations Mike! Be sure to sign up to the InvestComics Newsletter to find out the next contest. This one is sweet!!

This week Marvel fans are treated to an introduction in Captain America (2012 7th Series) #10. Meet Godzola! Hmm, not that keen on the name, but we shall wait and see. The possible return of Binary happens in Captain Marvel (2012 7th Series) #15. If you feel so inclined to find Binary’s very first appearance, you will find it in Uncanny X-Men #164 (1982). This is the part of the historic Chris Claremont/Dave Cockrum run. Fast forwarding some 7 years later with Chris Claremont still at the helm, Uncanny X-Men #251 (1989) strikes one of the classic X covers to date. Wolverine nailed to the X. How about this week’s Uncanny Avengers (2012 Marvel Now) #11 striking a resemblance? Marc Silvestri killed it back in 1989 and John Cassaday does a superb job this week.

Batman Incorporated Special (2013 DC) #1 variant cover by Ethan Van Sciver is sold out. It would be a good idea to try and get your hands on that if possible. Bat-Cow will also make her solo debut here! Bat-Cow’s debut was in Tiny Titans #17 (2009) in case you were wondering.

….And speaking of sold out number one issues, Overtaken (2013 Aspen) #1 is teetering on a second run soon, as is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (Hundred Penny Press Edition – Cover A Dan Duncan, Quantum And Woody #1 (3rd Printing – 1st printing recommended on InvestComics Hot Picks), and Arcane Secrets #1 (recommended last week on InvestComics Hot Picks).

That’s it for this week! Be sure to stay close because this week (maybe) the NEW contest will debut. Win a modern number one comic book, Hot series, signed!! Sign up to the InvestComics Newsletter to find out first!

See you soon, Invest wisely.

Well if you’re a comic book enthusiast you know by now that Marvel has a book coming out this week that promises to meet expectations of a fantastic brawl. Avengers vs. X-Men #1, or better yet the way Marvel is billing it “A vs. X” will finally come out after a huge build up. The fight is said to reverberate throughout much of the Marvel Universe.  In the end, will this clash between these two colossal teams mean anything within the confines of the MU? Probably a resounding no as an answer here, but we do get to see a great scrap! Anything they may happen in this storyline anyway will probably be “Bobby-Ewing-ed” anyway. Who’s Bobby Ewing? What’s Bobby Ewing-ed? Dallas television show? Google it…..

As any comic collector would probably know, this is not the first time these teams have gotten into a lovers’ quarrel. But there was that 1987 limited series that was a lot of fun. X-men vs. The Avengers (X vs. A). Brought to you by writer’s Roger Stern and Tom Defalco, with Marc Silvestri and Keith Pollard on pencils. Those were the days when readers didn’t expect as much as they do these days. Yes it was the speculation days in comic collecting, but it was still fun to read the story where the hyperbole didn’t set the bar so high to be let down if a story wasn’t that good. In today’s market, with the savvier collector, we expect more from our writers and are quicker to criticize with so much availability as far as social media goes to get your voice heard. Well that’s today’s episode of the soapbox! All kidding aside, pick up the 4 issue limited series from 1987 and get some enjoyment out of reading it. Better yet, pick up the 4 issues, buy the new Avengers vs. X-Men #1 and do a side by side comparison of the 2 first issues! Look how far the industry has come. Or maybe not! If you do the comparison and want to write up a review for InvestComics, send it our way (contact@trendingpopculture.com), we’ll post it! If you do the comparison and use it for your own purposes after stealing the idea from here, be sure to at least credit us. Thanks.

Hulk #50 is a milestone “Bonus” sized issue. Whatever happened to “Double sized” issues? Here we get 48 pages of Red Hulk goodness. So what is the mysterious dark figure following Hulk around? Will we find out in the Bonus sized issue? Probably not….maybe….does anyone care really? One thing to surely care about is the awesome Walt Simonson Variant cover. That guy rocks. Be sure to click on the cover image to enlarge it. (It’s also featured in the covers of the week below).

Avengers Academy #28 gives fans another go at the Runaways team. With all the hype over Brian K. Vaughn’s recent Saga #1, the Runaways #1 from 2003 was a very well received written book from BKV. That said it’s also their first appearance.

Marvel has a busy week on the Hot Picks this week, right? It doesn’t stop with the release of the much anticipated Secret Service #1 from superstar Mark Millar and legend status Dave Gibbons. These two creators better deliver the goods with this series. Very high expectations here…..remember the social media critic’s we spoke about earlier? Yes, apply that here.

Voltron Year One #1 from Dynamite Entertainment makes its way into your shop this week. Check out the very firstVoltron comic ever in Voltron #1 (1985) from Modern Comics. Ape Entertainment releases Ramiel Wrath of God #1 from writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach of the Lost television series.

That’s it for this week. Stan Lee interview still forthcoming, promise! News forthcoming about the InvestComics’ Comic Hot Picks Chicks as well!

Scroll through the covers of the week below.

See you next week. Invest wisely.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 1-27-10

Captain America rejoins his Team, Green Lantern hits a milestone, JLA gets a new lineup, and another character comes back from the dead. Plus more!

A very nice addition to the InvestComics articles hits this week. 10 For The Pros ; basically what these articles will consist of is 10 simple questions to the pro’s in the Industry. That’s it, no rocket science here. Every creator will get the same 10 questions. It’s going to be fun to see how each creator differs from each other in answering them. The very first creator is one of the DC/Vertigo legends himself and from the Neil Gaiman Sandman run, colorist Daniel Vozzo. Currently on the Jack of Fables title and also having a hand in the JSA 80 page Special, Daniel Vozzo is a veteran with many credentials, with a possible comic written by Vozzo coming in the future.
Bob Heske’s awesome column IndieCreator hits this week with the man responsible for giving us AAM Markosia; Harry Markos. Find out all about Mr. Markos and the great publishing company in this article. It’s a ‘not miss’ folks take my word.
The Brokers Corner article comes at the collectors this week with more great finds from Topher Seal. Check out an oldie but goodie in his Blue Chip of The Month pick. Great finds as usual from TS!

Hot Picks for 1-27-10
jla41.gifgreenlantern50.gifasm619.gifnewavengers61.gifJustice League of America #41 debuts the start of a new team. The team will be Batman, Green Lantern, the Atom, Green Arrow, Donna Troy, the Guardian, Cyborg, Mon-El, Starfire, Dr. Light and Congorilla. This new lineup seems like it’ll work. Having Mark Bagley on board helps the eye candy cause too.
Not only is the Blackest Night the hottest story in the comic book land, but now the Green Lantern series reaches its double sized milestone 50th issue. This comic will go into at least 4 printings by the time issue 52 comes out. The big prize here comes from the 1 in 100 variant from Jim Lee. This is a biggie fans. Think about this, the biggest Lantern event ever (Blackest Night), a rare variant from Jim Lee (1 in 100) and a movie looming. Buying this variant is a no brainer.

Amazing Spider-Man #619 will have a character coming back from the dead. Marvel is calling this an unbelievable moment in the Spider-Man series. Who could it be? We’ll see on Wednesday now won’t we!

kickass8.gifkickassmovieposternew.gifSpeaking of dead and coming back, Captain America rejoins his former team in New Avengers #61. What impeccable timing too, because the Siege of Asgard is taking place. Go show them how it’s done Cap! Clean some house.

Marvel will have a monster of a movie coming out on April 16th. Kick Ass is going to absolutely blow the doors off of the comic book movie world. Not only will the movie be huge, but the comic books are already being sought after. This week the final issue of the series will come out. Kick Ass #8 will NOT be the last Kick Ass comic you will ever see. This is a guarantee. The franchise begins on April 16th; buy all of the Kick Ass comics now before the sequel and 3rd movie comes out.

Brian Michael Bendis adds to the beginning of the NEW Ultimate line with Ultimate Comics Enemy #1. What’s with this title? It doesn’t sound right. Anyway, get on board here and check out the next exciting chapter in the NEW Ultimate line to
ultimatecomicsenemy1_foilogramcover.gifarchie605.gifpilotseasondemonic1.gifthe likes “you have never seen”.
What do you get when you put together Robert Kirkman, Joe Benitez, Marc Silvestri, and a demon? You come away with a Top Cow comic called Pilot Season: Demonic #1 that is going to sell out very quickly.
Archie #605 will be the final chapter in the Archie gets married storyline. Look for more surprises to be headed in the direction of the newlyweds. Is that Archie on the cover with his kids? Yes it is! Wow, and this isn’t even the “surprise” they are talking about for this issue. Archie comics promises this will be the most talked about Archie comic book of all time. This sounds important, don’t miss this folks.

Here are some other comics to check out this Wednesday…..

InvestComics Comic Hot Pick 1-16-08

This week will make you feel Stranded……..

Stranded # 1
Release Date 01-16-08

SCI-FI/Virgin Comics

The Hot Pick this week has a few big names attached to it which could ultimately either lead to its downfall or its ride on the successful money trail. This drama/sci-fi comic is created by writer/novelist Mike Carey (X-Men, Lucifer, The Devil You Know), with covers by Greg Horn and Marc Silvestri. Nice fire power, not the best but okay. The other factor regarding this issue getting the Hot Pick nod would be that it’s the first time that SCI-FI (channel)/Virgin Comics are ever branding a comic together. Is this enough to hold its weight in the long run? Give this comic a strong storyline and some good artwork and we’ll see. Overall we’re not looking at a huge buy here. Look to see how the market reacts within the first couple of weeks. If its a sell out and buzz abound, hold on to your first few issues and pray for a SCI-FI television series.

Invest wisely.
