DC continues to bring back many characters from obscurity. This week The Ray begins his own series in Justice League Of America The Ray #1. His first appearance was in his self titled book; The Ray #1 in 1992. This comic can be found for a couple of bucks on Ebay. Click that link and buy yourself a copy now if you believe in the Ray making a comeback. Or just buy it because Joe Quesada penciled the original series and then returned in 1994’s Ray “Rebirth” to do a few covers.
Staying on topic here about characters making their return, judging a book by its cover Superman #15 this Wednesday, Superdemon from Earth 13 looks to make his return. He first cameo appeared unnamed in Superman Beyond 3D #1 (2008). Superdemon reemerged on the variant cover of Multiversity Society Of Super-Heroes #1 (2014) by Frazer Irving. He was finally mentioned and appeared by the name ‘Superdemon’ in The Multiversity #2 (2014). And that is the Whole Superdemon checklist!
….And one more DC character coming back this week; Kamandi. With the release of Kamandi Challenge Special #1, DC will reprint Kamandi, The Last Boy On Earth #32 (1975) to its entirety. Here’s the thing with the new Kamandi book. It has a cover price of $7.99. The Kamandi, The Last Boy On Earth #32 (1975) on Ebay, the original, can be purchased at the same price or a few buck more. Why not get THAT instead of the new one?? It’s the same exact book, but better. It has the original Jack Kirby pencils, story and cover. This comic also has the retelling of Kamandi’s origin. Yes, get the original, stop being silly.

Many first will occur with the new character Mosaic from Marvel. Although we’re not completely up on our Mosaic guidebook, but Marvel says that in Mosaic #4, his first encounter with a super-hero occurs. That first hero is Spider-Man.
The biggest romance in comics in a long time continues in Spider-Gwen #16, with a stellar Robbi Rodriguez variant cover. Crossover storyline; ‘Sitting In A Tree’ part two.
Amazing Spider-Man #23 cover art Alex Ross gets a thumbs up from us. Gwen Stacy joins the bad guys? Read and find out.
Although an amazing cover by Francesco Mattina on Gamora #2, it looks like She-Hulk no?
Marvel will put the new Iron Man; Riri Williams against a seriously big time villain yet to be announced in Invincible Iron Man #3. The Stefano Caselli cover is on point.
The Captain Marvel character gets a new start….again. Mighty Captain Marvel #1, written by Margaret Stohl and art from Ramon Rosanas.
The Gwenpool Army makes an appearance in Gwenpool #10.

It’s been a long while since monster comics dominated the genre. At one point dinosaurs, mummies, vampires and a bevy of other monster type characters were the ‘go to’ for a sale within the industry. In today’s market, Devil Dinosaur is teaming with Moon Girl and that seems to be going well, no? This Wednesday Marvel will attempt to test this market to see if there is in fact a market for monster books. As we have stated in previous Hot Picks years ago and recently, Disney (Marvel) has yet to touch on two comic book genre’s on the big screen and television. Water and horror/monster comics. Enter one of those test markets this Wednesday with Monsters Unleashed #1. Creative firepower accompanies this book; writer Cullen Bunn and artist Steve McNiven. Should be a fun ride.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks…..

There are two types of marketing strategies in this world. There is marketing and then there is marketing. If you fall into the latter, you understand why we do most of the things we do around here. That said, there are certain companies that understand the process and some that don’t. Valiant Entertainment release their comic Divinity III Aric #1 this Wednesday with many critics complaining and harassing on various boards around the internet. Why you may ask? Well we will do a show and tell. Take a look at four of the five covers being released in this article. What do you see? Exactly. Valiant had a chance to possibly change things, but they declined to do so. Good for them. Although very similar, It’s not the same. Let fans talk and create that buzz, get them talking, sharing, complaining, commenting, it’s all a moot point. Valiant wins here no matter what. They got your attention and you’re talking about it. It’s all free publicity. It’s marketing 101 right here. Good stuff. And oh yes, we’re quite confident too that Valiant will back up their mini comic book fan mutiny against there character lookalike with a ridiculously fabulous story from Joe Harris. Art by David LaFuente.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Here are four comics to BUY NOW at or under $99. No biding. Man-Thing #1 (1979) 9.8. A high grade bronze here and origin retold for only $66.49. DC Super Stars #17 (1977) 7.5. This is the first full appearance and origin of Huntress (Helena Wayne) at only $84. Forever People #8 (1972) 9.6. An earlier Darkseid appearance, Jack Kirby story, art and cover for $84.95. Marvel Feature #4 (1972) 5.5. First Bronze Age Ant-Man appearance and origin retold. Spider-Man appearance as well. All this for only $60.

DC Rebirth Holiday Special #1 will deliver the goods on new comic day. A ton of world class talent in this $9.99 special. DC is touting the return of Detective Chimp in this book as well. The last time we saw Detective Chimp in action was in 2011’s Zatanna #16. A hard to find/scarce comic and a fantastic Adam Hughes cover to boot. If you’re interested, Detective Chimp’s first appearance (modern) into the DC universe occurred in DC Comics Presents #35 (1981). Art from legend Gil Kane.
Deathstroke #8 concludes the ‘Professional’ story line as Deathstroke battles Superman. The Shane Davis cover is a keeper. More so if you’re a Superman fan….And that Jim Lee Suicide Squad #8 cover too. Wow.
Harley Quinn not only becomes more of a player, but will grace one of the variant covers of the new Batman TMNT Adventures #2.

Daredevil #14 puts the villain Muse front and center in the conclusion of the ‘Dark Art’ story line. Muse paints a dismal Daredevil cover here. A terrific Ron Garney cover. He’s been killing it with these unbelievable Daredevil covers hasn’t he?? Muse could be a villain that sticks in Daredevil’s side for years to come. Muse(2) first appeared a few issues ago in Daredevil #11.

It turns out (no surprise), after much muttering, moaning and complaining (instead of giving things a chance first, what a concept there), Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows debut was a likable first issue. The consensus is stating that fans actually dig the first issue and now Marvel needs to follow it up with more of the same to garner even more interest. Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #2 will have the new modern day Fantastic Four comic, but with three, different players, a family, well you get the idea, fighting their way out of an attack from the Mole Man. The J. Scott Variant family cover is a beauty. Speaking of Mr. J. Scott Campbell, his Red Sonja #0 variant jumps off the cover.
Kate Bishop begins her solo career this Wednesday, bumping off Clint in Hawkeye #1. Kind of like what Prescott did to Romo. (NFL fans only understand this reference, sorry non-sports fan). Check out Kate Bishop’s first appearance in Young Avengers #1 (2005).
Salvador Espin pays homage to Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man #1 (1990) with his cover for Deadpool Back In Black #5. Also, Chris Stevens pays homage Rob Liefeld’s New Mutants #87 (1990) with his cover for Guardians Of The Galaxy #15.

The battle begins for the ultimate supreme mutant team in the Marvel universe. IVX #1 pits the Inhumans against the X-Men. Lets revisit here, Disney is so perturbed with Fox Studios regarding the X-Men franchise and them not ‘teaming up’ with Marvel Studios that the original ‘X’ books and Wolverine have basically disappeared from their comic book universe altogether. Disney has announced the Inhumans will be starring in their own television show by next year. Now Disney realized a bit how insecure they have looked, so they are bringing back ONE X title(s) by early next year. So……our money is on the Inhumans. That’s until Fox relinquishes or lets Disney borrow Wolverine from their clasp. Then our dough will be on the X-Men. We can switch sides like that. So can you.

NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!
We are not responsible for comics not shipped on time and or changing of release dates regarding this article or any article on InvestComics. We report on the comics DUE out the coming week. We have NO control of release dates nor will we change our article to accommodate a change in shipping, release date or cancellation.

Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates in purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

We have two IC 100 Club Pick’s this week and they’re both under a $100! Now that’s good stuff. The first comic is Machine Man #1 9.6 (1978). This Bronze Age comic is graded by CBCS. It’s only $50! Legend Jack ‘King’ Kirby provides both the cover and the interior for Machine Man’s first series. This comic is also the first time the character is referred as ‘Machine Man’ and not Mr. Machine. A $50 bill grabs this gem.
The next IC 100 Club Pick is 1st Issue Special #5 8.5 (1975). Another All Kirby issue that includes cover and interior art. This beautiful 8.5 graded CBCS comic is the first appearance of Mark Shaw, a.k.a. the Manhunter. A first appearance high grade Bronze Age comic from Jack Kirby for $50?? AND free shipping?? You better click that Image or the RED link and buy this before it’s gone!

Have you seen the latest InvestComics Checklist that came out this week? Bullseye!…right HERE.

Creator Joe Harris will write the new Image Comic; Snowfall #1. It’s an extra paged comic at the same $3.99 price point. We all love that now don’t we?! Joe is an obvious talent, a fabulous writer, look for this comic to do well.
A beautifully done variant from Rafael Albuquerque; Huck #4 (Image Comics). Rafael pays homage to a famous movie poster. If you don’t know what movie by looking at this cover, well that’s too bad.

Sticking with the cover theme, Neal Adams returns once again this week with his DC Comics variants. Neal is still on top of his game. These comic covers are fantastic; Robin Son Of Batman #9, Martian Manhunter #9, Harley Quinn #25 (The Amanda Conner cover is awesome too), Titans Hunt #5Sinestro #20, and finally the awesome Wonder Woman #49 cover.
…..And about that Wonder Woman comic. Korean artist extraordinaire Kim Jung Gi will pencil a story inside of this book. He’s a tremendous artist and he hasn’t done much of any mainstream work in the comic book industry (Marvel/DC/Image/Etc). One of the only comics we could find that he’s done is Flash #33 (2014). He’s credited as the cover artist here. And it’s a fantastic cover too! One more thing, Wonder Woman #49 (Neal Adams) is sold out.

Then there was the official first titled book team-up book; Power Man and Iron Fist #50 (1978). And THEN there is the InvestComics Iron Fist Checklist right HERE (shameless plug, we know!).

Artist Joe Benitez starts on a new series; Wraithborn #1 from his label Benitez Productions. This story looks interesting and Joe’s art is always on point. One to look for on Wednesday. The very first appearance of Wraithborn was in 2005 under DC’s WildStorm Signature Series; Wraithborn #1.

Here are some other great indie number one comics to look at this week. A second series here from Dynamite Entertainment; Grumpy Cat and Pokey #1. Shikari Force Hunters #1 (Graphic India), and Dusu Path Of The Ancient #1 (Stranger Comics).

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 9/3/14

[scrollGallery id=369]

There are foregone conclusions in life. The one that we all try hardest to elude is death. No matter how hard we try, we all will eventually meet our ultimate demise. No way around this one folks. It’s going to happen. However, the death card- foregone conclusion does not hold water within the comic book world. Wolverine will start the ultimate conclusion to his life beginning this week in Death of Wolverine (2014) #1. The death will stir the pot a bit, but will simply not hold for the long hall. Wolverine equals money and Disney isn’t about to give that up. So what to do as a fan? Well for one; enjoy the story put forth before you. It’s probably going to be a great one! As a speculator, well there are literally about 13 variants (at last count) that stand before you. If you’re a savvy investor and stay on top of the InvestComics Hot Picks each week, you’ll know what to do exactly. If you’re a first timer here, all I can say is choose wisely. There are simply too many variants to cover, but I can tell you one thing. It will be short lived, so you better turn over the comics quick. There is one sold out variant and that one goes to the sketch Deadpool variant. That variant alone will cost you around $350. That’s a bit much. Money better spent on a nice Bronze Age first appearance someplace. It’s your money though. If you buy that $350 book, you better have a good plan to get rid of it.

DC Comics wants to out duel Marvel this week so they go back to the well with their 3D covers. There is absolutely no redeeming value to these amazingly awesome 3D comics as far as monetary value goes. It’s a passing fad and will be as big as the Bombshell covers were, or the selfie covers. Yes you get the idea. Take a pass on these if you’re thinking of a spec market spike. There will however probably be ONE or TWO that will break through to cause an aftermarket bump. A short lived gimmick will bring a few extra bucks to your pocket, so the same applies here as did the Death of Wolverine. Choose wisely. Here is a quick checklist with images of which 3D covers are headed your way.

Check out the zany/fun and Sold Out variant comic God Hates Astronauts (2014 Image) #1 this Wednesday. No more left at Diamond so you better get a copy if you think it’s a keeper. Another sold out comic hitting the shelf this week is Silent Hill Downpour Annes Story (2014) #1. Don’t look for too much on the spec side with this comic though.

Since the inception of InvestComics back in 2005 I have recommended Moon Knight countless times, everything from Werewolf by Night, Marvel Spotlight, to the Stephen Platt run and many more. All of those comics have showed some decent progress over time. I will continue to inform anyone that reads this column each week that you need to get your Moon Knight Comics in order. He will eventually come to fruition and hit the big screen. When it is announced one day, these books will explode beyond a price range that makes sense to buy for the savvy speculator. So with that, in this week’s Moon Knight (2014 5th Series) #7 fans are introduced to a new villain.

Disney based comic Figment has been selling very well. Figment (2014) #4 will reveal the origin of Dreamfinder and Figment.

Alice Cooper (2014 Dynamite) #1 will start a new ongoing series written by the amazing Joe Harris. Alice Cooper is no stranger to comics. Check out his first appearance in the Marvel title Marvel Premiere #50 (1979). Mr. Cooper had an actual hand in writing that book too. Awesome Terry Austin cover as well!

Dark Horse Comics puts together two unlikely characters; Grendel and the Shadow in Grendel vs Shadow (2014) #1. Although the Shadow is a cool teammate, Grendel is total badas*. Grendel’s first appearance was in Primer #2 (1983). A once very hot commodity way back in the day still shows signs of life on Ebay. A recent 9.6 CGC graded sold for $250. Primer #2 consistently sells on Ebay, which is a great sign. Why Grendel isn’t on the big screen yet is puzzling. If you can get your hands on one of these, do yourself a favor and do so. It’s a winner and an investment all the way.

Number One (2014 Aazurn) #1 will be a great read. Look for this one shot to sell out. A disturbing new Vertigo title will be of interest to check out; Names (2014 DC/Vertigo) #1. Ex Con (2014 Dynamite) #1, Cloaks (2014 Boom) #1, and Death Defying Dr Mirage (2014 Valiant) #1 will be worth a look as well.

Want off the wall, funny, wacky this week? Look no further than Hawkeye vs Deadpool (2014) #0. This will be a must read.

Be sure to visit the InvestComics Instagram page. A lot of cool comics up for sale!

See you next week. Actually not! InvestComics will be at the Baltimore Comic Con!! Look for A LOT of POST from the show on the InvestComics Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Google Plus and Tumblr pages!! We’ll bring Baltimore Comic Con to you!

See you next week from Baltimore! Invest wisely.

The most unsurprising, obvious, anti-climactic comic book to hit shelves in years will be coming at us this Wednesday Age of Ultron (2013 Marvel) #10. And in a polybag?!! Marvel for real here?? Here’s the scoop for those living under a rock for the past couple of months (spoilers coming). One, Neil Gaiman is the co-writer on this issue and two, Angela; from Image Comics makes her debut in the Marvel Universe. If the cat is out of the bag, why are we getting this comic on the shelf in a polybag?? So fans cannot thumb through it to see what they already know? Maybe, just maybe Marvel has another surprise in store for us? Hopefully so, because if not this is all extremely lame. Sorry Marvel, but you dropped the ball on this one. Speaking on the topic of lame, Spawn #9 (which everyone on the entire planet owns) is the first appearance of Angela. Why is this lame you may ask? Well for one, this comic came out during the height of the Todd McFarlane Spawn frenzy, so there are bazillion copies of this book out there. It was 1993, the beginning of the end for the speculation market. Don’t believe it? Here’s some healthy numbers (not good collector numbers) to throw at you. How about 371 total graded copies of Spawn #9?! How about 231 of those graded at a 9.8?!! How about 37 signature series books, with 20 of those sitting in the 9.8 spot? No upside here folks, sorry. But, here’s a big but (get your mind out of the gutter), with the talks of Marvel saying they want a strong female lead to star in her own movie, would they actually go with Angela?? Stranger things have happened. Even then, a strong spike would occur upon that news only to level off quickly because of the supply here. Do not get caught up on Spawn #9, meaning do not pay a premium. There are simply too many Spawn #9’s sitting out there.

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum here we have Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24 and 100 Bullets Brother Lono (2013) #1 this Wednesday. The opposite side of the spectrum is in regards to the graded territory. The 100 bullets character Lono first appeared in 100 Bullets #5 in 1999. In a much lower print run, this comic has a total of 6 graded comics. 1 at the 9.8 point and 3 signature series coming in at the 9.8 mark. Yes, understood that there is no demand for this comic to the likes of Angela, but what if, what if Warner Bros. branches out and starts bringing some of the awesome Vertigo titles to the big screen or television? There are so many amazing stories sitting in the Vertigo archives it’s an absolute surprise that WB or television hasn’t visited that well as often as they should. But IF and when they do, THIS; 100 Bullets will be tapped. A Showtime announcement from 2011 has never come to fruition, but don’t be surprised when it comes back to life along with other Vertigo titles.

The Power Pack team are set for their first appearance in the Ultimate Marvel Universe in Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24. Unlike 100 Bullets #5, Power Pack’s first appearance print run is more than that of bullets. But this shouldn’t deter the collector from still snatching this comic up! Here’s why. First off, Power Pack is based on a kid team right? What better time than the present to get a kid team off the ground and running to a possible cartoon later on? Why not, it’s possible right? Marvel and DC have proven that their cartoon series’ are successful; this would be a no brainer if Marvel hits it with Power Pack. Want more collector nourishment? How about that there are 40 total graded Power Pack #1’s (1984) and a bit top heavy at 20 in the 9.8 range? 7 signature series books, with one in the 9.8 spot. Although the top heavy 9.8’s are a bit of a turn off, it’s still early in the game as they say. Many collectors can find the first appearance of Power Pack sitting in the 50 cent bins at their local comic shop or comic convention. Do not sleep on these kids…kids. Why would Marvel be bringing them back if they didn’t possibly have a plan in place for them? It could be a long shot you’re right, but at 50 cents apiece, what’s to lose right?

Recorded AttacksZombies are amuck once again in the comic universe. This time with Extinction Parade (2013 Avatar) #1. Writer Max Brooks, THE Zombie guru of all zombie guru’s is about to unleash his zombie fest on the comic book genre. Max’s first (and only!) stint in the comic book zombie world came in 2008’s Recorded Attacks from Avatar press. This is a creator who is a bestselling author, the creator of World War Z, and about to make his mark in the comic book industry. Recorded Attacks is an extremely LOW PRINT run comic that has 20 total grades. 4 of which sit at 9.8, 11 signature 9.8’s. Get this comic now fans if you want to be a part of the new zombie apocalypse that is arriving from Max Brooks.

Joe Harris writes the new season of X-Files in X-Files Season 10 (2013 IDW) #1. A possible sleeper from Black Mask Liberator (2013 Black Mask) #1, also check out Wild Blue Yonder (2013 IDW) #1, Baltimore The Inquisitor (2013 Dark Horse) #0, and Spongebob Comics Annual Size Super Giant Swimtacular #1!

Chris Carter to executive produce X-FILES: SEASON 10 at IDW.

IDW and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products Announce Creative Team and Direction for THE X-FILES
Chris Carter returns to Executive-Produce “Season 10”

San Diego, CA (March 3, 2013) – Fans of The X-FILES and the paranormal exploits of Special Agents Mulder and Scully are in for a treat! Today at Emerald City Comic-Con, IDW Publishing and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products announced the creative team for their upcoming comics based on the legendary television series. The entire project will be executive produced by THE X-FILES creator Chris Carter, who is returning in an active role to help steer his characters back to the forefront of popular culture once again. THE X-FILES: SEASON 10 will be written by Joe Harris, writer of the acclaimed series Great Pacific, with art and colors by the Comeback team of artist Michael Walsh and colorist Jordie Bellaire. Issue #1 will feature covers by Dave Johnson, Joe Corroney, and Carlos Valenzuela, along with a classic photo image of Mulder and Scully. “It was already an incredibly exciting prospect to tell stories set after the second THE X-FILES movie, especially after Joe Harris worked up such a great plan in that regard,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. “But my excitement level went off the charts after a meeting with Chris Carter, where he agreed to come aboard and executive produce our Season 10. In much the same way Joss Whedon steered our Angel: After the Fall series, Chris has graciously returned to do the same here. What do THE X-FILES look like in this increasingly paranoid and untrusting post-Wikileaks era? Well, they look like canon to me… and come June, the rest of the world will be able to see it for themselves, too.” In the opening story arc, “Believers,” readers will catch up with Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, living normal lives together under secret identities. However, a visit from an old friend threatens to rip them from suburban anonymity, as they learn that someone is preying upon everyone involved in THE X-FILES. Prepare to revisit familiar faces—some very unexpected, threats old and new, and an intriguing mystery designed to return the beloved franchise to its former glory! THE X-FILES: SEASON 10 launches this June when fans everywhere can enjoy a new supernatural experience.
THE X-FILES: SEASON 10 #1 (FC, 32 pages, $3.99). In stores 6/19/13

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=230]

The feature book in this week’s InvestComics Hot Picks has to be Age of Ultron (2013 Marvel) #1. Well not so much the AOU #1 book, but the very first appearance of Ultron. Ultron first appeared in Avengers #54 (1968). The aftermarket is genuinely kind as far as pricing goes. A CGC graded 9.6 is at a Buy it Now position of only $560 on Ebay right now. Not too shabby, but here are some numbers to consider. There are 142 graded copies in the census right now. 18 of those sit at the 9.6 grade. Still not too shabby right? Here’s the better deal, only 3 sit in the 9.8 spot. The 9.8 is the obvious moneymaker, but the 9.6 grades are not at all a bad deal either. So how much of an impact will Ultron make on the Marvel Universe with this event? Probably a decent one and will the popularity carry over after the event is over? Maybe. Ultron is a tricky character to invest in. It’s one of those hit or misses that we must go on our gut instincts. With so many movies coming out from Marvel in the next 10 years or so, Ultron may make his mark there. In the meantime, I would get an ungraded Near Mint copy and hold onto it (maybe grade it if you think you can pull a 9.8 or a 9.6). It’s probably the wise choice.

And speaking of the Avengers, Avengers (2012 5th Series) #7 will have the New Adam emerging, don’t miss it. And on topic with more Avengers we have Ultimates (2011 Marvel Ultimate Comics) #22 hitting the self this week. The issue will call upon the first appearance of the West Coast Ultimates, a.k.a. the West Coast Avengers. The West Coast Avengers first appeared in West Coast Avengers #1 (1984). This comic can be found in some of the one dollar bins at your local shop or convention. Want to hear a crazy stat? There are 48 total graded copies and 38 of them are perched on the 9.8 mark (nothing higher). Sheesh!

With all of the crazy happenings going on with the Spider-Man storyline, there’s no telling what the cover of the new Spider-Man issue means or what it may bring us. Will Superior Spider-Man (2012) #5 have the NEW Spidey do the unthinkable? Probably not, but these days you never know!

DC does some explaining; the origin of the new kingpin of Gotham City Ignatius Ogilvy in Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #18. And the digital comic making its debut in print from DC; Ame-comi Girls (2013 DC) 2nd Series #1 should be checked out.

Other comics that should be on your radar this week; Sex (2013 Image) #1 (great title!), Helheim (2013 Oni Press) #1, Transformers Spotlight Bumblebee (2013 IDW) #1, and Best of Zenescope Special Edition (2013) #1.

That’s it for this week. Stay close because more on the InvestComics Publishing line coming soon. Be sure to LIKE the InvestComics Facebook page for all things InvestComics! And Twitter too!

Shaun Cobble and Shaun Sorenson are making waves with the new InvestComics Podcast Breaking the 4th Wall. Be sure to check out the show each and every week on Sunday’s. The boys have a lot of fun with it. Coming up shortly, InvestComics got a hold of Joe Harris to come on the show! That’s writer Joe Harris; Batman: Battle for the Cowl, The Fury of Firestorm, screenwriter on Darkness Falls, and much more. Look for that show coming up soon with Joe on. Fun to be had! And MORE guest announcements coming soon too. Look for them on the InvestComics Facebook page.

Now let’s get to this week’s chock full of number one issues. That’s 12 number one issues and one number zero. I can’t recall such a big week in which so many number ones have hit from different companies. Excluding the new 52 and Marvel NOW! of course.

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=226]

Five of the number one issues come from IDW Publishing. IDW is simply killing it right now! In case you have been living under a rock, IDW has arrived. With the recent success of 2 titles, selling out, it’s not a surprise to see IDW go back to the well here. Star Wars #1 was a tremendous success, so IDW is giving fans Gi Joe (2013 IDW Volume 3) #1. Great move here because a restart of the Star Wars franchise is just what the collector ordered. G.I. Joe will be no different here. Look for fast sellouts and some quick jump in aftermarket pricing. G.I. Joe originally appeared in the Marvel/Hasbro launch back in 1982. The CGC market seems a bit inundated with this issue. A total of 1,296 graded copies to date. 277 which are sitting in the 9.8 range while 332 sit in the 9.6 range. This doesn’t really help your aftermarket cause. That said, pull out one of your 1982 Joe’s in your collection and pair it up with the new Joe from IDW that will sellout out, throw it up on Ebay and watch the bids come in. The sellout of Joe will probably occur with My Little Pony Micro Series (2013 IDW) #1 as well. With the successful launch of the My Little Pony comic, the new Micro series (a la TMNT) will focus on each pony. Granted this comic may not be for the average fanboy, but the aftermarket money should be! Be sure to put this comic in the middle of your stack and not on the top. Not because of embarrassment, because you don’t want to tip anyone off that you’ll be selling this on Ebay in a few days for $10 apiece. The other IDW number one issues not to be ignored this week are Vitriol The Hunter (2013 IDW) #1, Fever Ridge MacArthur Jungle War (2013 IDW) #1, and Kill Shakespeare Tide of Blood (2013 IDW) #1. IDW is rockin’ n rolling, be there or be square.

Marvel has some number one issues to offer up this week too. Alpha Big Time (2013 Marvel) #1 will be headed our way after a brief delay. Was there really a demand for this Alpha character to have his own book? Why is this happening exactly? Guess it never hurts to try something new right? Alpha first appeared a long long time ago in Amazing Spider-Man #692….um late last year. It’s probably still sitting on the new comic book shelf at your local shop. The main number one issue from the pair that are coming out will be Nova (2013 5th Series) #1. Why you ask? No really, you’re asking why? I’d spell it out for you with little dashes in-between the letters here but that will take too long. Guardians of the Galaxy. That’s it, that’s mostly what you need to know. With the debut of the Marvel Cosmo’s on the big screen, Nova would be a character to have in your collection. Nova #1 will be a quick sellout because after 5 tries of a series starring Nova, this time the interest will stay around a bit longer. Thanks in large part due to Marvel’s push of the Guardians movie. The new number one issue however is not the one collector’s should be clamoring after. The 1976 Nova #1, now this is the one you should have. You can get some VF- copies on Ebay for very affordable prices, but one should not settle for those. Look for some VF+/NM copies and grab them. Get those near mint comics graded asap. If you can pull off a 9.8, you’re probably in the money. 466 total graded copies and 70 at the 9.8 spot. Lots at the 9.6 slot. I’m telling you, get a 9.8 and hold on to this comic. It has tremendous upside.

We get introduced to a new villain this week from Marvel. Her name is Jet Black. Check out Captain America (2012 7th Series) #4 for her debut. The secret of Scorpio is revealed in Ultimates (2011 Marvel Ultimate Comics) #21. Scorpio’s first appearance is no secret to us though. Nick Fury’s sibling debuted in Nick Fury, AGENT of Shield #1 (1968) from icon Jim Steranko. Watch in the future for an originally signed Jim Steranko autograph for you to WIN from InvestComics’ video comic book review show FFFIC! Awesomeness indeed. Daredevil (2011 3rd Series) #23 begins a new storyline that claims to be a big one as well as a jumping on point. So jump! And Avengers (2012 5th Series) #6 will give us the origin of the Universe. See, Stan Lee is God.

DC comics Justice League of America (2013) #1 will debut with a variant cover, all of them with the same cover, but with a different flag for each state within the U.S. Very lame, sorry DC you dropped the ball again on this one. See the original tirade on this debacle on InvestComics Hot Picks #255, click HERE for that. In more lame news we get Justice League of Americas Vibe (2013) #1 this week. This comic falls in the same realm as Alpha #1 from Marvel. Is this comic necessary? Don’t look for much on this one, but Vibe’s first appearance is in Justice League of America Annual #2 (1984) if one feels so inclined to waste their time hunting for this. Batwoman (2011 2nd Series) #17 is wowing us with a new status quo. Really? Why a new status quo? Wasn’t this what the New 52 was supposed to do in the first place? Okay, let’s buy into it, see where it goes. DC guarantee’s that Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #17 will be THE book to own in the new 52 universe. Why is this? An answer that only Grant Morrison knows and for us to find out. The DC comic to really keep an eye out on this week besides Action Comics #17 has to be Legion of Super-Heroes (2011 7th Series) #17. Paul Levitz teams back up with Keith Giffen on a Legion book. Cool stuff here fans. Back in the early 80’s Paul and Keith were tearing it up as fans were loving it. The tandem first teamed up on a Legion book back in 1982’s Legion of Super-Heroes #285. They worked together in a backup story called The Forgotten Future. Here’s a nice kicker too, Adam Kubert was the letterer on the story. How cool is that? Three legends on one story!

Todd McFarlane continues his magic and amazing marketing plan on paying homage to several comic book covers. This week he pays homage to the most famous cover of all time in Spawn (1992) #228. He does a tremendous job as always too. Thanks for the eye candy Todd! X-O Manowar (2012 3rd Series Valiant) #10 debuts the new X-O Manowar so check that out. With the recent announcement of the Sixth Gun pilot on NBC, it makes sense to grab a copy of the latest Sixth Gun installment Sixth Gun Sons of the Gun (2013 Oni) #1. We all know Sebastian Piccione from FFFIC will probably be very happy to read this comic!

Rounding out this week we have Dejah Thoris and Green Men of Mars (2013) #1 (take a look at some of the variant covers on this one! Parental Advisory!), Hellraiser Dark Watch (2013 Boom) #1, and Baltimore Widow and the Tank (2013 Dark Horse) #0.

That’s it for this week, watch for the new InvestComics’ newsletter coming soon with some very special BIG news!

Invest wisely.

GREAT PACIFIC scores the sell-out hat-trick!

Image has reported that Joe harris and Martin Morazzo’s GREAT PACIFIC has sold out it’s thirs straight issue. If you’ve been following the FFFIC review show right here on InvestComics, than you know that both Seb and Shaun have been loving this book, and it appears they’re not alone!

THREE SELL-OUTS FOR GREAT PACIFIC

Third issue of Image Comics series gets 2nd printing

A continent of trash in the Pacific Ocean continues to capture the minds of comic book readers as the third issue of the Image Comics series GREAT PACIFIC has sold out and will be reprinted. The second printing of GREAT PACIFIC #3 (DEC128031) will be in stores on February 13. The tale of a privileged young man who seeks to make a difference by forging a new nation on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, written by Joe Harris and drawn by Martín Morazzo, GREAT PACIFIC has sold out of all three of its issues thus far. It also has had coveted Phantom Variant covers for all three of its issues and garnered praise from critics:

“This very unique and interesting premise is paired with spectacular pencils by artist Martin Morazzo who is meticulous when it comes to his attention to detail. This is a fantastic issue, but I do not recommend starting your GREAT PACIFIC adventure here, if you are interested. Definitely pick up issues one and two before you dive into this one, it will be worth it.”

-Comic Vine

“I’m glad a series like this exists and it’s definitely something that can only exist in the world of comics. The story and art is a perfect match for each other and if you’re looking for something very different to read this week then this is it.”

    -Comic Bastards

“I still can’t enough of Martín Morazzo’s illustrations, long and massive landscapes of plastic and garbage as far as the eye can see. You can almost hear the snap, crackle and pop under the protagonist’s feet, as he steps on thousands of plastic water bottles joined together like a floor of modern art.”

    – Comics the Gathering

GREAT PACIFIC wraps up its first story arc with issue #4 on February 6. The start of a new story arc for the now-ongoing series, GREAT PACIFIC #5, will be in stores on March 6.

Here is a cool zombie epic headed our way this week. IDW publishing
brings the fun back into horror/zombie. The solicit states that it pays homage
to the 1970’s exploitation films and disaster movies. Lots of sex and gore in
this one fans. Not for the faint of heart we’re guessing. Perfect! Last Resort
will be brought to you by the team of Jimmy Palmiotti Justin Gray Amanda Conner and Darwyn Cooke. That’s an impressive team and they will indeed deliver on the IDW solicit. This we promise.

Do Androids Dream of ElectricSheep? #1  Are you a Blade Runner fan? You know that Harrison Ford movie that came out in 1982 and directed by Ridley Scott. Yes
that movie. Anyway, the idea and concept came from an original book called ‘Do
Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ BOOM! Studios brings this book to life as it
was inspired from the Blade Runner film. This will be a 24 part series and
could be a good read. Look for this comic to gain some possible momentum as the
word gets out that this is a very cool sci-fi comic that needs to be on your
pull list.
