Marvel’s West Coast Avengers back in 1984 was a hot mini-series that spawned into its own series in late 1985. The series lasted 102 issues with eight annuals. A nice run to say the least. Like most other times, Marvel is going back to the well and bring back the team in West Coast Avengers #1. And like most things that are brought back, there is a new team/character(s) in their place. All fans really have to do is take a look at the Paul Renaud homage cover and see things are a bit different then they were back in 84. Is that Gwenpool? Yep, sure is. How about America Chavez, Kid Omega,Hawkeye boy and girl? Yes, they encompass the new team. How about one more ‘how about?’ How about a new character(?) named Fuse on the team? The new West Coast team will be headed by the creative team of Kelly Thompson (writer) and Stefano Caselli (art). All this comes together this Wednesday. Should be lots of fun.
Punisher enters its eleventh volume this week. Punisher #1 with creative team Matthew Rosenberg (writer) and artist Szymon Kudranski.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #34 introduces a new character; Devin Dinosaur.
Marvel Super Hero Adventures Inferno #1 gives the younger audience a chance to experience some intense Venom/Spider-Man action. Buy this comic for your kid at home, your niece, nephew, grandchild, or whoever. Introduce them into the world of comics.

Micronauts #59

Batman Dracula

Artist Kelley Jones began his remarkable career back in 1984’s Micronauts series for Marvel. Micronauts #54 to be exact. He inked Bill Mantlo pencils. It wasn’t until the middle of 1984 until Mr. Jones got his first official penciling work in Micronauts #59. His work in the early 90’s on DC’s Sandman comic with Neil Gaiman was on point. But it was in late 1991 that Kelley Jones had his defining comic book character moment, as so many others have in their own right. Batman & Dracula: Red Rain (graphic novel) was THE book. This book defined Kelley Jones as a ‘Batman artist’. Fans loved this unique take on the Dark Knight. Those pointed ears. Their Kelley Jones’ and we all love it. Although he did a Batman cover for the Robin II #1 (a regular comic), it wasn’t until 1995 when Jones got his first crack at the actual Batman title in Batman #515. Thirty-four Batman issues in total he would do. He’s forever known as one of the prolific Batman artists, alongside Kane, Aparo, McFarlane, Wrightson, Adams, Capulo, Lee, Breyfogle, Miller, Sale, Mazzuchelli, Bolland, O’Neil, Daniel, Starlin and others. Now this Wednesday, Kelley Jones returns to the character he helped define with his version, his vision in Batman Kings Of Fear #1. Scott Peterson will write the six issue mini and we all get to adore Kelley Jones’ Batman once again. That Bill Sienkiewicz cover is an absolute beauty. Don’t get us started on Mr. Sienkiewicz too…..
Damage gets his first annual; Damage Annual #1; Writer Robert Venditti and artist Diogenes Neves.

Sideways #7

The Fantastic Four will enter its sixth volume this Wednesday; Fantastic Four #1 Vol 6. That’s a whole lotta restarts (…at last count, thirty variant covers to choose from). Now though, it appears we could begin the longest run in quite some time. Not since John Byrne has there been such anticipation to grab a Fantastic Four book. Writer Dan Slott just finished off a ten-year Spider-Man run. Filled with happiness, sadness, changes and controversy. Either driving fans with glee or driving them insane, but at least he evoked an emotion. Fantastic Four needs just this, a swift kick in the as*. With writer Dan Slott and artist Sara Pichelli, it’s more than likely a kickstart to the heart will indeed happen here. The Four took a long hiatus to no fault of their own. Now they are back in a big way. Expect this new series to trend to a fever pitch.
Has anyone noticed lately, Mike Deodato Jr. has been putting on a clinic with his gorgeous covers. Absurdly beautiful. This week, yet another cover pops and turns those heads. Check out the homage cover; Old Man Logan #45. Back in 1982 (Daredevil #181), it was Bullseye stabbing Elektra in the pages of Frank Miller’s Daredevil run, now Bullseye is stabbing Old Man Logan. Mike Deodato Jr. nails it here. His sequential art or his cover art, he’s an amazing talent.
A new chapter begins in Miles Morales’ life. Witness the beginning in Spider-Man Annual #1. Writer Bryan Edward Hill and artists Nelson Blake II and Mark Bagley.
The Fortress Vader story begins in Darth Vader #19. Writer Charles Soule, artist Giuseppe Camuncoli.

In the ‘in case you’re missing it’ department, writer Dan Didio has been putting together quite the story in DC’s Sideways comic. Pick up the first six issues and then Sideways #7 this Wednesday. You’ll dig it.
Comic fans are always up for a good fight. It’s Batman vs. Red Hood in Red Hood And The Outlaws #25.
Suicide Squad #45 begins the Sink Atlantis story. It will continue within the pages of the Aquaman comic. Rob Williams and Dan Abnett write.
Fans of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman will be extremely gleeful this Wednesday as Sandman Universe #1 is released. Although it doesn’t really list Neil as a writer, DC (Vertigo) says ‘from the mind of’ Neil Gaiman. So, we’re going to assume he has some input here. Writer Si Spurrier is listed as the writer. Art by Bilquis Evely. Sandman Universe #1 will lead right into 4 new series from the DC/Vertigo imprint.

The timing is impeccable….The InvestComics LLC website switches gears in March of this year (click here) after thirteen years due to SOME of the reasons related to Howard Chaykin’s new comic Hey Kids! Comics #1 from Image Comics. The cover alone is classic ridiculous fandom. Loving this comic already and we haven’t even opened it up yet. Artist Don Cameron at the helm here as well.
Erik Larsen continues his mind-numbing torrid pace on his Savage Dragon title. Every month, Mr. Larsen brings it. Paying homage to the classic Calvin and Hobbes comic strip in the last month’s issue, this week ‘Beware’ the villain Scourge in Savage Dragon #237. Seriously though, Erik Larsen is a master of his craft and any creator looking for a 101, inspiration, innovation, look no further, Savage Dragon is it. Also, you’d need to follow Erik on his Facebook page. There, you’d get some education about ins and outs of this genre. Fantastic insight that would lend to anyone’s craft either breaking into the business or anyone within the business already.
Long Live Wrestling #0 (Scout Comics); James Haick and Branko Jovanovic.
Hot Lunch Special #1 (AfterShock Comics); Eliot Rahal and Jorge Fornes.
Riptide #1 (Red 5 Comics); Scott Chitwood and Danny Luckert.

Superman #34 is actually Superman #800. So says the Tony Daniel variant. Furthermore, Is this the first appearance of Lois Lane, Female Fury? If so, take a look-see and decide if it’s worth your $3.99 or $4.99 or whatever they will charge for this 800th issue.
Writer Jimmy Palmiotti ushers in a new era of The Jetsons along with artist Pier Brito. Anyone who grew up during the airing of this show during the 1960’s and reruns during the 70’s, knows that it was must watch television. Jetsons #1 will be must read comics. The new style here will have many historians of the old Jetsons show trying to untie their panties from bunching up. Relax, seriously. Just a cartoon and everything is open to anyone’s interpretation. Breathe fanboy, breathe.

A new Neal Adams comic? Deadman #1? Yes, sign us up. The variant comes with a glow in the dark cover as well. The 90’s sure is rearing its ugly head. Don’t mind at all, it’s all in fun!
Spider-Man #234 features the NEW Sinister Six. The team consist of Iron-Spider, Electro, Sandman, Hobgoblin, The Spot and new villain Bombshell. If a collector wanted to purchase any of these first appearances from this new team put together by Iron-Spider, it can be a bit costly. Except for one. Can you guess which character would cost you less than five bucks in some places? This is easy, right? Of course, it’s The Spot. The Spot first appeared in The Spectacular Spider-Man #98 (1985). The Spot looks totally cool on the cover posted here too. Thanks to cover artist Patrick Brown.
InvestComics recommended that collectors get on top of Power Pack #1 (first appearance) a few years back and then a movie announcement hit recently. We pull this off quite often. Boy we are good to our fans! The announcement of a Power Pack movie was well received. Now let’s see how the return of the Power Pack comic book fares. Power Pack #63 from writer Devin Grayson and illustrators Cresta and Marika. June Brigman, the original Power Pack #1 (1984) artist treats fans to a variant Power Pack #63 cover.

Dawn (2)

Dawn of Justice – Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman has made her movie debut in the Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer (Pictured). Now the clock starts ticking as to when WW will get her own solo film, if ever. Can she, will this character be able to hold up in their own film? That’s the million dollar question. A great character with some serious history. There are many directions the Wonder Woman franchise can go, whether any of them work or not is the big question. Not doubting it cannot be done, just a little hesitant to call a WW solo film an absolute winner. For now though, there are plenty of comics to pick up within the 74 years of comic history here; first appearances and key books. Plenty of time as well. We won’t see a solo Wonder Woman title movie for a while. Look for these comics below in the mean time. Some are great pickups right now because the frenzy has not hit.

Dawn (1)

Dawn of Justice – Wonder Woman

There are many Wonder Woman first appearances and key issues that did not make this list. With the rich history comes a lot of material. Also, the DC universe is a vast and convoluted place. There are too many Earth 2, Earth this, Post Flashpoint, Pre Crisis, Post Crisis, etc. So because of this, there will be misses in this checklist. You are more than welcome to list any comic we may have missed in the comment section below.

Also, many of the earlier comics are not available on Ebay right now. Just because they are not available now does not mean they wouldn’t be later on. Some are in fact available right now, like the very first appearance in All Star Comics #8. Be sure to check back to see if some of the comics you seek have been posted.

All Star Comics #8 (1941) First appearance of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor. Golden Age.

Sensation Comics #1 (1942) Second appearance of Wonder Woman. Origin. First appearance of the Invisible plane.

Wonder Woman #178 (1968) First Bronze Age Wonder Woman. All new Wonder Woman.
