Anyone notice how in the first issue of the new Captain Phasma series, ‘she’ never took off ‘her’ mask? When the unmasking does happen, maybe it’s not who you think it is. Maybe we’re wrong, just a hunch, but maybe we’ll find out in the latest issue this week; Journey to Star Wars The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma #2. We know it’s almost near impossible to be someone else, but anything is possible in comic books.
Marvel claims Invincible Iron Man #11 as ‘a prologue to one of the biggest Iron Man stories in modern history.’ That’s a big claim considering how many great stories have been told thus far. Writer Brian Michael Bendis will be the one delivering on Marvel’s promise. If anyone can pull it off, BMB would be the one.

Buy/Bid – Awesome Hulk #23

Buy/Bid – Giant Size Hulk #1

Buy/Bid – Vengeance #1

Buy/Bid – America #7

Some Venomized covers are still turning heads. Avengers #11 Venomized cover by Tyler Kirkham will do  just that this Wednesday. As will Julian Totino’s Aunt May Venomized cover; Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #4.
Venom #154 could be the first ‘silent’ Venom issue. The story is a first of its kind because it looks at the perspective from the symbiote and not its actual host, in this case Eddie Brock. So just a guess here that it could be a ‘silent’ issue. Creators Mike Costa and Paulo Siqueira.

The origin of America Chavez in America #7. Brought to you by creators Gabby Rivera, Annie Wu & Jen Bartel. America first appeared in Vengeance #1 (2011). The subtle Bruce Springsteen Born In The U.S.A. cover swipe is a nice touch from Joe Quinones.
The hot Venomverse series continues this Wednesday; Venomverse #3 from Cullen Bunn and Iban Coello.
Marvel’s Generations this week…..Generations: Ms. Marvel & Ms. Marvel #1. Creators; G. Willow Wilson and Paolo Villanelli.

Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
La Muerta Vengeance #1 from Coffin Comics; Brian Pulido, Mike MacLean & Joel Gomez. Brian Pulido first started this La Muerta character as a successful graphic novel Kickstarter campaign and released the first comic book in 2016; La Muerta: Descent #1. We believe Brian will eventually get this character to be optioned for television or an animated series one day. It’s that bad as*.

Alterna Comics introduces a new character to their already fantastic line-up in Mr. Crypt #1. Brought to you by Troy Verasis and Aleksandar Jovic. In case you haven’t noticed, Alterna Comics has turned the comic biz upside down on its proverbial head with their ‘old style’ comic print comic books. It’s a hit and you should join in on the way of the future….past….well you get the idea. It’s only a matter of time before one of the big 2 gauge the success (and cost!) of these comics and start their own throwbacks. All thanks to Peter Simeti and his team of Alterna Comics. The best part of Alterna Comics throwback print style comics…..they’re creatively well done too. Get on it, enjoy the nostalgia before the two big brothers come by and ruin the fun by watering down the comeback concept.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

Ms. Marvel #1

Buy Now

IC 100 Club Pick: Ms. Marvel #1 (1977) 8.0. When Marvel Studios hits theaters with their first female lead comic book movie, it’s going to be huge. It will make movie goers and comic fans forget about the Wonder Woman flick very, very fast. How can we say this? Well first and foremost, it’s an opinion. Secondly, Warner Bros. has not yet had an answer for any of the Marvel movies as far as the “level” goes. Will the Wonder Woman movie be good? Probably, but Marvel will out-do DC with their female lead movie Ms. Marvel. It will be set in modern day and appeal radically to the younger and older female audiences as Disney KNOWS how to do. It will happen. Disney KNOWS marketing. So with that confidence stated, this week’s IC 100 Club Pick is Ms. Marvel #1 (1977) graded at a low 8.0 and the low price of $79.99. This low grade will not matter once the movie hits and the popularity of Ms. Marvel is at its peak. This movie will be huge. This first appearance of Carol Danvers as Ms. Marvel will be untouchable.

Before reading ahead, we feel we need to warn you that our articles contain very harsh truths in them. Not vulgar language, just a good solid dose of honesty. They always have, they always will. If you are easily offended, cannot come to terms that other people have opinions too beside yourself and especially if you’re a fanboy, discontinue reading. Want to know the real deal with Harley Sinn? Where she came from, how she became a villain, etc. Well find out in Harley Quinn And Her Gang Of Harley’s #5 this Wednesday! The origin of Harley Sinn.
The premiere Suicide Squad writer returns for a one shot. Suicide Squad War Crimes Special #1 by John Ostrander.
The introduction of a new hero will happen in Future Quest #4. Writer Jeff Parker and artist’s Steve Rude and Aaron Lopresti are bringing it.
Two DC annuals to check out. First annual ever; Gotham Academy Annual #1 from Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher. The origin of the first Bombshell; Batgirl in DC Comics Bombshells Annual #1 this Wednesday.
As Warner Bros. is a bit late to the superhero movie party, DC is a bit late on the variant cover theme too. Justice League Of America #9 has a Batman v Superman Dawn Of Justice Cover. Who cares right? Well not only is the cover bad as*, it’s drawn by (insert sarcasm) some artist named Jim Lee. $3.99 cover price. We’ll take one please.

The “new” female comic character is still a hot commodity. Mostly hot for a minute, then cools off, but then there are ones that catch on. Will the first appearance of the female Electro in Amazing Spider-Man #17 be a hot ticket? We’ll have to wait and see for about a minute…..or maybe longer.
Marvel will go to the well once again regarding their success with Gwenpool and Spider-Gwen. In All-New Wolverine Annual #1 we’ll see Wolvergwen and Spiderine. Newer mash-up’s here but this time with the all-new Wolverine character. Although the Wolvergwen character looks like a first appearance, a “Gwenverine” character popped up on a variant cover back in August of 2015. Old Man Logan #2 gets the dubious distinction of being that first appearance issue. Seems to be much like the first appearance of Gwenpool, cover only. So is Gwenverine and Wolergwen the same character? We don’t make this stuff up, we just report it.
We’re loving the cover to Silver Surfer #6. It’s the 200th overall issue of Surfer comic book issues. The cover shows many awesome past Silver Surfer comic books surrounding him. It’s neat.

Dark Horse Comics offers fans two number one comics written by two fan fav’s of the industry this week. Witchfinder City Of The Dead #1 will be written by Mike Mignola and World Of Tanks #1 will be written by Garth Ennis. World Of Tanks #1 will be based on a game that has an audience of 110 million players. That’s a whole lot of possible built-in audience to reach! Two debut Dark Horse Comics to pick up. That’s some nice debut reading material here.
IDW Publishing’s Jill Thompsons Killer Inside Me #1 is sold out. A lot of buzz surrounding this book. Look for a possible bounce in the aftermarket as readers latch on to this classic story put into comic book form. They’ll be delighted and the bounce may happen.
It looks as though IDW has an answer to DC’s All-Star Batman. It’s called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #1. Various A-list creators will contribute to this new on-going TMNT series. Look for possible introductions in this first issue and as the series progresses. This first issue features a back-up story from Kevin Eastman and Bill Sienkiewicz. Now that’s some serious duo firepower. Count us in on this series and especially this first issue.
Spawn #265 will introduce a new character and will also have Ant make an appearance. Ant was introduced in Ant #1 (2012) from Arcana Studio. HER last known appearance of Ant was in Savage Dragon #180 (2012). Will Erik Larsen bring back Ant for good? Hopefully we see more. We’ll wait and see.

Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates in purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Logan’s Run #6 (1977) 9.0. If you’re a Thanos fan you’ll know exactly what this comic brings. A backup story appears in this comic and it happens to be the first ever Thanos solo story. A story from Scott Edelman and Michael Zeck. This nice grade will only cost you $66.99. If you’re a Thanos fan and a big Thanos speculator, this book is for you.

Mockingbird #1 will be an interesting book from different vantage points. First, the character itself. Although Marvel is literally screaming in the solicit that we “DEMANDED IT!” we’re quite sure in actuality, in real life, we probably were not demanding it, but hey Mockingbird is a character within the comic book realm rarely looked at as a major character, If ever really. Not taking away from the potential of bad as* she can probably deliver in her own series, it’s just all so…..new. And it would be nice to get a deeper scope of a character that is making her way on the television series right now. As for the creative team. Best selling author (that’s books with no pictures in them) Chelsea Cain will scribe her third comic book ever. The first was a Mockingbird story, naturally and her second was a Hellboy story. Very new blood here and that’s a great thing. Maybe add a different flavor to this particular series and character we haven’t read yet. Moving onto the artist; Kate Niemczyk. Kate is so new that she has no penciling credits we can find. Nothing in the data basis. So we’re looking at a possible first published work here. All and all, a new rookie creative team may bring a bolt of life into this character not seen before. Keep an ear to the ground on this series. If word gets out that this series is bringing it, Mockingbird #1 will be a keeper. One more thing. A semi-newcomer does a fantastic action variant cover; Afu Chan. Check it out.
Mockingbird first appeared in Marvel Team-Up #95 (1980) with a Frank Miller/Bob McLeod cover.
Mr. Cosmic Jim Starlin returns to Marvel with a new Cosmic story, Infinity Entity #1. The story centers around Adam Warlock. As any fan of InvestComics already knows, we have been a buyer for many years on anything Adam Warlock. Adam’s first appearance as “HIM” was in Fantastic Four #67 (1967). His first appearance as Warlock was in Marvel Premiere #1 (1972). Both of these comics and anything in-between are solid comics to own. This all said, having Jim back into the mix again is a good thing. He never disappoints and always delivers great storytelling. Alan Davis will provide the art and the Marco Rudy variant is sweet. Yes, all around a definite pick up this week.

Not only will Disney Kingdoms The Haunted Mansion #1 be a fantastic story, but Skottie Young is doing his thing with the variant cover. It’ll be sold out in no time.

InvestComics gave fans a heads up about Deadpool’s team Mercs For Money right HERE, HERE and HERE. Lots of first appearances in there! Now comes Spider-Man Deadpool #3. Guess who makes their first appearance in this series? Yep, Mercs For Money! Not only will the Mercs For Money be a team of serious validity eventually, but the Spider-Man Deadpool comic series will be one of longevity. Get the early issues now before they are in demand later on. Click HERE for all available Spider-Man/Deadpool comics on Ebay.
Some serious eye candy coming from Spider-Gwen #6. A Cap cover from Robbi Rodriguez and a variant Women Of Power Cover from Emanuela Lupacchino. And speaking of the Women Of Power covers, All-New Wolverine #6, Vanessa Del Rey cover is sold out.

New Suicide Squad #18 will come with a Tony Daniel Batman V Superman variant cover. It’s sold out.

DC’s Savage Dawn story line will be coming to a close very soon. The pre-finale Aaron Kuder Action Comics #50 cover is simply outstanding. And It looks like DC will be going with polybag Batman v Superman variant covers this week. We love the ‘ripped’ out eyes with the title of the comic. Detective Comics #50 will don the ripped eye cover as well. Great stuff here.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Mark Millar will introduce a new villain in Jupiter’s Circle #4 (Image Comics).
Writers John Ulloa and Al Bondiga, along with artist Juan Navarro bring us a story about a sadistic killer rabbit that only a 7 year old knows about. Sounds like fun! Get Tommy #1 from Creature Entertainment. One of the variants is sold out. If the Elasticator #1 (Scout Comics) cover is any indication on what is going on inside the comic, we are all in. Mikey from Brooklyn on that cover. Yes, more please. Scout Comics also delivers another sold out Henchgirl comic; Henchgirl #5. Action Lab Entertainment follows up their sold out Voracious comic with Voracious #2.

Robert E. Howards’ stories sure have legs, and Conan has entertained us in novels and film, animations and comics for quite some time now.  Most people are only familiar with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of the character, but there most certainly is more. The last time I read a Conan comic Roy Thomas was writing it and the character was still being published by Marvel.

Fred van Lente knows that every comic could be a readers first, as was the case for me with this one. This issue is just an example of damn good storytelling, and good comics craft. The book is well paced, and beautifully drawn by Brian Ching. Most notably is a splash page on pages 4 and 5 of a harem of lovely ladies that I am sure Mr. Ching took no smaller pleasure in drawing than I did in viewing.  The action is well done, with verve and great posing. The story is told in a third person narrative in the form of a letter warning of danger, revealing the underlying situation and moves the plot forward expertly and with beautiful language. I love seeing a creator employ the unique tools of the comics medium, and Van Lente uses a great dual narrative here, juxtaposing a beautiful visual story that goes between the macro plot of the current arc, and the micro story of this issue tying it all up expertly at the end.  I have not read other issues in this series, but this book will be going into my shopping cart on a regular basis from now on. If you love the comics form and good story you won’t want to take your eyes off this creative team, so hopefully you’ll enjoy it too.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.

Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which includes the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from sales made to thousands of comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world. Additional sales made to online merchants and other specialty retailers may be included as well.

Unit and dollar market shares are calculated based upon orders for comic books, graphic novels, and magazines invoiced and shipped to Diamond customers during any given month, which comprises pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable. Please note that comics marked with an asterisk (*) have had their reported quantities reduced due to retailer returnability, and thus may rank lower on the charts than their actual sales would reflect.

The New Titles Count Chart includes all titles that were invoiced by Diamond to retailers for the first time during the month and is not the official solicited title count for the month. Variant edition comic books and graphic novels at the same price point count as a single SKU. As all of the Creator Spotlights on InvestComics, each and every one of the creators have their own uniqueness. Rob Liefeld stormed into the industry back in 1987 and took the industry by the proverbial ears, starred into its eyes and said “I’m taking over.” So he he did.

He was one of the busiest creators in the industry at one time. The man was churning out comics at a ridiculous rate. That was good for the fans because they couldn’t seem to get enough.

Check out some of Rob Liefeld’s key books in his vast career thus far. Everything from Deadpool to Jada Pinkett Smith. Yes Jada….

Marc Spector, Moon Knight #19 (1990) A solo Rob Liefeld Moon Knight cover with Spider-Man and the Punisher.

New Mutants #98 (1991) Well here it is. The Holy Grail. Only fours years into his professional career, Rob hits on a character that will forever change his career and the Marvel character landscape. The cover alone has been paid respect to so many times throughout the years. Rob Liefeld introduced the world to Deadpool and Marvel had a character for the ages. Not much can be said about this comic and character that hasn’t been said already, but Rob is officially a superstar now.

X-Force #1 (1991) This comic was ridiculously hot back in the early 90’s. Too many copies released prevented it from gaining any substantial aftermarket heat. Rob pencils/inks and cover art. Many collectors these days go after the bagged issue with the Deadpool trading card. Claiming it’s an early appearance of Deadpool. It’s a card. Seriously, it’s a card, not a comic appearance.

Disclaimer: all comic recommendations are from a speculative vantage point. Not all comics are to guarantee a return on your investment. If you are here on the notion that you will make money ALL the time, you are in the wrong place. Please do not read this article. Although this article is used as a guide for investments, it’s more so for entertainment purposes. Any opinions or expression of investments in this article should be used at the sole discretion and judgment upon the investor, not InvestComics. So please use your own discretion when investing and have fun. Also; Not all comics will be chosen as an InvestComics Hot Pick for a particular week. There will in fact (guaranteed) to be some missed opportunities. The speculator not only has to be accountable forspeculative their gains and loses, but their own research as well. If the speculator is here with the thought that InvestComics will pick every comic that hits, even ones that sells out weeks later or become hot after the weekly article; is mistakenly off. This is in fact an entertainment/speculative site. Bottom line though, we have and always will be the best speculative web site on the planet.

What you are about to read is 100% authentic. This material is 100% original content from InvestComics and does not borrow from any article(s) or comic website(s) for its content. Anything you read  from here on any other site that seems similar probably and most likely originated from here.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 1/21/15

Wonder_Woman_InvestComicsStay tuned to InvestComics for a very special announcement on our Social Media outlets tomorrow at 1:30pm Eastern time. This is very big, so be sure to check it out!

Speaking of Social Media, be sure to join our “Investing in Comics 101 – IC Poet Society” Facebook page right HERE. There are some amazing nuggets being shared on there almost daily. Thanks to members like Giles Hargraves, Jamie Wright, Gary Conerly, Andres Sandoval, Jeremy Courtney, Billy Precht and a host of others. (If your name is not here, it was inadvertent, not intended to forget, just listing some members). Wouldn’t you like to be in the “know”? So ask to join the IC Poet Society and the door will open to a world full of fantastic speculation and fun.

As we have been saying for a couple of months now, changes are coming to the InvestComics website that will be tremendous. We are working behind the scenes to make a new world for all InvestComics fans to enjoy and benefit from. For many many years InvestComics has brought the luxury of giving fans their speculation information from a week to week basis without missing a beat and in return helping the speculator make money. Lots of it. The fans that understand the value of this information will benefit greatly. As too the new fan. The new speculator that comes on board will realize quickly how invaluable this information will be to them on a week in week out basis. Stay tuned for the birth of a new hub for speculators.

Our parent company; Capital Grading Services came back from the Miami Magic Con this weekend. There are some nice books that came out of there that are headed to CBCS. Two books in particular are ONE of a kind books that will have the grading community and fans of this genre buzzing. A photo of those books will go up soon. Truly is awesome. We cannot wait to share it with the Capital Grading Services and InvestComics fans.

Spider-Verse_InvestComics

We need not reiterate on here about the Spider-Verse saga going on, but there are constantly new speculators and readers coming to InvestComics so we will touch on it again. For those of you who are regular visitors here, listen up again. Buy anything Spider-Verse. Got it? That’s it. Oh yes, you want an explanation right? The reason is simple. There is one constant with the Spider-Verse books. Introductions and re-introductions of new Spider-Man characters almost every week. Last week it was Punk Spider-Man in Spider-Verse #2. Of course InvestComics was all over that one. Not knowing that Punk was in there, but letting the speculator know that they must buy it. We did poke fun of the idea of Gwen being a “spider-person”, but we made it a point to point it out to our readers! And just for the record, we still think it’s silly, nice turnover money, but our longer term money is on Silk. See how much we love the character Silk in previous articles here on InvestComics. So getting back on topic here, Amazing Spider-Man (2014 3rd Series) #13 will feature every single Spider-Man character in one comic. That’s boss. Who knows what will be happening in these pages? A quick cameo of a new spidey that strikes a cord with fans or maybe a reintroduction that does the same. Anything is possible within the Spider-Verse saga. Any book, any week. It’s a speculator and readers dream here. Fantastic fun to read and fantastic book(s) to speculate on. And don’t forget about Spider-Verse Team Up (2014) #3 this week too!

Batman_InvestComics_Bluebird

The Batman Eternal (2014) #42 book is slated for the debut of Bluebird. Maybe the debut in the Batman Eternal universe, but she actually first appeared in Batman #28 New 52. She’s kind of awesome too.

Batman_and_Robin_InvestComics Winter_Soldier_InvestComicsLast issue in Wonder Woman #37 was the debut of the new Donna Troy on the last page. David Finch and Meredith Finch are turning things around for this title. This week we get more of new Donna Troy in Wonder Woman (2011 4th Series) #38. Stay on top on this speculators. Readers are getting their monies worth here, maybe you will too.

Robin Rises: Omega #1 gave us confirmation that Robin may have superpowers now. See more of this story line in this weeks Batman and Robin (2011 2nd Series) #38.

Bucky takes a ride in the Marvel Universe future, 200 years to be exact. Check out Bucky Barnes Winter Soldier (2014) #4. An interesting read here indeed.

1st_Judge_Death_InvestComics Judge_Death_InvestComicsA couple of cool back issues to maybe search out if you’d like. Judge Death first appeared in 2000 AD #149 (1980). He’ll be in Judge Dredd Classics Dark Judges (2014) #1 this week. And the first appearance of Elfquest was in Fantasy Quarterly #1 (1978). Dark Horse will be giving readers Elfquest (2014 Dark Horse) 1 For $1 #1 this Wednesday.

Powers (2014 Icon) 4th Series #1 will forge ahead with its fourth series restart. Ahead of its premiere television series this time. InvestComics has touched on the Powers series a number of times since 2012. Look for a bump in the comics if the TV series does well.

Check out Dark Horse Presents (2014 3rd Series) #6. Matt Kindt and Scott Kolins debut a new space series called PastAways. Sounds like a fun read, you should check it out.

1st_Elfquest_InvestComics Elfquest_1_InvestComicsImage Comics debuts Reyn (2014 Image) #1. This is also a great looking story that collectors should check out. Look for sellouts on this book.

Here are the rest of the fantastic reads and possible speculation books coming this week. Henchmen I Henchbot (2014 Robot Paper) #1, Burning Fields (2014 Boom Studios) #1, Galaxy Quest The Journey Continues (2015 IDW) #1 and Creeple Peeple (2014 IDW) #1.

Invest wisely. Read comics.

Carpe Diem.

Free Comic Book Day 2015 Hot Picks

DIAMONDLOGOcolor

Free Comic Book Day will be on May 2 2015. So many cool comics to read and a few to speculate on too. There will be two tiers this year. The Gold Tier and the Silver Tier. The Gold tier comics will be available at every comic shop. The Silver tier comics will be available at select stores. So you know what this means right? If there are any possible speculative comics to maybe grab, it would be from the Silver pile because only comic shops that participated will be getting those particular books, thus leading to the possibility of a shortage on a demanded free comic.

Let’s check out some of the speculative highlights.

FCBD300W

Click on the RED links or comic covers to buy/bid on Ebay. Most of these comics are not available yet. Come back here after new comic book day if you missed out on any of the books you wanted. The links should bring a better search then.

Gold Tier

Dark Circle Comics Preview – Archie Comic Publications

Archie Comics is about to turn it up a notch in 2015. InvestComics did an interview with Alex Segura: Senior Vice President of publicity/marketing of Archie Comics in September right HERE. Alex told us then that there are very big plans for Archie Publications. We know this and are on board 100 percent. There have been some naysayers over the years that InvestComics has encountered on its platform regarding Archie Comics. Not quite sure why that is exactly, but uninformed collectors do not see a value in the speculative marketplace and that could not be further from the truth. Those people will be eating their words by this time next year. Please quote InvestComics on this if you’d like. Archie Comics will in fact arrive in 2015. This Dark Circle imprint is only a backdrop that will eventually lead to bigger things as well for the soon to be 75 year old company. More on why and on Archie Comics on InvestComics in the near future, stay tuned…..

Fight Club – Dark Horse Comics

There are several stories going on in this free preview book. The Goon (new story), The Strain (New story from Guillermo del Toro) and the premiere of the Fight Club. This is a good one to pick up.

Dark_Circle_Fight_Cluc_InvestComics

Meet some of these guys and get them to sign your book (witnessed of course) and grade it. You’ll have a one of a kind!

PAPERCUTZ_LADYJUSTICE Wheel_of_Worlds_InvestComicsDC Comics

They remain mum here as well on the Silver side. Get your fix on what they’re up to by visiting freecomicbookday.com.

Avengers #1 – Marvel Comics

Marvel isn’t very secretive about their plans. Check out the Avengers #1 comic for free. And the best part of this freebie is the a “new threat”? Is this an introduction? If it is, you better get this.

All and all a terrific free comic book day is headed our way. So many comics to read, so little time! Well we make time to read, but so little time before May 6 hits!

Be sure to bring the little ones if you have any. Comic books are a very good reading tool for the children. Have them read the Shakra comic to you or any comic they look interested in, it’s amazing to share the excitement with a child this way. It’s like Christmas in May!

Read wisely. Carpe Diem.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 9/3/14

[scrollGallery id=369]

There are foregone conclusions in life. The one that we all try hardest to elude is death. No matter how hard we try, we all will eventually meet our ultimate demise. No way around this one folks. It’s going to happen. However, the death card- foregone conclusion does not hold water within the comic book world. Wolverine will start the ultimate conclusion to his life beginning this week in Death of Wolverine (2014) #1. The death will stir the pot a bit, but will simply not hold for the long hall. Wolverine equals money and Disney isn’t about to give that up. So what to do as a fan? Well for one; enjoy the story put forth before you. It’s probably going to be a great one! As a speculator, well there are literally about 13 variants (at last count) that stand before you. If you’re a savvy investor and stay on top of the InvestComics Hot Picks each week, you’ll know what to do exactly. If you’re a first timer here, all I can say is choose wisely. There are simply too many variants to cover, but I can tell you one thing. It will be short lived, so you better turn over the comics quick. There is one sold out variant and that one goes to the sketch Deadpool variant. That variant alone will cost you around $350. That’s a bit much. Money better spent on a nice Bronze Age first appearance someplace. It’s your money though. If you buy that $350 book, you better have a good plan to get rid of it.

DC Comics wants to out duel Marvel this week so they go back to the well with their 3D covers. There is absolutely no redeeming value to these amazingly awesome 3D comics as far as monetary value goes. It’s a passing fad and will be as big as the Bombshell covers were, or the selfie covers. Yes you get the idea. Take a pass on these if you’re thinking of a spec market spike. There will however probably be ONE or TWO that will break through to cause an aftermarket bump. A short lived gimmick will bring a few extra bucks to your pocket, so the same applies here as did the Death of Wolverine. Choose wisely. Here is a quick checklist with images of which 3D covers are headed your way.

Check out the zany/fun and Sold Out variant comic God Hates Astronauts (2014 Image) #1 this Wednesday. No more left at Diamond so you better get a copy if you think it’s a keeper. Another sold out comic hitting the shelf this week is Silent Hill Downpour Annes Story (2014) #1. Don’t look for too much on the spec side with this comic though.

Since the inception of InvestComics back in 2005 I have recommended Moon Knight countless times, everything from Werewolf by Night, Marvel Spotlight, to the Stephen Platt run and many more. All of those comics have showed some decent progress over time. I will continue to inform anyone that reads this column each week that you need to get your Moon Knight Comics in order. He will eventually come to fruition and hit the big screen. When it is announced one day, these books will explode beyond a price range that makes sense to buy for the savvy speculator. So with that, in this week’s Moon Knight (2014 5th Series) #7 fans are introduced to a new villain.

Disney based comic Figment has been selling very well. Figment (2014) #4 will reveal the origin of Dreamfinder and Figment.

Alice Cooper (2014 Dynamite) #1 will start a new ongoing series written by the amazing Joe Harris. Alice Cooper is no stranger to comics. Check out his first appearance in the Marvel title Marvel Premiere #50 (1979). Mr. Cooper had an actual hand in writing that book too. Awesome Terry Austin cover as well!

Dark Horse Comics puts together two unlikely characters; Grendel and the Shadow in Grendel vs Shadow (2014) #1. Although the Shadow is a cool teammate, Grendel is total badas*. Grendel’s first appearance was in Primer #2 (1983). A once very hot commodity way back in the day still shows signs of life on Ebay. A recent 9.6 CGC graded sold for $250. Primer #2 consistently sells on Ebay, which is a great sign. Why Grendel isn’t on the big screen yet is puzzling. If you can get your hands on one of these, do yourself a favor and do so. It’s a winner and an investment all the way.

Number One (2014 Aazurn) #1 will be a great read. Look for this one shot to sell out. A disturbing new Vertigo title will be of interest to check out; Names (2014 DC/Vertigo) #1. Ex Con (2014 Dynamite) #1, Cloaks (2014 Boom) #1, and Death Defying Dr Mirage (2014 Valiant) #1 will be worth a look as well.

Want off the wall, funny, wacky this week? Look no further than Hawkeye vs Deadpool (2014) #0. This will be a must read.

Be sure to visit the InvestComics Instagram page. A lot of cool comics up for sale!

See you next week. Actually not! InvestComics will be at the Baltimore Comic Con!! Look for A LOT of POST from the show on the InvestComics Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Google Plus and Tumblr pages!! We’ll bring Baltimore Comic Con to you!

Additional sales made to online merchants and other specialty stores may be included as well.

Variant edition comic books, lenticular covers, digital combo packs, and graphic novels at different price points count as separate SKUs for each edition.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 4/23/14

A few of the new comics this Wednesday will bring with them some debuts. It’s been a while within the InvestComics Hot Picks that we have had a week like this, so let’s relish in it for a bit!

Okay done relishing? Let’s get to business shall we?

One of the highlights this week has to go to Justice League United (2014) #0. There has been a lot of talk regarding the debut of Justice League Canada team and a major new Canadian character beginning with Justice League United #1. A special Justice League Canada #1 cover will also be in the mix regarding the new team. The fact is that DC’s version of Alpha Flight AND “Equinox” will both debut in the number zero issue, not the number one issue. So with this in mind, buy the new JLC #0 so that you’ll have the true first appearances. Then again, with the whole “cameo” nonsense within the speculation market, maybe you’re better off covering your butt and buying that number one issue when it comes out too! All of this to ponder (not really that hard, just kidding) with a $40 variant sitting out there! Your call on that one……

[scrollGallery id=347]

The Aquaman series is still going strong. A bit of a surprise no? Check out Aquaman (2011 5th Series) #30 for the debut of the New 52 version of Hercules. Not much you can change on that dude right? Come on DC, surprise us some more.

Looks like Marvel will be debuting new characters and reinventing some things in their soft relaunch of sorts. Daredevil (2014 4th Series) #2 will be introducing some new villain(s) (maybe) and will also have a forgotten Marvel hero come from the past and shake things up a bit. Fantastic Four (2014 5th Series) #3 will have the debut of the team called the Wrecking Crew. Check out their first appearance way back in 1974’s Defenders #17.

Elektra gets her third crack at her own series this week. Elektra (2014 3rd Series) #1 will come with several variants, but one stands against the rest for good reason. Mr. Elektra himself Bill Sienkiewicz will have a variant cover to buy if you’re interested. At a steep $60, it’s still a nice variant to pick up, grade/signature series with CGC, and hold onto it for a while. It will appreciate right away, but more so over time. The man is a legend. Daredevil #168 (1981) features the debut of Elektra. It’s still a well sought after book. It’s a gradual book to own, just like the Bill Sienkiewicz variant. Like a fine wine, ages with time!

There are two amusing Marvel solicitations to point out this week. Maybe not amusing to some, but still worth noting nonetheless. Iron Patriot (2014 Marvel) #2 bluntly states “James Rhodes dies”. How’s that to sell some books? How about the Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #14 solicit dubbing Brian Michael Bendis as the “cosmic captain”. While we all love Mr. Bendis, and no disrespect here, but if he’s the captain, the General is Jim Starlin. Just saying.

Anyone remember how My Little Pony from IDW caught everyone by surprise in the spec market? Well don’t get caught without your hay in the barn again! Hasbro designer/illustrator of My Little Pony Gayle Middleton has created a new pony! Ghost Pony’s! Just be sure to spend an extra $3.99 this week to pick up Vamplets Undead Pet Society (2014) #1 from Action Lab Entertainment. There is a huge payday hidden here IF the numbers are right. Gayle Middleton will have a variant that is limited to 1000 copies. The variant is $4.99. Good luck finding that. If for some reason nothing pans out. Give the comic to your sister, niece, girlfriend, or donate it if you want. It’s only a $4.99 risk here.

(Insert sarcasm here) Another MAJOR event is on the horizon for Marvel. Original Sin (2014 Marvel) #0 will be the comic event equivalent to “Who shot J.R.?”. If you don’t know what that means, I’m truly showing my age. Google it, but anyhow, Nova runs up on a dead Watcher and someone killed him. Whodunit?! The Watcher knows, but he’s dead.

Secret Origins was always a fun read from DC Comics. Check out Secret Origins (2014) 3rd Series #1 as they bring back the awesomeness of things we didn’t know about our heroes/villains.

Also check out 7th Sword (2014) #1 from IDW Publishing and Conan Avenger (2014) #1 from Dark Horse Comics.

American Eagle_ScalpedLastly, a few weeks ago on March 18th I released a special article called “InvestComics Hot Picks Special: Speculating Marvel Comics – B Sides”. Within the article I mention this about the American Eagle character from Marvel Comics – …..”There is an influx of African American/female/foreign characters leading the way. Why not focus on an American Indian? Why not have a character that represents the foundations of America a mainstay within the Marvel Universe?” Well this past week InvestComics reported on the DC Vertigo title Scalped getting the development nod from WGN. You can check out that quick snippet right HERE.  Not to toot my own horn here, but things like this happen on InvestComics quite often. Sometimes there are misfires too, but there are more hits than misses around here. Stay close always; you never know what’s coming next!

…….Like Namor, yeah Namor. He’s going to be some sort of a factor. Be it now or in the not so distant future, but watch out for him. I’ve mentioned this before. This is a gut. Who knows…….?

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 4/2/14

The InvestComics Hot Picks are back! Although a very short version this week, I’ll be more on track in the coming weeks. I’m working on a HUGE InvestComics Hot Picks Special. You’re going to love it!

Last weekend InvestComics was at the Orlando MegaCon 2014. That show keeps getting bigger and more awesome every year! Special thanks to Beth and Christine for allowing InvestComics to cover their event for the fourth year straight! Thank you!

I put together the short video below that features random video clips and images of the show. The InvestComics Facebook page and Instagram was packed full of live coverage from the show. If you are not on board yet following us on all of the social media listed above, you really should get crackin’! Lots of cool stuff going on there, including comic book giveaways!

Enjoy the video!

[bliptv AYOe81AA.x?p]

There are a total of 11 number ones featured on the Hot Picks. There is not another number available this week here. All number ones!

The one(s) to look out for? Inhuman (2014 Marvel) #1 should be right up there on top of your list. There are 6 covers that accompany the release of this book. Marvel is very high on calling this the next phase of their comic book universe. Yes we’ve all heard it before, but this looks special for some reason. ……..Although, I’m not quite sold on the $75 variant, too much on something that is simply a startup of a new universe for Marvel. If Marvel gives up on the direction then you lose on that expensive variant. If they don’t and it’s a hit, well you’re a big risk taker speculator that deserves kudos.

[scrollGallery id=342]

Everything Guardians of the Galaxy is a very big deal these days. This Wednesday we get a brand new Guardians book that is a prelude to the movie; Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude (2014) #1. I said it before like I have said on here about 50 times. The Guardians of the Galaxy movie will be the make or break going forward for Marvel Studios. If the movie doesn’t fair as well as they are counting on, things will slow down on the Marvel gravy train moving forward. Guardians MUST do well in order to carry the momentum for Marvel to do what they need to do as far as the Cosmic universe and their other movies. This movie is very important people, pay attention.

Two of the most overused characters in recent times will come together in one comic to kick each other asses. Check out Deadpool vs Carnage (2014) #1. Not so much for the spec here, just flat out fun. Same hold true for the new What If? Book; What If Age of Ultron (2014) #1. What if? comics have always been great reads.

DC likes the resurgence of their water man hero Aquaman. So much so that their going with a new number one with him. Check out Aquaman and The Others (2014) #1. Yes Aquaman is cool again, but he won’t be in a few years again when no one cares about him again. Unless a part in a movie? Aquaman and Namor await their turn, but it will probably be Marvel Studios who attacks the sea first and begins that universe someday. That’s unless Guardians tanks, scratch that off the list.

Three number one Image Comics coming this week and we all know how well number one Image Comics do in this market. Field (2014 Image) #1, Shotgun Wedding (2014) #1, and 68 Rule of War (2014) #1.

Caliban (2014 Avatar) #1 from writer Garth Ennis will be one to keep an eye on. Boom Studios Dead Letters (2014) #1 and from Dark Horse Comics; Itty Bitty Hellboy (2014) 1 For $1.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to share the InvestComics MegaCon 2014 video!

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 3/5/14

[scrollGallery id=337]

Marvel Comics will go back to the well this week with another Moon Knight Series attempt; Moon Knight (2014 5th Series) #1. Will it work this time? Will the new series exceed the proverbial magic number of 60? You see, Marc Spector has never seen an issue after number 60. 38 was his second high score. Now granted, some of his 16 or so series have been limited series, reprints, team-ups or utter failures in the ongoing series department. There are some characters within comic companies that see early success and or have a cult like following, so the companies cater to those in need of the hero/villain once in a while with the high hopes that more fans will latch on. It happens all the time. Failure usually happens too all the time. Moon Knight is the classic case in point here. But with all of the television and movie executives breathing down every cornerstone of every cinderblock within the comic book entertainment industry, Moon Knight is bound to get picked up. If you’re an old school follower of InvestComics, you will know that I have been saying this for years. Moon Knight is Marvel’s answer to DC’s Batman. The Dark Knight vs. The White Knight. What better way can Marvel stick it to DC than to have a successful run on the White Knight on some entertainment medium outlet level? Be it a TV show or a movie. Of course Marvel has absolutely nothing to prove these days to anyone, but Moon Knight would make a nice addition to an already successful run.

Let’s just assume for a moment that Marvel is going to green light Moon Knight as a major motion picture. What approach do they take? Well there isn’t much choice in the style/ambiance/feel you can go with except one; dark. It would mark one of the first major Marvel Studios films (new era) to be a darker/grittier feature. So where to reference from you may ask? There are two places and these are guarantees in the spec market IF Moon Knight ever gets green lit. Grab your pen and paper folks, these are LOCKS. The first spot they will look is 1993. In 1993 Moon Knight received his “Miller/McFarlane/Lee/Johns” on his book. The character finally got an identity like the previous aforementioned creators did for their characters. A mere mention of McFarlane and your mind is on Spider-Man. Miller and you go to Batman/Daredevil. You get the idea here. His name was Stephen Platt. Platt essentially became THE Moon Knight guy on Moon Knight #55 (1993). Anyone that was to ever follow will have to follow his lines. But it took about 13 years for the next creator to step up to the plate and except Platt’s challenge. In 2006 David Finch accepted the challenge and redefined the character once more in Moon Knight #1 (2006). Without a shadow of a doubt, IF Moon Knight ever sees the light of day, these two comic books will in fact (not fact really, but boy am I confident here) be the reference points to lead the way. Buy these comics now for minimal monies; you have nothing to lose really. It’s such an affordable book that it won’t even hit your wallet hard at all. Buy the David Finch variant, get it signed and graded too while you’re at it.

And one more Moon Knight comic to buy, a must actually; Werewolf by Night #32 (1975). That of course is the first appearance of Moon Knight. By all accounts, a pricey book for a character that hasn’t seen that much success at all. Odd isn’t it? I leave you with a quick nugget about Moony, then we must move on. Did you know that one of the first ever comics to go Direct was Moon Knight #15 (1982)? Check out that Frank Miller/Joe Jusko cover. Interior art by Bill Sienkiewicz. What a beauty of a book.

So stock up on Moon Knight because this might be the time that Hollywood finally comes a’ knockin’ so be prepared. And let’s also hope that this series doesn’t face the ominous fate that Scottie Young’s Moon Knight Variant has suffered.

Speaking of suffering an ill demised ending, rumors are swirling all over the place regarding Forever Evil (2013 DC) #6. Will Nightwing bite the dust? Does this really matter? We all know he’s going to be in the new Batman vs. Superman film, so he will come back JUST in time for the movie release. His death will spark an uptick in the market, but as quickly as it does, it will fall. Get this comic and sell it. Get it out of your hands asap.

She-Hulk (2014 3rd Series) #2 will guest star Hellcat. Check out her first appearance as Hellcat in Avengers #144 (1976) done up by some guy named George Perez. (Sarcasm here of course).

IDW will release Rogue Trooper (2014) #1 this week as a new ongoing series. Rouge Trooper first appeared in 2000AD #228 (1981). Some guy named Dave Gibbons was the co-creator. (Sarcasm once again).

Archie Comics makes their way onto the InvestComics Hot Picks list this week. Mega Man (2011 Archie) #34 will introduce Mega Man X.

Definite number one issues to keep on your radar this Wednesday. The very first Millarworld Universe comic, Starlight (2014 Image) #1. Tales of Honor (2014 Image) #1 will have a sold out sign on it, as will Veil (2014 Dark Horse) #1.

And the rest….Auteur (2014 Oni Press) #1Batman Superman (2013 DC) Annual #1, Darkness Vicious Traditions (2014 Image) #1, and Evil Empire (2014 Boom) #1.

In the “enough already” department, Magneto (2014) #1 and Wolverine and the X-Men (2014) #1. Probably going to be excellent fun reads, but no power behind them to ever sustain in the aftermarket.

Invest wisely, Carpe Diem.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 12/11/13

Just a couple of weeks ago, InvestComics were making a statement on how important the Marvel Cosmic Universe will be in a very short while. Actually, InvestComics was reiterating what we have been saying for 7 years now. The particular comic and character we were speaking of was Nova. This week Nova comes into the fold once again. Nova (2013 5th Series) #11 promises to give readers of the Cosmic likeness a very very big surprise in this issue. Not sure what it is, even if I did know, I wouldn’t spoil it. The Marvel Cosmic Universe will have the Marvel U feel the effects, so buckle in tight fans. This is the beginning of what InvestComics has warned you about for years. The Marvel Cosmic Universe is about to take center stage. You best be on top of your Cosmic game.

[scrollGallery id=323]

Uncanny X-Men (2013 3rd Series) #15 will be an Inhumanity tie in with a “new comer” on board. The name is Kris Anka. One of the earliest works of this fine artist can be found in the Image graphic novel PopGun (2007). His earliest comic work came in Guarding the Globe #6 (Image Comics 2011).

Staying on topic with new creators in new places, check out Marvel Knights Hulk (2013) #1 with writer Joe Keatinge and artist Piotr Kowalski. If you are in the market for first works of newer creators, InvestComics can help you out with this one. Joe Keatinge’s first professional work as a colorists came in Masters of the Universe #4 (MVCreations 2004). His first writing duties came in Image Comics’ Ant #8 (2006). As for artist Piotr Kowalski; his first creative output came in his native country Poland in a book by the name Wiat Komiksu #4 (Egmont Polska 1998). His first American stint came in 2011 with Boom Studios’ Malignant Man #1 (2011). So not only do you get a great read with MKH #1 this week, but you get the inside scoop with the creators too from InvestComics. Mighty Avengers (2013) #4 Inhumanity tie in brings readers the New Ronin. The original Ronin first appeared in New Avengers #11 (2005) with that beauty of a David Finch cover. Huntress will be trailing a new villain in Worlds Finest (2012 3rd Series) #18. Check out who that will be. Looks like Owlman has some plans for Ultraman this week in Justice League (2011) #25. In the “in case you missed it department”, Justice League of America #29 (1964) gives us the first ever Ultraman. Doc Savage will get another crack at his own book this week in Doc Savage (2013 Dynamite) #1. The Doc may be appearing on the big screen as rumors do swirl all the time. Will it ever happen? If it does, look for a quick bump and then a quick flat line in his first appearance; Doc Savage magazine #1 (1933).

Comedy break; Two very funny solicits hit this week that have to make the reader/collector smile. First there was Superman Wonder Woman (2013) #3. The verbiage here reads “the ending of this comic is so shocking that it could mean the end of Superman and Wonder Woman together.” Really??! Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries may trump these two? We’re only three issues in DC please don’t threaten us with this already. Stop it, please. Too funny. Then you have Wolverine (2013 4th Series) #12. The verbiage reads like this “…the storyline the will change Wolverine as we know him forever!” Really??! Okay.

Now that we had our laugh, let’s get back to some other comics to check out this week. Three must get number one comics this week are sold out and will definitely see second prints following shortly. Krampus (2013 Image) #1, Lunita (2013 Amigo) #1, and Dead Body Road (2013 Image) #1. And for anyone keeping score here, Dead Body Road #1 will be written by Justin Jordan of the highly successful Luther Strode comic. A bit of a surprise with the almost sold out (will be probably by Friday/Saturday) Legends Dark Knight 100 Page Super Spectacular (2013) #1 this week. The reason for the surprise is the $9.99 price tag that accompanies the 100 page of goodness here. Fans are excited about the 100 pager for only $9.99 I guess. Way to go DC! Batman Black and White (2013) #4 brings in some fantastic talent once again. A must get every time it comes out. The future is now with Justice League 3000 (2013) #1. For no other reason than the super talents of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis on this book, it’s a must check out comic. Uttering the words “new hero” or “new villain” is music to InvestComics’ ears. Check out Cataclysm Ultimate Spider-Man (2013) #2 for the sweet sounds of a new hero. Origin issues are fun too. Check out Astro City (2013 3rd Series) #7 for the origin of Winged Victory.

Here’s a quick list of sold out or about to be sold out number 1 and number 2 comics from this upcoming week (Special thanks to Terry Hoknes for drawing this list up every week!!): Steampunk Cinderella (2013) #1, Code Red (2013 Zenescope) #1, Protectors Inc (2013 Image) #2, Day Men (2013 Boom) #2, Indestructible (2013 IDW) #1, Drumhellar (2013 Image) #2, Halo Escalation (2013) #1, Sherlock Holmes Moriarty Lives (2013 Dynamite) #1, Grimm The Warlock (2013) #1, and Brain Boy (2013 Dark Horse) #0.

That’s it, see you next week. Remember the contest! Let’s get InvestComics to 3000!

Invest wisely,

Jay Katz

HOTTEST New Comic Hot Back Issues During early June 2013

Top 90 Hottest Comic Titles during June 1-15 2013 – list by Terry Hoknes of HoknesComics.com

HotComics2013JuneLogo

This list is compiled from my non-stop research of the current market.   I believe these were the most demand and growing in value books this month.     I did not focus on variants specifically as I can’t even keep track of them all.    If you think I have missed any titles please let me know.  I am updating this list every 2 weeks.  You will be amazed at how much can change in one month good and bad.

Summer is here and there is really no major changes in the industry for hot titles except the addition of a couple new recent books that sold out and have quick gains – The Last Of Us and Six Gun Gorilla.   What we see is mostly a continuation of interest in the same books but mostly at a reduced price.   I expect this will stay true for the next 5 months but the big question is will prices and interest pick up again for these books in the fall.   Some fear the speculation boom of 2012/2013 has peaked and is now over.  It is possible however there will always be certain books that go up in value in any time period simply based on supply and demand.

Here are my picks of what I believe are the hottest comics at this very moment from all sold releases of the last few years online based on back issue sales ABOVE cover price.

#1 INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US (DC) – the only hot DC title small print runs and 3rd prints selling out.  Peaked in May at $85.00 for set of #1-4      Many sellers with reprint sets that also sell well.   #1 2nd printing hit $12.00   #1 $40 #2 $25 #3 $8 #4 $5 #5 $4

#2 THE LAST OF US (DARK HORSE) – New title on the list.  #1 sold out – tie-in to video g ame.  1st print up to $20 and 2nd print at $7.00.  #2 1st print at $7.00.  Top two comics are both based on video games!

#3 THE WALKING DEAD (Image) #108 1st app Ezekiel and #110 origin and battle of Ezekiel with Michonne.  All back issues #1-110 are sold out and bring above cover prices.  #92 and #93 extremely hot at  $30.00 each.   Retailers upped their orders yet again starting with #109 onwards after the sellout of #108.  This is the highest print runs have ever been (not counting #100).

#4 PETER PANZERFAUST (Image) #1-9 prices peaked in March.  #8 and #9 really hot but less demand for #4-6.    #1 hit high of $300 now around $200.00   Current prices #2 $60 / #3 $20 / #4-7 $10 each / #8 $20 / #9 $20

#5 NOWHERE MEN (Image) #1-3 prices had peaked at $40,25,15 in March.    Set of #1-5 now sells for $60.00   #1 $30 / #2 $20 / #3 $10 / #4 $3 / #5 $3

#6 RACHEL RISING (Abstract) #1-16     TV announcement this week helped drive demand up as Diamond sold out of even the current issue not yet out this week.  #1 hitting $200.00 peak around May 1st.   Many issues still available direct from publisher website at cover.   #1 settled down now to about $70.00.    Sellers hyping rarity of 2nd and 3rd printings and getting high amounts as well.

#7 THE SIXTH GUN (Oni) – all 29 issues sold out – many not even on ebay and low print runs.  sold a #1 for $250 in Mid April.  #1 now at $90.00

#8 EAST OF WEST (Image) #1 Hot as a pre-seller and has stabilized at $7.00.   4th printing already and sets of #1-2 sell well.

#9 SIX GUN GORILLA (BOOM) New on the list.  New #1 issue of mini-series based on golden age character quickly sold out and selling at $10.00 within a week of release.

#10 SAGA #1-12    #1 still super hot at about $80 down from peak of $100 – all issues in demand even with high print runs.  #12 was hot for a moment when banned by Apple.

#11 BATMAN #1 5 7 9 – sold out issues averaging $20.00 each and #1 sells for $50.00.  Complete sets of #1-10 bring $150.00.  Batman is the #1 selling regular monthly comic book these days and it is the most valuable “complete set” of all current titles.

#12 HAWKEYE #1-10   The only hot back issue Marvel title with all issues in multiple printings.  #1 now settled at about $25.00.   Almost every issue has been reprinted.  New issues still sell out.

#13 ADVENTURE TIME – animated cartoon series – numerous printings now.   #1 is truly rare – no sellers on ebay even have a copy for sale.   $50 to $100 per copy of #1 first print.  #2 currently in the $20-30 range.  #3 $10.  #1-6 have been reprinted with connecting cover image.   #1-6 and #9-10 sold out from diamond.

#14 POLARITY #1-2   Small print run instantly to a 2nd printing.  #1 sells for $10

#15 BATGIRL #13 – death of family storyline – these sold out and huge price increases in some areas up to $30

#16 BATMAN #13 / death of family storyline – these sold out and huge price increases in some areas up to $40

#17 THIEF OF THIEVES #1-12    Early issues still super hot – value peaked in January but still selling well

#18 REVIVAL (Image) #1-10   Early issues still hot but definitely cooled in value from Jan/Feb peak of #1 $45.00

#19 HOAX HUNTERS (Image) this title was cover price material until a TV show proposal shot prices way up on all issues.  #0 and #1 are extremely hot and hit $30 each.

#20 UBER #0-1-2    Sold out both printings instantly.  Future is unpredictable – more speculators than readers bought this.  Some amazing variant covers make it a big job to collect every cover version of each issue.   Almost all copies and printings are $8 or higher.    #0 has a 2nd printing called “enhanced edition”.

#21 MIND MGMT (Dark Horse) #1-10   #1 is really the only valuable issue at $40 but easy to sell sets at $80.  Very low print run.

#22 THINK TANK (Image) #1-5.  #1 sold out immediately and no one seems to have a copy.  2nd printings are more common.  #1 1st in the $15-20 range.   News of a new movie broke this week which might push prices up.

#23 NIGHTWING #4 (DC) 2012 – hot key issue from this Robin/Batman series.  $25.00 for this key issue.

#24 FIVE GHOSTS – HAUNTING OF FABIAN GRAY (Image) Mini series #1 and #2 sold out and 2nd printings – rumour of ongoing series.   #1 at $7.00

Thanks to John Jackson Miller at www.comichron.com  for the initial Diamond sales figures data – see complete monthly Diamond sales chart and more stats at this site !

I am always happy to hear your comments and thoughts/criticisms on any of my posts.

Terry Hoknes (author) of Hoknes Comics loves analyzing statistics and watching the growth and fall of comic titles over a period of time.  He sells all of the latest hot back issue secondary market new comics at www.HoknesComics.com and also self-publishes a series of books called “Investing In Comic Books” that focus on the Golden, Silver and Bronze ages of comics.   hoknes@hotmail.com

RAREST COMIC BOOKS of 2009-2012

THE RAREST / SMALLEST PRINT COMICS OF 2009-2012

SALES MARKET REPORT by Terry Hoknes hoknes@hotmail.com

Diamond publishes a list of the 300 best selling comics each month which is where these statistics are compiled from.

If a comic sold very poorly it may not have even made the top 300 list so we are only using data for those comics that did make the chart.

Here are a sample of the Top 10 worst/lowest sales for various comics from the main publishers during the past 4 years.

On one level this just proves these titles are not popular BUT it also will prove in the long run to be the rarest comics to collect as back issues in the future.
