InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release 10-30-13

[scrollGallery id=316]

There was a comic book run that basically changed the landscape of comic books as we know them some 24 years ago. That comic book run was DC’s (Vertigo) Sandman from 1989. The ebb and flow of storytelling in comic books were changed forever in 1989. This was due for the reason of one man, Neil Gaiman. Neil is a storyteller; he has a pulse on what the reader yearns for. He sets moods, changes, flow and so much more. There are not enough words to describe this man’s legendary status. And quite frankly he doesn’t need words; he’s done enough for himself to establish his legend status in the comic book genre and in the publishing world as well. This week Neil visits familiar territory. Yes that’s right you guessed it, Sandman. Sandman Overture (2013) #1 will probably not break new ground, but what it will do is spark the interest of readers and collectors alike. Then again, maybe it will break new ground? Who knows with Mr. Gaiman? Here’s the nuts and bolts here folks, DC has spoken of Vertigo titles making it onto the big screen for a while now. What better way to start than right here, with Neil Gaiman’s Sandman? There have been many predictions within the InvestComics Hot Picks that have come to fruition (some not too), but to say that Sandman will definitely make it to a movie theater is not that far of a stretch, but it WILL happen. Sandman will become a film one day, and not only will it be spectacular, it will send the aftermarket into an absolute frenzy. This is why a collector should be on top on the 1989 Sandman #1 comic right now. Another book to be on top of is the Sandman Overture #1 variant from Dave McKean, a cool $125 for that variant, but can easily double with a 9.8 grade, and triple with a signature series. Not only will the Sandman Overture #1 heighten the interest of the already famous 1989 book, the movie to come will catapult it even more so. Thank me later. Don’t forget to let everyone know that InvestComics alerted you out on this one.

The recent “demise” of Damian was short lived and now the character has his own book coming out! Death in comics really doesn’t mean much, but you know this already. Anyways, Damian Son of Batman (2013) #1 will bring back the son of Bruce for a limited series, and then for sure a regular series down the line we’re guessing. Whether you’re a fan or not of the Damian character, one will have to stand up a bit and pay attention here. The character is a hot commodity, the collector should embrace this. The reader should just ignore him if they aren’t interested. The collector’s battle over the true first appearance of Damian rages on behind the scenes, but here’s the skinny. The only true answer lies within the money if you’re a speculator. The birth of Damian happened in Batman: Son of a Demon #1 in 1988 (not in DC continuity? Then maybe it is?), but according to the folks at CGC, they say that Batman #655 (2006) is the recognized cameo of Damian. The first full appearance of Damian is Batman #656. So with that, regardless of how the argument may want to flow, CGC is setting the precedence on the Batman comics #655 and #656 as the cameo and first, and this is where the money is going to be found because of the little inscription on the top of the casing. Buy the first Damian. It’s an uptick comic for years to come. Oh yes, one last thing. Pick up the Damian Son of Batman #1 Andy Kubert sketch variant at $60, grade it make money, simple as that. And finally from DC Comics this week, Forever Evil Argus (2013) #1 is sold out. The Forever Evil campaign continues to kill it on the shelves, well semi-disappear really. As the previous InvestComics Hot Picks have stated with the Forever Evil storyline, unless there is a major holy sh*t moment that really takes the genre by surprise, there will be no redeeming value (speculator) in any of the Forever Evil titles down the line. The true redeeming value here is a fantastic storyline.

Damian first appearance

Marvel Comics stays busy this week with comics like Captain America Living Legend (2013) #2. This book will introduce an alien like thing. Not sure exactly what, but check it out. And look at that awesome cover too! Dan Slott promises that the new Superior Spider-Man (2012) #20 will seriously shake things up. As if things haven’t been shaken already?! Be sure to grab a copy to see how things are playing out. Another shake up looks to be occurring in Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #8. Peter Quill will betray the entire Marvel Universe? Okay we’re interested. Cataclysm (2013 Marvel) #0.1 would be nice to write about, but the Marvel solicit is “classified”. The variant is sold out though, know that much! The new Bryan J.L. Glass Thor Crown of Fools (2013) #1 will be sold out on Thursday. Be sure to have your copy in hand or in your pull box.

Ash and the Army of Darkness return this week in Ash and the Army of Darkness (2013) #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. Talks of a new movie will boost interest for the original Ash and the Army of Darkness #1 from 1992. That’s 21 years ago. Feel old yet? The comic is mostly sold out across the board. Archie Comics had a huge success with the recent Archie zombie book Afterlife with Archie #1 (InvestComics informed that you’d get the variants, hope you did!). So what’s next to come you may ask? How about Fox (2013 Red Circle) #1? Yep, the Fox is running amuck and its best you catch it! Preferably the variant! Fox #1 is another hot comic folks. Don’t believe it? Check by Friday and see if there are any variants left for you. Oh yes, check Ebay on those, they’ll be over there probably. Incidentally, in case anyone is interested. Fox first appeared in Blue Ribbon Comics #4 way back in 1940. Good luck ever seeing that comic in your lifetime in near mint condition or in your lifetime period. There are a few comics that should be on your radar due to the low number left or their sold out status. Wildwork (2013 Antarctic Press) #1, Adventure Time Spoooktacular (2013) #1,and Wilder (2013 Monsterverse) #0.

Amazing artist Marc Silvestri pays homage to himself this week with the cover on Witchblade (1995) #170. If the cover doesn’t ring a bell (How could it not??!!), it’s original concept cover was featured on the Uncanny X-Men #251 with Wolverine stuck on the X and not a W. Awesome cover on both Marc!! See below to marvel in the beauty.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to share InvestComics across the social media because not only is it cool to do, but you can win some awesome prizes too! Batman The Dark Knight #23.4 Joker’s Daughter #1 SIGNED by artist Georges Jeanty and Excalibur #1 SIGNED by legend Chris Claremont!!

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for New Comic Releases on 10-23-13

New York Comic Con 2013 rundown: (don’t fret, InvestComics Hot Picks below too!)

Back from the New York Comic Con! Another year in the books, and boy was this year’s show spectacular. InvestComics along with Rafael Rosario of RatchetCity Comics dominated the floor with images, as well as come away with a few interviews. Interviews with the creative team of the hit animated series on Fox Bob’s Burgers, Late night host Pete Holmes (TBS), WWE stars Kane and Hornswoggle, WWE studio president Michael Luisi, Directors Jen and Sylvia Soska, Animal Planets’ Finding Bigfoot cast, and the SECOND (with a microphone this time!) interview with Stan “the man” Lee!! Yes it was a great time to say the least.

InvestComics put together a short video montage of various awesome photos taken by Rafael Rosario (with some bad photos taken by yours truly!). Many of the photos in the video do not give the viewer a “full display” of the picture. So there will be a post on InvestComics with a gallery of full displayed images coming soon. Until then, check out the video below. Some of the cosplay this year was simply outstanding. If you see someone you may know in the video, please share it with them.

[bliptv AYOXlRIA.x?p]

The crowds were plentiful as always at the show. Expansion will probably happen again either next year or shortly thereafter. The show itself is definitely becoming the San Diego Comic Con on the east coast. It’s more about the glitz and glamour of the media world rather than the comics themselves mostly. Yes the Image Comics/Marvel Comics booths were absolutely a mad house as they always are, but no signs of an actual “mad house” around the comic book booths tucked away in 3 aisles if that many. The comic booths did have some traffic, but it was nowhere as near as it was everywhere else. Yes the media outlets have taken over, and that’s okay too because it gives the comic book world extra juice. Especially small media…..

Small publishing media were doing their thing too! Creature Entertainment was constantly busy, as were their neighbor Cosmic Times. Be sure to look for those publishers at your local show, they are always making their rounds in the circuit. Our pals at Unstoppable Comics were doing very well as we checked in from time to time, as was our bud, our favorite colorist Jeff Balke! Jeff Kaufman of Big City Comics Studio was drawing all sorts of attention with his stellar graphic novel Angel Falling and his Whore book. And our friend; media mogul, owner of Hound Comics Brimstone was uber busy signing and making appearances everywhere. All and all, it was a busy show for everyone.

One of the more puzzling questions at the New York Comic Con this year; what happened to DC??! Yes DC Comics were nowhere to be found. Yes they had their little signing area WAY in the back area in artist alley, but no booth?? Very odd. Many fans were perplexed by this move. DC however, did have the “75 Years of Superman” display in the court by the coat and luggage check! Displayed in glass cases were all of the Superman costumes worn throughout the years from various Superman movies. Once you were over the amazement and coolness of it, it quickly became, “that’s it?” DC dropped the ball here. They could have had various Superman creators along with the displays present. It would have been a nice token/gesture to recognize the artist and writers of the past that have worked on making the Superman comic throughout the years. Have a free giveaway comic, have them sign it or talk to fans, take pictures. It’s quite absurd that Neal Adams (and many others) were sitting in the next room and he (they) weren’t sitting there for a little while to honor this momentous occasion. Rant TWDJokers_Daugtherover!

InvestComics got a hold of some very rare Walking Dead variants from the Image Comics booth. The Walking Dead #1 New York Comic Con variant has a print run of only 2000!! If you’re interested in buying one, you can head over to the InvestComics Ebay page right HERE and bid away! Remember only 2000 of these exist! Rare indeed.

Before heading off to New York Comic Con, InvestComics released our first ever InvestComics Publications comic The Dawning #1 by David Whalen. There have been many sales of the book and we will be shipping them out this week. So if you ordered please be patient. Thanks! Oh and just in case you missed the ordering details, click right HERE to order now!

Also before heading off to New York, InvestComics announced a new contest to win a  SIGNED Chris Claremont Excalibur #1! That’s right, legend Chris Claremont! If that doesn’t entice you, how about this? How about your chance to grab one of the hottest books out right now signed by the artist? How about Batman The Dark Knight #23.4 Joker’s Daughter #1 SIGNED by artist Georges Jeanty?!! Yes this comic can be WON by YOU! Share the InvestComics website/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and all other social media anywhere and you will be entered to win! Be sure to (hashtag) #investcomics when you share. Each contest is separate though, The Excalibur and the Batman comic, so be sure to specify which comic you are after! Also alert InvestComics via Facebook or Twitter or here that you shared!

Onward we go!!

InvestComics Hot Picks for Comic Releases 10-23-13

So you missed that number one issue that InvestComics recommended you pick up. What were you thinking?! So now the question you may ask is what’s worse than a number one issue selling out and missing it? Well a number two issue selling out and missing it! Often times after a number one sells out, the interest tends to make the second issue a sellout as well. The tricky part here is, will the second issue hold up the series or will fans toss it because the story simply is not enough for them to stick around. If the story holds up, then you are definitely onto something as far as the aftermarket is concerned. Case in point this week with Rat Queens (2013 Image) #2, Sex Criminals (2013) #2, and Other Dead (2013 IDW) #2. Image Comics are simply killing it. They have put out more aftermarket greatness in the past couple of years than many can count. They continue to do so this week with these releases. Do not get caught short here, especially with any of the hot books that contain any variants. Get the variants CGC graded (9.8 or better a must), signature series (9.8 or better a must), and sell them for double/triple the value easily.

[scrollGallery id=313]

While we are on topic of number two issues, what gives with DC Universe vs Masters of the Universe (2013) #2? A “Top Secret” black cover obviously reveals nothing and because of this it’s essentially sold out already? Justice League makes an appearance, but wow, it’s a He-Man comic and it’s sold out. Let that sink in folks. But with a legend writer Keith Giffen on the book, it makes sense too.

DC’s lone number one comic to make it to the Hot Picks this week is Beware The Batman (2013) #1. An all ages Batman comic that has the SOLD OUT sign up on the variant. No sold out sign for Marvel’s Marvel Now What (2013) #1, but a fun comic read nonetheless! Marvel will “change things FOREVER” in Iron Man (2012 5th Series) #17. The last part of the Secret Origin of Tony Stark storyline. And going back to DC, we have Justice League Dark (2011) #24 with the New Justice League Dark. Is that really the cover? The white sound? Hmmm, okay.

Samurai Jack makes his triumphant return in Samurai Jack (2013 IDW) #1. Jack’s first comic appearance came back in DC’s Samurai Jack Special #1 (2002). If the world is ready for Jack in a big way, the number one special will be……special.

Pretty Deadly (2013 Image) #1 and Velvet (2013 Image) #1, both from Image Comics are… guessed it, SOLD OUT! Velvet #1 includes writer Ed Brubaker and artist Steve Epting! Each week the same format rings true here; buy Image Comics. Be sure to stay on top of these Image Comics, it won’t be long before they open that huge movie studio and start cranking out these comics into cinema beauty. Hey, you never know!

Another zombie book will make its way into the comic book world this week. On the verge of a sellout, be sure to check out Zombie War (2013 IDW) #1. And Conan fans get a new book to read this week from awesome writer Fred Van Lente, Conan People of the Black Circle (2013 Dark Horse) #1.

See you next week! Don’t forget to hit that contest up! And sign up to the InvestComics newsletter too!

Chris Claremont signing Excalibur #1Excalibur #1Pumpkin spice coffee is back at Dunkin/Starbucks, the leaves are getting crunchy up north, school has started back up, no Jerry Lewis??, the NFL season has begun, and who would have had the Florida team down here 3-1 at this point? Excalibur #1 signed by Legendary writer Chris Claremont!! Rules are the same here. Share the InvestComics website on ANY social media outlet, be sure to let us know, and you’re in the running! It’s that easy! Chris Claremont! Awesome!!

BULLETIN*****An important announcement will be forthcoming before we leave to New York, so stay close folks. The “Dawning” of a new era is coming……

Let’s head on over to the 3D-less Hot Picks this week shall we?

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Releases 10-9-13

[scrollGallery id=311]

There are a few comics to really keep your eyes peeled to this week. Captain America (2012 7th Series) #12 will bring the character known as Dr. Mindbubble. Yes that’s correct, Dr. Mindbubble. Okay so what’s in a name right? Hey it’s a first official appearance here, so we must take a looksee. Always nice to have intro’s within the pages of a Cap book. Afterlife With Archie (2013) #1 has created quite the buzz around the comic book scene. With the award winning talents of writer Roberto Aguirre Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla, coupled with a zombie apocalypse, this new ongoing series (not for the Archie “kid readers”) is going to sell out quick. There will be variants of this comic available, be sure to grab them. The variants by the way are absolutely gorgeous.

Superman and Wonder Woman begin their romance novel/superhero comic with the Superman Wonder Woman (2013) #1 release. DC has done the unthinkable here folks!! Where’s Lois? Well welcome to the “real life”. Man gets famous; he wants the hottest chick on the block. Men are dogs aren’t they? Just kidding of course. But DC may have actually found a little niche with their experiment here. Why not put the most powerful superhero with the most powerful female hero and let the romance ensue. It may, may, may peek the interest of a “non” female reader to come along and pick this comic up. Fangirls and fanboys will pick this up regardless if it’s a decent story, but what about the elusive female readership that so many comic companies are trying to cater to? Well DC, you may have something here. Awesome stuff. The relationship between Supes and WW is essentially 66 years in the making. Better late than never right? They first met up in All-Star Comic #36 (1947). Good luck trying to snag that comic right now at a decent penny with all of the WW talk of possibly appearing in the new Superman/Batman movie. Oh and by the way, pick up the scarce variant black and white cover if you want to make a nice return on your dollar.

Major revelations are revealed in Batman Zero Year. Origins and a big surprise hits us in Batman (2011 2nd Series) #24. Pick that up, see if it’s a “holy sh*t!” moment or a “meh” moment. Our guess it’s going to be a “holy Batman!” Moment.

With every successful event comes the additional spin off books, case in point this week with Forever Evil Arkham War (2013) #1. Is it really necessary to have a separate Forever Evil campaign run through Arkham? Well maybe, but it kind of feels like a 3D moment doesn’t it? Cool, but why? Money that’s why! Duh! DC Comics striking while the iron is hot here with more Forever Evil comics. Probably a great, fun read, but unless there is a major wow moment going on in here or an intro, not much going on for this comic in the aftermarket.

Speaking of cashing in, this is great. Image Comics knows that the Walking Dead is their major moneymaker right? In Walking Dead (2003 Image) #115 Rick has declared “All Out War”, a 12 part storyline that starts this week. It’s one of the most dramatic event storylines to fill these pages in some time, if ever. That’s all well and good, right? So what shall they do to introduce a new major storyline like no other? How about 12 variant covers? That’s right, 12 covers… Cha-ching!

Image Comics comes at us with more great number one comics this week; Three (2013 Image) #1 and Rocket Girl (2013 Image) #1.

Coffin Hill (2013 DC/Vertigo) #1 will be another fantastic Vertigo comic probably. Death Sentence (2013 Titan Comics) #1 from Titan looks like a very interesting comic. Looks like a movie to come out of that someday possibly. Cryptozoic Man (2013 Dynamite) #1, already covered on Comic Book Men season II, look for more coverage on this comic in Comic Book Men season III. Horror comics are making a mild comeback and this week the much talked about (positive) Department of Monsterology (2013 Renegade Arts) #1 will be hitting the shelves. A few cool/fun comics to check out this week; Shaolin Cowboy (2013 Dark Horse) #1, Multiple Warheads Down Fall (2013) #0, and Marvel Universe Hulk Agents of Smash (2013) #1.

That’s it for this week. Don’t to enter the contest, LIKE/Follow InvestComics. New York Comic Con bound, see you in 2 weeks!

It’s been a fantastic start of the week for InvestComics. That’s if Saturday and not Sunday is counted as the first day of the week on your calendar. For me, I’m counting Saturday as the first day because of the great things that happened and are on the horizon!

InvestComics Publications received the last shipment (First printing) of our first ever publications comic ‘The Dawning #1’. Look for an InvestComics Newsletter coming in your inbox to be the first to snag a copy! InvestComics will be giving out FREE SIGNED copies to those who make and send a short video (5 to 10 seconds) professing your love to InvestComics. Palm ConSaturday InvestComics visited an old friend with a dream and a passion coming to life for him. Martin Pierro of Cosmic Times Publications has done something that has been sorely missed in the West Palm Beach Florida area for quite some time. He started a comic convention appropriately named ‘Palm Con’ 3 years ago. The first 2 years were held in the American Polish Club in Lake Worth Florida. The show quickly outgrew the space needed in the first year, forcing to rent more space the second year, and now this year the show resided in the West Palm Beach Convention Center! Yes Martin is on to something here. In speaking with Martin for the brief few minutes we had at the show (he was a runnin’), you can see and feel the tenseness of the hard work he put into this show. He’s worked hard for this and it shows. In speaking with Andra Walt (mama), one can hear the proudness ooze off of every word, and justly so. Martin Pierro’s Palm Con has arrived.

InvestComics was invited to the event and came out with a few pictures and some video. Those will come out in the days to come. Overall the show had a nice crowd and people were really enjoying themselves. The guest list included Ethan Van Sciver, Deep Roy, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Allen Bellman, Jose Delbo, Carlos Castellanos, Jeff Dekal, Jessis Melero, Vinnie Tartamella, Creature Entertainment, and a host of others.

As already said, Martin Pierro is obviously on to something here. The West Palm Beach area was in dire need of some sort of comic book entertainment forum and Martin will provide this to the genre for years to come. I personally am very proud of him and look forward to the years ahead. Thanks for the invite Palm Con, I had a blast!

There will be some more news on the horizon from InvestComics, so sit tight. It’s very exciting, but cannot speak about anything until confirmation comes in. Such a tease right?

Let’s head into the DC 3D books for this week. Seems like forever now with these books no? How’s that saying go? Too much of a good thing is bad for you?  Well what seemed to be a fun idea is starting to run its course. The 3D covers are nice and all, but the 90’s are calling and they want real comic book covers back.

As InvestComics has done for the collectors each week regarding the 3D covers, we will present the comic and the first appearance of the villain takeover of that particular book. As the weeks pass, it looks as though the field is getting very thinned out. But this shouldn’t deter the collector, it only takes that ONE book to hit and you have chaos within the aftermarket. Be smart about which books to pick up as far as the speculation market goes, the story and the actual character (and print run sometimes) is what causes “that” particular comic to uptick. Not because of a pretty cover.

InvestComics – DC 3D Hot Pick Covers 9-25-13

[scrollGallery id=307]

Wonder Woman (2011 4th Series) #23.2 – Wonder Woman never really had the rouge gallery that stood out from most, and this week it’s a case in point with ‘First Born’ taking over the WW book. First Born debuted in Wonder Woman #12 (New 52).

Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – Metallo, another forgettable character takes on Superman in this takeover. Metallo makes his first appearance in Action Comics #252 (1959). Cover by Curt Swan.

Superman (2011 3rd Series) #23.4 – Staying with the Superman talk we have another one of those huh? Characters. The much bigger purple blob thing names ‘Parasite’ visits Supes. Back in 1966’s Action Comics #340, Parasite wasn’t on the roids yet and wore green shorts. The big question is will Parasite wear his green shorts in the new Superman Parasite book?? The tension mounts!

Aquaman (2011 5th Series) #23.2 – Moving right along here, Ocean Master, yes Ocean Master will give Aquaman his problems in his own book this week. Ocean Master. Okay, just like saying that for some reason. OM first appeared in Aquaman #29 (1966). All joking aside, maybe OM will be Aquaman’s nemesis in a film or television show one day. Image that…?

Justice League (2011) #23.4 – The ultra-cool Secret-Society will have the rights to the new JL book this week. Look for Secret Society of Super-Villains #1 from 1976 for their first appearance.

Batman (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – One of four Batman titles coming out this week. Overkill? Anyway, one of Batman’s biggest adversaries to ever come along after Bats was introduced all of those many moons ago was Bane. Just like Spidey had Venom, Bats has Bane. Not saying that the rest of their rouge galleries are a weak one, but to have a villain come out of the modern era and make such an impact like they have is a big deal. Bane has already been covered in two Batman films. Now granted the first one doesn’t really count, but it did happen and that accounts for something. It wasn’t until the second go around that Bane became the total bad as* that the character should have portrayed. The villain was spot on in The Dark Knight Rises, a fantastic film and a fantastic villain. Do yourself a favor, if you do not already own the first appearance of Bane in Bane: Vengeance of Bane Special #1 (1993), you need to. Although a big print run keeps the cost down a bit, it’s still a wonderful book to have.

Justice League Of America Vol 3 #7.4 – Just like the aforementioned, Black Adam is a total bad as*. This dude needs to appear in a film, stat! Check out Adam’s debut in Marvel’s Family #1 from 1945 (Fawcett Comics).

Batman and Robin (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – DC’s answer to Marvel’s Lizard came some 20 years later in 1983’s Detective Comics #523. Look for Killer Croc’s debut here.

Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #23.4 – Too bad the Green Lantern didn’t get as much love as it did. Fans were not at all pleased with the film as box office numbers would show. Sinestro however will remain a main staple in the GL gallery. Look carefully through Green Lantern #7 (1961) and there you will see Sinestro’s first appearance.

Batman Superman (2013 DC) #3.1 – Speaking of movies fans are not receptive to, the new Superman/Batman movie seems to be getting dumped on because of the actor choice Ben Affleck playing Batman. Don’t forget that InvestComics supports Ben as Batman on the Facebook page: ‘Affleck as Batman – I’m On Team Ben’. Click HERE to join the crusade against the naysayers! Any who, within this takeover issue we have the only “thing” to ever “unofficially” kill Superman. Doomsday first appeared in Superman: Man of Steel #17 (1992). Just like Bane and Venom for their respective rouge galleries, Doomsday has become “that villain” within the Superman gallery. A late, modern introduction that has caught on and never let go. Doomsday in the Superman/Batman movie? Hey you never know!

Batman The Dark Knight (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – One of the hottest “surprise” issues to come out recently is the Catwoman #23 (New 52) book. The aftermarket went bonkers when word got out that this comic contained the first appearance of the Joker’s daughter. This week the Joker’s daughter will make here “second appearance”. Don’t miss this comic, it’s definitely a sellout book.

Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – The last of the Bat books has Man-Bat gracing the 3D cover. Sometimes a simple switching of a word can create a new character! Although not a recognizable, oh my God I need to buy the issue with Man-Bat in it, it’s the first appearance that’s more appealing than anything. Check out the debut of Man-Bat in Detective Comics #400 (1970). A story drawn by legend Neal Adams and a classic cover by Neal to boot! Good stuff here.

InvestComics Hot Picks 9-25-13

[scrollGallery id=308]

Marvel Comics debuts the new Sun-Girl in Superior Spider-Man Team Up (2013) #3. Sun-Girl is a great looking 70 year old character. Check out the first appearance from back in 1948’s Sun-Girl #1 from Timely Publications! That’s pre-Marvel folks.

Also from Marvel,  check out Infinity Heist (2013) #1 and Punisher Trial of Punisher (2013) #1. With any kind of buzz with these two comics, they will be sold out very quick.

Speaking of sold out comics, if these comics bring it, expect the aftermarket to be a buzzing. Farlaine The Goblin (2013) #1 stands right in front of this line (Interview right now on InvestComics with creator Studio Farlaine!! Click HERE!). Sold out at Diamond Distributors, get your hands on this comic if you can. Zombie Annihilation One Shot from SILVER PHOENIX ENTERTAINMENT is also sold out at the distributor level. Other Dead (2013 IDW) #1, Powerpuff Girls (2013 IDW) #1 are sold out as well.

On the cusp of second prints are Sex Criminals (2013) #1, Super (2013) #1, Rat Queens (2013 Image) #1, and Planet of the Apes Giant (2013 Boom) #1. As always mentioned here, Image Comics have been on a serious roll lately. Their products have been outstanding. Watch out for the sell outs of their comics, because interest will eventually reach the “another” medium as Hollywood will start picking off some of their stories.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for new comic releases on 9-11-13

(Disclaimer: all comic recommendations are from a speculative vantage point. Not all comics are to guarantee a return on your investment. This article is used as a guide for investments and more so for entertainment purposes. Any opinions or expression of investments should be used as a judgement upon the investor, not InvestComics. Please use your own discretion when investing and have fun.)

Last week InvestComics Hot Picks #285 covered the arrival of DC’s 3D comic cover onslaught. The 3D covers turned out to be a huge success for DC judging from the demand in the aftermarket as well as complete sell outs in every comic shop across the nation. One particular comic is commanding in the range of $199 to $300 in the aftermarket. The “winner” in last week’s 3D sweepstakes has to go to Forever Evil #1 – Ivan Reis’ retail variant. The ratio of this comic is driving the price up tremendously. How about 1 variant per comic shop? That’s a nice ratio isn’t it? Get this bad boy in a CGC graded case, a 9.8 or higher and double your cash instantly. Hurry though; the 3D madness will not last forever. Not saying that prices will plummet here, but these prices WILL level out and some speculators may get caught holding their purse. Do not overpay to get any of these books. Be a wise speculator, this isn’t the 1990’s anymore. Although it may feel that way at the moment, this will all die down and level off. That said you must look for the rare ratio 3D books in order to make some serious bank. If you are collecting all of the 3D covers, be sure to get two copies of each, although many retail outfits are limiting one per customer (even Midtown Comics in New York are limiting 1 per). So get your brother, friend, mom, dad, sister, whomever to buy a copy so that you have 2 in your stash. Why two copies you may ask? The reason is simple and any collector already knows; a nice reader/collector copy and one to put together in a mass sale of all 52 variants. What some speculators may not be aware of is some of the aftermarket prices for (pre-ordering) all 52 covers. They are fetching upwards to $390. Not too shabby. To reiterate, the 3D craze WILL NOT last forever, so if you are going to do a mass kill on selling all 52 3D books, you must do so in a small window. The market will in fact come down on these sooner than later. You will have quite a few that will break the outside mold and become a $300 book all onto itself like the Forever Evil # variant. THOSE are the ‘prizes’ here fans. THOSE are the ones to get your hands on. Not an easy task, but getting those will make your bank account very happy. Especially if you get them professionally graded by CGC and score a high grade.

NOTE: Be sure to check out Zap-Kapow’s awesome price guide via their app! Check out the Zap-Kapow app by clicking on their logo at the start of this article!

As this Wednesday approaches, DC Comics continues their trend with the 3D covers. InvestComics will follow the same trend too. As we did last week we will be breaking down each comic with the first appearance of the particular villain taking over the book. It’s so much fun to see where some of these villains came from and how much they have evolved and devolved over the course of time. Not every redo is a home run guys/gals. Sometimes things should stay the way they are. Don’t fix what ain’t broke.

DC Comics 3D Comics 9/11/13

[scrollGallery id=296]

Teen Titans (2011 4th Series) #23.1 – Trigon looks really angry on this 3D cover doesn’t he? Hate to be on that Titans team looking at him. Trigon first appeared in The New Teen Titans #4 (1981), creators George Perez and Marv Wolfman at the helm here. This should already be in your collection.

Justice League (2011) #23.2 – Here’s another first appearance that any comic collector should already have in their stash. Another 80’s book; Omega Men #3 (1983) features the first look at Lobo.

Justice League of America (2013 3rd Series) #7.2 – An interesting choice going with a Killer Frost takeover. The frosty one first appeared in Firestorm #3 (1978).

Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #23.2 – The wannabe (appearance wise – Thanos/Darkseid) Mongul takes over this comic. And another 1980’s comic; check out his debut in DC Comics Presents #27 (1980).

Flash (2011) #23.2 – Reverse-Flash will give Flash a very hard time in his comic book this month. The first Professor Zoom is in 1963’s Flash #139. Love that yellow suit!!

Earth 2 (2012 DC) #15.2 – Boy you talk about a fantastic makeover, this would be it. Solomon Grundy looks like a menace on the 3D cover here. Good job DC! Grundy first appeared all the way back in All-American Comics #61 (1944).

Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.2 – The enigmatic Harley Quinn brings her craziness to this comic. Check out the iconic comic (cover wise) Batman: Harley Quinn one shot from 1999 to get her debut.

Batman (2011 2nd Series) #23.2 – And speaking of iconic. The awesomeness of the Riddler appears this week as his hostile takeover will be fantastic probably. Look at that cover! Beautiful! His debut came in Batman #140 (1961). This is definitely a comic to have in your collection. If you do not own this comic, you need to buy it. The Riddler character will always be an uptick character. No losing here. None.

Batman The Dark Knight (2011 2nd Series) #23.2 – If one had to choose the best rouge gallery for one particular DC character; it would have to be Batman, right? Well maybe that’s up for debate on for another day, but Mr. Freeze dons the 3D cover this week and his debut is in Batman #121 (1959). Cover art by Curt Swan? Yes I will have one thank you!

Batman and Robin (2011 2nd Series) #23.2 – The very recent introduction and popular villains ‘Court of Owls’ will take over the Bats and Rob book. COO (abbreviation) were spoken about in the latest Batman #1 New 52 series, but it wasn’t until Batman #5 (New 52) they made their debut.

Aquaman (2011 5th Series) #23.1 – Speaking of rogue galleries, you want to talk about some of the weakest in all of the DC U? Yes Aquaman may be cool now, but boy do his villains need some serious makeovers! Black Manta is no exception here. Debuting in Aquaman #35 (1967).

Superman #23.2 – In actuality, Supes isn’t that far behind in weak villains either. Why do you think we always see Lex and Zod everywhere? Well Brainiac, like so many others have been through the ringer with the changing of his looks as well. If things work, no change is needed, if things do not, changes are always present. Case in point with a lot of these new looks for everyone over the years. But anyways, getting off track here, check out the Brains first appearance in Action Comics #242 (1958).

Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.2 – Here we have one of the bad asses in the Superman gallery. Zod! General Zod made his debut in Adventure Comics #283 (1961). Another one of those “can’t lose” books. Although many changes over the years, Zod remains a force in the collectors market.

That’s it for the 3D madness, now onto the number one issue madness this week! But first let’s cover the double digit number one; Captain America (2012 7th Series) #11. In this issue the question is asked, who is Iron Nail? Pick this up and find out!

InvestComics Hot Picks 9/11/13

[scrollGallery id=297]

In the new Mighty Avengers (2013) #1, the team will face off against Proxima Midnight. PM’s arrival was in the recent pages of New Avengers #8. Marvel will look to milk the “Infinity” drama for all it’s worth in Infinity Hunt (2013) #1. This issue will bring a new ‘Contest of Champions’ to the table. If you don’t know exactly what Contest of Champions is, well shame on you! Check out the original classic from 1982; Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions three issue limited series. Here is a quick creators list on this series; Gruenwald, Mantlo, Romita Jr., and Layton. Is there any reason anyone would not know about this comic??

And now we visit the slew of number one issues headed your way this Wednesday. How does anyone afford this hobby anymore?

Rapid fire: A few number one issues REALLY need to be on your radar this week. The aftermarket pricing will reflect the SOLD OUT sign on these if the story is well received. Mythopolis (2013 Ardden) #1 is SOLD OUT, Kings Watch (2013 Dynamite) #1 is SOLD OUT, Hit List (2013) Zenescope #1 might be a sleeper, but Zenescope comics never fare that well in the aftermarket, Locke and Key (2013 7th Series) Alpha #1 will be on the SOLD OUT list shortly, Genie The Genius (2013 Ape) #1 will follow that road, Low Society (2013) #0 may also be a sleeper; it’s on the verge of a sellout, the wildly popular television series will get its own book; Sons of Anarchy (2013 Boom) #1. Live television series’ do not always equate to demand on the comic book front. Actually it’s an extremely rare feat that success is found in the comic book market from a TV show. Eternal Warrior (2013 Valiant) #1 will join the Valiant list of successful sellouts, while Mars Attacks Judge Dredd (2013 IDW) #1 will cater to the Mars Attacks groupie’s.

The weekly InvestComics Hot Picks have expanded. The new article is called InvestComics Hot Pick: Single Issue. The reason for this article is to point out random issues that need your attention or simply have no bearing on anything actually! Maybe there is uniqueness to a comic that you may have missed over the years? Maybe a comic that has a first appearance you may not be aware of? It could be any reason that a comic may appear within this article. The most recent Hot Pick: Single is an example of a comic that might be flying under the radar just a tad. Check out InvestComics Hot Pick: Single Issue – Captain America #186 right HERE.

InvestComics HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=272]

Gotham_Central_1There are two sure fire hits this week and should not be missed. Lazarus (2013 Image) #1 comes highly recommended from Shaun Cobble (Breaking the 4th Wall) and Brianna Floss (InvestComics reviews – Bri’s reviews will be on InvestComics tomorrow. Be on the lookout for that!)). Shaun made sure to message me after reading this comic to inform me that Lazarus #1 needs to be an InvestComics’ Hot Pick this week. I ensured him that it was to appear anyways, but between Shaun’s raving and what Brianna’s words “ Rucka’s writing is top-notch, while Lark and Arca’s gorgeous art perfectly captures the fractured nature of the world and its inhabitants”, as well as a 10 out of a 10 rating, yes this solidifies that Lazarus #1 will be well on its way to an instant sellout and command some cash in the aftermarket. The Lazarus creative team of Greg Rucka and Michael Lark also brought readers Gotham Central from 2003. They have had success together already, and it looks like they hit their mark once again. Uncanny (2013 Dynamite) #1 will be the other book to look out for this week. Brianna gives this comic a 9 out of a 10. “…a fun ride” says Brianna, so strap in readers! The roller coaster is about to begin on sellout levels with two independent comics this week.

DC goes back to the well on Wednesday. The very successful, highly touted run of Superman/Batman from 2003 will begin its new run this week, this time staring the new 52 Supes and Bats. It’s their first meeting in the new 52. Writer Jeph Loeb/Ed McGuinness really took the 2003 series to a whole new level, as will writer Greg Pak and Jae Lee for the latest installment. Look for a more “emo” type run here. The cover itself seems very dark, as the inside will probably invoke the same. This isn’t a bad thing, just a change of pace from the previous series for sure probably. Demand will exceed supply, so be prepared for a second print announcement coming soon after Wednesday.

Larfleeze (2013 DC) #1 will star in his own comic this week. If you don’t know yet (you should), Lar’s first appearance was in Green Lantern #25 (2008). The great standalone Superman stories continue in Adventures of Superman (2013) 2nd Series #2 from some of the industry’s top talents. This week Oeming, Joelle Jones, and legend Sal Buscema show off their Superman tales.

Captain America (2012 7th Series) #8 reveals a character set for return that no one would ever imagine coming back. Please surprise us Marvel! Scarlet Spider (2012 2nd Series) #18 asks the question; who is Red Death? Let’s all read it and find out! And finally from the House of Ideas, Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) #32 we meet the new Hellions.

Kiss and WolverineUncanny X-Men #173Godzilla Rulers of the Earth (2013 IDW) #1 will be more Godzilla fun. IDW has the giant monster in a good place. They actually have created a fan base for this dude! Good job IDW! A couple of fun cool books to also check out this week are Atomic Robo and the Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur (2013) #1 from Red 5 Comics and Malevolent Mr Burns (2013 Bongo) #1.

A great cover this week from IDW’s Kiss Solo (2013 IDW) #4 Inadvertently pays homage to a famous Wolverine run pose pictured to the right. It also resembles Uncanny X-Men #173 a bit too. Awesome Peter Chris cover though! IDW kicking some ass.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to sign up for the InvestComics Newsletter!

InvestComics HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=257]

This week in the InvestComics Hot Picks we have a combination of 9 number one issues/zero issues. But before we get to that, a comic book run like no other is coming to close to much of the dismay of many fanboys. Geoff Johns will end his run on Green Lantern this week with a double sized issue. Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #20 will be the issue that every fan will be talking about this coming Wednesday. The only thing we ponder is, why the hefty $7.99 price tag? Ouch. Granted a double sized, but throw a bone here will ya? Anyway, DC played it smart here because they will in fact get their $7.99 being that it’s the climatic final issue of Geoff’s run so kudos to them! (We’re in business here kids, don’t kid yourselves). So with the ending so near, InvestComics went searching for a beginning…..Geoff Johns first Green Lantern work. Well, you’d have to go all the way back to a backup story in 1999’s Green Lantern Secret Files #2. The backup story is called “Lost Pages: Haunting.” He wrote the backup that featured only one Lantern; Hal Jordan. So there you have it, the first and the last. The man single handedly responsible for the “Rebirth” of a character that was in the doldrums since the creative team of Neal Adams/Dennis O’Neil. He was also responsible  for the launching of a Green Lantern movie. So, want to cash in on this? Buy the final issue, couple that with the GL Secret Files #2 and bam! You’re welcome.

With the hit television series Arrow bringing its season finale to the table, It’s only fitting that Arrow (2012 DC) #7 this week brings one of his main adversary’s front and center. The origin of Deathstroke will be revealed. A cult favorite, Deathstroke is a breakout character that seems poised for the big screen someday. When this happens, probably not an IF here, but when it does, be sure to have your paws on The New Teen Titans #2 (1980). Already a collector’s book, this will continue to rise as the years pass us by. It will explode once he makes his appearance on the big screen. The New Teen Titans #2 comic appeared more than 8 years ago in the InvestComics magazine as a solid buy. This still hold true for today.

Ultimate Wolverine (2013) #4 will introduce a new villain, as Wolverine & Cap fight a villain “unlike anything we’ve seen.” In A Plus X (2012 Marvel Now) #8. Journey into Mystery (2011 3rd Series) #652 will bring back Beta Ray Bill!

Two sleeper issues coming at us this Wednesday. Deep Sea (2013 Dark Horse) #0 from the creative team of Jimmy Palimiotti and Justin Gray and Green Team (2013 DC) #1. Green Team looks like a very interesting read, definitely need to check that out.

 InvestComics Newsletter – May 2013

The-Dawning-COVER-1-jpegWelcome to the May InvestComics Newsletter. Spring is upon us as the summer months quickly approach. Summertime means fun, sun, beach, concerts, barbeques, and the first issue of the new InvestComics Publications. Yes that’s right fans, not only will your summer be filled with all the aforementioned, but you’re first crack at owning the historic first issue release from InvestComics Publications. “The Dawning #1” by David Whalen will hit next month and in this newsletter is the number one issue cover! Bask in its glory, we sure are!

The InvestComics website has a new writer on board; Terry Hoknes. Terry is the author of “Investing In Comic Books.” He will be filling up the new article section titled “Comic Market & Stats.” Terry is going to bring articles with the most comprehensive comic book stat list you will find on the internet. We guarantee it. Don’t just take our word for it, take a look at these articles already posted on InvestComics (Click on the title to jump to the article) “The Walking Dead – Complete Print Run History”, “Best Selling Comic Books of this Decade”, and “Best Selling Non-Super Hero Comics of April 2013.” Yes these are a comic book collectors dream to have such an extensive list broken down like this. We all look forward to these fantastic articles and stats.

A new tab went up on the top of the InvestComics web page recently; it’s called “Conventions.” InvestComics has visited many shows over the years and it only made sense to have a separate section all to its own. For many years the convention articles, photos, and videos were scattered throughout the site. Now it’s all contained in one area. The section is far from done, more to be added, but it IC-Conventions2has filled up nicely so far, so go check it out.

InvestComics Media is building an exclusive video catalog on BlipTV. Be sure to see many videos you will not find on Youtube or anywhere else. Click right HERE to check things out. Included within those exclusive videos will be the new contest that involves Walking Dead. An autograph from Michael Koske; a Featured walker on the show. Stay tuned for that!

The latest Comic Broker’s Report from Topher Seal went up on InvestComics. Check out the Comic Broker’s Report May 2013 right HERE.

Be sure to check out the weekly video review show FFFIC with Sebastian Piccione & Shaun Sorenson as well as the best podcast on the internet; Breaking the 4th Wall with Shaun Cobble, Kirstie Cobble, Jason Craycroft, and Shuan Sorenson. Recently, InvestComics got a hold of Premiere Grader Paul Litch of CGC to be interviewed on BT4W. Fantastic interview done by Shaun Cobble, check that out right HERE.

InvestComics has a vast hub of social media outlets, but the one place to find out about news/articles/contest/videos and so much more is the InvestComics Facebook page. Go right HERE to join the fans and talk things up. Speaking of talking things up, be sure to drop comments on the InvestComics website comment section below every article too.

Bob Heske of Heske Horror, graphic novels, screenwriter, and longtime contributor to the IndieCreator column here at InvestComics has a movie that will be coming out called; Blessid. Bob says the movie is coming along and we will see it soon. To get updates on the film, fans should LIKE the Facebook page Blessid the Movie; click right HERE to that. There will be a new IndieCreator column coming up shortly, so be on the lookout for that too.

InvestComics has a couple of conventions scheduled. So far Miami SuperCon and New York Comic Con. And as always, we will bring you all some goodies (contest) back as well as some interviews, and photos.

See you next month.
