Sometimes it really does feel like the 90’s all over again. Not only the comic industry, but it sure looks like Marvel has taken a page from the 90’s history books. Venom is all the craze once again. Once upon a time it was Wolverine, then it was Ghost Rider, Darkhawk (for a hot minute), Punisher and of course Venom. Well, Venom is back and he’s everywhere…..again. Venom Inc. #1 has the symbiote “doubling down” on its previous host, Marvel heroes and others.  Creators involved here are Dan Slott, Mike Costa and Ryan Stegman.
The new Iron Spider (Aaron Davis) and the new Sinister Six debuted in Spider-Man #234. This week Iron Spider takes it to Miles Morales in Spider-Man #235. Looks like Miles is in for quite a fight.
Doctor Stephen Strange rocks the boat a bit (Marvel U) within the last pages of Doctor Strange #382. Our guess? It would seem as though the new Loki Sorcerer Supreme is kicking some major as* and the Doctor has to do something drastic to stop it.
Captain America faces off against the all-new Swordsman in Captain America #696. The original Swordsman first appeared in Avengers #19 (1965). It says so right on the cover too. A very silly looking dude back then, right?
Interesting story starting up from writer Sina Grace in Iceman #8; Iceman vs. Iceman part 1.

The first Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles team-up brought on a lot of interest, buyers, readers. So what worked before has to work once more. That’s usually the thinking of a good sale. This week the return of this odd team-up; Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #1. This time Bane winds up in New York and, well….Batman and the Turtles will take their fight to New York to get Bane out of there. Creators James Tynion IV and Freddie E. Williams II.
DC Universe Holiday Special 2017 #1 is a who’s who in the comic industry. So many great creators lending their hand in making this holiday special. Too many to list here. One mention of importance is the “return” of legendary writer Denny O’Neil. Denny will write an original Batman story in this special. Incidentally, Denny O’Neil’s last original work dates back to 2010’s Detective Comics #866. Accompanied by a ridiculously cool Walt Simonson cover. Welcome back Denny!
A new story arc beings in Deathstroke #26; The Fall Of Slade part one. Creators Christopher Priest, Carlo Pagulayan and Jason Paz.
Writer Tom King takes readers on a two-part journey regarding the on again, off again relationship of Bruce and Clark. Batman #36; Superfriends part 1, focuses on how these two heroes “inspire” one another. DC claims this story will have readers talking…..as in a buzz. The story is derived from Tom King, so you know it will be good anyway. Art by Clay Mann.
The Deadman #2 comic will play Jedi mind tricks with readers and collectors on Wednesday. All across local comic shop land, many fans will be holding the cover up to a light (a “certain light”) that will reveal a hidden message. No really, not making this up. Go into your shop on the busy Wednesday evening and watch everyone holding up the Deadman #2 comic to the light. They’ll do either one of two things, smile and say, “oh that’s cool” or they’ll frown and say, “oh wow, that’s lame.” Either way, DC will get you to do what they want, you’ll do it and that’ll create the curiosity around the book. Bring attention to it, having a few consumers putting it in their stack because it was a neat trick they’ll want to show mom or their girlfriend when they get home. Here’s a bulletin, they’re not going to care, but you do so that’s what matters most. See, the Jedi mind trick from DC this week will work…..you’ll see.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
Suicide Squad #1 Michael Turner & Peter Steigerwald Aspen Comics variant cover is sold out. Look for this comic to spike in the aftermarket. Please remember (message for new speculators), this is only a cover of a comic book. Nothing on the inside of this comic warrants a very high price tag. A pretty cover should not command a lot of your money. Ever. A rare variant can always be reprinted later on or maybe you can buy the poster art of the cover, don’t spend lots of money on a modern that will not pay dividends down the line. Spend that cash on a solid Bronze Age first appearance instead or wait on a new printing down the line. Please understand that we’re not saying to NOT buy variants, but be smart in what you are doing. Once the market corrects itself on the down side, these pretty covers will have no substance within the inside pages to warrant a high priced ticket. A true collector will not pay big money for a “limited” variant cover. They’ll SELL them to any potential buyers, but would not hold it as a long-term. Aspen Comics will release 12 different variant covers available to order for the first time.
Chapterhouse Publishing re-releases their free comic book day Captain Canuck,Year One #1 comic for $1.99 price tag with a new David Finch cover. It’s sold out. Creators Kalman Andrasofszky, Jay Baruchel and Marcus To.
A new team comic from Action Lab Entertainment looks like a winner. Check out The Consultant #1. Creators Jason Sterr and David Maine.

Captain Marvel #125 reveals the secret origin of Carol Danvers. Great Dan Mora Hulk homage cover too.
Marvel Comics solicits America #8 as the first appearance of Exterminatrix. Hmmm….that isn’t right. Maybe it’s the NEW version of this character. Exterminatrix first appeared in Marvel Boy #1 in 2000. This book was written by Grant Morrison. Art by J.G. Jones. That’s some creativity fire power there. America #8 from creators Gabby Rivera and Joe Quinones.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #24 features an appearance of the X-Babies team. It’s been two years since we last saw them together. The last time we saw them together was in Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX #4. Guess who the writer, artist and cover artist was for that issue……yep, Skottie Young.

Jughead Hunger May 2017

Buy/Bid – Suicide Squad #28

Buy/Bid – Jughead Hunger #1

Buy/Bid – Gotham City #2

Buy/Bid – House of Horror #1

Suicide Squad #28 will bring back two long lost DC characters.
As already said here, the new Gotham City Garage comics will be a direct take from the DC Collectible statue line. Keep close to this series as we could see an introduction or two of a new character. Gotham City Garage #2 will be here Wednesday.

DC Comics releases a horror comic, just in time for Halloween, from a plethora of comic creators; DC House of Horror #1.
The Ruff & Reddy Show #1 comic looks as though it’s more of an adult themed take on the two Hanna Barbara characters. Ruff & Reddy were first introduced into the comic book world back in 1958’s Four Color Comics #937. The current series will be written by legend Howard Chaykin and drawn by Mac Rey. Should be a good read with good visuals.

Not only will this creative team be coming back, Jughead: The Hunger #1 will be a regular ongoing. Yes They’ll bring it and Frank will do it his way. Not Sinatra, Tieri. He’ll do it…..never mind. InvestComics is team Tieri. Always. Brooklyn sticks together.
Keep a close eye on Spawn #279 as it teases the ‘evolution’ of a new character.
Hack/Slash: Resurrection #1. Creators Tini Howard, K. Michael Russel and Celor.
The follow up to the sold out number one issue; Gasolina #2 hits.

Scare Tactics #7

Santa vs Dracula

Mazscara

Gasolina #2

Eternity #1

Ash AOD #4

Buy/Bid – Sink #2 – JOCK

InvestComics usually reserves comment on a comic cover because it’ll probably end up in our ‘Best Comic Covers Of The Week’ post. Unless we feel it deserves a mention here because it’s that intriguing. Artist Pasquale Qualano pays homage to Todd McFarlane with his cover; Ash vs The Army of Darkness #4. Many artist have swiped the Amazing Spider-Man #316 cover, but we just wanted to point this one out. Okay one more cover to mention, Silver Surfer #14, Jack Kirby cover. It looks as though it’s on its way to a sell out too.
One of InvestComics’ favorite publishers graces fans with a great ‘fight comic’ this week. Check out Scout Comics’ Santa vs. Dracula. Tis the Halloween/Christmas season! Creators Ed Power and Melissa Dejesus. Also, Solar Flare, Season 2 #1; James Haick III and Branko Jovanovic.
Valiant introduces new worlds, new characters, new origins and more in Eternity #1. Creators Matt Kindt and Trevor Hairsine.
Heavy Metal releases three number one comics this Wednesday. Taarna will make her comic book debut after first appearing forty years ago in Heavy Metal Magazine #284. What took so long? Taarna #1 from creators Alex De Campi and Stephane Roux. Alex Ross covers. Eddie, from the heavy metal band Iron Maiden makes his comic book debut in Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast #1. Well, it’s sort of his debut. DC Comics featured ‘Iron Maiden’ in Scare Tactics #7 (1997). They never referred to Iron Maiden as ‘Eddie’, so yes/no on that first appearance. Look for Eddie and Taarna to continue their comic book lives after their debuts. Also from Heavy Metal; 1985: Black Hole Repo #1, creators Michael Moreci and Seth Sherwood.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.

Kevin Eastman of TMNT fame will co-write a new series coming out from Dynamite Entertainment; Cage Hero #1.

Also from Dynamite, James Bond fans will have something to celebrate besides the movie coming to a theater near you. A new comic; James Bond #1. The last variant count we have is up to 10, so plenty of pointless variants to choose from. We’d love to say to get your paws on the Jock variant, but we’re very unimpressed with the cover. Eye candy is nil.

Shane Davis’ Axcend #2, now that’s an impressive variant. And a cool comic too!

If you’re a person that follows the political landscape and you love demons, then Citizen Jack #1 (Image) is for you. Check out this crazy off-beat comic from writer Sam Humphries and artist Tommy Patterson.

There are a few reasons why to love Monstress #1 from Image Comics. First and foremost, it’s written by the talented Marjorie Liu. Second, it’s drawn by X-23 artist Sana Takeda. Third, it’s a new ongoing series, and fourth, it contains 66 (yes 66) pages of comic story with no interruptions. All for a $4.99 price point. There are currently none of these comics available on Ebay right now.

Paper Girls #2 will follow up Brian K Vaughan’s hit debut issue.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

A gorgeous variant cover from Gabriele Dell Otto this week; Amazing Spider-Man (Vol 4) #3. Onward to volume five starring Deadpool in Deadpool (Vol 5) #1. Another relaunch within the new Marvel Universe. It is Deadpool though, so expect early price gauging on some of the variants, then back to reality. Lots of variants to choose from here.

Fans of the WWE will recognize the writer’s name in Drax #1. None other than CM Punk. He’s already done some work over at DC Comics (which we’ve covered), but this is the first time he’s doing creative work for Marvel Comics. The Ed McGuinness UFC cage variant would be a nice comic to get signed/graded if you’re a CM Punk fan. Thing is about the UFC gig, Punk announced he would be headed towards the UFC for some real deal fighting a long time ago (earlier this year?). Everyone is still waiting. That all said, a Drax solo comic should be a fun deal.

A new Hercules (Vol 4) #1 from Marvel arrives this Wednesday. The best of all volumes in the Marvel Universe came in 1982’s Hercules #1. The entire comic practically, creatively, was done by the awesome Bob Layton. It was a great four issue mini-series. In 2015, writer Dan Abnett and artist Luke Ross take a crack at it.

The biggest comic in all the land this week will be……brace yourself…..ready…..Howard The Duck (Vol 5) #1. I cannot believe I just typed that! And no we’re not drinking the Kool-Aid that some others may serve up. The mention of this comics has nothing to do pertaining to the character in this title. Simply because the latest craze in all the land; Gwenpool. And yes InvestComics gave speculators a heads up on her first appearance. (we’re awesome like that). Gwenpool will grace a variant cover and guess what? It’s sold out already! No surprise there. So the question here is not whether this will be a Scooby Doo #12 (which InvestComics did not talk about. Completed listings not sold on Ebay recently at $16.95/$14.95/$6.00) or a comic to buy and sell for a possible nice sum of money to buy a couple of weeks worth of your pull list. The answer is the latter. And here’s something for anyone really pushing the Howard The Duck character too. If you visit InvestComics on a regular basis, you will remember the Howard The Duck speculator clinic we put forth in March of this year. Remember, InvestComics is always in a business oriented mindset first and foremost when speaking about money for the speculator. We are looking out for your best interest. No fanboy stuff here, go elsewhere for that. So we are going to copy and paste the idea we put forth of why we think Howard The Duck will not come to fruition anytime soon on television or the movies.

..…..The Howard book will be a fun read though, so get it for at least that reason! Both are cool. So don’t get all hurt that I’m not that high on the Howard book. Speculation = opinion. Not that owning the Fear #19 (1976) book (first appearance of Howard the Duck) is a bad thing, but if you’re in the market to buy a good first appearance for $250 or $500 dollars, there are other books to seriously consider. Ask yourself this. Would Disney really want to jeopardize/replace the lure of Donald Duck with a wise cracking, cigar smoking duck? I highly doubt they want to throw Howard in our faces as the duck to really remember and constantly have questions from children to adults saying, “Is that Donald Duck?”. Um no. Disney would not want this. Why do you think there is no real talk about a cartoon or a movie pertaining to Howard? For this reason. Too close to Donald. Maybe someday Disney will bite the bullet and release a Howard cartoon or movie, but as for right now it’s not happening. Maybe a Howard the Duck comic book is a feeler to see what sort of attention it gets? Then maybe we’ll get some real news of something? This speculator doesn’t think we’ll see anything for some time. The Donald lure is way more important to Disney right now than destroying the very fabric of Disneyland or anything pertaining to Donald with people constantly mistaking Donald for Howard. Bycomparison, will we ever see a nasty mouse character created within the Marvel U that looks very similar to the Big Mouse with an attitude and possible cigar? The short answer is no. Howard will stay where he is right now and Disney is very content with that.

So there you have it. Lets recap shall we? Buy the Howard/Gwenpool variant this Wednesday, think about spending your $250-$500 elsewhere instead of his first appearance. Simple enough.

It’s just a matter of time before we see Nova appear in a movie or get his own thing going right? The Nova comics have always been entertaining, Nova (Vol 6) #1 will not disappoint.

A new Star Wars comic; Star Wars #11. An awesome Stuart Immonen cover here. We turned the comic horizontally so fans can really see it in its full glory. As always, any and all Star Wars comics; always a buy here at InvestComics.
A lot of creators from the comic industry contribute to Uncanny X-Men #600. Comic fans will want to thumb through this to see if their favorite creator contributed.
The new Vision (Vol 2) #1 looks very interesting. A definite pick up. A possible sleeper here. Take a look at that Ryan Sook variant as well, sweet.

451 Media Group seem to have a new hot book almost every week now. ExMortis #1 is sold out. Would you believe us if we told you that there will be a Santa Claus Year One type comic coming this week? How about if we told you that Grant Morrison will write it? Okay so this is Boom Studios’ premise to their new Klaus #1 comic. All set to a viking theme of course. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Others to check out; Hangman #1 (Dark Circle). Exodus Life After #1 (Oni Press). And just in time for Halloween, a story (sold out) from Space Goat Productions; Forty Coffins #1. Johnny Red #1 (Titans Comics) Garth Ennis writes. Another possible sleeper this week to watch out for; Niobe She Is Life #1 from Stranger Comics.

Hot Picks based on new comics coming this Wednesday 7/1/15

Click on any red link or comic cover in the article to buy/bid on the comic right now. A new page will open, so you will not lose your place here.

A very light week compared to the busy ones we’ve had for a long stretch there. Perfect time to catch up on those back issues you’ve been looking for. Go through those boxes at your local shop, there are probably a few gems sitting in there.

The biggest book to look out for this week has to be We Stand On Guard #1 (Image Comics). Not only will it probably be a fantastic read, but it’s written by Brian K. Vaughan. This deals with the invasion of Canada by the United States. Invasion with big robots. How much fun is this going to be? Lots! One key element pertaining to the speculative side that makes this comic very attractive is the no variant aspect to it. Just one cover release (as of right now) and this makes for less clutter in the market, thus making this comic a probable sell out more attractive.

Grant Morrison will have a creator owned book this Wednesday; Grant Morrison’s 18 Days #1 (Graphic India). All of the variant covers are limited to 1000 copies each and are sold out already. The regular cover is sold out too. You better grab this off the shelf if you want a copy, once they’re gone, they’re gone.

New Star Wars comics coming this Wednesday, Darth Vader #7 and Princess Leia #5. Buy any of the new Star Wars comics. The stories are great and for the possible speculative side as well. New movie will be hitting in December, who knows what possible character or villain could appear in the comic before the movie.

IDW publishing has a couple of books to look out this week. Onyx #1, a new sci-fi book from Chris Ryall with a very nice limited SDCC variant. And the new Mickey Mouse #1. Regular cover and variant sold out.

As InvestComics has matured over the years, it’s not very often that a book like Barb Wire #1 (Dark Horse) gets a mention. But when it’s Adam Hughes supplying the covers, well it has to be mentioned. Especially when the regular cover blows away the variant cover.

Click on any of the RED links to go directly to Ebay to bid/purchase any books in this article. Maybe your shop under ordered or simply does not have the books within this article. InvestComics saves you the time of doing the search and brings you right to your target on Ebay.

Shock_Pop_Con_2015_InvestComicsInvestComics is fresh back from the very first comic show down in south Florida; Shock Pop Comic Con. Check out the extensive coverage InvestComics provided on its social media outlets. Click on the Press badge picture to the right to see some of the photo on the InvestComics Facebook page and also to be linked to the Shock Pop Comic Con Facebook page as well. Some awesome pictures to check out! The show was full of great guest and it was also a great place to get some comics witnessed by Capital Grading Services too. Capital Grading Services will be sharing some of the books that were verified, so stay tuned for that. A few nice ones coming up.

In the Meantime, be sure to head on over to the InvestComics Ebay page to check out some of the Capital Grading Services comics that are on consignment there. A Star Wars #1 blank variant with 6 sketches/signatures with a starting bid of only $99. Also starting at $99 bids are Aquaman #1 (New 52) graded/signed by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado and Sensational Wonder Woman #1 graded/signed by Gail Simone. Go right HERE to the InvestComics Ebay page to place a bid or buy it now.

Silk #1, buy it! For months and months and months now InvestComics has been high on the character Silk. We said that if you had to choose between the new Spider-Gwen or Silk, to choose Silk. If your heart fluttered or you got in the slightest bit angry about that statement, please stop reading this article and go argue with some Fanboy’s at your local comic shop who would win in a fight Gwen or Silk. Relax please. In no way shape or form is InvestComics saying that Gwen will not be successful. Never came out of these articles here. Never will. So what will I say to go out on a limb? Nothing too bad to disrupt the balance of the nerd universe, but I will say that in the long run, (my speculative call here; an opinion) Silk will have more to offer as far as character development goes. Gwen’s story is what it is. She was dead, now she’s not. Her story isn’t even in the depth’s of reality. Let me remind you, I’m not saying this is a horrible thing, it’s not actually, it’s a fun story. But, the Silk story may have more deepness/richness to it for years to come. One of the key components of Silk is the characters ethnicity. This alone is enough to make one realize the rareness and the possible complexity of what may come for Silk. Maybe not right away, but it may some day. Speculation here…..

Up and coming sensational creator Stacey Lee will start us off on the new era of Silk with issue number one. Stacey Lee is a phenomenal artist. A force to be reckoned with within the industry. Check out her web page right HERE and see some of the amazing things she has done so far in her short career. One of her first published comics is Steed and Mrs. Peel: We’re Needed #1 from Boom Studios.

STK645327So with the massive Silk love this week, (Gwen will have her turn next week) InvestComics gave you a heads up on Amazing Spider-Man #1. This issue featured the first appearance of Cindy Moon. It wasn’t until Amazing Spider-Man #4 the we saw Cindy Moon as Silk. I told you to buy these comics a very long time ago. I’m telling you to buy these comics now too. Click on the links and it will bring you to Ebay so that you can bid or buy your copies right away.

One more positive note here with the new Silk #1 book coming this Wednesday. There are only a few covers accompanying the debut here. No letter K variant, or letter S, nope just up to the letter D here, as in the fourth letter in the alphabet. Click the red link to buy your variant now. InvestComics loves Silk and the potential of the character. We love Gwen too, but Silk for the longevity win here.

….And speaking of no crazy variant cover run, you know what book looks attractive for the sole purpose of having just ONE cover and looking like an awesome story? Secret Identities #1 from Image Comics. Expect some buzz with this new TEAM book from Image. And only one cover too? Yep. As a speculator I like this this. No hunting down that variant that will give you the most bang for your buck.

With the recent announcement of Marvel Studios and Sony reaching an agreement to have Spider-Man crossover into their respective studio films, much of the comic book world immediately brought up Miles Morales as the potential replacement instead of having Peter star as the new Spidey. This probably is not going to happen, but a nice thought nonetheless. However, this week within Miles Morales’ comic book, he will show off a new spider power. This is pretty cool and a book to definitely keep an eye out on. Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man #10!

How about Grant Morrison and Jim Lee teaming up on Multiversity Mastermen #1!? That’s awesome sauce right here. Most won’t care that DC’s Multiversity is as confusing and convoluted as it gets. This is Morrison and Lee in the same book!

Jimmy_Amanda_InvestComicsRobin_Action_Comics_InvestComicsThe Bat books are an interesting bunch this week. Check out that cool homage cover to Batman and Robin #39. Instead of Superman it’s Robin? Okay. Batman Superman #19 variant cover was done by J.G Jones. Not only is the cover totally killer, but it features Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner on it! Get this comic triple signed and graded. You’ll without a doubt have a winner on your hands. And the last of the Bat books is Batwoman #39. Who is Red Alice? Find out this week.

David and Meredith Finch continue to make the Wonder Woman comic and character very relevant again. Check out Wonder Woman #39 as the Finch team introduces a new character.

Staying on topic about Wonder Woman, Superman Wonder Woman #16 introduces Magog into the New 52 universe. Besides Darkseid and or Doomsday possibly causing all sorts of issues for the Justice League of America on the big screen, Magog would be a distant third to fill in as the big bad wolf. His first appearance was in Kingdom Come #1 1996. He then reappeared in Justice Society Of America #18 in 2008. A bad as* villain with nothing but upside. Click the links and get your first appearances of Magog now.

Wonder_Woman_39_InvestComics Secret_Indentities_1_InvestComicsWith all the talk of a female dominate week; Silk, Gwen, Wonder Woman, Batwoman, Red Alice, why not also check out All New Captain America #4 too. A mysterious female character returns from the past. Who will it be? Read the comic and find out.

Something big will happen within the pages of Silver Surfer #9. Now that Spider-Verse is over, It’s time for fans to really pay attention to what writer Dan Slott has been up to during his Silver Surfer run.

Check out Sparks Nevada Marshal On Mars #1 from Image Comics. Looks like a fun read. Ei8ht Outcast #1 has nothing to do with the Kirkman Outcast title. This one is from Dark Horse and looks interesting. As Dr. Strange becomes more of a reality onto the big screeen, expect to see lots and lots of magic/mystic books like King Mandrake Magician #1 (Dynamite Entertainment).

And last but not least. Disney will have the new Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon coming soon, but until then we can all enjoy Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy #1. A prequel to the cartoon.

Remember to click on any of the RED links to go directly to Ebay to bid/purchase any books that your local shop has maybe under ordered or simply does not have. InvestComics saves you the time of doing the search and brings you right to your target on Ebay.

Star Wars #2 heads our way this Wednesday with some very nice variants. Not as many as its previous issue so that’s a good thing! Will Star Wars continue its hotness with their new home at Marvel? We’ll see.

There are a few variants that speculators may want to get this Wednesday to do a little flipping with. Get all of this comics signed and graded (as always, must be a 9.8 or higher), then sell them. Simple stuff here. First, there are so many pluses that accompany Spawn #250. It’s a mega-sized issue that features the return of the original Spawn, there is a rare Scottie Young variant, and then there is the Todd McFarlane/Greg Capullo variant. Get a double shot with both sigs; McFarlane/Capullo and you have a great book. Superman #38 seems to have made very little noise considering what its bringing this Wednesday. The comic will be double sized and have the following; Superman with new powers, Introductions/first appearances (or maybe re-introductions), New enemies (again, maybe reintroductions), and ready for this…? A new costume. Yes, Superman will don a new costume. Click the Superman #38 link now and buy your regular and variant copies on Ebay now before your local comic shop starts hoarding them or putting a $10 price tag on them. Wytches #4 will feature a variant cover from new upcoming superstar Babs Tarr. You must visit and like her Facebook page right HERE. Thanks to the VP of InvestComics on the heads on Tarr! “She’s the next Fiona Staples” as the VP said. Yes indeed. And while on topic about the great Fiona Staples, be sure to check out her special wraparound cover on Saga #25. Fiona will be the artist who catapults Archie Comics into the stratosphere when their relaunch occurs. Be ready for Fiona to bring it. You’ve been warned already on these pages about her and Archie Comics. You’ve been warned…..

Weird and funny thing about Avengers #41 this week. It features the same cover as Ultimates #1 from 2002. So with that, we get a sold out comic? Yep. Be sure to be on top of this one. It smells like one of those hot books to bust out. Not much of an explanation as to why the same cover, which means something very cool may be happening inside of that comic. Be sure to hit the links to buy your copies of Ultimates #1 for 99 cents before it may be too late and also the sold out Avengers #41. And awesome Noto variant. Check it out!

Another group(s) will make waves this week. Check out Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men Black Vortex Alpha #1. This story sounds like it’s going to be some fun. It features the main villain named Mr. Knife within the arc. Mr. Knife’s first appearance is right HERE in Legendary Star-Lord #3. Looks like another 99 cent book to be had. If the story heats up, well then we all know what happens to that 99 cent book right?

New Zodiax #1 from Astronaut Ink is showing signs of great sales. A good looking story with a short print run makes for some nice possibilities no? Click the link to buy your copies now!

Valiant will have a hit on their hands with Imperium #1. Some great variants to choose from here. The book will sell out, so be on top of it. Another sold out comic on the horizon will be Postal #1. A great read and a fantastic Linda Sejic variant to get. Look for Grant Morrison’s Nameless #1 to hit the ground running. The very creepy/dark Rat God #1 from Dark Horse will hit the shelves this Wednesday. Read that with the lights very dim in bed at night. Then good to sleep. Report back what you dream about! The one time red hot Enormous book will hit this week with Enormous #6. The streak will continue with sellouts for that book though.

Cluster #1 from Boom Studios looks like a great read as does Stray Bullets Sunshine and Roses #1 from Image Comics.

Return of the Living Deadpool #1 has a funny Ryan Stegman variant. And All New Captain America Fear Him #1 will be a good read.

Remember to click any of the comics in RED to be linked directly to the Ebay page of all the comics available of that issue. It’s a great tool to buy exactly what you want right away instead of hunting it down when it’s too late!

InvestComics was recently accepted as press for the first big Florida comic con of the season. Be sure to check out Shock Pop Comic Con and all their cool guest. Go HERE to their Facebook page and then go HERE to their website. Be sure to follow ALL of InvestComics social media to get live coverage of the show. SINISTER DEXTER Comes to IDW!

SINISTER DEXTER Comes to IDW!

2000 AD’s Deadly Duo Finally Comes to America!

tumblr_mn7natp7Cy1s0pt79o1_1280

San Diego, CA (May 24, 2013) –It was announced today that the exploits of 2000 AD’s Finnigan “Finny” Sinister and Ramone “Ray” Dexter will be hitting American shores when the long-running world of SINISTER DEXTER is reprinted by IDW in 2014! The pair of futuristic “gun sharks”—read: hit men—will be roaring in hot from Downlode, the European mega-city they call home, and they’ll be bringing an unbelievable cast of characters with them! From the original stories written by Dan Abnett and drawn by Andy Clarke, SINISTER DEXTER chronicles a vibrant, madcap world of futuristic intrigue and action. Deadly ninjas, acrobatic flying car chases, shape-shifting robot assassins, a devious Yakuza? All in a day’s work, dear reader. All in a day’s work.

‘”With its deft mix of black comedy and gritty urban action, the exploits of Sinister Dexter have remained a popular mainstay in 2000 AD for the past 17 years,” said 2000 AD’s Editor-in-Chief Matt Smith. “With IDW reprinting a selection of their tales, I hope a whole new audience is going to enjoy meeting the gun-lovin’ criminals.”

“I’m happy to expand our relationship 2000 AD,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. “It’s been a pleasure working with the guys there, and even moreso because the books that we’re producing together are such fun things to expose to this market in an even grander way. Abnett and Clarke’s Sinister Dexter stories are gritty, crazy, and action-packed bursts of adrenaline and I can’t wait to set them loose among American comic readers.”

“IDW have demonstrated a real passion for 2000 AD’s stories and we’re delighted to develop our relationship with them further,” said Ben Smith, Publishing Manager for 2000 AD and Rebellion. “It’s fantastic to see the amazing work of two such significant creators as Dan and Andy set to reach even more readers.”

While specific plans have yet to be announced, it’s certain that between the thousands of pages of explosively excellent material, there are more than a few worthwhile collections to be had!

About IDW
IDW is an award-winning publisher of comic books, graphic novels and trade paperbacks, based in San Diego, California. Renowned for its diverse catalog of licensed and independent titles, IDW publishes some of the most successful and popular titles in the industry, including: Hasbro’s The TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE and MY LITTLE PONY; Paramount’s Star Trek; Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; 2000AD’s Judge Dredd; The Rocketeer; Toho’s Godzilla; Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons; HBO’s True Blood; and the Eisner-Award winning Locke & Key series, created by best-selling author Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez. IDW is also home to the Library of American Comics imprint, which publishes classic comic reprints, and Yoe! Books, a partnership with Yoe! Studio.
IDW’s critically- and fan-acclaimed series are continually moving into new mediums. Currently, Warner Brothers and Barry Sonnenfeld are attached to adapt LORE into a feature film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Disney are creating a feature film based on World War Robot, with Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes and Sony bringing Zombies vs. Robots to film.

About 2000 AD and Rebellion

2000 AD is the Eisner-nominated, multi-award winning 32 page, British weekly anthology – an explosive cocktail of sci-fi and fantasy, infused with irony and wry black humour. Home of iconic characters such as Judge Dredd, Halo Jones, Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper, over the last 35 years it has launched the careers of some of the top names in global comics, including Alan Moore, Mark Millar, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Steve Dillon, Jock, and Peter Milligan.

2000 AD, its monthly sister publication The Judge Dredd Megazine, and its extensive range of graphic novels are available to buy online, through a dedicated iPad app, from major magazine retailers in the UK and Europe, and from all good comic stores in the US.

Morrison/Paquette to do WONDER WOMAN EARTH ONE

DC announces WONDER WOMAN EARTH ONE graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette. Morrison has been talking about a Wonder Woman project for years now, and it looks like this is it.

“This is some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time, because it’s a completely different type of comic book,” Morrison recently teased about the upcoming book to ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. “Usually I don’t do masses of research, but for Wonder Woman, I’ve actually been working my way through the entire history of feminism … I want this to be really, really good, to reflect not only what women think, but what men think of women. I’m trying to do something really different from what’s been done with the character before. That one’s been amazing fun, because it’s nothing like anything I’ve ever done before.”

Comic Broker Report – Grant Morrision and the Multiversity

I know a lot of readers that loath Grant Morrison.  Old and young a like, I hear em’ whine and moan about how the man can’t write for sh*t.  His recent run on Action Comics has fueled his detractors but trust me when I say that his stint on Action was misunderstood and should be read more than once much like Final Crisis.

LCS workers under 30 never say anything pleasant about the enigmatic scribe and that amazes me.  I just assume they haven’t  read All Star Superman or Doom Patrol!   Despite the harsh talk most don’t doubt his creativity.  Unfortunately there is something about his style that turns reader off but people must be buying his comics because DC continues to let him push the boundaries of  the Sequential art medium.  I’ll admit he’s not for everyone but if you enjoy a writer who can generate original material as well as scripts overflowing with carefully crafted connections to the larger world’s they exist in then you should appreciate him.

This year Grant Morrison will revisit some old worlds and a few new ones in his 2010 2013 Epic Multiversity for DC.  Grant intends to expand the DCU by exploring the Multiverse in ways yet unimagined. Over the years he has laid the groundwork for this work in many corners of the DC universe and readers are in luck because this story will exist on the edge of the that universe.  In the past Mr.  Morrison has proven that  his best work usually functions outside what the rest of DC is doing.  With that in mind I have compiled a list of books that should prove to be important if you are planning on buying Grant’s next work for DC.

This book also features the first Earth 10-Nazi Superman/Uberman of Axis Amerika!

Final Crisis: Superman Beyond 1-2: 1st Earth-20

Here we have the first appearance of Doc Fate and Doc Savage on Earth-20. Grant has said that this world will be used in Multiversity.

And just because I think it’s awesome: Final Crisis Superman Beyond 1-2 introduces us to  Captain Allen Atom ( Adam ): the Quantum Superman! He is the combination of Captain Atom and Doctor Manhattan!

Justice League of America 153: 1st Appearance of Ultraa

Grant has recently stated that there will be a book called Ultraa the Unknown set on Earth Prime.  To my knowledge there have been two versions of this character.  The first appeared here.

Note: Superboy Prime was not the first hero from Earth Prime, This Ultraa was!  There is also a Whitman variant for this comic.

Note: this book also features a rare Linsner cover!

It seems that Ultraa Appearances are hard to come by.  This one took a while to track down.  Here Ultraa appears as a member of the League Busters!

Countdown Arena 1 ( Variant )

Besides featuring another Ultraa this book has a host of first appearances and other treats related to what Morrison will be working on.  This series is interesting because many characters from the best parts of past events appear ( like those from Elsworlds! )

The Flash 179 ( First Earth Prime )

This book is a true gem as it is the first appearance of Earth Prime.   It may be tough to find in good condition but it is an essential addition to any collector’s showcase.

Action Comics 9 ( New 52 )

Grant has said that Calvin Ellis, the Superman of Earth 23 will be the protagonist of the series.  As you can probably guess this comic is his first appearance.

Action-Comics_9_Full-665x1024

ALSO…

52 week 52 is the 1st appearance of  Earth 4  which is home to the Charlton/Watchmen characters.

6a00d8341bfc7553ef00e54f2604718834-640wi

Note:  Each world within the Multiverse publishes comics about characters from the other 52 worlds.  There is 1 comic book that is haunted and kills anyone who comes in contact with it.  This is explained in Animal man 24 and it is stated that the comics come from Earth Prime. Ultraa the Unknown # 6 will be published by DC at some point.  The book itself is the killer comic.  I say buy it but wear cotton gloves when reading!

This article has been updated but with the likelyhood that Grant has augmented his scripts for the series I cannot confirm that Ultraa the Unknown will still be published but we can hope!

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for new comic releases on 2-20-13

A couple of things to get to before we get started….

First order of business this week is the mentioning of the newest sponsor to the InvestComics family. Zap-Kapow! Zap-Kapow is an itunes comic book price guide app that gives you instant prices right in the palm of your hand whenever you need. It’s a fantastic app that should be on every collector’s phone. Or go to the Zap-Kapow Icon on the top of this article and just click. InvestComics and Zap-Kapow! a perfect match!

Shaun Cobble and Shaun Sorenson are making waves with the new InvestComics Podcast Breaking the 4th Wall. Be sure to check out the show each and every week on Sunday’s. The boys have a lot of fun with it. Coming up shortly, InvestComics got a hold of Joe Harris to come on the show! That’s writer Joe Harris; Batman: Battle for the Cowl, The Fury of Firestorm, screenwriter on Darkness Falls, and much more. Look for that show coming up soon with Joe on. Fun to be had! And MORE guest announcements coming soon too. Look for them on the InvestComics Facebook page.

Now let’s get to this week’s chock full of number one issues. That’s 12 number one issues and one number zero. I can’t recall such a big week in which so many number ones have hit from different companies. Excluding the new 52 and Marvel NOW! of course.

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=226]

Five of the number one issues come from IDW Publishing. IDW is simply killing it right now! In case you have been living under a rock, IDW has arrived. With the recent success of 2 titles, selling out, it’s not a surprise to see IDW go back to the well here. Star Wars #1 was a tremendous success, so IDW is giving fans Gi Joe (2013 IDW Volume 3) #1. Great move here because a restart of the Star Wars franchise is just what the collector ordered. G.I. Joe will be no different here. Look for fast sellouts and some quick jump in aftermarket pricing. G.I. Joe originally appeared in the Marvel/Hasbro launch back in 1982. The CGC market seems a bit inundated with this issue. A total of 1,296 graded copies to date. 277 which are sitting in the 9.8 range while 332 sit in the 9.6 range. This doesn’t really help your aftermarket cause. That said, pull out one of your 1982 Joe’s in your collection and pair it up with the new Joe from IDW that will sellout out, throw it up on Ebay and watch the bids come in. The sellout of Joe will probably occur with My Little Pony Micro Series (2013 IDW) #1 as well. With the successful launch of the My Little Pony comic, the new Micro series (a la TMNT) will focus on each pony. Granted this comic may not be for the average fanboy, but the aftermarket money should be! Be sure to put this comic in the middle of your stack and not on the top. Not because of embarrassment, because you don’t want to tip anyone off that you’ll be selling this on Ebay in a few days for $10 apiece. The other IDW number one issues not to be ignored this week are Vitriol The Hunter (2013 IDW) #1, Fever Ridge MacArthur Jungle War (2013 IDW) #1, and Kill Shakespeare Tide of Blood (2013 IDW) #1. IDW is rockin’ n rolling, be there or be square.

Marvel has some number one issues to offer up this week too. Alpha Big Time (2013 Marvel) #1 will be headed our way after a brief delay. Was there really a demand for this Alpha character to have his own book? Why is this happening exactly? Guess it never hurts to try something new right? Alpha first appeared a long long time ago in Amazing Spider-Man #692….um late last year. It’s probably still sitting on the new comic book shelf at your local shop. The main number one issue from the pair that are coming out will be Nova (2013 5th Series) #1. Why you ask? No really, you’re asking why? I’d spell it out for you with little dashes in-between the letters here but that will take too long. Guardians of the Galaxy. That’s it, that’s mostly what you need to know. With the debut of the Marvel Cosmo’s on the big screen, Nova would be a character to have in your collection. Nova #1 will be a quick sellout because after 5 tries of a series starring Nova, this time the interest will stay around a bit longer. Thanks in large part due to Marvel’s push of the Guardians movie. The new number one issue however is not the one collector’s should be clamoring after. The 1976 Nova #1, now this is the one you should have. You can get some VF- copies on Ebay for very affordable prices, but one should not settle for those. Look for some VF+/NM copies and grab them. Get those near mint comics graded asap. If you can pull off a 9.8, you’re probably in the money. 466 total graded copies and 70 at the 9.8 spot. Lots at the 9.6 slot. I’m telling you, get a 9.8 and hold on to this comic. It has tremendous upside.

We get introduced to a new villain this week from Marvel. Her name is Jet Black. Check out Captain America (2012 7th Series) #4 for her debut. The secret of Scorpio is revealed in Ultimates (2011 Marvel Ultimate Comics) #21. Scorpio’s first appearance is no secret to us though. Nick Fury’s sibling debuted in Nick Fury, AGENT of Shield #1 (1968) from icon Jim Steranko. Watch in the future for an originally signed Jim Steranko autograph for you to WIN from InvestComics’ video comic book review show FFFIC! Awesomeness indeed. Daredevil (2011 3rd Series) #23 begins a new storyline that claims to be a big one as well as a jumping on point. So jump! And Avengers (2012 5th Series) #6 will give us the origin of the Universe. See, Stan Lee is God.

DC comics Justice League of America (2013) #1 will debut with a variant cover, all of them with the same cover, but with a different flag for each state within the U.S. Very lame, sorry DC you dropped the ball again on this one. See the original tirade on this debacle on InvestComics Hot Picks #255, click HERE for that. In more lame news we get Justice League of Americas Vibe (2013) #1 this week. This comic falls in the same realm as Alpha #1 from Marvel. Is this comic necessary? Don’t look for much on this one, but Vibe’s first appearance is in Justice League of America Annual #2 (1984) if one feels so inclined to waste their time hunting for this. Batwoman (2011 2nd Series) #17 is wowing us with a new status quo. Really? Why a new status quo? Wasn’t this what the New 52 was supposed to do in the first place? Okay, let’s buy into it, see where it goes. DC guarantee’s that Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #17 will be THE book to own in the new 52 universe. Why is this? An answer that only Grant Morrison knows and for us to find out. The DC comic to really keep an eye out on this week besides Action Comics #17 has to be Legion of Super-Heroes (2011 7th Series) #17. Paul Levitz teams back up with Keith Giffen on a Legion book. Cool stuff here fans. Back in the early 80’s Paul and Keith were tearing it up as fans were loving it. The tandem first teamed up on a Legion book back in 1982’s Legion of Super-Heroes #285. They worked together in a backup story called The Forgotten Future. Here’s a nice kicker too, Adam Kubert was the letterer on the story. How cool is that? Three legends on one story!

Todd McFarlane continues his magic and amazing marketing plan on paying homage to several comic book covers. This week he pays homage to the most famous cover of all time in Spawn (1992) #228. He does a tremendous job as always too. Thanks for the eye candy Todd! X-O Manowar (2012 3rd Series Valiant) #10 debuts the new X-O Manowar so check that out. With the recent announcement of the Sixth Gun pilot on NBC, it makes sense to grab a copy of the latest Sixth Gun installment Sixth Gun Sons of the Gun (2013 Oni) #1. We all know Sebastian Piccione from FFFIC will probably be very happy to read this comic!

Rounding out this week we have Dejah Thoris and Green Men of Mars (2013) #1 (take a look at some of the variant covers on this one! Parental Advisory!), Hellraiser Dark Watch (2013 Boom) #1, and Baltimore Widow and the Tank (2013 Dark Horse) #0.

That’s it for this week, watch for the new InvestComics’ newsletter coming soon with some very special BIG news!

Invest wisely.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for new comic releases on 2-6-13

So what’s better than the actual football game on Superbowl Sunday you ask? Two things; the new commercials and InvestComics Hot Picks of course! Duh!

Lots to cover this week, but before we do, InvestComics would like to give a warm hearty welcome to a new sponsor. Humanoids! Humanoids is an amazing brand of novels that if you are a fan of reading great stories with all around high quality, this is for you. Please go check them out by clicking right HERE, they have an amazingly user friendly website where you can easily navigate your way through a ton of really cool comic books, graphic novels and other things. Humanoids!

HumanoidsIf you’re a regular reader of the InvestComics Hot Picks, you probably know by now that we love the New 52 and Marvel NOW! For one simple reason. Well maybe a couple, but the main reason is the introduction of new ideas which in turn comes back to the reader/fan in the form of new characters and the return of old forgotten ones. This week in no exception with comics like Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #17 from DC. New villains will be hitting that issue. Earth 2 (2012 DC) #9 features the return of the new Wotan. Wotan first appeared way back in 1940 and comes with a $30,000 price tag. A first appearance of Wotan is worth that much you ask? Well yes and no. It is, but it also happens to be the first appearance of Dr. Fate. Avengers Assemble (2012) Annual #1 gives fans the return of Sunturion. Sunny first showed up in Iron Man #143 (1981). The creative team is enough for this collector to go searching for this book. John Romita Jr. on pencils and Mr. Iron Man writer himself Bob Layton. No need to second guess buying this comic for a few bucks. The issue also features a turning point for one of the most underrated characters within the Marvel library. Buy the Avengers #57 (1968) at any price you can and stash it away. When Vision finally makes it to the big screen you will kicking yourself that you did not pick this comic up at a reasonable price when you had the chance. Vision’s first appearance is a long term investment that has tremendous upside, do not wait. Fearless Defenders (2013) #1 is one of those comics that many of the comic book store owners will hear a collective sigh when the collector’s see it on the shelf. It features two second (third?) rate female characters; Valkyrie and Misty Knight. The ::sigh:: will be warranted. Most female lead comics have a very hard time sustaining long term interest. Birds of Prey were a great tandem, but that too grew tired with the fans. For some reason female leads do not tend to hold their own comics for very long. They make spectacular team players and there are very strong female characters out there. Some; most are even better than the men! Yes, Wonder Woman has succeeded in many ways, but how many relaunch’s, status changes, costume changes has she endured? Case in point. So will the Valkyrie (first appearance Avengers #83 -1970)/Misty Knight (first appearance Marvel Premiere #21 – 1975; Gil Kane cover) team up be any different this time around? Well this time….maybe. Remember a couple of weeks ago when InvestComics carried some news about some dude named Cullen Bunn of the Sixth Gun comic getting picked up for a pilot from NBC? Well that guy, he’s writing Fearless Defenders #1. So yes, maybe this time will be a bit different. Staying with the female theme here we also have Young Romance New 52 Valentines Day Special (2013) #1 coming out this week. This is DC’s very big attempt to test out the female market. Will the female fans buy into the comic book romance novel? Most men certainly aren’t. This isn’t a knock or anything, it’s just truth. Look at that awesome cover of Superman and Woman Woman in a make out session. Is this really geared towards men? If it were part of the storyline going through Justice League, yes, but a one shot of love story after love story pertaining to Valentine’s day? This is a fantastic way for DC to test the waters, but one possible fatal mistake they have made is a biggie. A $7.99 price tag is a bit steep guys. Having a two issue run leading up to Valentine’s Day next week would have made more sense. Now getting back to what some females may do to us men is driving us to be Madmen! Well not really, but it’s a silly lead in to Thunderbolts (2012 2nd Series) #4. This issue will focuses on the return of Madman. The Madman first appeared in the Incredible Hulk #363 (1989). Writer Peter David does the introductions here, so not bad for a quick search through some long boxes at the local comic shop or convention.

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=221] Okay so we spoke about the GOOD that the new ideas from the New 52 and Marvel NOW! brings. On the annoying end of the spectrum we get books like Winter Soldier (2012) #15 and Iron Man (2012 5th Series) #6. Why are they on that side you ask? Well for the simple fact that we get the proverbial “new status quo” or “all new direction”. Really?? You’re 15 issues in and 6 issues in respectively. This is Marvel saying they are not really hitting the target they want to, so things need to “change”. No they don’t. Keeping up with a good story helps and or maybe, just maybe fans aren’t interested anymore. Don’t think so? How about learning on the recent InvestComics Podcast Breaking the 4th Wall Episode #3 with Shaun Cobble and Shaun Sorenson that Winter Soldier will be canceled. So what’s the new status quo matter now with the Winter book?

Justice League #1 – First Appearances

[scrollGallery id=222] Justice League #1 will be making its splash with 52 variant covers. The variant covers are extremely disappointing to say the least. The SAME cover with a different State flag? Wow, that is lame beyond lame. Why not have better planning here and have each state represented with its core city and its landmark? New York with Superman flying by the Statue of Liberty, Batman at the Arc in St. Louis, Wonder Woman hanging out at Fenway Park, you get the idea. This would have generated a tremendous amount buzz for each city, thus creating a big aftermarket blitz. Instead we get flags? Anyway, let’s focus on the team members for the first issue and their first appearances. We’ll go from high to low. Scroll through the covers below for a side by side of the new Justice book with the first appearance cover.

Catwoman: First appeared in Batman #1 (1940). If you need any explanation here, stop reading and go watch the Superbowl pre-game for 10 hours.

Green Lantern: All American Comics #16 (1940). See above.

Green Arrow: More Fun Comics #53 (1941).  This comic will garner more attention as the Arrow show continues to do well, also with the possibility of him appearing in the new Justice League movie.

Hawkman: Flash Comics #1 (1940). Refer back to the comment early regarding female leads. The same applies for a lot men character’s as well. Hawkman is a good team oriented player, not so much a solo character.

Martian Manhunter: Detective Comics #225 (1955). Justice League movie….buy this.

Katana: Brave and the Bold #200 (1983).

Stargirl: Starman #69 (2000). With recent interest, this comic has more upside to it.

Vibe: Justice League of America Annual #2 (1984).

There are quite a few number one issues that fans should take a look at this week. Don’t get caught sleeping on some of these. Dia De Los Muertas (2012 Image) #1, Fairy Quest (2013 Boom) #1, Snapshot (2013 Image) #1, Legend of the Shadow Clan (2013 Aspen) #1, Son of Merlin (2013 Image) #1 and Red Team (2013 Dynamite) #1.

The last order of business comes on the heels of Brian Michael Bendis recently saying this on Bleeding Cool.com: “Truthfully, if ever the day comes that Rom could legally appear in a Marvel comic, whatever story I’m in the middle of writing, Rom will crash into it. I don’t care who it is talking, Rom is going to crash into their head.” With that, the market on the Rom #1 enters into the Bull market (buy market). Marvel will get Rom in their books again and maybe even in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I sound confident here don’t I? Well ask me the same thing BEFORE Disney bought out Marvel and most likely the tone here would be vastly different. With the talk of Rom came Rocket Raccoon too. InvestComics has told collectors time after time to pick up Marvel Preview #7 (1976), the first appearance of the rodent. The comic has gone from a $10 book to over $100 already. Here’s the good news bad news deal. Bad news, you missed out on getting a $10 book. Good news is there is more upside to this comic right now than anything else mentioned in this article. That’s right fans. You may be looking at the modern day Yoda, but in Raccoon form. As for Rom #1, you need to get this copies now! Get high grades at $8 apiece, send them off to CGC and reap the rewards when Rom comes back…..home.

That’s it for this week. Don’t forget to enter to win a FREE Signed copy of my comic Vincent Price House of Horrors #1 on the InvestComics Facebook page. Click at the beginning of this article to become a fan on the InvestComics Facebook page now!

See you next week, invest wisely.

Let’s get started with the week full of first appearances and more…..

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=216]

Marvel is going with the release of two number 1 issues this week, both team books. First we have Young Avengers (2012 2nd Series) #1. The series will put together Wiccan, Hulkling, Marvel Boy, Ms. America amongst others. All the first appearances here are obviously very affordable and easy finds. So with that, Wiccan’s first appearance could be found in within the pages of Young Avengers #7, Hulkling’s is in Young Avengers #1. Ms. America’s first is in Marvel Now’s! Vengeance #1. The best offer out of the above mentioned characters has to go to Marvel Boy. This particular Marvel Boy that appears in the latest Young Avengers book first appeared in his self titles book Marvel Boy #1 (2000). The great catch with this Marvel Knights comic is Grant Morrison writes and J.G. Jones Pencils. A nice creative team to say the least.

The second team to cover this week is Uncanny X-Force (2012 2nd Series) #1. This series packs more punch with their ensemble. For starters there is Storm. Storm first appeared in the legendary Giant Size X-Men #1 (1975). The first appearance of the new X-Men…..and Storm. At a mere $1500 in the aftermarket, it really is an undervalued book at the moment. More so, the CGC market has seen almost 4100 of these comics graded. Not much bang for your buck here unless you can pull off the elusive 9.8 grade. Only 86 have been graded in this area. Now that is some nice cash waiting for you if you can find a high non-graded at the $1500 mark. Get your hands on a copy of the Giant Size X-Men #1 if you can. Not so much for the Storm first appearance, but for the New X-Men. Psylocke is also a part of the Uncanny X-Force team and New Mutants Annual #2 (1986) is the spot to find her first appearance. The attraction to this comic however is the same as Marvel Boy #1, the creators. Written by Chris Claremont, with art by Alan Davis. A relatively easy to find comic and in some cases in the one dollar bins at your local comic shop. Puck of the highly underrated Alpha Flight team will be on the team as well. Here’s the scoop on Puck’s first appearance. Alpha Flight was a tremendously popular comic back in the early 80’s, much to do with the popularity of both the team and John Byrne. It was also a time when print runs were a bit high. An Alpha Flight comic never commanded the aftermarket the way it should have. Alpha Flight #1 (1983) peaked out at the $15 mark at one time. I have personally seen at a few conventions almost an entire long box of number one issues selling at a buck a piece. There are simply too many of these comics floating around. Here is another indicator as to why the market is not so kind to Alpha Flight #1. There are about 462 graded issues right now out there. 263 of them are graded a 9.8! That’s a bit top heavy. If there were lower print runs, this comic would gain the respect it needs in the aftermarket, but for now it remains a great comic to read through, put away and wait another 80 years for it to have any sort of value. When Marvel does get around to making that Alpha Flight movie, you better have all of those Alpha Flight #1 issues ready to blow out. The first appearance in the Uncanny X-Men would be the one to get……but another time for that. The villain known as Spiral will be a part of the Uncanny X-Force team. Spiral first appeared in Longshot #1. A onetime very hot sought after comic. Not so much these days, but you can still find it on Ebay for a smaller price than it was about 12 years ago. So go grab it. This one time hot character will eventually be hot again. You should get on the ground floor here. Granted there are 53 9.8 graded books, but there are only 97 submitted. Meaning if you get a high grade, you can flip it easier because not that many are graded overall. Get your paws on some great copies of the beautiful artistry from Art Adams at $8/$10 and grade them. Sell a few, hold onto a few. Wrapping up the X-Force crew here we have Bishop and Cluster. The same applies for Bishop as did Puck, but worse. Great character, great comic, too many available. Uncanny X-Men #282 (1991) was the beginning of the end for the speculative market back in the 90’s. Way too many to be had or worth anyone’s while in the aftermarket nowadays. 25 cent boxes at the local convention….happy hunting. Should take you about 4 seconds to find it. And finally, Cluster; is actually a character spawned from Fantomex. Fantomex first appears in New X-Men #128 (2002).

InvestComics had a special Hot Picks section that ran in the Hot Picks 10-3-12 article. Within that section included a bunch of steamy X-Men covers from past to present. This week Marvel is at it again with Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) #24. Take a look at the past article right HERE if you’d like.

DC’s Batwoman (2011 2nd Series) #16 will be introducing a new hero. That’s always fun and exciting. NOTE: Be sure to pick up any of the first appearances within the New 52 because eventually one of these characters is going to hit big. Birds of Prey (2011 3rd Series) #16 will bring in a new member to the board named Strix; of the Court of Owls. She first appeared in Batgirl #9 (New 52). The Blue Beetle (2011 3rd Series) #16 comic (final issue) will lead right into the new series called THRESHOLD (not sure if the new series will be in all uppercase, or if DC added the dramatic CAPS to It. the suspense is killing me!).

And this week we wrap up with telling y’all to be sure to check out Answer (2012 Dark Horse) #1, looks very interesting.

See you next week. Invest wisely.

DIGGLE/DANIEL to take over ACTION COMICS

Writer Andy Diggle and artist Tony Daniel will be taking over ACTION COMICS as of issue 18. Current writer Grant Morrison will be leaving, presumably to work on the recently touted and long awaited MULTIVERSITY, with Frank Quitely and the Charlton heroes on the first arc.  The Promo art features Superman in the black uniform, which appears to be his same new 52 Kryptonian armor/body suit, which has the ability to change color and design. It was also seen in ACTION COMCIS #0, when a fully grown Superman was shown to somehow be on Krypton at the asme time as infant Kal-El. Superboy was also seen on Krypton in SUPERGIRL #0, so maybe Diggle and Daniel’s run will include that story.

Here’s the release from DC’s Blog page.

Next spring, ACTION COMICS will come to you from an all-new creative team. Beginning with issue #18, writer Andy Diggle (THE LOSERS; GREEN ARROW: YEAR ONE) and artist Tony Daniel (DETECTIVE COMICS; JUSTICE LEAGUE) will be bringing you the Man of Steel’s adventures in the acclaimed series.

“I’ve always had a positive experience working with DC Comics, and it’s amazing to be welcomed back into the fold in such fine style,” Diggle told THE SOURCE. “Even in an industry dominated by superheroes, Superman is THE superhero – the original and best – and I’m flattered, daunted and inspired in equal measure at being given the opportunity to build on such an incredible and historic legacy. The word ‘iconic’ is bandied around a lot in comics, but Superman defines the term. I’m excited to be working with Tony Daniel, whose artistic and storytelling skills will be bringing the world(s) of Superman to stunning visual life. Together we’ll be carving out spectacular new adventures that respect the past while redefining the future of the Man of Steel.”

“First, let me say that I am really excited to be working with Andy Diggle on ACTION COMICS,” continued Daniel. “Superman is a character I’ve wanted to work on for quite a while now and I’m now very fortunate to be given this tremendous opportunity to work with such an iconic character. I look forward to drawing each and every character in Superman’s universe. I anticipate this being a fun ride for me and hopefully for Superman fans as well. I can’t wait to get Andy’s first script and sharpening my pencils! Thank you everyone for your support of my work on BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS over the years. I already miss the Dark Knight, but I look forward to starting anew with the Man of Steel in ACTION COMICS. I hope to see you all in Metropolis!”

ACTION COMICS #18 is due out in March.

Grant Morrison announces MULTIVERSITY for 2013. 1st story line includes the return/debut of a Ted Kord Blue Beetle

Fans attending MorrisonCon in Las Vegas this weekend were treated to a very special announcement this morning.

After years of speculation, anticipation and expectation, DC Entertainment is proud to confirm that Grant Morrison’s love letter to superhero comics, MULTIVERSITY, will be hitting stores in late 2013. Morrison, the comic book shaman and superstar author of ACTION COMICS and BATMAN, INCORPORATED has created a series that will not only define the Multiverse for DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, but will also provide a handful of new worlds, concepts, heroes and villains for comic fans to enjoy.

MULTIVERSITY is an 8-issue series comprising 6 one-shots and a two-part conclusion with each issue featuring a 38-page lead story followed by an 8-page backup. Each issue takes place on a different parallel world from the main DC Earth and functions as a number one issue. Each world in the Multiverse publishes comic books about the heroes on the OTHER worlds. Once the characters realize this, they then unite to respond to the villains!

Additionally, each universe (which have been brewing in Morrison’s mind for years) will open up an endless series of worlds and realities for future writers and creators to use, expand upon and enjoy.

Below, take a first look at MULTIVERSITY by checking out a piece of art from PAX AMERICANA #1. Illustrated by the legendary Frank Quitely, PAX AMERICANA takes the original Charlton Comics characters and presents them in a way that’s both new and familiar at the same time.

WONDER WOMAN gets a new origin, ACTION COMICS gets a new artist (for 2 issues)

In DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, Wonder Woman will have a new origin, in which she is the daughter of Hippolyta … and Zeus! In recent interviews, writer Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang have teased that readers should expect the unexpected in this edgier, horror take on the superhero genre and the king of the gods will ensure that nothing goes as planned for his defiant daughter.

Originally created by the goddess Aphrodite and raised to perfection on the Amazon island of Themiscyra, the newest incarnation of Wonder Woman has a new costume and now a new origin but she remains Wonder Woman. Strong. Proud. Fearless. WONDER WOMAN is the 12th title in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 to sell more than a 100K copies.

DC also announced that Andy Kubert will be doing a two-issue sting (filling in for regular artist Rags morales) on Action Comics #5 & #6. They also teased at least an appearance by Krypto. This makes me happy.

Andy had this to share with readers:

“When Editor Matt Idelson asked if I would be interested and/or able to fit into my schedule two upcoming issues of Action Comics with Grant, I couldn’t say no,” said Kubert. “I don’t know of any other artist that would have. Drawing the latest incarnation of Superman and working with one of the best writers on the planet made it a very easy decision for me. And in this story, I get to do some VERY iconic stuff! I gotta admit, I’m a little nervous… Fun Fact for those keeping score: I had never drawn Superman in a comics interior for an entire issue. I had done inking over Dan Jurgens and Jerry Ordway for an issue each over their beautiful pencils way (and I mean WAY) back when but this is my first opportunity to pencil the Man of Steel interior pages for my very own!”

DC #1s for the SUPER-family, SUICIDE SQUAD, and BLUE BEETLE.

DC has announced some more #1s (are there any more? I dunno) Including the SUPERMAN family books,  with two decidedly different takes on the Man of Steel by Perez and Morrison/Morales, A new SUICIDE SQUAD with some decidedly different takes on KING SHARK, DEADHSOT, and HARLEY QUINN, and a one title that has this IC reporter in a quandry…I LOVE Tony Bedard’s writing (and he’s a good guy), but we all know I’m a TED KORD guy. Well, Tony Bedard is writing the new BLUE BEETLE ongoing…and it’s Jaime Reyes as Beetle. Now, when I expressed my mixed feelings on facebook, Tony graciously thanked me for my compliments to him, and simply asked that I “…give Jaime a chance.”

So, we’ll see. But I still miss you, Ted!

STUDY THE SUPERHERO WITH GRANT MORRISON’S SUPERGODS

Here’s the cover and tease for GRANT MORRISON’S non-fiction historical study of Super-heroes, SUPERGODS.  The hardcover will hit stores on JULY 19th, and sell for $28.00.

From one of the most acclaimed and oracular writers in the world of comics comes a thrilling and provocative exploration of humankind’s great modern myth: the superhero.

For Grant Morrison, possibly the greatest of contemporary superhero storytellers, these heroes are not simply characters but powerful archetypes whose ongoing, decades-spanning story arcs reflect and predict the course of human existence: Through them, we tell the story of ourselves. In this exhilarating book, Morrison draws on history, art, mythology, and his own astonishing journeys through this alternate universe to provide the first true chronicle of the superhero-why they matter, why they will always be with us, and what they tell us about who we are.

siege2variant.gifsiege2.gifHot Picks for 2-3-10
Marvel’s Siege continues this week with its first casualty. Siege #2 will probably bring the goods as this series starts rolling. Look for each issue to be as big as the next. Siege will live up to its hype
ultimatecomics1.gifwolverinesavage_oneshot.gifbecause it probably will be the last major event for quite some time for Marvel. So take this event in, it’ll be a good one. Ultimate Comics X #1 with Jeph Loeb and Art Adams will be a no brainer sell out this week. The Ultimate line is revamping itself and you should be on board for the new Ultimate line. It’s going to be a breeding ground down the line that Hollywood (Reboot *ahem* Spider-Man *ahem*) will constantly be looking at in the years to come.
Wolverine Savage – One Shot looks like a fun ride. It’s a comic that has Wolverine just going berserk and slicing his way through the comic. Now this is not a new concept by any means, but the solicit reads that he slices his way
buffy32.gifdevil1.gifthrough some foes you’d never expect. This is always fun not knowing who Wolverine will have fun with!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer #32 will feature new writer Brad Meltzer. This will be the second of the no brainer sell outs this week. Disney, well Boom Studios! Will be stepping up the Disney characters to a new number one issue. Two of them actually, and one of them coming in as the third no brainer sell out of the week. Disney Hero Squad: Ultraheroes #1 would disneyherosquadultraheroes1.gifwizardofmickey1.gifbe that book. The very cool homage cover to Action Comics #1 will be reason enough for this comic to disappear off the shelves, and Wizard of Mickey #1 ………yes sell out number 4 this week. Besides the big Buffy book coming out this week, Dark Horse has Devil #1. It’s a manga meets sci-fi meets vampire comic book. Yes many people will check this out. Another Indie company will be making a debut that will probably fly a little under the radar this week. Zenescope waking1.gifwill be debuting Waking #1. Writer Raven Gregory of Image Comics The Gift will deliver a new zombie book with a cover by David Finch. This comic might miss your pull list, but you should look into this comic to see if it’s worth a trip to the second issue.

Milestone Forever #1…..An ending, a new beginning, and the DC Universe deals with major consequences regarding the whole Milestone family. Check out these Milestone characters first appearances in their own self titled books:

A huge week that comes with 10 InvestComics picks. Click ahead to see what’s what and who is where…..

52_6_1stgreatten.gifthegreatten1.gifPlenty to choose from this week as InvestComics gives the top 10 picks and The Great Ten # 1 comes out. This was pure Coincidence, so enjoy this big week because it’s usually not this crowded in here. So let’s get started!  If you are a fan of Greg Pak, you’ll know that he has basically created an entire addition to the Marvel Universe with ‘his’ character Skaar. DC is about to embark on the same route but in a cultural way. The People’s Republic of China (government) backs the Super Team named The Great Ten. Most of the characters from this team come from Chinese Mythology. It’s a very interesting premise as far as ‘how far could DC bring this new Universe along?’ Grant Morrison is responsible for the Introduction of Great Ten and this one could get big in a hurry. Great Tens’ first appeared in DC’s Epic 52 series in issue number 6. Buy this back issue at $5 and hold onto it. The Great Ten will be a force in the years to come.
deathlok1.gifastonisingtales25_1974_70.gifWell it looks like Marvel will take another crack at the cyborg Deathlok. After 2 failed attempts to get a series going, Marvel will be handing over the writing chores to Charlie Huston. Some of Charlie’s work includes Deadpool, Punisher and Moon Knight. Deathlok is much like the Moon Knight character that he has written in the sense both heroes have been second rate their whole career. Both of these characters need to be more front and center in my opinion. They have tremendous potential if they are written and done ‘right’. While Moon Knight has always been on the cusp of breaking through, Deathlok could also be on the verge of a major breakthrough. His first appearance has been recommended on InvestComics before and will be recommended once again. Astonishing Tales #25 is also the First work of Legend George Perez. All the way from the year 1974 at a price range from $65 to $80, this is
a steal. After all he did appear on the first ever InvestComics magazine cover from 2007. Don’t believe? Click on the ‘About’ tab on top of the InvestComics page and see for yourself!

lobohighwaytohell1.gifomegamen3_9.gifAnyone here remember how hot Lobo was back in the 80’s? The character lobo was as hot as any DC anti heroes in the Universe at one time. If you are not a collector from the 80’s and don’t believe this, ask someone that was around back then collecting every appearance of Lobo possible. He appeared in just about every book DC put out and was the ‘Wolverine’ of DC as far as popularity goes in appearances. DC and collectors had a love affair with the bounty hunter that seemed to fade away never to return. Although Lobo has been ‘around’ since his popularity dropped off, he’s never made that impact again as he once did. Fast forward to 2009, a new Lobo comic comes out this week; Lobo Highway to Hell #1 and it’s written by a New York native by the name of Scott Ian. Don’t know who Scott is? Ask those same fans from the 80’s and they might be able to answer you. Well if they were into the Heavy Metal music scene they will. Scott Ian is the founding member of the Thrash Metal band Anthrax from the early 80’s. Anthrax was a huge success with Scott leading the way. He also recently appeared on NBC Celebrity Apprentice. Ian has his name and brand out there so he tries to make sure you don’t forget who he is! So the reason this Lobo book cracks the Hot Picks this week is simple, two words ‘Umbrella Academy’. Gerald Way of ‘My Chemical Romance’ caught the comic scene by surprise when he wrote for the Dark Horse label. Why wouldn’t an established guitarist/TV personal be any different here? If anything this might be a book to watch a little closer this week. Oh and Lobo’s First is in Omega Men #3

supermanworldofkrypton9.gifjemmsonofsaturn1_1984.gifSticking with the 80’s theme, we arrive to a few comics that are very affordable and should be in your collection for the mere fact of having a ‘first appearance’. Superman World of Krypton #9 brings in strange DC dude from 1984. Jemm, Son of Saturn is playing the part of Michael Corleone (Al Pacino – Godfather) on the cover. If you look deep enough into those 50 cent boxes you’d probably come up with the 1984 first appearance in Jemm Son of Saturn #1. Will Jemm ever become a major player in the DC Universe? Most likely not, but funnier things have happened. Speaking of funny, Deadpool Team up #899 will be coming out this week. It’s always a fun read when it comes to the Merc with the mouth. One of the villains making an superspidermanandcaptainbritain248_1starcade.gifmarvelteamup65_1978_8.gifappearance this week
in Deadpool will be Arcade. You talk about second rate villains, wow! Here is a funnier thing, try finding his rare first appearance it the UK comic Super Spider-Man & Captain Britain #248 from 1977. No pricing available on this one, but Arcade’s first U.S. appearance in Marvel
deadpoolteamup899.gifTeam-Up #65 from 1978 comes in at around $10. Don’t let the price of this comic deceive you because it’s not the Villain Arcade that makes it a 10 dollar book, its Captain Britain’s first U.S. appearance that does it. Sorry Arcade, you’re a loser. So you have Jemm and Arcade, any ‘locks’ in the captainbritain8_1976_10.gifnewmutantsannual2_1986_10.gif80’s era this week? Well, maybe not a lock but the best pick of the liter has to go to New Mutants Annual #2 from 1986. Let’s first go back 10 years to the UK again to Captain Britain #8. It was here that Psylocke made her first appearance, only to appear again in the U.S. some 10 years later. It took
her a while to get here; she must have taken the long way. You could purchase either one of these comics within the $10
psylocke1.gifarea. Why is it that the 1976 book is the same price as the U.S. book? Well mostly likely due to overprinting on their part. It’s a win/win here either way you go with Psylocke. This Wednesday Psylocke #1 comes out, but see where and how it all really began at only 10 bucks.
secretsix15.gifbatman59_1950_1000.gifMarvel is bringing Deathlok to the mix again this week, so DC is bringing back Deadshot. Coincidence, probably not, but what would a week be without some sort of battle between the big 2? Secret six #15 will focus on Deadshot with special guest writer that helped ‘defined’ Deadshot, John Ostrander. Find Deadshot’s first appearance way back in 1950 in Batman #59. It’s a $1,000 book which seems relatively cheap considering DC will probably be moving ahead to get Deadshot back into the mix because of Marvel’s Deathlok. An almost 60 year old first appearance (of a character still used today) in Batman for $1000 is a Buy with InvestComics.
